Abstract Background Acute monocytic leukemia-M5 (AML-M5) remains a challenging disease due to its high morbidity and poor prognosis. In addition to the evidence mentioned earlier, several studies have shown that programmed cell death (PCD) serves a critical function in treatment of AML-M5. However, the role and relationship between ferroptosis and necroptosis in AML-M5 remains unclear. Methods THP-1 cells were mainly treated with Erastin and IMP-366. The changes of ferroptosis and necroptosis levels were detected by CCK-8, western blot, quantitative real-time PCR, and electron microscopy. Flow cytometry was applied to detect the ROS and lipid ROS levels. MDA, 4-HNE, GSH and GSSG were assessed by ELISA kits. Intracellular distribution of FSP1 was studied by immunofluorescent staining and western blot. Results The addition of the myristoylation inhibitor IMP-366 to erastin-treated acute monocytic leukemia cell line THP-1 cell not only resulted in greater susceptibility to ferroptosis characterized by lipid peroxidation, glutathione (GSH) depletion and mitochondrial shrinkage, as the FSP1 position on membrane was inhibited, but also increased p-RIPK1 and p-MLKL protein expression, as well as a decrease in caspase-8 expression, and triggered the characteristic necroptosis phenomena, including cytoplasmic translucency, mitochondrial swelling, membranous fractures by FSP1 migration into the nucleus via binding importin α2. It is interesting to note that ferroptosis inhibitor fer-1 reversed necroptosis. Conclusion We demonstrated that inhibition of myristoylation by IMP-366 is capable of switching ferroptosis and ferroptosis-dependent necroptosis in THP-1 cells. In these findings, FSP1-mediated ferroptosis and necroptosis are described as alternative mechanisms of PCD of THP-1 cells, providing potential therapeutic strategies and targets for AML-M5.

The technology of power to hydrogen (P2H) and natural gas mixed hydrogen is highly regarded in theoretical research and engineering application in promoting the consumption of renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. Targeting the park integrated energy system with high proportion renewable energy, an optimal configuration method of P2H considering natural gas mixed with hydrogen and cross seasonal storage is proposed. Firstly, the operational framework and energy flow relationship of the park integrated energy system are sorted out, and the mathematical models for the internal energy production, conversion, and storage equipment in the park are established. Secondly, a configuration model of P2H is established with the goal of optimizing the annual investment cost of equipment, the annual operating cost, and the carbon trading cost. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by an example analysis. The impact of changes in investment cost of electrolytic cells, the upper limit of mixed hydrogen volume fraction and cost weight coefficients of economy and low-carbon on the planned operation results are analyzed. The simulation results show that the proposed model can effectively improve the absorption capacity of renewable energy and reduce the overall economic cost and carbon emissions.

As a star two-dimensional material, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) shows a good potential in the field of electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to its low price, special physicochemical properties and a small theoretical Gibbs free energy of hydrogen adsorption. However, some disadvantages such as poor electroconductivity and inert basal planes hinder its further improvement of HER activity. Therefore, adopting carbon materials with good electrical conductivity and large specific surface area to composite with MoS2 is one of the popular strategies to improve the electrical conductivity and increase the exposure of catalytically active sites for constructing highly efficient MoS2-based electrocatalysts. Herein, in this review, we firstly gave a brief introduction of the MoS2 structure and the basic HER principle. Then, the synthesis method, catalytic performance and reaction mechanism of utilizing different carbon materials to improve the HER activity of MoS2 were summarized in detail. Finally, the existing problems and future opportunities for preparing highly active and low cost electrocatalysts assisted by carbon materials are prospected.

The accelerated warming over the Tibetan Plateau relative to global means has attracted considerable attention from the scientific community. Nevertheless, the timescale, seasonality and dominant causes of the Tibetan warming amplification have not been discussed. The seasonality of the Tibetan amplification effect at different timescales was revealed in this study. Based on the optimal fingerprinting attribution method, an attribution study of the Tibetan warming amplification was also conducted after selecting the outperforming model simulations in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6). Results showed that Tibetan warming amplification manifested in the mid-1970s. The annual amplification during 1961–2018 was 0.13 °C per decade. The warming amplification in spring started later than all the other seasons, and the strongest warming amplification occurred in winter. The change in Tibetan warming amplification also displayed distinct decadal differences at time scales shorter than 30 years. The updated models perform better in simulating the surface air temperature change on the global land scale whilst underestimating the warming over the Tibetan Plateau region, which causes a weak amplification in the model simulation. Overall, the largest deviation comes from winter. The attribution result reveals that the stronger warming response to human influence on the Tibetan Plateau than the global land is the direct cause of the Tibetan warming amplification. This finding implies the important role of local climate feedback over the Tibetan Plateau.

Thermal stability of optical near field transducers is an important issue for heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), which affects HAMR system lifetime. In this paper, dark-field scattering spectroscopy was used to study the stability of nanometer-scaled Au lollipop transducers that were subjected to thermal annealing. Variation in relative peak intensity and red-shifting in peak position can be observed in scattering spectra for transducer after annealing. Based on the optical characterizations on Au thin films and calculations of Mie scattering by finite-difference time domain simulations, the measured changes in transducer scattering properties can reflect annealing-induced variations in optical properties and dimensional feature size for the Au lollipop transducer. Dark-field scattering spectroscopy can be a promising method to examine HAMR near field transducer thermal stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), optical near field transducer (NFT) is a key component. Au is currently used as NFT material because of its strong surface plasmon effect. Due to the soft property of Au material, reliability of Au NFT becomes a key issue for realizing HAMR production. In this paper, the possibility of alternative materials, including transition metal nitrides (TMNs) and transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) to replace Au is studied. The results show that all of the listed TMN and TCO materials can meet the mechanical requirements at room temperature in terms of hardness and thermal expansion. An optical model, which includes optical waveguide, NFT and FePt media, is used to simulate NFT performances. The results indicate that the resonant wavelengths for NFT with TCO materials are longer than 1500 nm, which is not suitable for HAMR application. TMN materials are suitable for NFT application at wavelength band of around 800 nm. But the NFT efficiency is very low. ZrN is the best material among TMN materials and the efficiency of ZrN NFT is only 13% of the Au NFT's efficiency. Reducing refractive index (n) and increasing extinction coefficient (k) will both lead to efficiency increase. Increasing k contributes more in the efficiency increase, while reducing n has a relatively low NFT absorption. For materials with the same figure of merit, the NFT with larger k material has higher efficiency. Doping materials to increase the material conduction electron density and growing film with larger size grain may be the way to increase k and reduce n. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract With the power conversion efficiency of binary polymer solar cells dramatically improved, the thermal stability of the small-molecule acceptors raised the main concerns on the device operating stability. Here, to address this issue, thiophene-dicarboxylate spacer tethered small-molecule acceptors are designed, and their molecular geometries are further regulated via the thiophene-core isomerism engineering, affording dimeric TDY-α with a 2, 5-substitution and TDY-β with 3, 4-substitution on the core. It shows that TDY-α processes a higher glass transition temperature, better crystallinity relative to its individual small-molecule acceptor segment and isomeric counterpart of TDY-β, and a more stable morphology with the polymer donor. As a result, the TDY-α based device delivers a higher device efficiency of 18.1%, and most important, achieves an extrapolated lifetime of about 35000 hours that retaining 80% of their initial efficiency. Our result suggests that with proper geometry design, the tethered small-molecule acceptors can achieve both high device efficiency and operating stability.

Abstract Lymphangiogenesis in tumors provides an auxiliary route for cancer cell invasion to drainage lymph nodes, facilitating the development of lymphatic metastasis (LM). However, the mechanisms governing tumor lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic permeability in gastric cancer (GC) remain largely unknown. Here, the unprecedented role and mechanism of cysteine‐rich intestinal protein‐1 (CRIP1) in mediating the development of GC LM is uncovered. A series of assays are performed to identify downstream targets of CRIP1, and rescue experiments are performed to confirm the effects of this regulatory axis on LM. CRIP1 overexpression facilitates LM in GC by promoting lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic vessel permeability. CRIP1 promotes phosphorylation of cAMP responsive element binding protein 1(CREB1), which then mediates vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC) expression necessary for CRIP1‐induced lymphangiogenesis and transcriptionally promotes C‐C motif chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5) expression. CCL5 recruits macrophages to promote tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF‐α) secretion, eventually enhancing lymphatic permeability. The study highlights CRIP1 regulates the tumor microenvironment to promote lymphangiogenesis and LM in GC. Considering the current limited understanding of LM development in GC, these pathways provide potential targets for future therapeutics.

The extensometer of Xuzhou seismic station is mainly disturbed by rainfall and atmospheric pressure. The influence of rainfall and atmospheric pressure on extensometer is quantitatively analyzed. The results show that the response of EW component rainfall is more sensitive. The main reason for the rapid acceleration of observation data in a short time is that the sensor core is not centered in the differential voltage transformer sensor. The induced area of the biased sensor core in the differential voltage transformer sensor increases greatly, leading to an increase of the induced voltage in the observation.

Abstract We study the “inverse problem” in the context of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT): how and to what extend can one reconstruct the UV theory, given the measured values of the operator coefficients in the IR? The main obstacle of this problem is the degeneracies in the space of coefficients: a given SMEFT truncated at a finite dimension can be mapped to infinitely many UV theories. We discuss these degeneracies at the dimension-8 level, and show that positivity bounds play a crucial role in the inverse problem. In particular, the degeneracies either vanish or become significantly limited for SMEFTs that live on or close to the positivity bounds. The UV particles of these SMEFTs, and their properties such as spin, charge, other quantum numbers, and interactions with the SM particles, can often be uniquely determined, assuming dimension-8 coefficients are measured. The allowed region for SMEFTs, which forms a convex cone, can be systematically constructed by enumerating its generators. We show that a geometric notion, extremality, conveniently connects the positivity problem with the inverse problem. We discuss the implications of a SMEFT living on an extremal ray, on a k-face, and on the vertex of the positive cone. We also show that the information of the dimension-8 coefficients can be used to set exclusion limits on all individual UV states that interact with the SM, independent of specific model assumptions. Our results indicate that the dimension-8 operators encode much more information about the UV than one would naively expect, which can be used to reverse engineer the UV physics from the SMEFT.

Influence of thermal annealing on electroluminescence (EL) from multiple-Si-implanted silicon nitride films has been investigated. A reduced injection current and an enhanced EL intensity have been obtained simultaneously by increasing the annealing temperature, which results in a higher EL quantum efficiency. In addition, four emission bands are identified, and their peak energies, intensities, and full widths at half maxima are found to change with annealing temperature. A model is proposed to illustrate the carrier transport, the mechanisms of the four emission bands, and the evolution of the EL bands with annealing as well. The two major bands and the minor ultraviolet band are explained in terms of the recombination of the injected electrons in either the silicon dangling-bond (≡Si0) states or the nitride conduction band with the injected holes in either the band tail states above the nitride valence band or the valence band itself, while the minor near infrared band is attributed to the Si nanocrystals formed in the thin film. Abstract Moments of the leptonic angular distribution in the Drell-Yan process have recently been shown to be sensitive probes of a specific class of dimension-8, four-fermion operators in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory, involving a pair of quarks and leptons. The same operators are also subject to positivity bounds, when requiring the associated (unknown) UV completion to obey basic principles of quantum field theory. We perform a phenomenological study to quantify the sensitivity of the high-luminosity LHC to this set of operators and, by extension, the positivity bounds. We further extend the angular basis of moments and consider double differential information to improve the ability to disentangle the different operators, leading to a sensitivity to new physics scales up to 3 TeV. We use this information to explore the violation of positivity at the LHC as a way to test the underlying principles of quantum field theory. Finally, we present a case study which combines our results with information from other (current and prospective) experiments, as well as the positivity cone to infer the properties of possible tree-level UV completions. The data lead to robust, model-independent lower bounds on the M / g $$ M/\sqrt{g} $$ combination of the particle mass and coupling, for states that couple to right-handed leptons and/or up quarks.
