17. Pulmonary invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Abstract

Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) is a relatively rare subtype of lung adenocarcinoma, composed of goblet and/or columnar tumour cells containing abundant intracytoplasmic mucin vacuoles. While a majority of IMAs are driven by KRAS mutations, recent studies have identified distinct genomic alterations, such as NRG1 and ERBB2 fusions. IMAs also more frequently present as a pneumonic‐like pattern with multifocal and multilobar involvement, and comparative genomic profiling predominantly shows a clonal relationship, suggesting intrapulmonary metastases rather than synchronous primary tumours. Accordingly, these unique features require different therapeutic approaches when compared to nonmucinous adenocarcinomas in general. In this article, we review recent updates on the histopathological, clinical, and molecular features of IMAs, and also highlight some unresolved issues for future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

18. Regression Analysis to Investigate Contributions of Process Parameters on Transesterification of Waste Soybean Oil †.

Abstract

Four process parameters were investigated via regression analysis for their effects on biodiesel production in the transesterification of biodiesel from waste soybean oil (WSO). The maximum biodiesel conversion rate reached 98.56% at a methanol/oil ratio of 6:1, a reaction time of 60 min, a reaction temperature of 60 °C, and a catalyst loading of 0.5 wt.%. The functional group was dominated by an ester with the wavenumber 1743.78, the group attribution C=O, a strong absorption intensity, and a stretching vibration. The major methyl ester compounds of the biodiesel yielded from the waste soybean oil were dominated by linoleic acid (37.53%), oleic acid (24.69%), and palmitic acid (12.95%). The regression analysis result showed that the parameters influenced the biodiesel yield, and that the reaction temperature contributed to the reaction more than the others. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

An improved approach to the classical Rassweiler and Withrow’s mass fraction burned model and an improved data acquisition/processing procedure are employed with the intention of increasing precision while retaining simplicity. A new method to predict the trends of MFB and emissions, based on the online analysis of cylinder pressure is introduced. A diagnostic method to study the heat release rate in a natural gas fuelled engine has been developed for future use. Natural gas fuelled vehicles are environmentally friendly and it is possible to use a high compression ratio engine with all its associated benefits for efficiency. However, one of the problems associated with the use of natural gas is NOx emission. EGR can be used to reduce NOx, but it leads to unstable combustion. The stability problem can be resolved by the addition of hydrogen, which can be provided by fuel reforming. Based on the beneficial effects of exhaust gas fuel reforming, the effects of EGR, H2 and H2/CO as additives to natural gas are analysed and discussed in terms of combustion indicators derived by the new diagnostic method, in particular in terms of combustion duration (CA for 5/50/95% MFB), IMEP and cycle by cycle variation (COV of IMEP, COV of peak pressure).

Abstract

It remains unclear whether surgical resection of brain metastases prolongs overall survival in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A retrospective study was designed to evaluate the benefits of surgical resection for 296 patients with NSCLC and brain metastases. Patients were grouped into those who underwent craniotomy (brain surgery group) and those who did not (non-surgery group). Characteristics, survival, and EGFR mutation status were compared between the two groups. We found that the clinical characteristics were similar between the two groups.
