Abstract

We construct from first principles a general relativistic approach to study Schwarzschild black hole (BH) rotation curves and estimate the mass-to-distance ratio of the active galactic nucleus of NGC 4258 in terms of astrophysical observable quantities. The presented method allows one to clearly distinguish and quantify the general and special relativistic contributions to the total redshift expression. The total relativistic redshift/blueshift comprises three components: the gravitational redshift due to the spacetime curvature generated by the mass of the BH in its vicinity, the kinematic shift, originated by the photons' local Doppler effect, and the redshift due to a special relativistic boost that describes the motion of a galaxy from a distant observer. We apply our method to the largest data set of highly redshifted water megamaser measurements on the accretion disk of the NGC 4258 active galaxy and use this general relativistic method to estimate its BH mass-to-distance ratio: M/D = (0.5326 +/- 0.00022) x 10^7 solar masses/Mpc., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 1 table

Abstract

Assessing the quality of an evolving knowledge base is a challenging task as it often requires to identify correct quality assessment procedures. Since data is often derived from autonomous, and increasingly large data sources, it is impractical to manually curate the data, and challenging to continuously and automatically assess their quality. In this paper, we explore two main areas of quality assessment related to evolving knowledge bases: (i) identification of completeness issues using knowledge base evolution analysis, and (ii) identification of consistency issues based on integrity constraints, such as minimum and maximum cardinality, and range constraints. For completeness analysis, we use data profiling information from consecutive knowledge base releases to estimate completeness measures that allow predicting quality issues. Then, we perform consistency checks to validate the results of the completeness analysis using integrity constraints and learning models. The approach has been tested both quantitatively and qualitatively by using a subset of datasets from both DBpedia and 3cixty knowledge bases. The performance of the approach is evaluated using precision, recall, and F1 score. From completeness analysis, we observe a 94% precision for the English DBpedia KB and 95% precision for the 3cixty Nice KB. We also assessed the performance of our consistency analysis by using five learning models over three sub-tasks, namely minimum cardinality, maximum cardinality, and range constraint. We observed that the best performing model in our experimental setup is the Random Forest, reaching an F1 score greater than 90% for minimum and maximum cardinality and 84% for range constraints., Comment: Accepted for Journal of Web Semantics

We derive closed formulas for the mass and spin parameters of a Kerr black hole in terms of a minimal quantity of observational data: the red-/blue-shifts of photons emitted by massive particles (stars) moving on geodesics around the black hole and their respective orbital radius. It turns out that given a set of two (three) stars revolving around the black hole, these formulas involve just eight (twelve) observational data. Abstract

The undercutting process is a technique employed to initiate the caving of the ore mass in block caving, achieved by creating a basal cut on the block scheduled to be submerged. The effective execution of the undercutting process involves numerous variables, such as the undercut height and the vertical section's undercut geometry, whose influence has often been overlooked. This research presents a methodology for determining the undercut height in a post-undercutting scenario, including variables such as the undercut level design, the extraction level design, and the air gap. Integral to this methodology is a parameterization that estimates the undercut height, from which design abacuses can be created to aid the assessment of present and future operations for any block/panel caving operation that employs the post-undercutting variant. Additionally, two examples demonstrate the application of this methodology, revealing how alterations in the dimensions of the crown pillar and drawbells significantly influence the undercut height. The calculation methodology outlined in this document delivers an undercutting height, providing an evaluation methodology for ongoing operations. Consequently, any height exceeding this suggests a conservative approach, potentially offering an opportunity for design improvement and alignment with the described parameters.
