Clubfoot is a common congenital deformity of the lower limbs. It should be treated as soon as possible so that its correction is more easily achieved. The objective of this systematic review was to assess the effectiveness of the Ponseti method in the treatment of clubfoot. A bibliographic search was carried out in different databases, including PubMed and SciELO. Filters such as full text and randomized controlled trial were selected to find those articles that best matched our search. Among the results, we selected the ones that interested us, and the rest were discarded, either because they did not meet the requirements for our work or because they were repeated. In total, we collected 19 articles, but after using the critical evaluation instrument CASPe, 7 of them were eliminated, leaving us with a total of 12 articles for our systematic review. After analyzing the results obtained in the selected articles, we concluded that the Ponseti method is effective in the treatment of clubfoot, presenting a high success rate.

Background and Objetives: The foot is a part of the body’s kinetic chain and needs to be efficient during the entire gait cycle. Electronic Sensor Gait analysis is useful and an important tool within the area of podiatry to assess the physical state of patients that helps the comprehensive intervention in situations where the daily activity is limited. The aim of this research is to evaluate if the presence of a hallux limitus (HL) can alter gait space–time parameters and consequently can affect the take-off phase of the gait and the limitation of the range of motion (ROM) of the hallux. Materials and Methods: A case–control study was designed to verify whether there are alterations in the spatiotemporal parameters of the gait cycle between subjects with structural HL compared to the group of subjects with a normal hallux range. A total of n = 138 participants, cases (68 HL subjects) and healthy controls (70 subjects) were studied using an OptoGait LED sensor system to identify gait imbalances using OptoGait photocell gait analysis sensors. Results: Significant differences were found between the two groups with respect to stride length, gait cycle duration in seconds (for both feet) and for total stride and load response (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The limitation of the Hallux ROM may alter the normal gait patterns measured with an Optogait system. The early identification and treatment of gait disturbances due to HL are important to achieve normal gait physical activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

[Resumo] Introdución: a esclerose múltiple é unha enfermidade autoinmune crónica que afecta ao sistema nervioso central, de tal xeito que afecta ao individuo en función da zona afectada. O obxectivo é determinar o nivel de medo ao movemento ou kinesiofobia, niveis de depresión e estado de saúde dos pés en pacientes con esclerose múltiple, comparándoos con controis sans. Métodos: Realizáronse tres estudos observacionais e transversais, onde os casos son persoas que padecen esclerose múltiple e os controis son persoas sas para determinar diferentes factores que poden estar relacionados coa enfermidade en base ao medo ao movemento ou a cinesiofobia co Escala de Tampa para Kinesiophobia de 11 ítems (I), o impacto da depresión medido co Beck Depression Inventory (II) e Foot Health co Foot Health Status Questionnaire (III). Resultados: as persoas con esclerose múltiple presentaron diferenzas significativas nos tres estudos: maior medo ao movemento e á actividade física (I), maiores niveis de depresión en todos os intervalos de BDI (II) e peor saúde xeral e dos pés, afectando negativamente á actividade física, á vitalidade. e vigor (III). Métodos: se realizaron tres estudios observacionales y transversales, donde los casos son personas que padecen esclerosis múltiple y los controles son personas sanas para determinar diferentes factores que pueden estar vinculados a la enfermedad atendiendo al miedo al movimiento o kinesiofobia con la Escala Tampa para Kinesiofobia de 11 ítems (I), el impacto de la depresión medido con el Beck Depression Inventory (II) y la Salud del Pie con el Foot Health Status Questionnaire (III). Resultados: las personas con esclerosis múltiple presentaron diferencias significativas en los tres estudios: mayor miedo al movimiento y a realizar actividad física (I), niveles de depresión superiores en todos los rangos de BDI (II) y peor salud general y en el pie afectando negativamente a la actividad física, la vitalidad y el vigor (III). The objective is to determine the level of fear of movement or kinesiophobia, levels of depression and state of foot health in patients with multiple sclerosis, comparing them with healthy controls. Methods: three observational and cross-sectional studies were carried out, where the cases are people suffering from multiple sclerosis and the controls are healthy people to determine different factors that may be linked to the disease based on fear of movement or kinesiophobia with the 11-item Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (I), the impact of depression measured with the Beck Depression Inventory (II) and Foot Health with the Foot Health Status Questionnaire (III). Results: people with multiple sclerosis presented significant differences in the three studies: greater fear of movement and physical activity (I), higher levels of depression in all BDI ranges (II) and worse general and foot health, negatively affecting to physical activity, vitality and vigor (III). [Abstract] Objectives: To assess quality of life or factors related to the foot and general health and to determine the impact taking into account foot health status in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: 50 subjects with MS and 50 healthy subjects were studied using the Foot Health Status Questionnaire, that is a validated and is reliable tool was used to assess foot health and quality of life. This instrument comprise four domains for evaluate the foot health (foot function, foot pain, footwear and general foot health) in the first section and for measure the general health comprise four domains (general health, physical activity, social capacity and vigor) for second section and was use for all participants. Results: In both groups of the sample, 50% (n = 15) were men and 50% (n = 35) women, and the mean age in the case group was 48.04 ± 10.49 and the control group was 48.04 ± 10.45 were recruited. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was shown for foot function, general foot health, general health, physical activity and vigor domains, stating that people with MS have a lower related to foot health (lower FHSQ scores) compared to healthy subjects who have higher FHSQ scores. There were no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) for the scores of the other domains of the FHSQ (foot pain, footwear and social capacity). Conclusion: Patients with MS suffer a negative impact on the quality of life related to foot health, which appears to be associated with the chronic disease.

[Abstract] Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects bothhealth of the feet, as to gait patterns. This study aimed to find out about footproblems and their impact on self-perceived quality of life and related to foothealth in Parkinson's patients compared to a group of healthy subjects and tomeasure it with Spanish Podiatry Health Questionnaire (PHQ-S). It is about acase–control study in a sample of Parkinson's patients n=62, healthy controlsn=62. The PHQ-S was reported, it describes perception the subject has ineach of podiatric 6 dimensions consulted, assessing appreciation of health sta-tus of interviewee's feet and a self-rated the foot health score on the visual ana-log scale (VAS). There were statistically significant differences (P< 0.05) inthe dimensions that assessed problems with walking and moving, nail trim-ming, concern feet state, and affectation of quality of life related foot health.Regarding the self-perception of state of their feet, Parkinson's patientsperceive a worse state of health of their feet than healthy subjects. The meanvalue was 4.8 (SD 2.2) for Parkinson's patients and 3.8 (SD 2.3) for healthysubjects. In conclusion, patients with PD have problems in walking or moving,foot pain, difficulties in foot hygiene and in cutting for their nails, as well asthe concern they suffer from deterioration in state of their feet affect them anddecrease their quality of life.
