1. Room-temperature giant magnetotranstance effect in single-phase multiferroics

Abstract

Single-phase multiferroic materials are usually considered useless because of the weak magnetoelectric effects, low operating temperature, and small electric polarization induced by magnetic orders. As a result, current studies on applications of the magnetoelectric effects are mainly focusing on multiferroic heterostructures and composites. Here we report a room-temperature giant effect in response to external magnetic fields in single-phase multiferroics. A low magnetic field of 1000 Oe applied on the spin-driven multiferroic hexaferrites BaSrCo2Fe11AlO22 and Ba0.9Sr1.1Co2Fe11AlO22 is able to cause a huge change in the linear magnetoelectric coefficient by several orders, leading to a giant magnetotranstance (GMT) effect at room temperature. The GMT effect is comparable to the well-known giant magnetoresistance (GMR) effect in magnetic multilayers, and thus opens up a door toward practical applications for single-phase multiferroics., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

12. Algorithm for Generating Body Medial Axes Based on Minimum Exterior Rectangle

Abstract

In this paper a new algorithm is proposed for extracting medial axes of object. This algorithm is based on minimum exterior rectangle and edge detection. First, edge detection algorithm is used to each image to obtain all the boundary points exactly, and the center of each object is evaluated. Then, the directions of major and minor axes of the object be obtained using the center-point and boundary-points. The four vertexes of the bounding rectangle are computed by pair wise solving the four straight lines. At last, using FMABR's short axes to scan the object boundary points, all the middle point of the line which made by the scan line and boundary points buildup the medial axes of the object's body. The algorithm has both simplicity and accuracy properties.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the anti-aging effects and reveal the underlying mechanism of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi ethanol extract (SBG) in D-galactose-induced rats. Fifty rats were randomly divided into five groups: vehicle control group, D-galactose group, and D-galactose combined with 50, 100, 200 mg x kg(-1) SBG. A rat aging model was induced by injecting subcutaneously D-galactose (100 mg x kg(-1)) for ten weeks. At the tenth week, the locomotor activity (in open-field test) and the learning and memory abilities (in Morris water maze test) were examined respectively. The urine was collected using metabolic cages and analyzed by high-resolution 1H NMR spectroscopy combined with multivariate statistical analyses. The SBG at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg x kg(-1) treatments groups could significantly ameliorate aging process in rats' cognitive performance. The 50, 100, 200 mg x kg(-1) SBG regulated citrate, pyruvate, lactate, trimethylamine (TMA), pantothenate, β-hydroxybutyrate in urine favorably toward the control group. These biochemical changes are related to the disturbance in energy metabolism, glycometabolism and microbiome metabolism, which is helpful to further understanding the D-galactose induced aging rats and the therapeutic mechanism of SBG.
