The widespread use of plastics in beverage packaging has led to the accumulation of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) in beverages, which poses significant environmental and health hazards. This review explores the sources, entry pathways, and risk factors for MPs and NPs in beverages, emphasizing their toxicological profiles and harmful effects on human health and the environment. Methods for detecting MPs and NPs in beverages are discussed, highlighting the need for standardized testing protocols. Furthermore, future solution strategies, challenges, and preventive measures for mitigating MP and NP contamination in beverages are proposed, including advanced filtration systems, the development of alternative packaging materials, and the strengthening of regulatory standards. Collaborative efforts among industry stakeholders, scientific institutions, and policymakers are essential to address this complex issue and ensure the safety and purity of beverages for consumers worldwide.

ABSTRACT Bombyx mori cypovirus (BmCPV), a member of the Reoviridae family, is a well-established research model for double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) viruses with segmented genomes. Despite its small genome size, the coding potential of BmCPV remains largely unexplored. In this study, we identified a novel small open reading frame within the S10 dsRNA genome, encoding a small viral peptide (VSP59) with 59 amino acid residues. Functional characterization revealed that VSP59 acts as a negative regulator of viral replication. VSP59 predominantly localizes to the cytoplasm, where it interacts with prohibitin 2 (PHB2), an inner membrane mitophagy receptor. This interaction targets mitochondria and triggers caspase 3-dependent apoptosis. Transient expression of vsp59 in BmN cells suppressed viral replication, an effect that was reversed by silencing PHB2 expression. Moreover, recombinant BmCPV with a mutated vsp59 exhibited reduced replication. Our findings demonstrate that VSP59 interacts with PHB2 on mitochondria, inducing apoptosis and thereby diminishing viral replication. This study expands our understanding of the genetic information encoded by the BmCPV genome and highlights the role of novel small peptides in host-virus interactions.IMPORTANCEA novel small open reading frame (sORF) from the viral genome was identified and characterized. The sORF could encode a small viral peptide (VSP59) that targeted mitochondria and induced prohibitin 2-related apoptosis, further attenuating Bombyx mori cypovirus replication.

IntroductionAntibiotic use in broilers is being discouraged globally due to the challenges it poses. This study was conducted to assess the effects of supplementing broilers with a Symbiotic-Enzyme complex (SEC) containing prebiotics (mannose oligosaccharides), probiotics (Clostridium butyricum and Bacillus subtilis), and enzymes (glucose oxidase, and α-galactosidase) as an alternative to antibiotics on growth performance, carcass and meat quality traits, mortality, linear body measurements, intestinal morphology and immune organ indexes.MethodA total of 864 mixed-sex 1-day-old arbor acres (AA+) broilers were allocated to 8 experimental groups replicated 9 times with 12 chickens per replicate. These included 6 treatment groups with SEC inclusion levels of 0.025, 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.10%, respectively, and two control groups: a negative control group containing a basal diet only and the positive control group (Antibiotics group) containing a basal diet and antibiotic oxytetracycline added at 0.2%. Growth performance was measured on day 21 and 42, and the mortality, carcass, meat quality traits, linear body measurements, intestinal morphology, and organ size indexes were measured on day 42.ResultsThe results indicated that supplementing broilers with 0.1% SEC resulted in insignificant (P > 0.05) increases in average daily feed intake (ADFI), significant (P < 0.05) increases in the average daily gains (ADG), and significant (P < 0.05) reduction in a feed-to-gain ratio (F/G) in all the phases compared to the control and antibiotics groups. Supplementation of broilers with 0.1% SEC inclusion levels also significantly (P < 0.05) increased the body slope length, chest width, chest depth, keel length, and shank circumference. Furthermore, broilers on diets containing 0.1% SEC inclusion level also had significantly (P < 0.05) higher dressed, semi-evisceration, evisceration, and breast muscle percentages. Including SEC at 0.1% also significantly (P < 0.05) increased villus height and villus-to-crypt ratio (V/C) but reduced crypt depth in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum compared to the control groups. SEC inclusion at 0.1% significantly (P < 0.05) increased the spleen, bursal, and thymus indexes, respectively.ConclusionSupplementation of broilers with 0.1% SEC can be used as an antibiotic alternative because it increases the F/G, improves the carcass and meat quality, increases the body conformation, improves the small intestines' functions, and immune organ size.

The shelf-edge trajectory is comprehensively controlled by tectonics, sediment supply, sea level, and climate fluctuations; its migration and evolution have a strong influence on what happens in the deep-water depositional system during the Quaternary. The shelf-edge trajectory pattern, sediment-budget partitioning into deep-water areas, and reservoir evaluations are focused topics in international geosciences. In this paper, the Qiongdongnan Basin (QDNB) in the northern South China Sea is taken as an example to study how shelf-edge trajectory migration patterns can influence the types of deep-water gravity flow which are triggered there. Through quantitatively delineating the Quaternary shelf-edge trajectory in the QDNB, four types of shelf-edge trajectory are identified, including low angle slow rising type, medium angle rising type, high angle sharp rising type, and retrogradation-slump type. A new sequence stratigraphic framework based on the migration pattern of shelf-edge trajectory is established. There are four (third-order) sequences in the Quaternary, and several systems tracts named lowstand systems tract (LST), transgressive systems tract (TST), and highstand system tract (HST) are identified. This study indicates that the type of deep-water gravity flow can be dominated by the shelf-edge trajectory migration patterns. When the shelf-edge trajectory angle (α) ranged between 0° and 4°, the continental canyons were mostly small-scaled and shallowly incised, with multiple large-scale sandy submarine fan deposits with few MTDs found in the deep-water area. When the angle (α) ranged from 4° < α < 35°, the size and incision depth of the continental slope canyons increased, relating to frequently interbedded sandy submarine fan deposits and MTDs. When angle (α) ranged from 35° < α < 90°, only a few deeply-incised canyons were present in the continental slope; in this condition, large-scaled and long-distance MTDs frequently developed, with fewer submarine fans deposits. When angle (α) ranged from 90° < α < 150°, the valley in the slope area was virtually undeveloped, sediments in the deep-sea plain area consisted mainly of large mass transport deposits, and submarine fan development was minimal. Since the Quaternary, the temperature has been decreasing, the sea level has shown a downward trend, and the East Asian winter monsoon has significantly enhanced, resulting in an overall increase in sediment supply in the study area. However, due to the numerous rivers and rich provenance systems in the west of Hainan Island, a growing continental shelf-edge slope has developed. In the eastern part of Hainan Island, due to fewer rivers, weak provenance sources, strong tectonic activity, and the subsidence center, a type of destructive shelf-edge slope has developed. The above results have certain theoretical significance for the study of shelf-edge systems and the prediction of deep-water gravity flow deposition type.

Abstract Foam cell formation is a hallmark of the early phase of atherosclerosis. Growing evidence has demonstrated that vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) comprise a considerable proportion of foam cells. Liver kinase B1 (LKB1) plays a crucial part in cardiovascular diseases. However, the role of LKB1 in VSMC-derived foam cell formation and atherosclerosis remains unclear. To explore the effects of LKB1 on VSMC-derived foam cell formation and atherosclerosis, we generated smooth muscle-specific LKB1 knockout (LKB1SMKO) mice by crossbreeding LKB1flox/flox mice with SM22α-CreERT2 mice. LKB1 expression decreased in plaque-loaded aortas and oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL)-treated VSMCs. Compared with controls, atherosclerosis development was exacerbated in LKB1SMKO mice via the promotion of VSMC-derived foam cell formation. Conversely, LKB1 overexpression inhibited lipid uptake and foam cell formation in VSMCs. Mechanistically, LKB1 binds to SIRT6 and directly phosphorylates and activates it, thereby reducing lectin-like oxLDL receptor-1 (LOX-1) via SIRT6-dependent histone deacetylation. Finally, adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated LOX-1 deficiency in smooth muscle ameliorated atherosclerosis in LKB1SMKO mice. Our findings suggest that LKB1 may modulate VSMC-derived foam cell formation and atherosclerosis via the phosphorylation and activation of SIRT6.

Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer threatening women’s health globally, and high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection is the main cause of cervical cancer worldwide. Given the recurrent nature of HR-HPV infection, accurate screening is essential for its control. Since the commonly used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique is limited by professional equipment and personnel, convenient and ultrasensitive detection methods for HR-HPV are still highly needed. As new molecular detection methods, nucleic acid amplification-based biosensors have the advantages of high sensitivity, rapid operation, and portability, which are helpful for point-of-care testing in rural and remote areas. This review summarized nucleic acid biosensors for HR-HPV screening based on a variety of nucleic acid amplification strategies involved in improved PCR, loop-mediated isothermal amplification, recombinase polymerase amplification, hybridization chain reaction, catalyzed hairpin assembly, and CRISPR/Cas systems. In combination with microfluidic technology, lateral flow assays, electrochemical analysis and other sensing technologies, HR-HPV nucleic acid biosensors have the advantages of high throughput, short response time, high sensitivity and easy operation in the field. Although there are still shortcomings, such as high cost and poor reproducibility, this approach will be suitable for on-site screening of HR-HPV infection or cervical cancer and for auxiliary clinical diagnosis in complex environments and poor areas in the future.

ACE2 has been confirmed to be a functional receptor for SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, but research on animal coronaviruses, especially PEDV, are still unknown. The present study investigated whether ACE2 plays a role in receptor recognition and subsequent infection during PEDV invasion of host cells. IPEC-J2 cells stably expressing porcine ACE2 did not increase the production of PEDV-N but inhibited its expression. Porcine ACE2 knockout cells was generated by CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in IPEC-J2 cells. The expression of PEDV-N did not decrease but slightly increased. The Co-IP results showed that there was no significant association between ACE2 and PEDV-S. There were no obvious interaction between PEDV-S, PEDV-E, PEDV-M and porcine ACE2 promoters, but PEDV-N could inhibit the activity of ACE2 promoters. PEDV-N degraded STAT1 and prevented its phosphorylation, thereby inhibiting the expression of interferon-stimulated genes. Repeated infection of PEDV further confirmed the above results. PEDV activated ACE-Ang II-AT1R axis, while ACE2-Ang (1–7)-MasR axis activity was decreased and inflammatory response was intensified. However, excess ACE2 can reverse this reaction. These results reveal that ACE2 does not facilitate PEDV entry into cells, but relieves PEDV-induced inflammation by promoting STAT1 phosphorylation.

Introduction: Urbanization has affected the quality of the living environments. It is important to improve residents’ living environments and promote their happiness.Methods: We use a national and representative dataset targeting the labor force in China, collecting basic information about the work environments, the social environments, and the urban environments. This work employed a linear regression model to investigate the influencing factors of residents’ SWB.Results: The three major findings are as follows: 1) At the national level, residents’ SWB exhibits a notable spatial variability, being higher in the northern regions and lower in the southern areas. 2) The dimensions of the urban environments (housing prices, POI density, NPP, land development intensity and the number of tertiary hospitals), the work environments (work pressure and job satisfaction), and the social environments (community trust, social justice and sense of security), along with sociodemographic characteristics, significantly influence SWB. 3) In China, the impacts on SWB exhibit pronounced regional heterogeneity. The relationship between environmental pollution and SWB is characterized by an inverted U-shaped pattern. Intriguingly, while housing prices negatively affect SWB in the eastern and central regions, the enforcement of housing purchase limits has been observed to enhance residents’ SWB in the western region.Discussion: First, this work show the overall spatial level of SWB in China geographically. And second, this research found the SWB heterogeneity on a regional level (eastern, central, and western regions). Furthermore, this methodological framework provides a novel perspective among the urban, work and social environments on SWB. This work also contributes to inform policy to improve residents’ SWB in China.

Abstract Angiogenesis is a critical pathophysiological process involved in organ growth and various diseases. Transcription factors Sp1/Sp3 are necessary for fetal development and tumor growth. Sp1/Sp3 proteins were downregulated in the capillaries of the gastrocnemius in patients with critical limb ischemia samples. Endothelial-specific Sp1/Sp3 knockout reduces angiogenesis in retinal, pathological, and tumor models and induced activation of the Notch1 pathway. Further, the inactivation of VEGFR2 signaling by Notch1 contributes to the delayed angiogenesis phenotype. Mechanistically, endothelial Sp1 binds to the promoter of Notch1 and inhibits its transcription, which is enhanced by Sp3. The proangiogenic effect of ACEI is abolished in Sp1/Sp3-deletion male mice. We identify USP7 as an ACEI-activated deubiquitinating enzyme that translocated into the nucleus binding to Sp1/Sp3, which are deacetylated by HDAC1. Our findings demonstrate a central role for endothelial USP7-Sp1/Sp3-Notch1 signaling in pathophysiological angiogenesis in response to ACEI treatment.

Abstract Background Ovarian follicle development plays an important role in determination of poultry egg production. The follicles at the various developmental stages possess their own distinct molecular genetic characteristics and have different biological roles in chicken ovary development and function. In the each stage, several genes of follicle-specific expression and biological pathways are involved in the vary-sized follicular development and physiological events. Identification of the pivotal genes and signaling pathways that control the follicular development is helpful for understanding their exact regulatory functions and molecular mechanisms underlying egg-laying traits of laying hens. Results The comparative mRNA transcriptomic analysis of ovarian follicles at three key developmental stages including slow growing white follicles (GWF), small yellow follicles (SYF) of recruitment into the hierarchy, and differentiated large yellow follicles (LYF), was accomplished in the layers with lower and higher egg production. Totally, 137, 447, and 229 of up-regulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and 99, 97, and 157 of down-regulated DEGs in the GWF, SYF and LYF follicles, including VIPR1, VIPR2, ADRB2, and HSD17B1 were identified, respectively. Moreover, NDUFAB1 and GABRA1 genes, two most promising candidates potentially associated with egg-laying performance were screened out from the 13 co-expressed DEGs in the GWF, SYF and LYF samples. We further investigated the biological effects of NDUFAB1 and GABRA1 on ovarian follicular development and found that NDUFAB1 promotes follicle development by stimulating granulosa cell (GC) proliferation and decreasing cell apoptosis, increases the expression of CCND1 and BCL-2 but attenuates the expression of caspase-3, and facilitates steroidogenesis by enhancing the expression of STAR and CYP11A1. In contrast, GABRA1 inhibits GC proliferation and stimulates cell apoptosis, decreases the expression of CCND1, BCL-2, STAR, and CYP11A1 but elevates the expression of caspase-3. Furthermore, the three crucial signaling pathways such as PPAR signaling pathway, cAMP signaling pathway and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction were significantly enriched, which may play essential roles in ovarian follicle growth, differentiation, follicle selection, and maturation. Conclusions The current study provided new molecular data for insight into the regulatory mechanism underlying ovarian follicle development associated with egg production in chicken.

Transportation infrastructure is essential to regional innovation systems, and the high-speed railway (HSR) is reshaping China’s regional innovation pattern. Previous research lacks an analysis of the impact of opening an HSR on urban traditional and green innovation. This paper uses urban panel data from 285 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2019 to study the impact and mechanism of opening an HSR on urban innovation from a comparative perspective. The results of a multi-period difference-in-difference (DID) model show that opening an HSR can promote both traditional and green urban innovation, especially impacting urban green innovation. A further analysis of the mechanism of action found that high-quality talent and communication infrastructures are two crucial mechanisms of transmission for the opening of an HSR to affect urban innovation. In addition, heterogeneity analysis showed that opening an HSR promotes traditional urban and green innovation for cities in general. However, for central cities, the opening of an HSR has no significant impact on green innovation and has little effect on promoting traditional innovation. The policy inspiration of this paper is that, in the face of an innovation gap and the inequality of regional innovation and development, the construction of HSRs should be promoted according to local conditions. Construction and layout resources should be shifted from central cities to general cities to narrow the regional innovation gap. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the roles of the flow of high-quality talent and communication infrastructure in promoting urban innovation and sustainable urban development.

Shield tunnels inevitably endure various forms of damage as their service times increase. Steel corrugated plates have been used extensively under multiple conditions and have proven effective in strengthening segmental joints, according to full-scale tests. A numerical model is proposed to probe the feasibility of using a new stainless-steel corrugated plate (SSCP) to reinforce shield-tunnel segments. A new method, called virtual-tracking-element technology, is employed to achieve the simulation of a realistic stress state of the segmental joint. Moreover, a segmental-joint-component analysis and a parametric study were conducted based on the numerical model. The results demonstrate that: (1) the virtual-tracking-element technology is a valid and efficient approach to the simulation of the secondary-stress state of segmental joints; (2) SSCP reinforcement is not fully utilized when the grade of segmental concrete is C50, and it has a wide safety margin for potential overload; (3) SSCP reinforcement performs well regardless of the burial depth, and reinforcement in advance is recommended.

In order to improve the ability of clean energy consumption and the reliability of power supply, distribution network operation is attracting more and more attention. In view of the non-convergence of the traditional forward and backward substitution method, an improved power flow algorithm for distribution network with ring network was proposed by combining the loop analysis method with the forward and backward generation power flow algorithm. The branch current was decomposed to compensate the split-point current, and the non-convergence phenomenon was changed. The validity and accuracy of the algorithm were verified by data simulation with Matlab.

Objective The objective of this study was to investigate effects of supplementation of culture media from solid-state fermented Isaria cicadae (I. cicadae) on performance, serum biochemical parameters, serum immune indexes, antioxidant capacity and meat quality of broiler chickens. Methods A total of 648 Arbor Acres male broiler chickens(1 d; average body weight, 42.93± 0.47 g) were randomly assigned to 6 treatments, each with six replicates and 18 broiler chickens per replicate. Broiler chickens were fed phase I (d 1 to 21) and phase II (d 22 to 42) diets. The phase I diets were corn and soybean-meal based diets supplemented with 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, or 10% culture media from solid-state fermented I. cicadae respectively. In this study, a new composite electrode of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles dispersed on polypyrrole-reduced graphene oxide (PPy-rGO) loaded on foam-nickel was achieved by galvanostatic method. Characterization of structures, morphology and crystallinity of the synthesized materials were investigated by scanning electron microscopes (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results of XPS and XRD demonstrated Pd showed primarily as Pd0. From SEM and TEM results, we had seen that Pd nanoparticles were dispersible well on the composite electrode. Raman spectroscopy was used to show the state of graphene oxide and further demonstrated that PPy and rGO had existed of on the foam Ni matrix. The data of EIS also suggested the charge transfer of the new composite electrode decreased compared to Pd/PPy/foam-Ni and PPy/foam-Ni composite electrodes. The effect of the electropolymerization potential on Pd/PPy-rGO/foam-Ni electrode for removing triclosan (TCS) was examined. It was found that the removal efficiency of TCS on the composite electrode could reach 100% at electropolymerization potential of 0.7 V and reaction time of 100 min. Stereo digital image correlation (stereo-DIC) requires the stereo-camera system to remain fixed during the measurement process. This requirement brings a lot of inconvenience to the practical application of stereo-DIC. In many application scenarios such as dynamic measurement, the external parameters of the camera are almost inevitably disturbed, which will bring great errors to the DIC measurement results. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a three-point marking method to determine the world coordinate system and a camera pose self-estimation method based on speckle patterns. The three-point marking method can use three undeformed feature points in the field of view (FOV) to determine the world coordinate system. The proposed camera pose self-estimation method can calculate the pose parameters of the binocular camera at the shooting time of each frame of image. This method does not require plane assumptions and has good applicability. Simulations and experiments were carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in overcoming external parameter disturbances.

ABSTRACT: The large tumor suppressor homolog 2 (LATS2), one of the central regulators of the Hippo/MST signaling pathway, plays an inhibitory role in ovarian function and different organ development and growth in mammals. However, the exact roles and molecular regulatory mechanisms of LATS2 in chicken granulosa cell (GC) proliferation, differentiation, and steroidogenesis required for ovarian follicle growth, development, and follicular selection remain poorly understood. This study demonstrated that the LATS2 protein was predominantly localized in the oocytes and undifferentiated GCs of various-sized prehierarchical follicles of the hen ovary. Expression levels of LATS2 mRNA were significantly higher in the smaller follicles (from 1 mm to 5.9 mm in diameter) and the GCs than in the larger follicles (6–6.9 mm in diameter up to F1). Moreover, we found that high levels of LATS2 suppressed the GC proliferation and the mRNA and protein expression of the genes serving as the biomarkers of follicle selection, GC differentiation, and steroidogenesis in the GCs, including FSHR, STAR, CYP11A1, ESR1, and ESR2. Interestingly, the LATS2 significantly downregulated SAV1 and YAP1 transcripts but upregulated the expression of STK3, STK4, TEAD1, and TEAD3 mRNA. Our study provided evidences that STK3/4-LATS2-YAP1 not only acts as a suppressor of cell proliferation and follicle selection but also LATS2 may serve as an enhancer in cell proliferation and follicle selection through the YAP1-LATS2 and the LATS2-STK3/4 feedback loops by promoting the expression of TEAD1/3 but inhibiting the expression of SAV1 transcripts in the prehierarchical follicle development of hen ovary. Taken together, the present study initially revealed the pivotal role and molecular mechanism of LATS2 in the regulation of hen prehierarchical follicle development by controlling GC proliferation, differentiation, steroidogenesis, and follicle selection via the Hippo/MST signaling pathway.

Lignin exhibited numerous advantages such as plentiful functional groups, good biocompatibility, low toxicity, and high carbon content, which can be transformed into composites and carbon materials. Lignin-based materials are usually environmentally friendly and low cost, and are widely used in energy storage, environment, electronic devices, and other fields. In this review article, the pretreatment separation methods like hydrothermal process are illustrated briefly, and the properties and categories of technical lignin are introduced. Then, the latest progress of lignin-based composites and lignin-derived carbon materials is summarized. Finally, the current challenges and future developments were suggested based on our knowledge. It is expected that this review paper favored the applications of composites and lignin-derived carbon materials in the future.

Objective In this study, two glycosidases (XMosidases), β-xylosidase and β-mannosidase, were investigated on their in vitro hydrolysis activities of feed and on the improvement of growth performance in vivo in weanling pigs. Methods Enzyme activities of XMosidases in vitro were evaluated in test tubes and simulation of gastric and small intestinal digestion, respectively, in the presence of NSPase. In vivo study was performed in 108 weaned piglets in a 28-d treatment. Pigs were allotted to one of three dietary treatments with six replicate pens in each treatment. The three treatment groups were as follows: i) Control (basal diet); ii) CE (basal diets+CE); iii) CE-Xmosidases (basal diets+ CE+β-xylosidase at 800 U/kg and β-mannosidase at 40 U/kg). CE was complex enzymes (amylase, protease, xylanase, and mannanase). Results In vitro XMosidases displayed significant activities on hydrolysis of corn and soybean meal in the presence of non-starch polysaccharide degrading enzymes (xylanase and β-mannanase). Abstract As the rapid development of portable and wearable devices, different electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with high efficiency have been desired to eliminate the resulting radiation pollution. However, limited EMI shielding materials are successfully used in practical applications, due to the heavy thickness and absence of sufficient strength or flexibility. Herein, an ultrathin and flexible carbon nanotubes/MXene/cellulose nanofibrils composite paper with gradient and sandwich structure is constructed for EMI shielding application via a facile alternating vacuum-assisted filtration process. The composite paper exhibits outstanding mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 97.9 ± 5.0 MPa and a fracture strain of 4.6 ± 0.2%. Particularly, the paper shows a high electrical conductivity of 2506.6 S m−1 and EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 38.4 dB due to the sandwich structure in improving EMI SE, and the gradient structure on regulating the contributions from reflection and absorption. This strategy is of great significance in fabricating ultrathin and flexible composite paper for highly efficient EMI shielding performance and in broadening the practical applications of MXene-based composite materials.

Abstract Background Knockdown of Akt1 promotes Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition in breast cancer cells. However, the mechanisms are not completely understood. Methods Western blotting, immunofluorescence, luciferase assay, real time PCR, ELISA and Matrigel invasion assay were used to investigate how Akt1 inhibition promotes breast cancer cell invasion in vitro. Mouse model of lung metastasis was used to measure in vivo efficacy of Akt inhibitor MK2206 and its combination with Gefitinib. Results Knockdown of Akt1 stimulated β-catenin nuclear accumulation, resulting in breast cancer cell invasion. β-catenin nuclear accumulation induced by Akt1 inhibition depended on the prolonged activation of EGFR signaling pathway in breast cancer cells. Mechanistic experiments documented that knockdown of Akt1 inactivates PIKfyve via dephosphorylating of PIKfyve at Ser318 site, resulting in a decreased degradation of EGFR signaling pathway. Inhibition of Akt1 using MK2206 could induce an increase in the expression of EGFR and β-catenin in breast cancer cells. In addition, MK2206 at a low dosage enhance breast cancer metastasis in a mouse model of lung metastasis, while an inhibitor of EGFR tyrosine kinase Gefitinib could potentially suppress breast cancer metastasis induced by Akt1 inhibition. Conclusion EGFR-mediated β-catenin nuclear accumulation is critical for Akt1 inhibition-induced breast cancer metastasis.

With the development of electronic information technology, electromagnetic shielding pollution has become a thorny environmental problem. Two-dimensional transition metal carbides/nitrides (MXenes) are regarded as the next-generation material for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding due to their excellent electrical conductivity and large specific surface area. Flexible membrane-like MXene-based materials in EMI shielding have received tremendous attention, but very few of them can meet the actual needs of durability, stability, and breathability in daily life. In this article, we chose air-laid paper as a flexible substrate for preparing MXene-decorated composite paper by a simple “dipping and drying” method. This composite paper exhibits a high electrical conductivity of 173.0 S m−1, a superior EMI shielding efficiency (more than 90% of the electromagnetic waves in X-band), good mechanical flexibility (more than 9.8 × 104 times), and breathability. Moreover, the composite paper shows excellent durability after folding or soaking in artificial sweat. Therefore, the as-prepared MXene-decorated composite paper has a promising application in EMI-shielding clothing fields.

Digital image correlation (DIC) is a kind of displacement and strain measurement technique. It can realize non-contact and full-field measurement and is widely used in the testing and research of mechanical properties of materials at high temperatures. However, many factors affect measurement accuracy. As the high temperature environment is complex, the impact of heat waves on DIC is the most significant factor. In order to correct the disturbance in DIC measurement caused by heat waves, this paper proposes a method based on the background-oriented schlieren (BOS) technique. The spot pattern on the surface of a specimen in digital image correlation can be used as the background in the background-oriented schlieren technique. The BOS technique can measure the distortion information of the images caused by heat flow field. The specimen images taken through the heat waves can be corrected using the distortion information. Besides, the characteristics of distortions due to heat waves are also studied in this paper. The experiment results verify that the proposed method can effectively eliminate heat wave disturbances in DIC measurements.

Early damage, such as microcrack, occupies most of the fatigue life of materials, and timely detection of early damage and positioning has great engineering and economic value. In this paper, a matrix scanning and positioning imaging method based on a probabilistic algorithm is proposed. Cooperating with the single-mode (S0) lamb wave, the microcrack in the thin plate material can be efficiently positioned. Taking the S0 mode lamb wave as the fundamental wave can effectively reduce the influence of the dispersion effect on the signal analysis. Meanwhile, in order to reduce the noise interference, the signal is reconstructed by empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to achieve the filtering effect. Then, the ABAQUS finite element simulation software is used to compare the positioning results under different locations of microcrack and different arrangements of probe. Finally, the feasibility of the localization algorithm is verified by the RAM-5000 SNAP nonlinear ultrasound system. The experimental results are consistent with the simulation theory, and the microcrack is effectively positioned. This facilitates our timely remedial action or further assessment of the remaining value of the material.

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a pivotal step for many sustainable energy technologies, and exploring inexpensive and highly efficient electrocatalysts is one of the most crucial but challenging issues to overcome the sluggish kinetics and high overpotentials during OER. Among the numerous electrocatalysts, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising due to their high specific surface area, tunable porosity, and diversity of metal centers and functional groups. It is believed that combining MOFs with conductive nanostructures could significantly improve their catalytic activities. In this study, an MXene supported CoNi-ZIF-67 hybrid (CoNi-ZIF-67@Ti3C2Tx) was synthesized through the in-situ growth of bimetallic CoNi-ZIF-67 rhombic dodecahedrons on the Ti3C2Tx matrix via a coprecipitation reaction. It is revealed that the inclusion of the MXene matrix not only produces smaller CoNi-ZIF-67 particles, but also increases the average oxidation of Co/Ni elements, endowing the CoNi-ZIF-67@Ti3C2Tx as an excellent OER electrocatalyst. The effective synergy of the electrochemically active CoNi-ZIF-67 phase and highly conductive MXene support prompts the hybrid to process a superior OER catalytic activity with a low onset potential (275 mV vs. a reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) and Tafel slope (65.1 mV∙dec−1), much better than the IrO2 catalysts and the pure CoNi-ZIF-67. This work may pave a new way for developing efficient non-precious metal catalyst materials.
