Aim: The aim and objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of mineral trioxide aggregate, bioactive glass sealer, and epoxy-resin–based sealer. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 22 Mueller Hinton agar (MH agar) plates were employed and equally divided into two groups. Three holes were made by removal of agar at equidistant points and filled with root canal sealers. The strains of the bacteria used in this study were S. aureus (ATCC 6538) and C. albicans (ATCC 10231) and were divided into two groups and root canal sealers were divided into three subgroups: mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) fillapex Sealer, Nishika Bioactive Glass sealer, and Syntex Epoxy Resin base sealer. For Staphylococcus aureus, peptone water was placed in a 2 mL test tube and bacteria were extracted from blood agar plates using a nichrome wire loop and poured into the peptone water–containing test tube and incubated for 2 hours and for C. albicans, fungi were grown at 37°C for 24 hours in MH Broth and seeded into MH agar to produce turbidity of 0.5 on the McFarland scale, which corresponds to a concentration of 108 CFU/mL. This MH broth was used as a second layer. The seeded agar was then added over the plates immediately after the insertion of sealer cement. After incubation, the diameters of zones of inhibition around the plates were measured. Results: The results of this study showed that the highest inhibition was recorded in Syntex sealer against Staphylococcus aureus followed by MTA fillapex sealer and Nishika sealer, whereas MTA fillapex showed the highest inhibition against C. albicans followed by Syntex sealer and Nishika sealer. Conclusion: Syntex sealer exhibits better antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and MTA fillapex exhibit better antibacterial efficacy against C. albicans.

Paucity of data on NDDs slows down policy and programmatic action in most developing countries despite perceived high burden. Methods and findings We assessed 3,964 children (with almost equal number of boys and girls distributed in 2- Conclusions The study identifies NDDs in children aged 2-9 years as a significant public health burden for India. HI was higher than and ASD prevalence comparable to the published global literature. Most risk factors of NDDs were modifiable and amenable to public health interventions.

The Owensboro Bridge in Owensboro, KY, showcases the ingenious engineering design made by Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas Inc. The bridge, which will be called William Natcher Bridge at its completion, is one of the steel bridges with the longest cable-stayed spans in the US. Its 1,200 feet cable-stayed span covers the Ohio River between Owensboro, KY, and Rockport, IND. The bridge has a vertical clearance of 78 feet above the normal pool of elevation at 360.4 feet. Aside from a low-cost construction, the design makes for an accessible and easy maintenance of the bridge.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia worldwide. Developing countries will have >3 times the prevalence of the developed countries by the year 2050. Our previous studies with a Pakistani population have suggested that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is strongly associated with impaired cognitive functioning, and genetic pathways showed strong resemblance to known AD patterns. The present case studies investigated two important pathways, i.e., Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) processing and Lipid Metabolism, using gene expression profiling arrays to compare and contrast AD and T2DM patients from Pakistan. Method: We performed high‐throughput qRT‐PCR with preconfigured a TaqMan Low Density Profiling Array specific to Human Alzheimer's Disease (ABI, CAT # 441887) to measure the altered gene expressions and their corresponding pathways (Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, IPA®). Both the T2DM (n = 2; M/F each) and AD (n = 2, M/F each) patients (cases) were recruited from outpatient departments of a regional hospital, and were compared with their respective matched, healthy controls. Result: Overall, we observed a differential gene expression profile in AD and T2DM participants compared to controls. CYP46A1, MAPT, CAPNS1, GAL, AGER, CAPN1, PSENEN, ST6GAL1, GRIN2B, GRIN2C, GRIN2A, and GAP43 was downregulated in both T2DM and AD patients. ACHE, CHRM3, GRIN2C and GAP43 significantly (p value <0.05) downregulated in all T2DM patients. CDC2, UCHL1, CTSG, CASP3, IDE, NAE1, CDK5R1, IL6, APBB2, GLS are the top 10 common genes that were upregulated in both AD and T2DM groups. The IPA analysis revealed important Canonical Pathways, that included, viz., Amyloid Processing, Neuroinflammation Signaling, ErB4 Signaling, nNOs Signaling. Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer. The top disease and biofunctions included Metabolic Disease, Neurological disease, Organismal Injury and Abnormalities, Psychological Disorders, Cardiovascular Disease, with the top upstream regulators PHLPP2, IL33, APP, CRP, TAC1. Conclusion: The differential gene expression patterns and associated disease pathways from this pilot study suggest that specific genes and pathways were common to both diseases and may suggest common underlying processes and causes. Information from such biochemical and genetic studies will be crucial to the development of therapeutic targets to treat AD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
