The rising trend of electromagnetic pollution has motivated us to develop a novel electromagnetic interference shielding (EMI) material by adopting a facile, industry viable, and cost-effective solution mixing strategy. Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) as conductive fillers is employed in a lightweight, highly flexible ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA) polymer to fabricate the superior electrically conductive and efficient EMI shielding material at a relatively lower percolation threshold limit compared to other carbonaceous fillers has been justified by their morphological characterization. The electrical conductive network formation is attained at just 1.96 wt% of SWCNT loading resulting in more than 20 dB of EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) dominated by absorption mechanism to fulfill the industrial requirement along with excellent mechanical properties improvement, and the highest SE is 45 dB at 15 wt% of reinforcement facilitating their potential use in both industry and academia. This study uses an analytical method to examine the scattering of a Love wave from an interfacial crack in a thin lossy media (viscoelastic material) that serves as a waveguide layer attached to an unbounded loss-less media (piezoelectric material). The viscoelastic material is modeled using the Kelvin–Voigt equation. Phase velocity and attenuation have been calculated by equating the real and imaginary parts of the dispersion relation to zero, respectively, due to the complex wave number of viscoelastic material. Using the integral transform approach and the dislocation density function, the scattering field close to the crack tip is determined, resulting in a Cauchy singular integral equation of the first type. It has been transformed into a system of linear algebraic equations using Gauss-Chebyshev numerical integration. It has been investigated how frequency, waveguide layer thickness, and viscoelastic material loss factor affect phase velocity and Love wave attenuation. The mode-III dynamic stress intensity factor at the left and right crack-tip is investigated for various thicknesses of the waveguide layer and loss factor of viscoelastic material. The outcomes were verified using numerical data from the COMSOL Multiphysics 5.6 FEA software. The findings are fundamental and could be used in the design of particular sensors. Highly sensitive and easy to use sensors are required to measure in vitro and in vivo sulfite ion concentrations for better human health. To date various fluorescence-based probes have been utilized for sulfite detection, but most of them suffer from cumbersome synthetic protocols and lengthy detection times, which somewhat limit their widespread applications. Herein, we have developed a highly selective and fast responsive fluorescent probe, Kumujian-C (Kum-C) for the detection of sulfite ions in both in vitro and in vivo conditions. Kum-C, a β-carboline-based small molecule fluorescent probe, was synthesised and its photophysical properties in different conditions were evaluated. The aqueous solution of the probe was weakly fluorescent, but upon selective binding with sulfite ions, the probe instantly displayed a phenomenal enhancement in its fluorescence intensity. This turn-on response was found to be linear over the range of 0 to 125 μM sulfite concentration, enabling the probe to detect sulfite down to 0.35 μM in buffer. Moreover, high selectivity, and fast response toward sulfite ions over other anions and bio-analytes, established the developed probe as an efficient sulfite sensor. Somatic Y chromosome loss in hematopoietic cells is associated with higher mortality in men. However, the status of the Y chromosome in cancer tissue is not fully known due to technical limitations, such as difficulties in labelling and sequencing DNA from the Y chromosome. We have developed a system to quantify Y chromosome gain or loss in patient-derived prostate cancer organoids. Using our system, we observed Y chromosome loss in 4 of the 13 (31%) patient-derived metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) organoids; interestingly, loss of Yq (long arm of the Y chromosome) was seen in 38% of patient-derived organoids. Additionally, potential associations were observed between mCRPC and Y chromosome nullisomy. The prevalence of Y chromosome loss was similar in primary and metastatic tissue, suggesting that Y chromosome loss is an early event in prostate cancer evolution and may not a result of drug resistance or organoid derivation. This study reports quantification of Y chromosome loss and gain in primary and metastatic prostate cancer tissue and lays the groundwork for further studies investigating the clinical relevance of Y chromosome loss or gain in mCRPC.
