Abstract

24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference, 21-25 September 2009, Hamburg, Germany; 81-83, Thiophene-Phenylene-Thiophene(TPT) based low bandgap(LBG) conjugated polymers with tunable energy levels have been investigated for solar cell applications. Via incorporating various electron-withdrawing co-monomers, TPT-based donor-acceptor copolymers with a bandgap range from 1.8eV to 1eV have been obtained by Stille coupling reactions. The absorption spectral, electrochemical, field effect hole mobility and photovoltaic properties of LGB TPT derivatives are investigated and compared with those of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT). The absorption coefficients of thin films are in the range of 0.77 x 105 cm−1 to 1.4 x 105 cm−1. Both materials show sufficient hole mobility (up to 8.1x10−3 cm2 V−1 s−1 for PTPTTQT) allowing efficient charge extraction and a good fill-factor for organic photovoltaic application. Electrochemical studies indicate desirable HOMO/LUMO levels, and a good correlation between HOMO energy levels and open circuit voltage (Voc) was observed while blending them with fullerene derivatives as electron acceptors. Power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) up to 4.3% were achieved under simulated solar light AM 1.5 G (100 mW/cm2). The results indicate that TPT derivatives with suitable electronwithdrawing groups could be promising photovoltaic materials.

Abstract

The pore sizes affected by different drilling parameters during high power density laser and electron beam welding processes are theoretically determined in this study. The drilling parameters include incident energy absorbed by the mixture in the keyhole, radius, and Mach number at the base, drilling speed, and location of the shock wave or surrounding pressure. The factors affecting the pore sizes are still lacking, even though porosity often occurs and limits the widespread industrial application of keyhole mode welding. In order to determine the pore shape, this study introduces the equations of state at the times when the keyhole is about to be enclosed and when the temperature drops to melting temperature. The gas pressure, temperature, and volume required at the time when the keyhole is about to be closed are determined by calculating the compressible flow of the vapor-liquid dispersion in a vertical keyhole with varying cross sections, paying particular attention to the transition between annular and slug flows. It is found that the final pore size decreases as absorbed energy, radius, and Mach number at the base increase, and decreases axial location of the shock wave or higher surrounding pressure for the keyhole containing a supersonic mixture. For a subsonic mixture in the keyhole, the final pore size decreases as released energy, radius, and Mach number at the base increase. Abstract

Global change refers to climate changes, but also demographic, technological and economic changes. Predicted water scarcity will be critical in the coastal Mediterranean region, especially for provision to mid-sized and large-sized cities. This paper studies the case of the city of Tarragona, located at the Mediterranean area of north-eastern Spain (Catalonia). Several scenarios have been constructed to evaluate different sectorial water allocation policies to mitigate the water scarcity induced by global change. Future water supply and demand predictions have been made for three time spans. The decision support system presented is based on the outranking model, which constructs a partial pre-order based on pairwise preference relations among all the possible actions. The system analyses a hierarchical structure of criteria, including environmental and economic criteria. We compare several adaptation measures including alternative water sources, inter-basin water transfer and sectorial demand management coming from industry, agriculture and domestic sectors.
