Abstract

We present a spatially resolved spectroscopic study for the metal poor HII galaxy J084220+115000 using MEGARA Integral Field Unit observations at the Gran Telescopio Canarias. We estimated the gas metallicity using the direct method for oxygen, nitrogen and helium and found a mean value of 12+$\log$(O/H)=$8.03\pm$0.06, and integrated electron density and temperature of $\sim161$ cm$^{-3}$ and $\sim15400$ K, respectively. The metallicity distribution shows a large range of $\Delta$(O/H) = 0.72 dex between the minimum and maximum (7.69$\pm$0.06 and 8.42$\pm$0.05) values, unusual in a dwarf star-forming galaxy. We derived an integrated $\log$(N/O) ratio of $-1.51\pm0.05$ and found that both N/O and O/H correspond to a primary production of metals. Spatially resolved maps indicate that the gas appears to be photoionized by massive stars according to the diagnostic line ratios. Between the possible mechanisms to explain the starburst activity and the large variation of oxygen abundance in this galaxy, our data support a possible scenario where we are witnessing an ongoing interaction triggering multiple star-forming regions localized in two dominant clumps., Comment: 24 pages, 26 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRAS

2. Gauging the superconformal group with a graded dual operator

Abstract

Based on the superconformal algebra we construct a dual operator that introduces a grading among bosonic generators independent of the boson/fermion grading of the superalgebra. This dual operator allows us to construct an action that is gauge invariant under the grading even bosonic generators. We provide a self-dual notion based on the dual operator. We use the definition of the dual operator to contruct a model with gauge invariance $SO(1,3)\times SU(N) \times U(1) \subset SU(2,2|N)$. The choice of a graded dual operator allows us to overcome technical difficulties of $U(N)$ unified theories based on the superconformal group. The gravity action reproduces the Einstein-Hilbert action in certain sector of the theory. The definition of the dual operator allows us to include fermionic matter in the gauge connection in a geometric manner. We give a summary with possible phenomenological parameters that are included in the model.

Abstract

We present LMT/AzTEC 1.1mm observations of $\sim100$ luminous high-redshift dusty star-forming galaxy candidates from the $\sim600\,$sq.deg $Herschel$-ATLAS survey, selected on the basis of their SPIRE red far-infrared colours and with $S_{500\mu\rm m}=35-80$ mJy. With an effective $\theta_{\rm FWHM}\approx9.5\,$ arcsec angular resolution, our observations reveal that at least 9 per cent of the targets break into multiple systems with SNR $\geq 4$ members. The fraction of multiple systems increases to $\sim23\,$ per cent (or more) if some non-detected targets are considered multiples, as suggested by the data. Combining the new AzTEC and deblended $Herschel$ photometry we derive photometric redshifts, IR luminosities, and star formation rates. While the median redshifts of the multiple and single systems are similar $(z_{\rm med}\approx3.6)$, the redshift distribution of the latter is skewed towards higher redshifts. Of the AzTEC sources $\sim85\,$ per cent lie at $z_{\rm phot}>3$ while $\sim33\,$ per cent are at $z_{\rm phot}>4$. Abstract

We investigate the ionised gas kinematics, physical properties and chemical abundances of SDSS$J$142947, a Green Pea galaxy at redshift z$\sim$0.17 with strong, double-peak Ly$\alpha$ emission and indirect evidence of Lyman continuum (LyC) leakage. Using high-dispersion spectroscopy, we perform a multi-component analysis of emission-line profiles. Our model consistently fits all lines as a narrow component with intrinsic velocity dispersion $\sigma \sim$40 km s$^{-1}$, and two broader blue-shifted components with $\sigma \sim$90 km s$^{-1}$ and $\sim$250 km s$^{-1}$. We find electron densities and temperatures, ionisation conditions, and direct O/H and N/O abundances for each component. A highly ionised, metal-poor, young and compact starburst dominates narrow emission, showing evidence of hard radiation fields and elevated N/O. The blue-shifted broader components are consistent with highly turbulent, possibly clumpy ionised gas at the base of a strong photoionised outflow, which accounts for $\gtrsim$50% of the integrated emission-line fluxes. The outflow is dense and metal-enriched compared to the HII regions, with expansion velocities larger than those obtained from UV interstellar absorption lines under standard assumptions. Some of these metals may be able to escape, with outflows loading factors comparable to those found in high-$z$ galaxies of similar SFR/Area. Our findings depict a two-stage starburst picture; hard radiation fields from young star clusters illuminate a turbulent and clumpy ISM that has been eroded by SNe feedback. While UV data suggest an extended Ly$\alpha$ halo with high average HI column density, LyC photons could only escape from SDSS$J$142947 through low HI density channels or filaments in the ISM approaching density-bounded conditions, traced by outflowing gas., Comment: 23 pages, 21 figures. Abstract

We present a study of the close (< 200 kpc) environment of 110 relatively local (z< 0.16) HII galaxies, selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS; DR7). We use available spectroscopic and photometric redshifts in order to investigate the presence of a close and possibly interacting companion galaxy. Our aim is to compare the physical properties of isolated and interacting HII galaxies and investigate possible systematic effects in their use as cosmological probes. We find that interacting HII galaxies tend to be more compact, less luminous and have a lower velocity dispersion than isolated ones, in agreement with previous studies on smaller samples. However, as we verified, these environmental differences do not affect the cosmologically important L_{H{\beta}}-{\sigma} correlation of the HII galaxies., Comment: 5 pages, accepted for publication in A&A

10. KNET: Integrating Hypermedia and Bayesian Modeling

Abstract

KNET is a general-purpose shell for constructing expert systems based on belief networks and decision networks. Such networks serve as graphical representations for decision models, in which the knowledge engineer must define clearly the alternatives, states, preferences, and relationships that constitute a decision basis. KNET contains a knowledge-engineering core written in Object Pascal and an interface that tightly integrates HyperCard, a hypertext authoring tool for the Apple Macintosh computer, into a novel expert-system architecture. Hypertext and hypermedia have become increasingly important in the storage management, and retrieval of information. In broad terms, hypermedia deliver heterogeneous bits of information in dynamic, extensively cross-referenced packages. The resulting KNET system features a coherent probabilistic scheme for managing uncertainty, an objectoriented graphics editor for drawing and manipulating decision networks, and HyperCard's potential for quickly constructing flexible and friendly user interfaces. 11. An Empirical Evaluation of a Randomized Algorithm for Probabilistic Inference

Abstract

In recent years, researchers in decision analysis and artificial intelligence (Al) have used Bayesian belief networks to build models of expert opinion. Using standard methods drawn from the theory of computational complexity, workers in the field have shown that the problem of probabilistic inference in belief networks is difficult and almost certainly intractable. K N ET, a software environment for constructing knowledge-based systems within the axiomatic framework of decision theory, contains a randomized approximation scheme for probabilistic inference. The algorithm can, in many circumstances, perform efficient approximate inference in large and richly interconnected models of medical diagnosis. Unlike previously described stochastic algorithms for probabilistic inference, the randomized approximation scheme computes a priori bounds on running time by analyzing the structure and contents of the belief network. In this article, we describe a randomized algorithm for probabilistic inference and analyze its performance mathematically. Then, we devote the major portion of the paper to a discussion of the algorithm's empirical behavior. The results indicate that the generation of good trials (that is, trials whose distribution closely matches the true distribution), rather than the computation of numerous mediocre trials, dominates the performance of stochastic simulation. In recent years, researchers in decision analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) have used Bayesian belief networks to build models of expert opinion. We gave precise analytic bounds on the convergence of BN-RAS and showed how to trade running time for accuracy in the evaluation of posterior marginal probabilities. We explore the possibility of setting stringent constraints to the Dark Energy equation of state using alternative cosmic tracers like: (a) the Hubble relation using HII galaxies, which can be observed at much higher redshifts (z~3.5) than those currently traced by SNIa samples, and (b) the large-scale structure using the clustering of X-ray selected AGN,which have a redshift distribution peaking at z~1. We use extensive Monte-Carlo simulations to define the optimal strategy for the recovery of the dark-energy equation of state using the high redshift (z~2) Hubble relation, but accounting also for the effects of gravitational lensing, which for such high redshifts can significantly affect the derived cosmological constraints. Abstract

We propose to use alternative cosmic tracers to measure the dark energy equation of state and the matter content of the Universe [w(z) & Omega_m]. Our proposed method consists of two components: (a) tracing the Hubble relation using HII galaxies which can be detected up to very large redshifts, z~4, as an alternative to supernovae type Ia, and (b) measuring the clustering pattern of X-ray selected AGN at a median redshift of z~1. Each component of the method can in itself provide interesting constraints on the cosmological parameters, especially under our anticipation that we will reduce the corresponding random and systematic errors significantly. However, by joining their likelihood functions we will be able to put stringent cosmological constraints and break the known degeneracies between the dark energy equation of state (whether it is constant or variable) and the matter content of the universe and provide a powerful and alternative route to measure the contribution to the global dynamics and the equation of state of dark energy. A preliminary joint analysis of X-ray selected AGN (based on the largest to-date XMM survey; the 2XMM) and the currently largest SNIa sample (Hicken et al.), using as priors a flat universe and the WMAP5 normalization of the power-spectrum, provides: Omega_m=0.27+-0.02 and w=-0.96+-0.07. Equivalent and consistent results are provided by the joint analysis of X-ray selected AGN clustering and the latest Baryonic Acoustic Oscillation measures, providing: Omega_m=0.27+-0.02 and w=-0.97+-0.04., Comment: Different versions of this paper appear in the "Dark Universe" conference (Paris, July 2009) and in the "1st Mediterranean Conference in Classical & Quantum Gravity" (invited)

Abstract

Introduction: Hepatic artery aneurysm is rare. The most common etiologies are atherosclerosis and trauma. Management is difficult and challenging. An endovascular approach is preferred to open surgery. Case report: 66-year-old patient with polyarteritis nodosa who was incidentally diagnosed with a common hepatic artery (CHA) aneurysm. Initially, conservative management was performed, however, during follow-up significant growth was evidenced. Endovascular treatment was decided over surgery. Selective embolization of the entire aneurysmal segment of CHA was performed, maintaining perfusion of the right hepatic lobe. Discussion: Percutaneous embolization with metal coils is the treatment of choice for this entity. Although it is the one with the lowest morbidity and mortality, it is not without risks. Abstract

El financiamiento interno empresarial en un entorno inflacionario ha sido un punto de encuentro mundial de varias décadas, especialmente en América Latina. Particularmente en Venezuela, la inflación data de los años 70, cuando inicialmente se presentó una inflación por empuje de demanda, producto de la política fiscal expansiva permitida por la bonanza petrolera; posterior a ello, se presentó una política monetaria expansiva a través de la emisión de dinero inorgánico, lo cual ha sido común denominador en los últimos años. En todo caso, la inflación ha causado problemas de financiamiento interno y por ende en la estructura de capital para las empresas venezolanas. Desde esta perspectiva, la presente investigación tiene como objetivo mostrar las opciones de financiamiento interno para las empresas venezolanas, usando como referencia al sector autopartes ubicado en el municipio Tinaquillo del estado Cojedes al período 2018. Para ello, se efectuó un estudio descriptivo, documental y campo, sustentado en teorías financieras y macroeconómicas, con la recolección de datos a través de un cuestionario a tres (3) empresas del sector autoparte de Tinaquillo, estado Cojedes. Se concluye, que el sector autoparte ha enfrentado el entorno inflacionario, financiándose con recursos internos, a través de la generación de ganancias líquidas que se suman a ganancias retenidas y/o flujos de cajas sincronizados con los requerimientos operativos. En este sentido, se recomienda alinear a los principales sectores locales, academia y sociedad en general, para impulsar y/o acompañar la resiliencia del sector empresarial.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the macroscopic anatomy of the neopallium in alpaca foetuses. Fifteen foetuses with gestational ages ranging from days 101 to 323 were used. The brains were infiltrated with 10% formaldehyde by injections at the frontoparietal and nasofrontal junction of the skull. Then, 30 days later the brains were dissected and the neopallium was exposed. Photographs in situ and ex situ of the dorsal, lateral, rostral, caudal, and ventral view were taken. By using the pictures, the brain sulcus and gyri were identified. In chronological order, the sulcus that were described were: Lateral Fissure, Suprasylvian Sulcus, Endosagittal Sulcus, Coronal Sulcus, Splenial Sulcus, Genual Sulcus, Calcarine Sulcus, Presylvian Sulcus, Central Sulcus, Sagittal Sulcus, Ectosagittal Sulcus, Diagonal Sulcus and Ectosilvian Sulcus. The gyrus were: Cingulate Gyrus, Rostral Silvian Gyrus, Caudal Silvian Gyrus, Sagittal Gyrus, Postcentral Gyrus, Precentral Gyrus, Middle Ectosylvian Gyrus, Caudal Ectosylvian Gyrus and Middle Ectosagittal Gyrus. An asymmetry between hemispheres of the same individual was evidenced, both due to the length and shape of some sulcus and gyrus, as well as their location., El objetivo del presente estudio fue describir la anatomía macroscópica del neopalio en fetos de alpaca. Se utilizaron 15 fetos con edades gestacionales comprendidas entre los días 101 a 323. Se infiltró formaldehído al 10% a los cerebros mediante inyecciones en la unión frontoparietal y nasofrontal del cráneo. Se esperaron 30 días para posteriormente diseccionarlos y hacer la exposición del neopalio, tomándose fotografías in situ y ex situ de la vista dorsal, lateral, rostral, caudal y ventral. Con estas fotografías se identificaron los surcos y giros cerebrales. En orden cronológico, los surcos que se describieron fueron: Fisura Lateral, Surco Suprasilviano, Surco Endosagital, Surco Coronal, Surco Esplenial, Surco Genual, Surco Calcarino, Surco Presilviano, Surco Central, Surco Sagital, Surco Ectosagital, Surco Diagonal y Surco Ectosilviano. Asimismo, los giros: Giro Cingulado, Giro Silviano Rostral, Giro Silviano Caudal, Giro Sagital, Giro Poscentral, Giro Precentral, Giro Ectosilviano Medio, Giro Ectosilviano Caudal y Giro Ectosagital Medio. Se evidenció una asimetría entre hemisferios del mismo individuo, tanto por el largo y forma de algunos surcos y giros, como por su ubicación.
