The primary products 7-MBA-12-CH2-C8dG (MBA = methylbenz(a)anthracene), 7-MBA-12-CH2-N7Gua and 12-MBA-7-CH2-N7Gua and the secondary products 7-MBA-12-CH2-C8Gua and 7,12-(CH2OH)2-BA were obtained from the anodic oxidation of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene in the presence of dG. The structures were determined by NMR, COSY and NOE spectroscopy. The mechanism of the electrochemical oxidation was proposed to proceed through the reaction of the methyl groups with nucleophilic groups of dA and dG as analyzed from FAB MS/MS and FLNS techniques.

Iron nanoparticles were synthesized in situ within the channels of a microchannel glass by differentially pumping across the plate in conjunction with plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The microchannel glass was mounted on a custom designed differentially pumped sample holder, which produced 10 Torr of differential pressure across the 5 μm channels. The iron precursor was ferrocene [(C[sub 5]H[sub 5])[sub 2]–Fe]. The composition and structure of the nanoparticles was determined by electron diffraction to be Fe[sub 3]O[sub 4], where oxidation of the nanoparticles occurred upon exposure to air. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the formation of nanoparticles ranging in size from 150 to 960 nm, which are formed from smaller nanoparticles on the order of 5–10 nm. The large nanoparticles (150–960 nm) grow independently of one another and are largely freestanding within the channels, i.e., they are not highly attached to the channel walls or agglomerated. The magnetic signature of the large nanoparticles is consistent with ferrimagnetic Fe[sub 3]O[sub 4]. The magnetic hysteresis loops of the particles are reminiscent of superparamagnetic behavior, which would suggest that the magnetic coupling between the 5 and 10 nm nanoparticles is weak. OBJECTIVE: In the last decades, immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) raised in frequency, and prepectoral positioning of the implant is becoming the trend nowadays. The aim of this paper is to describe our case series in IBR with prepectoral implant placement and complete coverage of it with the TiLoop® Bra titanium-coated polypropylene mesh (TCPM), pre-shaped as a pocket. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eighteen women with breast tumors were selected and underwent mono- or bilateral mastectomies and prepectoral IBR with tissue expanders or prostheses. After the prepectoral lodge was ready, the implants were inserted into TiLoop® Bra Pocket meshes and positioned over the pectoralis major muscle fascia. The mean surgical time of their positioning was four minutes. RESULTS: This preliminary study showed meaningful results in prepectoral IBR with Ti- Loop® Bra Pocket covering the implants, for we observed a reduction of implant's exposure time and risk of bacterial contamination. Of the 18 patients that underwent this procedure, only three presented complications that resolved in a maximum of four weeks. CONCLUSIONS: A considering reduction of surgical time in implant positioning was achieved, lowering exposure time and risk of complications as infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy in individuals affected by primary or idiopathic frozen shoulder, considering only studies that employed a randomized controlled trial. Methods. A systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out according to PRISMA guidelines. Three bibliographic databases were searched: MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and PEDro. The minimum prerequisites for papers to be included in the systematic review were that they had to (a) employ a randomized controlled trial; (b) be published in English or Italian language. The studies were evaluated according to Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias and Jadad scale. Results. Twelve studies in systematic review and nine studies in meta-analysis were included. Conclusions. Frozen shoulder is a condition whose therapeutic targets could change due to symptoms and stage. Rehabilitation program, particularly end-range mobilization techniques and therapeutic exercise are the most effective in reducing pain and increasing function in sub-acute phases. OBJECTIVE: After massive weight loss, patients that meet specific criteria can be inserted in an ad-hoc post-bariatric surgery list in order to be subjected to body contouring procedures. During COVID-19 pandemic, the Italian National Health System has been overwhelmed by the continue load of life-threatening patients that needed medical assistance. Plastic surgery practice enormously scaled back during this period and this fact greatly affected elective procedures waiting lists. The aim of our study is to analyze how the lockdown and its related sanitary policies affected post-bariatric patients’ behaviors towards the delay of their procedure. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A 7-item questionnaire was administered to all patients. Change in the desire to be subjected to body contouring procedures was recorded. Smoking status, level of training during quarantine and psychological co-morbidities were also evaluated. RESULTS: 124 patients completed the questionnaire. Data analysis showed that none of them encountered a decrease of the desire to be subjected to post-bariatric plastic surgery procedures. CONCLUSIONS: The present study showed that all the patients in the waiting list did not modify their interest in being subjected to post-bariatric surgery procedures, even though the waiting time increased.
