Patent databases represent an essential source of easily accessible information and technological knowledge. Inherent difficulties in the search for useful knowledge, in particular situations from large volumes of companies’ data, have resulted in little exploration in patent databases. The focus in this work was to evaluate the use of automated mind maps as an auxiliary tool in the discovery of knowledge in patent databases. In this context, the objective was to analyze the patent information in a contributory perspective for the sustainability of water and sewage companies. We performed the study using the participant observation technique in a basic sanitation company and resulted in discovering alternatives to improve crucial processes and producing discussions about new technologies aimed at the sector's sustainability. The company selected for the research is within a context of activities in constant challenge for innovations, since the collection and treatment of sewage is currently a problem of global proportions and of great impact in matters of environmental sustainability. In the Sanitation Sector, certain approaches are not necessarily new and much of what is preached in the Circular Economy has already taken place. For example, making beneficial use of sludge in the soil, production and use of reuse water, use of biogas for generating electricity, and heat and energy or bio-methane. The results pointed to the adding of the use of mind maps as another possibility for the discovery of knowledge in the analysis of patents.

International audience; Objective: To demonstrate the possibility of relating bibliographical review and patent technometry in a study on the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).Method:Technometryin patents using a mind map generated from the classification of 466 patent registers. The prospecting of patents was carried out through the software Patent2Net accessing the database of the European Patent Office (EPO).Originality/Relevance:Research in patent databases as a source of information has been growing substantially with advances in information technology, but the identification of relevant records in a given context from the large volume of data available is still a challenge. In this work, we have analysed a method that has not yet been published, which deals with patent technometry with the use of mind maps.Results:The patent records found were related to the main problems mentioned in the literature on WEEE recycling, involving the following aspects: a) separation of high-value components from other elements. b) reduction of the environmental impact of battery recycling; c) transformation of solid waste into material useful or harmless to the environment; d) separation of metals from plastic waste; e) solutions for the adequate collection of residues from the domestic environment; and e) techniques to reduce the health impact of recycling professionals.Theoretical/methodological contributions:Presentation of the method of patent analysisby mind maps as a complementary resource to bibliographic research in studies aimed at technological innovation.

As unidades de conservação são áreas geograficamente dotadas de atributos ambientais, sendo requerida ou sugerida por meio de estudo, objetivando a preservação e proteção da biodiversidade. Neste sentido as imagens de satélite são grandes ferramentas para monitorar o ecossistema. Diante disso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos sobre o uso e ocupação do solo após a criação da unidade conservação Monumento Natural Morro de Santo Antônio no estado de Mato Grosso. O estudo foi realizado no Monumento Natural Morro de Santo Antônio, distante 15 km da capital do Estado de Mato Grosso, localizado na divisa dos municípios de Cuiabá e Santo Antônio de Leverger no Cerrado Brasileiro. Foram adquiridas, junto ao USGS, imagens dos satélites Landsat 5 e 8, nos anos de 2005 a 2015, com resolução espacial de 30 m. Para o estudo da dinâmica da vegetação foram computados os índices de vegetação e umidade da superfície: NDVI, EVI e NDMI. Os resultados apresentados neste trabalho demonstram que após a criação da MoNa no ano de 2006, comparado a 2015, a classe Cerrado nativo, apresentou aumento de 3,38%, na classe da Vegetação rasteira, aumento de 5,59%, e na classe Mata densa, aumento de 2,21%. Em comparação as demais classes, a classe Vegetação rasteira demonstrou maior predominância. As análises das estimativas de todos os índices foram menores no ano de 2006, enquanto que no ano de 2015, foram maiores.

Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effects on the soil use and occupation after the creation of the conservation unit Morro de Santo Antônio Natural Monument in the state of Mato Grosso. The study was carried out in Morro de Santo Antônio, distant 15 km from the capital of the State of Mato Grosso, located at the border of the municipalities of Cuiabá and Santo Antônio de Leverger in Brazilian Cerrado. Images from the Landsat 5 and 8 satellites were acquired from the USGS from 2005 to 2015, with spatial resolution of 30 m. For the study of vegetation dynamics, vegetation and moisture indexes of the NDMI surface were computed. The results presented in this study demonstrate that after the MoNa creation, the index was lower in 2006, while in the year 2015, was higher.Keywords: Remote Sensing. Conservation Unit. Patent databases represent an essential source of information and technological know-how that are easily accessible to any organisation, but they are still little explored in this sense, due, among other factors, to the difficulties inherent in finding useful knowledge in particular situations from large volumes of data. The mind mapping technique as a facilitator of learning has been applied successfully in teaching and professional settings. In this sense, the objective of the research presented is to investigate how the mind map technique can be used in the discovery of organisational knowledge in patent bases. Adopting a phenomenological approach, the research strategy chosen is based on the concept of action research applied in two studies, the first in a small commercial enterprise, and the second in a large service company. Patents were analysed by mental maps on strategic themes for each organisation, with detailed monitoring and step-by-step registration of the participants in the discovery of patent knowledge by this method. The first study resulted in the development of new potential suppliers, led to the discussion about new possible markets for the organisation and identification of technological trends for the product lines in force in the period of the research. In the second study, the participating organisation identified more efficient technological alternatives for a major project in progress, opportunities for improvement of critical processes and possibilities of new business in waste recycling. The main contributions of this work are the development and public availability of the automated mechanism of patents mind map generation; in demonstrating the use of this mechanism in corporate environments; in the proposal of the use of mental maps as a complementary technique in the discovery of patent knowledge; and the broadening of the discussion on the possibilities of learning and developing innovations from patent databases using automated mind maps. O desenvolvimento do conhecimento organizacional é um dos aspectos fundamentais para a capacidade de inovação das organizações e, consequentemente, para o aumento da competitividade no mercado local e principalmente em contextos globais. As bases de dados de patentes representam uma fonte importante de informações e conhecimentos tecnológicos de fácil acesso a qualquer organização, porém ainda são pouco exploradas neste sentido, devido, entre outros fatores, às dificuldades inerentes a busca de conhecimentos úteis em situações particulares a partir de grandes volumes de dados. A técnica de elaboração de mapas mentais como ferramenta facilitadora da aprendizagem tem sido aplicada com sucesso em ambientes de ensino e profissionais. Nesse sentido, o objetivo da pesquisa apresentada é investigar como se pode aplicar a técnica dos mapas mentais na descoberta de conhecimentos organizacionais em bases de patentes. Adotando-se uma abordagem fenomenológica, a estratégia de pesquisa escolhida está baseada no conceito de pesquisa-ação aplicado em dois estudos, o primeiro em uma empresa comercial de pequeno porte, e o segundo em uma empresa de serviços de grande porte. Foram realizadas análises de patentes por mapas mentais sobre temas estratégicos para cada organização, com acompanhamento e registro detalhado do passo a passo dos participantes na descoberta de conhecimentos em patentes por esse método. O primeiro estudo resultou na descoberta de novos fornecedores potencias, provocou a discussão sobre novos possíveis mercados de atuação da organização e a identificação de tendências tecnológicas para as linhas de produtos vigentes no período da pesquisa. No segundo estudo, a organização participante identificou alternativas tecnológicas mais eficientes para um grande projeto em andamento, oportunidades para melhoria de processos críticos e possibilidades de novos negócios na reciclagem de resíduos. As principais contribuições deste trabalho estão no desenvolvimento e disponibilização pública do mecanismo automatizado de geração de mapas mentais de patentes; na demonstração do uso desse mecanismo em ambientes corporativos; na proposta do uso de mapas mentais como uma técnica complementar na descoberta de conhecimentos em patentes; e na ampliação da discussão sobre as possibilidades de aprendizagem e desenvolvimento de inovações a partir das bases de dados de patentes usando mapas mentais automatizados.

International audience; Patents are an unused informational source in research and education. We stated that patent documents are an information source opening a wide variety of usage (monitoring, strategic positioning, technical document for innovation and state of the art) for a wide variety of users (researchers, Small and medium Enterprises (SME) and start-ups). Hence, patents are a key resource in education but difficult to read. The European Patent Database (EspaceNet) offers 100 million of demands in free access mode to their worldwide range database. We consider it as a technological encyclopedia: most of its content is free of rights. Patent2Net (P2N) is a free open-source patent analysis tool that offers the potential to extract patents from the worldwide database and to develop new data collections in very wide variety of domains (for instance: education, banana peel, rare earth, drones, or the list of last year demands (more than 1 Million documents) and so on). As an example, we propose to explore a huge set of patents using several data mining tools and visualization techniques (dynamic networks, textometry application, classification). We use several key information representations to explore the set: cartographies of a technology using mind maps, the network of actors or applicants, k-means clusters and many other features directly in concern with innovation, knowledge, and education.

A new dual impeller centrifugal blood pump has been developed as a research collaboration between Baylor College of Medicine and Institute Dante Pazzanese of Cardiology for long-term left ventricle assist device (LVAD). A design feature of this new pump is a dual impeller that aims to minimize a stagnant flow pattern around the inlet port. Several different materials were tested in order to adopt a double pivot bearing design originally developed by Prof. Dr. Yukihiko Nosé from Baylor College of Medicine. Hydraulic performance tests were conducted with two different inlet ports' angle configurations 30 degrees and 45 degrees . Pump with inlet port angle of 45 degrees achieved best values of pressure ahead and flow after 1800 rpm. Preliminary hemolysis tests were conducted using human blood. The pump showed good performance results and no alarming trace of hemolysis, proving to be a feasible long-term LVAD.

Baurusuchus salgadoensis is a new baurusuchid crocodylomorph from Bauru Basin (Cretaceous), Brazil, partially preserved through a complete skull. The fossil comes from a fine sandstone sequence of Adamantina Formation, General Salgado County, Sao Paulo State. The sedimentary sequence where it was found, located in Fazenda Buriti, is considered Turonian-Santonian in age. The described species _Baurusuchus salgadoensis sp. nov. _ is a baurusuchid with an antorbital fenestra, double external nares with a bony septum, two well-fused supraorbitals, the supratemporal fenestrae larger than the orbits and a quadrangular-shaped laterotemporal fenestra. The position of the external nares, located on anterior and terminal portion of the rostrum together with the theropod-like lateral compression of the snout and teeth are indicators that Baurusuchus salgadoensis was a terrestrial crocodyliform. This was a carnivorous species and the lateral compression of the rostrum could be interpreted as a mechanism to increase the skull resistance forces during biting. The pointed, conical teeth, some with crenulated borders, could be used to perforate and to carve the prey. The geological context of Baurusuchus salgadoensis indicates that it probably lived in a hot and arid climate.

It is well known that during the deposition of the Crato Member, semi-arid paleoclimatic conditions prevailed in the northeast of Brazil and influenced the Araripe Basin [1, 2, 3, 4]. The presence of a system of lakes associated with the deposition of the Santana Formation may have favoured the maintenance of a more humid microclimate than the semi-arid conditions prevailing in the surrounding region, or at least a wetter season [5].

An implantable centrifugal blood pump has been developed with original features for a ventricle assist device (VAD). This pump is part of a multicenter and international study with objective to offer simple, affordable, and reliable devices to developing countries. Previous computational fluid dynamics investigations were performed followed by prototyping and in vitro tests. Also, previous blood tests for assessment of hemolysis showed mean normalized index of hemolysis (NIH) results of 0.0054 ± 2.46 × 10⁻³ mg/100 L (at 5 L/min and 100 mm Hg). To precede in vivo evaluation, measurements of magnetic coupling interference and enhancements of actuator control were necessary. Methodology was based on the study of two different work situations (1 and 2) studied with two different types of motors (A and B). Situation 1 is when the rotor of pump is closest to the motor and situation 2 its opposite. Torque and mechanical power were collected with a dynamometer (80 g/cm) and then plotted and compared for two situations and both motors. The results showed that motor A has better mechanical behavior and less influence of coupling. Results for situation 1 showed that it is more often under magnetic coupling influence than situation 2. The studies lead to the conclusion that motor A is the best option for in vivo studies as it has less influence of magnetic coupling in both situations.

An implantable centrifugal blood pump has been developed with original features for a left ventricular assist device. This pump is part of a multicenter and international study with the objective to offer simple, affordable, and reliable devices to developing countries. Previous computational fluid dynamics investigations and wear evaluation in bearing system were performed followed by prototyping and in vitro tests. In addition, previous blood tests for assessment of normalized index of hemolysis show results of 0.0054±2.46 × 10⁻³ mg/100 L. An electromechanical actuator was tested in order to define the best motor topology and controller configuration. Three different topologies of brushless direct current motor (BLDCM) were analyzed. An electronic driver was tested in different situations, and the BLDCM had its mechanical properties tested in a dynamometer. Prior to evaluation of performance during in vivo animal studies, anatomical studies were necessary to achieve the best configuration and cannulation for left ventricular assistance. The results were considered satisfactory, and the next step is to test the performance of the device in vivo.

Part 13: Control Systems; International audience; An implantable centrifugal blood pump was developed for long-term ventricular assistance in cardiac patients. In vitro tests were performed, as wear evaluation, performance tests and hemolysis tests in human blood. Numerical computational simulations were performed during design process in order to predict its best geometry. Wear evaluations helped to select the best materials for double pivot bearing system proposed to achieve longer durability. Performance tests pointed the best impeller geometry. The implantable centrifugal blood pump was compared with other blood pumps founded in literature. The proposed implantable centrifugal blood pump showed the best performance. But, its results showed a strong descendant curve in high flow. Other prototype was manufactured with a different inlet port angle to overcome this problem. The normalized index of hemolysis (NIH) measured 0.0054 mg/100L that can be considered excellent since it is close to the minimum found in literature (between 0.004 g/ 100L e 0.02 g/ 100L). The authors’ expectation is that this pump will become a promising Technological Innovation for Sustainability.

Essa dissertação propôs como tema de estudo um panorama das energias renováveis e menos poluentes no Brasil, com enfoque para as mudanças climáticas globais, mais especificamente a emissão de gases de efeito estufa. O objetivo da pesquisa foi analisar a matriz energética brasileira no que se refere à relação entre a oferta de energia renovável, regulamentada pelas políticas e programas governamentais e a emissão de gases de efeito estufa. Esta análise foi realizada por meio de uma contextualização da matriz energética brasileira no panorama mundial, da relação entre os usos de energias com as mudanças climáticas globais e do estudo dos programas energéticos brasileiros e sua contribuição para minimizar a emissão de poluentes atmosféricos. Para o desenvolvimento deste estudo foi realizado um levantamento histórico, por meio de revisão bibliográfica, do uso da energia e de programas energéticos governamentais, da oferta de energia e emissões de CO2 e cenários para o ano de 2030, dos acordos internacionais e mecanismos para a mitigação de mudanças climáticas, dos setores da sociedade brasileira que mais consomem energia e quais as fontes utilizadas por esses setores, das tecnologias de energias renováveis disponíveis e os danos climáticos por elas causados nos processos energéticos. A ótica epistemológica sistêmica fundamentou essa dissertação, cujo método mostrou-se adequado ao encaminhamento da questão energética para o jogo de harmonização entre recursos naturais, consumo e danos climáticos, com base na visão de uma ecossocioeconomia. Como principais resultados verificou-se que é possível aumentar a participação de energias renováveis e menos poluentes tais como eólica, solar, PCH e biomassa na matriz energética brasileira e promover a eficiência energética de forma a aumentar a oferta de energia, diminuindo a necessidade da utilização de recursos energéticos naturais e os impactos ambientais decorrentes. Constatou-se que as políticas e programas energéticos governamentais contribuem para o incentivo do uso de energias renováveis e para a melhoria dos índices de poluentes atmosféricos. Concluiu-se que para mitigar a emissão de gases de efeito estufa a partir dos processos energéticos e simultaneamente garantir a continuidade do desenvolvimento econômico faz-se necessário um conjunto de medidas que inclua: a substituição gradativa de fontes fósseis na matriz energética por fontes renováveis, associada à eficiência energética e a programas governamentais integrados e viáveis em termos políticos, econômicos, tecnológicos e sócio-ambientais. Observou-se que há um jogo de forças envolvendo energia entre as necessidades sócio-ambientais e de desenvolvimento econômico e, portanto, no momento presente e para um futuro próximo não há como descartar a total utilização de energias não renováveis (termelétricas a combustíveis fósseis e a energia nuclear e combustíveis fósseis para o setor de transportes), tendo em vista a necessidade de se atender à questão da segurança energética. This thesis proposed as subject of study an overview of renewable and less pollutant energy in Brazil, focusing on global climate change, specifically the emission of greenhouse gases. The objective of the research is to analyze the Brazilian energy matrix with respect to the relation between the supply of renewable energy, regulated by governmental policies and programs, and the issue of greenhouse gases. This analysis is made through a contextualization of the Brazilian energy matrix in the world scene, of the relation between the uses of energy and global climate change, and of the analysis of energy programs in Brazil and their contribution to minimize the emission of air pollutants. For this study, a historical survey was conducted, by means of literature review, on the use of energy and governmental energy programs, energy supply, CO2 emissions and scenarios for the year 2030, international agreements and mechanisms for climate change mitigation, sectors of Brazilian society that consume more energy and what are the sources they use, renewable energy technologies available and the climate damage caused by them in energy processes. The systemic epistemological view has based this thesis, since this method was suitable for the managing of the energy issue for the game of harmonization among natural resources, consumption and climate damage, based on the view of an ecossocioeconomia. The main results showed that it is possible to increase the share of less pollutant and renewable energy such as wind, solar, small hydropower plants and biomass in the Brazilian energy matrix and promote energy efficiency in order to increase the supply of energy, reducing the need of using natural energy resources and the consequent environmental impact. It was noted that governmental energy policies and programs contribute to encourage the use of renewable energy and to improve levels of air pollutants. It was concluded that, in order to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases from energy processes while guaranteeing the continuity of economic development, a set of measures is necessary, including: gradual replacement of fossil fuels in energy matrix by renewable sources, in association with energy efficiency, and integrated and viable governmental programs in political, economic, technological and socio-environmental terms. It was observed that there is an interplay of forces involving energy between socio-environmental and economic development and, therefore, at present and near future there is no way to rule out the use of totally non-renewable energy (thermoelectric power plants run by fossil fuels and nuclear energy, and fossil fuels for the transportation sector), considering the need to address the issue of energy safety. 5000-11-25

Remains of a new titanosaur, Aeolosaurus maximus sp. nov., from the Adamantina Formation (Upper Cretaceous), Bauru Group, Sao Paulo State of Brazil are described. The new species is represented by a single partially articulated skeleton and is characterized by having a well-developed posterior protuberance below the articular area on the anterior and middle haemal arches and a lateral bulge on the distal portion of the articular process of the mid-posterior haemal arches. It shares with other Aeolosaurus species the presence of prezygapophyses curved downward on anterior caudal vertebrae and haemal arches with double articular facets set in a concave posterodorsal surface. These two characteristics are interpreted here as synapomorphies for the genus Aeolosaurus. The new diagnosis for the genus Aeolosaurus does not support the inclusion of Gondwanatitan within Aeolosaurus as previously proposed by some authors. The phylogenetic analysis recovered the two Aeolosaurus from Argentina as sister groups with A. maximus and Gondwanatitan as progressively more basal taxa (Gondwanatitan (A. maximus (A. rionegrinus, A. colhuehuapensis))). Additionally, according to the results of the phylogenetic analysis performed in this work, the taxa Panamericansaurus, Rinconsaurus, and Maxakalisaurus are also nested within Aeolosaurini, being more basal than Aeolosaurus and Gondwanatitan. On the basis of the stratigraph-ical range of the Aeolosaurus occurrences in Argentina and the age proposals based on microfossils for the Bauru Group, it is assumed a Campanian–Maastrichtian age for the top of the Adamantina Formation for the Monte Alto region in Sao Paulo State and the bottom of the Marilia Formation in Peiropolis, Minas Gerais State—the places where Aeolosaurus remains have been reported in Brazil.
