Abstract

This study focuses on the exergy analysis of the fish waste drying system using a rotary dryer. The effect of the initial mass of fish waste on the exergy parameters was carried out. The exergy balance was applied in the drying chamber. The exergy parameters analyzed include exergy inflow, exergy outflow, exergy loss, and exergy efficiency. In terms of exergy sustainability, the sustainability index, environmental impact factor, waste energy ratio, and improvement potential were also analyzed. As a result, it was found that the exergy inflow for all initial masses was not significantly different. Meanwhile, if the fish waste's initial mass is decreasing, the exergy outflow and exergy efficiency increase, and exergy loss decrease. The sustainability index decreases, and the environmental impact factor increases with increasing initial mass. Waste energy ratio and improvement potential increase with increasing initial mass. Abstract

This study addresses a statistical characterization of the interfacial behaviors during gas/liquid counter-current flow in a large scale of pressurized water reactor’s hot leg typical geometry on the basis of both time and frequency domain analyses. Here, the visualizations were captured by high-speed cameras. Furthermore, the image processing algorithm on the basis of pixel identification was developed to identify the time-series interfacial dynamics of the liquid holdup fluctuations, comprising the wave growth and its movement. The obtained data were further analyzed by using various advanced statistical tools comprising the probability density function, power spectral density function, and also discrete wavelet transform. Additionally, chaotic levels of the flow were obtained through the Kolmogorov-entropy analysis. Particular results reveal that a typical mechanism of flooding begins with the appearance of a wavy interface which further develops into either a roll or large wave, and later blocks the entire cross-sectional area of the conduit around the bend region. This later stage indicates the inception of flooding which is characterized by the increase of the water level close to the bend region. Next, the higher the pressure of system, the higher the frequency occurrence of slugging, while the injected gas flow rate obtained a different trend. However, the Kolmogorov entropy enables to correlate the stabilizing effect due to the fluid resistance which corresponds to either the pressure of the system or the physical properties of the fluid. In addition, there were no significant differences between the flooding mechanisms for both the air/water and steam/water flows.

Abstract

Airlift pump-bubble generator is a development of the conventional airlift pump in the injector design. It uses a bubble generator to supply the bubble in the riser pipe. This method can be used to lift water and solid particles. In the current study, the airlift pump-bubble generator was operated only to lift water using a transparent acrylic riser pipe with 56 mm diameter and 2550 mm length. Water and air were the working fluid with the water level in the riser pipe was setted-up for a submergence ratio of 0.74, and the injected air flow rate was varied from 0.3 m3/h to 3 m3/h with the flow rate of injected water to the bubble generator being kept constant at 7.5 m3/h. Two bubble generator units with an angle of 45° to the horizontal and opposite directions were attached to the mouth bell-shaped suction head to form a swirl flow. A high-speed camera and a pressure tap were used to recording the video of flow pattern and pressure signals in the test section, respectively. The flow pattern was objectively classified by using wavelet analysis. As a result, it was found that the flow regimes were assigned into clustered bubbles, homogenous bubbles, cap bubbles, bubbly-stable slugs, bubbly-unstable slugs, and slug churn when the air flow rate was increased. The distribution of energy fluctuation will have a peak in the signal approximation section of the large scale when the bubble regime flows in the test section, while the peak of the energy fluctuation distribution will occur in the detailed signal when the slug regime is flowing. Abstract

This research has been conducted to study geothermal potential in the Ijen area of Banyuwangi - East Java, Indonesia based on the resistivity method with Schlumberger configuration by using a Nanura resistivity meter device, model NRD 22S, and Garmin GPS. This study aims to understand the distribution and the thickness of the reservoir. The results showed that the lithology found in Ijen are tuff, volcanic breccia, lava, sulfur, and a mix of sand and tuff is found with acidic create water. The reservoir is characterized by a low resistivity value of tuff (10.49 Om - 89.78 Om). The reservoir of Ijen Geothermal area is encountered at point 1 at a depth of 18.04 - 30.44 m with a thickness of 12.4 m and at a depth 63.38 m - 90 m with a thickness 26.62 m, at point 3 at a depth of 73.93 m - 110 m with a thickness of 36.07 m and at point 5 at a depth of 1.91 m - 24.95 m with thickness of 23.04 m and a depth of 32.56 m - 45 m with thickness of 12.44 m. The 3D modeling is done on the resulting lithology, where reservoir which is the main target of this study has a volume of 20.802.000 m3 which is about 42.7% of the total volume of the 3D model.
