Abstract Background Data on long-term cancer survivors treated with apatinib are lacking. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of long-term cancer survivors after apatinib-based therapy, and to know about their satisfaction degree with apatinib and severity of depression and insomnia. Methods Patients with solid tumors who had received apatinib-based therapy for at least 5 years were invited to complete an online questionnaire. Characteristics of patients and treatment, knowledge of apatinib, satisfaction degree, and severity of depression and insomnia assessed by Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and Insomnia Severity Index were collected. Results Between December 8, 2023 and March 1, 2024, a total of 436 patients completed the online questionnaire. Most patients were satisfied with the efficacy (96.6%) and safety (93.1%) of apatinib, were willing to continue apatinib treatment (99.5%), and would recommend apatinib to other patients (93.3%). Continuous apatinib treatment resulted in significant negative impact on daily life, work, or study in only two (0.5%) patients. Almost all patients currently had no or mild depression (97.0%) and insomnia (97.9%) problems. The most common patient-reported adverse events were hand-foot syndrome (21.3%) and hypertension (18.3%). Conclusions Our survey showed a high satisfaction degree with apatinib in long-term cancer survivors. Long-term apatinib treatment resulted in almost no negative impact on patient’s quality of life.

Abstract Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) commonly precedes ventricular remodeling, heart failure. Few dynamic molecular signatures have gained widespread acceptance in mainstream clinical testing despite the discovery of many potential candidates. These unmet needs with respect to biomarker and drug discovery of AMI necessitate a prioritization. We enrolled patients with AMI aged between 30 and 70. RNA-seq analysis was performed on the peripheral blood mononuclear cells collected from the patients at three time points: 1 day, 7 days, and 3 months after AMI. PLC/LC–MS analysis was conducted on the peripheral blood plasma collected from these patients at the same three time points. Differential genes and metabolites between groups were screened by bio-informatics methods to understand the dynamic changes of AMI in different periods. We obtained 15 transcriptional and 95 metabolite expression profiles at three time points after AMI through high-throughput sequencing. AMI-1d: enrichment analysis revealed the biological features of 1 day after AMI primarily included acute inflammatory response, elevated glycerophospholipid metabolism, and decreased protein synthesis capacity. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) might stand promising biomarkers to differentiate post-AMI stage. Anti-inflammatory therapy during the acute phase is an important direction for preventing related pathology. AMI-7d: the biological features of this stage primarily involved the initiation of cardiac fibrosis response and activation of platelet adhesion pathways. Accompanied by upregulated TGF-beta signaling pathway and ECM receptor interaction, GP5 help assess platelet activation, a potential therapeutic target to improve haemostasis. AMI-3m: the biological features of 3 months after AMI primarily showed a vascular regeneration response with VEGF signaling pathway, NOS3 and SHC2 widely activated, which holds promise for providing new therapeutic approaches for AMI. Our analysis highlights transcriptional and metabolomics signatures at different time points after MI, which deepens our understanding of the dynamic biological responses and associated molecular mechanisms that occur during cardiac repair.

ObjectiveTo provide a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian steroid cell tumors, not otherwise specified (SCTs-NOS).MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological data of three patients with SCTs-NOS admitted to the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from 2012 to 2022 and reviewed literature reports related to this disease.ResultsA total of 3 cases in our center and 70 cases searched in literature reports were included. The age at diagnosis ranged from 3 to 93 years (median, 34 years). The common clinical manifestations were hirsutism, acne, deepened voice, clitoromegaly, amenorrhea, and excessive weight gain. Tumor sizes ranged from 1.2 to 45 cm, with an average diameter of 6.5cm. Most of SCTs-NOS were benign, but some of them exhibited malignant behavior. Surgery was the main treatment and close follow-up was required. The follow up time of 73 cases ranged from 3 to 132 months (median, 21.3 months). Disease recurrence or progression occurred in 14 cases (19.2%). Three of the 73 patients had a successful pregnancy.ConclusionSCTs-NOS usually occur in women of reproductive age, which are mainly manifested as androgen excess symptoms. Surgery is an appropriate treatment for SCTs-NOS and should be individualized. Final diagnosis depends on pathology. SCTs-NOS have malignant potential, and the treatments for patients with malignant tumors and disease recurrence or progression were cytoreductive surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy, and gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) therapy.

Background: There is no consensus on the timing of immunotherapeutic strategies for the first-episode anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-IgG (MOG-IgG) associated disorders (MOGAD) presenting with isolated optic neuritis (ON). Objective: To investigate the optimal timing of intravenous methylprednisolone therapy (IVMP) and necessity of immunosuppressive therapy for the first-episode isolated MOG-IgG associated ON (iMOG-ON). Methods: Adult patients with the first-episode iMOG-ON were enrolled. Primary outcomes were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at last follow-up (i.e. final BCVA) and relapse, and their predictors were assessed by multivariate analysis. To investigate the ability of the 35 kDa low-molecular-weight hyaluronan fragment (HA35) to relieve neuropathic and inflammatory pain, including postherpetic neuralgia and shoulder, neck, back and temporomandibular pain. Ten patients with postherpetic neuralgia and 26 patients with shoulder, neck, back or temporomandibular pain were studied and assessed. The 35 kDa hyaluronan fragment (HA35) was prepared by mixing hyaluronidase and 100 mg of high-molecular-weight HA at room temperature for 20 mins. This mixture was locally injected once at the pain point or where the nerve trunk innervated the pain point. Patients scored their pain and comfort on the numerical pain rating scale (NPRS) and the General Comfort Questionnaire (GCQ). After treatment, the NPRS scores and GCQ scores improved. Patients with postherpetic neuralgia and shoulder, neck, back or temporomandibular pain had significantly lower NPRS scores at 30 min to 180 min after injection, especially at 180 min ( p < .001). The GCQ scores after treatment for 24 h was significantly greater than that before treatment ( p < .01). No adverse reactions occurred. The 35 kDa hyaluronan fragment (HA35) effectively relieved postherpetic neuralgia-induced neuropathic pain and shoulder, neck, back and temporomandibular inflammatory pain. Abstract Channelling single-photon emission in multiple well-defined directions and simultaneously controlling its polarization characteristics is highly desirable for numerous quantum technology applications. We show that this can be achieved by using quantum emitters (QEs) nonradiatively coupled to surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), which are scattered into outgoing free-propagating waves by appropriately designed metasurfaces. The QE-coupled metasurface design is based on the scattering holography approach with radially diverging SPPs as reference waves. Using holographic metasurfaces fabricated around nanodiamonds with single Ge vacancy centres, we experimentally demonstrate on-chip integrated efficient generation of two well-collimated single-photon beams propagating along different 15° off-normal directions with orthogonal linear polarizations.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of laser parameters on the fatigue crack growth (FCG) behavior of AZ31B Magnesium alloy TIG welded bionic joints with ‘soft-hard’ alternating structures prepared by laser bionic treatment (LBT). The changes of laser parameters promoted the growth of fine equiaxed grain with random texture, and average grain size was 5.12 ± 0.51–8.19 ± 1.02 μm, which significantly increased isotropy and microhardness. The average microhardness was 66.5 ± 1.68–70.85 ± 1.41 HV0.1, which increased by more than 23.11% compared with untreated welded joints. For bionic welded joints, the heat-affected zone (HAZ) had higher FCG resistance and cycle times than weld metal (WM), and the specimens with notch in the HAZ showed obvious crack deflection. It was found that FCG behavior showed significant microstructure sensitivity by comparing the FCG rate curve and crack opening displacement. The Paris parameters had a significant linear relationship and effectively reflect the FCG resistance of the different specimens. The fatigue fracture showed that the crack growth zone was mainly dominated by typical cleavage steps and secondary cracks. The fatigue fracture region contains quasi-cleavage and ductile fracture. A series of strengthening mechanisms were induced by LBT and could significantly affect FCG behavior, which promoted crack deflection and branching to increase the toughness of the joint, while the laser remelting zone increased the strength of the joint. Therefore, the synergistic effect of strength-toughness of the joint was obtained by LBT, which provided a new idea for optimizing the bionic design and improving the fatigue property of welded joints.

IntroductionChronic heart failure (CHF), as the final stage of the progression of many cardiovascular disorders, is one of the main causes of hospitalization and death in the elderly and has a substantial impact on patients' quality of life (QOL). Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has been shown to considerably enhance QOL and prognosis. Given the barriers to center-based CR faced by most developing countries in the form of expensive instruments, the development of home-based CR is necessary. Tai Chi, as an instrument-free exercise, has been shown to be successful in treating elderly CHF individuals. Fu Yang, as one of the academic concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), believes that the fundamental pathogenesis of CHF is the gradual decline of Yang, and emphasizes the restoration of Yang physiological function in the treatment process. Therefore, we develope a home-based Tai Chi exercise rehabilitation program called Fu Yang Tai Chi (FYTC) for elderly CHF patients by combining the Fu Yang Theory of TCM with the CR theory. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness, acceptability, and safety of the program.Methods and analysisWe suggest conducting a parallel randomized controlled clinical trial with open label. Eighty CHF elderly participants will be randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the FYTC rehabilitation program group or the moderate-intensity aerobic walking control group. Eligible participants will engage in either three sessions weekly of FYTC or walking exercise for 12 weeks. The primary outcome is the relative change in 6 min walk distance (6MWD). The secondary outcomes are the plasma levels of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), QOL, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDd), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and depression scale (SDS), exercise skills, and noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring. Throughout the trial, adverse events will be recorded for safety evaluation. Researchers who are blinded to the treatment allocation will analyze the data.Ethics and disseminationThis research was authorized by the Guang'anmen Hospital Ethics Committee of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (2022-141-KY). The effect of the mixing method (normal and ethanol-assisted) on selected properties of natu-ral rubber with butadiene rubber blends (NR/BR 80/20) was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to evaluate the properties. In addition, the mechanical tensile properties, tear resistance and ther-mal aging, as well as vulcanization characteristic were determined. It was found that ethanol-assisted mixing can significantly improve the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the blends as are-sult of better dispersion of additives in the rubber matrix.

The great promise of the combination of urea oxidation reaction (UOR) with hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) to simultaneously achieve wastewater treatment and hydrogen production calls for the rational design of high‐performance electrocatalysts. Herein, the reconstruction with the formation of Ni2P and Mo2O72− on the surface can largely enhance the alkaline HER activity of P‐NiMoO4 by on‐site electrochemical activation strategy. Systematic experimental results indicate that the reconstruction process enables the exposure of additional Ni sites and the adjustment of hydrogen adsorption to facilitate HER kinetics. Ultimately, a highly efficient alkaline HER electrode with low overpotential of −48.9 mV for 10 mA cm−2 is achieved. More importantly, a UOR electrolyzer assembled with A‐P‐NiMoO4 as the cathode and P‐NiMoO4 as the anode exhibits impressive performance with a small cell voltage of 1.363 V for 10 mA cm−2. The application of the fabricated electrodes in a practical cell driven by a commercial dry battery (1.5 V) demonstrates efficient and stable hydrogen production, making the developed strategy promising for the rational design of highly active electrocatalysts for green hydrogen production.

ObjectiveTo compare the effectiveness and safety of closed reduction percutaneous pinning vs. open reduction with pin fixation to treat the pediatric humeral lateral condylar fracture.MethodsStudies comparing closed reduction percutaneous pinning vs. open reduction with pin fixation for treating pediatric lateral humeral condyle fractures were found by searching Pubmed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases, including randomized/non-randomized controlled, retrospective case-control, and prospective cohort studies. Furthermore, quality evaluation and data retrieval were conducted after the literature review. A meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 software to compare both groups' outcome measures.ResultsThis Meta-analysis incorporated eight studies with 856 cases. The Meta-analysis found no significant difference in functional outcomes, superficial infection, deep infection, poor fracture union, avascular necrosis of the humeral capitulum, or lateral spur formation between groups. However, the status of unaesthetic scars in the closed reduction percutaneous pinning group was superior.ConclusionsFor pediatric humeral lateral condylar fracture surgical therapy, the efficacy and safety of closed reduction percutaneous pinning vs. open reduction with pin fixation were not significantly different; closed reduction percutaneous pinning offered the benefit of eliminating unaesthetic scar. BackgroundMitochondrial metabolism and mitochondrial structure were found to be altered in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). The intent of this exploration was to systematically depict the relevance between mitochondrial metabolism-related genes (MMRGs) and the prognosis of HGSOC patients by bioinformatics analysis and establish a prognostic model for HGSOC.MethodsFirst of all, screened differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between TCGA-HGSOC and GTEx-normal by limma, with RNA-seq related HGSOC sourced from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) database. Subsequently, expressed MMRGs (DE-MMRGs) were acquired by overlapping DEGs with MMRGs, and an enrichment analysis of DE-MMRGs was performed. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) survival analysis and Cox regression analysis were conducted to validate the genes’ prognostic value, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the risk score, and CIBERSORT algorithm to explore the immuno landscape of HGSOC patients. Finally, a drug sensitivity analysis was made via the Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC) database.Results436 HGSOC-related DE-MMRGs (222 up-regulated and 214 down-regulated) were observed to participate in multiple metabolic pathways. The study structured a MMRGs-related prognostic signature on the basis of IDO1, TNFAIP8L3, GPAT4, SLC27A1, ACSM3, ECI2, PPT2, and PMVK. Risk score was the independent prognostic element for HGSOC. Highly dangerous population was characterized by significant association with mitochondria-related biological processes, lower immune cell abundance, lower expression of immune checkpoint and antigenic molecules. Besides, 54 drugs associated with eight prognostic genes were obtained. Furthermore, copy number variation was bound up with the 8 prognostic genes in expression levels.ConclusionWe have preliminarily determined the prognostic value of MMRGs in HGSOC as well as relationship between MMRGs and the tumor immune microenvironment.

This paper presents a coding scheme based on bilayer low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory. The main feature of the proposed scheme is that it exploits the asymmetric properties of an MLC flash channel and stores the extra parity-check bits in the lower page, which are activated only after the decoding failure of the upper page. To further improve the performance of the error correction, a perturbation process based on the genetic algorithm (GA) is incorporated into the decoding process of the proposed coding scheme, which can convert uncorrectable read sequences into error-correctable regions of the corresponding decoding space by introducing GA-trained noises. The perturbation decoding process is particularly efficient at low program-and-erase (P/E) cycle regions. The simulation results suggest that the proposed bilayer LDPC coding scheme can extend the lifetime of MLC NAND flash memory up to 10,000 P/E cycles. The proposed scheme can achieve a better balance between performance and complexity than traditional single LDPC coding schemes. All of these findings indicate that the proposed coding scheme is suitable for practical purposes in MLC NAND flash memory.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that both vitamin C (VC) and vitamin D3 (VD3) have therapeutic potential against metabolic disorders, including obesity, diabetes, and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). However, it is unclear whether VC supplementation is associated with improving the intestinal flora and regulating the metabolism of bile acids via the gut-liver axis in MAFLD. There is still no direct comparison or combination study of these two vitamins on these effects.Methods: In this study, we employed biochemical, histological, 16S rDNA-based microbiological, non-targeted liver metabolomic, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analyses to explore the intervening effect and mechanism of VC and VD3 on MAFLD by using a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mouse model.Results: Treatment of mice with VC and VD3 efficiently reversed the characteristics of MAFLD, such as obesity, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, hepatic steatosis, and inflammation. VC and VD3 showed similar beneficial effects as mentioned above in HFD-induced obese mice. Interestingly, VC and VD3 reshaped the gut microbiota composition; improved gut barrier integrity; ameliorated oxidative stress and inflammation in the gut-liver axis; inhibited bile acid salt reflux-related ASBT; activated bile acid synthesis-related CYP7A1, bile acid receptor FXR, and bile acid transportation-related BSEP in the gut-liver axis; and improved bile secretion, thus decreasing the expression of FAS in the liver and efficiently ameliorating MAFLD in mice.Conclusion: Together, the results indicate that the anti-MAFLD activities of VC and VD3 are linked to improved gut-liver interactions via regulation of the gut microbiota and bile acid metabolism, and they may therefore prove useful in treating MAFLD clinically.

ObjectivesTo analyze the trends in mortality and causes of death among children under 5 years of age in Xuzhou, China between 2016 and 2020, in order to protect children's health and provide a basis for formulating child survival, development, and protection strategies.MethodsA population-based epidemiological study was conducted. Data were obtained from the Xuzhou Center for Disease Control Prevention. We input the data into the excel database and analyzed with SPSS20.0.ResultsThere were 1,949 children under 5 years of age died in Xuzhou, The number of deaths from 2016 to 2020 were 573 (29.40%), 577 (29.60%), 371 (19.04%), 334 (17.14%), and 94 (4.82%) respectively, mortality in children showed a downward trend. The number of deaths was relatively high in January (195 cases, 10.01%), February (190 cases, 9.75%), and May (180 cases, 9.24%), while was relatively small in July (147 cases, 7.54%), August (139 cases, 7.13%), and September (118 cases, 6.05%). The leading causes of death (COD) in children under 5 years of age were neonatal suffocation and hypoxia (323 cases, 16.57%). Pizhou (528 cases, 27.09%) showed the highest number of deaths in children under 5 years of age in China, and the Kaifa (25 cases, 1.28%) zone showed the lowest death toll.ConclusionsOur research suggested that the current strategies for reducing child mortality should prioritize the actions on neonatal deaths and conduct targeted interventions for the main cause.

BackgroundThe diagnosis of radioiodine refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (RAIR-DTC) is primarily based on clinical evolution and iodine uptake over the lesions, which is still time-consuming, thus urging a predictive model for timely RAIR-DTC informing. The aim of this study was to develop a nomogram model for RAIR prediction among DTC patients with distant metastases (DM).MethodsData were extracted from the treatment and follow-up databases of Peking Union Medical College Hospital between 2010 and 2021. A total of 124 patients were included and divided into RAIR (n=71) and non-RAIR (n=53) according to 2015 ATA guidelines. All patients underwent total thyroidectomy followed by at least two courses of RAI treatment. Serological markers and various clinical, pathological, genetic status, and imaging factors were integrated into this study. The pre-treatment stimulated Tg and pre- and post-treatment suppressed Tg at the first and second course RAI treatment were defined as s-Tg1, s-Tg2, sup-Tg1, and sup-Tg2, respectively. Δs-Tg denoted s-Tg1/s-Tg2, and Δs-TSH denoted s-TSH1/s-TSH2. Multivariate logistic regression and correlation analysis were utilized to determine the independent predictors of RAIR. The performance of the nomogram was assessed by internal validation and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and benefit in clinical decision-making was assessed using decision curve.ResultsIn univariate logistic regression, nine possible risk factors were related to RAIR. In addition, this paper proposes that China should draw up its own development path of renewable energy from international development experience, and actively explore renewable energy policies and strategies adapted to different stages of development.

Intensive land use assessment is a key research topic in urban land use, and most of the existing studies focus on macro-level assessment. There is a lack of research on the micro-level assessment of intensive urban land use, especially at the parcel level. The objective of this research is to propose a method for the parcel-based evaluation of urban commercial land intensification. The study uses a multidimensional evaluation framework and index system, comprehensive evaluation, and spatially exploratory analysis of urban commercial intensive land use based on “building intensity, use efficiency, compatibility, and diversity”. The study finds that (1) the average value of intensive use of urban commercial land is 13.01, the standard deviation is 5.11, and the median value is 13, which generally indicate a medium level. (2) The degree of intensive use of commercial land has obvious characteristics of a high, medium, and low level. The study shows that when evaluating the degree of land use intensification at the parcel level, it is also necessary to consider the influence of the compatibility and diversity of external land use. The research results can provide a basis for spatial planning and the optimal design of urban land resources to improve urban vitality.

Voltage sag is one of the most harmful power quality issues. In practical engineering, harmonic and noise interference problems will bring big challenges to the analysis of voltage signals. These disturbances can easily lead to a delay or even false detection of the voltage signal. To address this problem, adaptive processing and diagnosis methods of the voltage signal, such as the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and the Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD), have become a research hotspot. In order to overcome the interference of voltage harmonic and achieve rapid voltage sag detection, this paper first analyzes the performance of EMD and VMD in decomposing voltage sag signals. Then, a tailored EMD-based adaptive voltage signal expansion method for real-time voltage sag detection is proposed. The sampling voltage signal is automatically expanded using the real-time voltage signal to achieve the rapid detection of voltage sag under complex operational environments. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method can detect the voltage sag within 1 millisecond.

Optical metasurfaces, i.e., thin planar structures with subwavelength metal or dielectric unit cells, have attracted great interest due to their intriguing capabilities of shaping light in both linear and nonlinear regimes. However, their saturable absorption properties and corresponding applications have so far been rarely exploited. Here we report on passively mode-locked ytterbium-doped fiber lasers utilizing saturable metasurfaces made of periodically arranged gold nanorods. Three 400-nm-period metasurfaces with gold nanorods of different lengths (from 210 to 240 nm) and plasmonic resonances (from 968 to 1044 nm) are fabricated and found to exhibit nonlinear absorption with decent modulation depths, facilitating the formation of mode-locking states at 1060 nm. The corresponding lasers generate typically mode-locked pulses with the duration of ∼ 62.3 ps, repetition rate of 10.33 MHz, and signal-to-noise ratio of ∼74 dB. Our experimental results demonstrate that the gold nanorod-based metasurfaces can be used as relatively broadband mode-lockers in the 1-μm-wavelength range.

Haemaphysalis longicornis is one of the most dominant and widespread tick species in China. This species mainly infests wild animals and occasionally attacks humans, and has been associated with the transmission of a variety of zoonotic pathogens including spotted fever group Rickettsia (SFGR), severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV), Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Babesia spp. and Theileria spp.. Although there are increasing reports of various pathogens associated with H. longicornis, some neglected pathogens in certain areas still need to be studied. In this study, a total of 171 H. longicornis ticks were collected from goats in three locations of Shandong Province, Eastern China (Zibo, Linyi, and Qingdao cities), and subsequently screened for the presence of Rickettsia, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia bacteria. A total of four bacterial species were identified and characterized. “Candidatus Rickettsia jingxinensis” was detected in one tick specimen from Zibo city. Of 98 ticks from Linyi city, 63.27% (62/98) were tested positive for Anaplasma capra and 5.10% (5/98) were positive for Anaplasma bovis. Interestingly, a novel Anaplasma species was detected and characterized in one tick specimen from Zibo and one other from Linyi, respectively. Genetic and phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S, gltA, groEL, and msp4 genes indicated that it was divergent from all known Anaplasma species but mostly related to A. phagocytophilum and “Cadidatus Anaplasma boleense”. Based on where it was first detected, we named it “Candidatus Anaplasma shandongensis”.

The key components of the automatic gun are subjected to the severe working condition of high temperature, transient state and continuous strong impact load in the shooting process, the surface of which using the alloy constructional steel is prone to fatigue cracks and gradual expansion, resulting in the fracture of the key components and the fault of the automatic gun. To improve the lifespan of the automatic gun, ultrasonic composite strengthening modification treatment (UCSM) was employed to improve the surface properties of alloy constructional steel in the present work. The three aspects of surface roughness, surface hardness and friction-wear properties, in comparison with those of the traditional dry cutting and advanced ultrasonic-rolling surface modification (AURSM), were characterized. The results show that the surface roughness of the samples after the ultrasonic composite strengthening modification fluctuates by about 0.31 μm, and the surface hardness increases by about 23.5% when compared with the cutting hardness, and the friction-wear properties of the samples has been increased by more than 75%. Ultrasonic composite strengthening modification can increases the local residual compressive stress on the material surface, which endows the material with better surface properties.

BackgroundRemotely delivered intervention is widely applied to loneliness treatment in older adults, but the effect is controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of remotely delivered intervention on loneliness using a systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsThe PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, CINAHL (EBSCO), PsycINFO (EBSCO) databases were searched for studies, the search ended on 7 July 2021. Thirteen randomized controlled trials of remotely delivered intervention compared with usual care, brief contact, or no intervention for loneliness were included. A random-effects model measured estimation of loneliness reduction. Furthermore, standardized mean differences (SMDs), 95% confidence intervals (CIs), publication bias, and heterogeneity were calculated. Subgroup analysis was used to explore the factors that might affect the treatment effects.ResultsThe evidence of remotely delivered intervention on loneliness reduction was certain (SMD = −0.41 [95% CI, −0.70 to −0.13]). Media subgroup analysis supported the effectiveness of intervention delivered by video call (SMD = −0.54 [95% CI, −0.83 to −0.25]); treatment strategy subgroup analysis found evidence to support the effectiveness of increasing social support and maladaptive social cognition treatment strategy (SMD = −0.47 [95% CI, −0.77 to −0.18] and SMD = −1.04 [95% CI, −1.98 to −0.10], respectively); participants subgroup analysis shown the effectiveness of intervention for older adults living in LTC and social isolation (SMD = −1.40 [95% CI, −2.43 to −0.36] and SMD = −0.55 [95% CI, −0.74 to −0.36], respectively); group format subgroup analysis testified the effectiveness of intervention carried out in individual format (SMD = −0.39 [95% CI, −0.71 to −0.07]); measurement time points subgroup analysis found the positive effect of intervention at 3 months and 3 to 6 months stage (SMD = −0.33 [95% CI, −0.52 to −0.14] and SMD = −0.32 [95% CI, −0.57 to −0.07], respectively). Significant publication bias was detected (p < 0.05), and the heterogeneity of the studies was substantial.ConclusionThis systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrate that remotely delivered intervention can reduce loneliness in older adults, and it appears to be affected by media type, treatment strategy, participants characteristics, group format, and measurement time points.

In this study, ferroelectric Bi4Ti3O12 and Au-Bi4Ti3O12 nanofibers were synthesized by electrospinning and ion sputtering. The piezoelectric effect of Bi4Ti3O12 and the surface plasmon effect of Au were used to improve the photogenerated electron–hole separation and optical absorption. The results of the characterization showed successful preparation of the orthorhombic Bi4Ti3O12 nanofibers, in which the absorption band edge was 426 nm with a 2.91 eV band gap. The piezo-photocatalytic activity of the Bi4Ti3O12 was tested through the degradation of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin under three different experimental conditions: light, vibration, and light plus vibration. All of the ciprofloxacin was degraded after 80 min in piezo-photocatalytic conditions, with a piezo-photocatalytic degradation rate of 0.03141 min−1, which is 1.56 and 3.88 times, respectively, that of photocatalysis and piezo-catalysis. After loading Au on the Bi4Ti3O12, the degradation efficiency was improved under all three conditions, and the piezoelectric photocatalytic efficiency of Au-Bi4Ti3O12 for ciprofloxacin degradation was able to reach 100% in 60 min with a piezo-photocatalytic degradation rate of 0.06157 min−1. The results of the photocurrent and impedance tests indicated that the photocurrent density of Bi4Ti3O12 nanofibers loaded with Au is increased from 5.08 × 10−7 A/cm2 to 8.17 × 10−6 A/cm2, which is 16.08 times higher than without loading the Au. This work provides an effective way to improve the conversion efficiency of photocatalysis to degrade organic pollutants by combining the plasmon effect and the piezoelectric effect.

Abstract Background Chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNSLBP) troubles approximately 30% of people worldwide. Silver needle therapy (SNT) is a treatment method to relieve soft tissue pain through heating. Therefore, this study aimed to observe the effects of SNT on CNSLBP. Methods In this study, 100 patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: silver needle (SN) group and control group (n = 50). In the SN group, patients received SNT and physiotherapy, while patients received physiotherapy alone in the control group. At the 6-month follow-up, the numerical rating scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Short-Form 12 of quality of life (SF-12), the natural logarithms of low-frequency measurement (InLF), and the natural logarithms of high-frequency measurement (InHF) of heart rate variability (HRV) were recorded. Results In both groups, NRS, ODI, SF-12 scores, and HRV at 2 weeks after treatment were improved and maintained for 6 months. This paper proposed a novel image interpolation algorithm with an arbitrary upscaling factor based on the spatial general autoregressive model. First, to accommodate arbitrary scale factors, a non-integer mapping method was modulated into the spatial general autoregressive model, which was employed to model the piecewise stationary pattern with a higher description capacity than autoregressive models. A gradient angle guided extension method was utilized to extend the spatial general autoregressive model, and more pixels in the neighborhood were included to estimate the parameters of the spatial general autoregressive model. To realize the high-accuracy estimation of the model parameters, a regularization method via an elastic network was adopted to maintain the complexity of the object function in a reasonable state and address the overfitting problem. We also introduced an iterative curvature method to refine the interpolation result of those image blocks with large variances of gray intensities. Experiments on 25 images were conducted with integer and non-integer magnification factors to systematically verify the objective and subjective measures of the proposed method. The visual artifacts were effectively suppressed by the proposed method, and a flexible interpolation method for arbitrary scale factors was implemented.

Abstract Graphitic multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) can function as high‐performance cathode materials for rechargeable Al‐ion batteries with well‐defined discharging plateaus and reasonable charge/discharge C‐rates. However, the main intercalation/deintercalation or adsorption/desorption path of AlCl4− anions into or onto G‐MWCNTs has not been elucidated. Herein, we used battery cells comprised of G‐MWCNTs with different aspect ratios, Al metal, and AlCl3/1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid as the cathode, anode, and electrolyte, respectively. The electrochemical performance of the Al||G‐MWCNT cell increased as the aspect ratio of the G‐MWCNT cathode increased (i. e., longer and thinner). The degree of defects of the G‐MWCNTs was similar (0.15–0.22); hence, the results confirm that the main and alternate paths for the AlCl4− intercalation/de‐intercalation or adsorption/desorption into/from or onto/from the G‐MWCNT are the basal and edge planes, respectively. The step‐like structures of defects on the basal plane provide the main reaction site for AlCl4− anions.

With the development of the Cyber-Physical-Social Systems(CPSS), a large number of multidimensional time series have been generated in today's world, such as: sensor data for industrial equipment operation, vehicle driving data, and cloud server operation and maintenance data and so on. The key task of Cloud-Fog-Edge Computing in managing these systems is how to detect anomalous data in a specific time series to facilitate operator action to solve potential system problems. So multidimensional time series outlier detection become an important direction of CPSS data mining and Cloud-Fog-Edge Computing research, and it has a wide range of applications in industry, finance, medicine and other fields. This paper proposes a framework called Multidimensional time series Outlier detection based on a Time Convolutional Network AutoEncoder (MOTCN-AE), which can detect outliers in time series data, such as identifying equipment failures, dangerous driving behaviors of cars, etc. Specifically, this paper first uses a feature extraction method to transform the original time series into a feature-rich time series. Second, the proposed TCN-AE is used to reconstruct the feature-rich time series data, and the reconstruction error is used to calculate outlier scores. Finally, the MOTCN-AE framework is validated by multiple time series datasets to demonstrate its effectiveness in detecting time series outliers.

Background: Infection analysisamongst malignant cancer patients remains elusive. The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of both infection and anti-infection treatments in patients group with malignant cancer. Rickettsiales (Rickettsia spp., Ehrlichia spp., and Anaplasma spp., etc.) are generally recognized as potentially emerging tick-borne pathogens. However, some bacteria and areas in China remain uninvestigated. In this study, we collected 113 ticks from mammals in Guizhou Province, Southwest China, and screened for the Rickettsiales bacteria. Subsequently, two spotted fever group Rickettsia species and one Candidatus Lariskella sp. were detected and characterized. “Candidatus Rickettsia jingxinensis” was detected in Rhipicephalus microplus (1/1), Haemaphysalis flava (1/3, 33.33%), Haemaphysalis kitaokai (1/3), and Ixodes sinensis (4/101, 3.96%), whereas Rickettsia monacensis was positive in H. flava (1/3), H. kitaokai (2/3), and I. sinensis ticks (74/101, 73.27%). At least two variants/sub-genotypes were identified in the R. monacensis isolates, and the strikingly high prevalence of R. monacensis may suggest a risk of human infection. Unexpectedly, a Candidatus Lariskella sp. belonging to the family Candidatus Midichloriaceae was detected from Ixodes ovatus (1/4) and I. sinensis (10/101, 9.90%). The gltA and groEL gene sequences were successfully obtained, and they show the highest (74.63–74.89% and 73.31%) similarities to “Candidatus Midichloria mitochondrii”, respectively. Herein, we name the species “Candidatus Lariskella guizhouensis”. These may be the first recovered gltA and groEL sequences of the genus Candidatus Lariskella.

There were dramatic changes in the ecological vulnerability (EV) of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) region due to the effects of climate change and human activity. Obtaining field observation and statistical data for the evaluation of the EV of the CPEC region is difficult due to its transnational status. This study proposes a novel remote sensing ecological vulnerability index (RSEVI) based on the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), STRM3, DMSP-OLS, and NPP-VIIRS products. The RSEVI index was applied to the CPEC region to investigate the spatiotemporal changes in EV and the influencing factors during 2000–2019. The results showed that: (1) the large-scale application of the RSEVI index showed good applicability to the CPEC region, with a precision of 89.75%; (2) the average RSEVI value for the CPEC region was 0.83, thereby falling into a category of “intensive vulnerability”; (3) a stable trend in RSEVI was observed for the entire CPEC region during the study period, except for the Indus Basin where there was a significant change; (4) the increasing rate of the RSEVI in the northeastern parts exceeded that of other parts during 2000–2019; (5) precipitation, temperature, and vegetation coverage showed negative relationships with RSEVI, whereas RSEVI showed a positive relationship with slope. The RSEVI results indicated that ice and bare land were the most vulnerable, whereas cropland was the least vulnerable; (6) there were differences in the dominant factor and dominant interactive factor among different sub-regions. The results of this study could provide important decision support for the protection of the ecological environment and for economic development.

As a high-precision motion mechanism, the kinematics and dynamics of cascade thrust reverser are sensitive to the changes of nonlinear factors which are rarely considered in traditional dynamic modeling and optimization. In order to study the effect of nonlinear factors on the dynamics behavior of cascade thrust reverser mechanism, the dynamic model considering joint clearance and flexible component is established. Lankarani–Nikravesh and modified-Coulomb model are used to establish the contact force at the clearance, and the flexible component in the mechanism is modeled by the absolute node coordinate method. The effects of joint clearance value, clearance position, flexible component, and driving speed on the dynamic response of the mechanism are studied. Specifically, the nonlinear characteristics of the mechanism increase with the clearance value, and the joint clearance near the mobile fairing has greater influence on the kinematics and dynamics of blocker door. For the mechanical system with clearances, the flexible component can partially reduce the vibration of the system. The analysis of the motion synchronization of the thrust reverser actuators indicates that the asynchronous movement of actuators may increase the driving forces of actuators especially for the middle actuator.

Rhipicephalus microplus ticks are vectors for multiple pathogens infecting animals and humans. Although the medical importance of R. microplus has been well-recognized and studied in most areas of China, the occurrence of tick-borne Rickettsiales has seldom been investigated in Guizhou Province, Southwest China. In this study, we collected 276 R. microplus ticks from cattle (209 ticks) and goats (67 ticks) in three locations of Guizhou Province. The Rickettsia, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia were detected by targeting the 16S rRNA gene and were further characterized by amplifying the key genes. One Rickettsia (Ca. Rickettsia jingxinensis), three Ehrlichia (E. canis, E. minasensis, Ehrlichia sp.), and four Anaplasma (A. capra, A. ovis, A. marginale, Ca. Anaplasma boleense) species were detected, and their gltA and groEL genes were recovered. Candidatus Rickettsia jingxinensis, a spotted fever group of Rickettsia, was detected in a high proportion of the tested ticks (88.89%, 100%, and 100% in ticks from the three locations, respectively), suggesting the possibility that animals may be exposed to this type of Rickettsia. All the 16S, gltA, groEL, and ompA sequences of these strains are 100% identical to strains reported in Ngawa, Sichuan Province. E. minasensis, A. marginale, and Candidatus Anaplasma boleense are known to infect livestock such as cattle. The potential effects on local husbandry should be considered. Notably, E. canis, A. ovis, and A. capra have been reported to infect humans. The relatively high positive rates in Qianxinan (20.99%, 9.88%, and 4.94%, respectively) may indicate the potential risk to local populations. Furthermore, the genetic analysis indicated that the E. minasensis strains in this study may represent a variant or recombinant. Our results indicated the extensive diversity of Rickettsiales in R. microplus ticks from Guizhou Province. The possible occurrence of rickettsiosis, ehrlichiosis, and anaplasmosis in humans and domestic animals in this area should be further considered and investigated.

Methane (CH4) exerted protective effects against lung ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, but the mechanism remains unclear, especially the role of pulmonary surfactant. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effects of CH4 inhalation on pulmonary surfactant in rat lung I/R injury and to elucidate the mechanism. Rats were randomly divided into three groups (n = 6): the sham, I/R control, and I/R CH4 groups. In the sham group, only thoracotomy was performed on the rats. In the I/R control and I/R CH4 groups, the rats underwent left hilum occlusion for 90 min, followed by reperfusion for 180 min and ventilation with O2 or 2.5% CH4, respectively. Compared with those of the sham group, the levels of large surfactant aggregates (LAs) in pulmonary surfactant, lung compliance, oxygenation decreased, the small surfactant aggregates (SAs), inflammatory response, oxidative stress injury, and cell apoptosis increased in the control group (P < 0.05). Compared to the control treatment, CH4 increased LA (0.42 ± 0.06 vs. 0.31 ± 0.09 mg/kg), oxygenation (201 ± 11 vs. 151 ± 14 mmHg), and lung compliance (16.8 ± 1.0 vs. 11.5 ± 1.3 ml/kg), as well as total antioxidant capacity and Nrf2 protein expression and decreased the inflammatory response and number of apoptotic cells (P < 0.05). In conclusion, CH4 inhalation decreased oxidative stress injury, inflammatory response, and cell apoptosis, and improved lung function through Nrf2-mediated pulmonary surfactant regulation in rat lung I/R injury.

Abstract Backgroud Fusaruside is an immunomodulatory fungal sphingolipid which has medical potentials for treating colitis and liver injury, but its poor natural abundance limits its further study. Results In this study, we described a synthetic biology approach for fusaruside production by engineered Pichia pastoris that was based on polycistronic expression. Two fusaruside biosynthesis genes (Δ3(E)-sd and Δ10(E)-sd), were introduced into P. pastoris to obtain fusaruside producing strain FUS2. To further enhance the yield of fusaruside, three relevant biosynthetic genes (Δ3(E)-sd, Δ10(E)-sd and gcs) were subsequently introduced into P. pastoris to obtain FUS3. All of the biosynthetic genes were successfully co-expressed in FUS2 and FUS3. Compared to that produced by FUS2, fusaruside achieved from FUS3 were slightly increased. In addition, the culture conditions including pH, temperature and methanol concentration were optimized to improve the fusaruside production level. Conclusions Here a novel P. pastoris fusaruside production system was developed by introducing the biosynthetic genes linked by 2A peptide gene sequences into a polycistronic expression construct, laying a foundation for further development and application of fusaruside.

In this paper, a cache-enabled wireless network with circuit power consumption is considered, and the strategy of joint transmission and local caching is studied. The optimization problem of energy consumption minimization is formulated, where the optimized variables include the transmission rate and the local caching rate. The constraint conditions contain the maximum data departure curve, the minimum data departure curve, and the range of the local caching rate. The original problem is intractable and is transformed into a two-layer optimization one by variable substitution. Under given caching policy, the sufficient and necessary conditions for the optimal offline transmission strategy are deduced by using the transmission characteristics. Then, an energy-efficient offline transmission strategy is proposed, and its optimality is proved. The simulation results are provided to verify the performance of the proposed strategy. The simulation results reveal the impact of the cache capacity and the file popularity on energy consumption. Under the same conditions, the performance of the proposed strategy is better than that of the other known algorithms. The proposed strategy to energy-efficient communication is helpful for future green communication.

In this paper, the secure energy-efficient transmission problem for an artificial-noise (AN)-aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication system with the imperfect channel state information (CSI) is studied. The secure energy efficiency problem is formulated with the imperfect CSI, where the constraints contain the minimum secrecy rate request of the legitimate vehicle (LV), the minimum energy harvesting (EH) request, the maximum transmit power, and the power splitting (PS) value. By exploiting the maximum ratio transmission (MRT) scheme and the norm-bounded matrix theory, we convert the original intractable problem to a fractional optimization one with three variables. Then, a two-level optimization algorithm is presented for the nonconvex fractional optimization problem. By introducing an auxiliary slack variable, the first level problem can be solved via one-dimensional optimization algorithm. The second level fractional optimization problem was furhther converted into an integer optimization one by the Dinkelbach method, and the closed-form solutions of the transmit power and the AN power are provided. Simulation results are given to verify the performance of our presented algorithm.

The complicated relationship of the high order static indeterminate structure will lead to a lot of calculation work. The strength analysis of the structure is very difficult. In aircraft design phase, a structural simplified method should be used to model the load characteristics of the structure. In the paper, the buckling analysis of airframe jointed panel is investigated under combined loading and the effect of jointed position to buckling load is also presented. For the buckling analysis of special joined structure, one new method which is better than traditional methods is described.

Chemo-resistance is an important barrier to effective treatment of ovarian cancer. Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors are currently promising targeted drugs used to treat BRCA-mutant ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer patients with BRCA 1/2 mutations appear to benefit better from PARP inhibitors and chemotherapy. Understanding the mechanisms underlying PARP inhibitors and chemotherapy resistance is urgently needed. There is increasing evidence that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in drug resistance. MiR-506-3p is an effective inhibitor of the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and can enhance chemotherapy and olaparib response in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGS-OvCa). Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2 (EZH2) is considered as a direct target of miR-506-3p. The silencing of EZH2 mimics the inhibitory effects of miR-506-3p on chemo-resistance and olaparib response. Rescue of EZH2 prevented the functions of miR-506-3p. Moreover, EZH2 activates the β-catenin pathway. MiR-506-3p overexpression decreased the level of β-catenin, and the sensitivity to olaparib and cisplatin mediated by miR-506-3p was partially reversed by regulating β-catenin expression in ovarian cancer. Our results suggest that miR-506-3p increases response to PARP inhibitors and cisplatin in serous ovarian cancer by targeting EZH2/β-catenin signal pathway, which opens the possibility of using miR-506-3p overexpression as a potential therapeutic for ovarian cancer.

Epidemiological studies support the association between inadequate vitamin C (Vc) intake and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the intervention dose of Vc, and the prophylactic and therapeutic effects on NAFLD are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the prophylactic and therapeutic effects of low (LVc), medium (MVc) and high (HVc) doses of Vc on NAFLD. C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to prophylactic groups (mice received a high-fat diet (HFD) concomitant with different doses of Vc) and therapeutic groups (HFD-induced NAFLD mice treated with different doses of Vc). Results showed that prophylactic LVc and MVc administration reduced the risk of NAFLD development in HFD-fed mice, as evidenced by significantly lowered body weight, perirenal adipose tissue mass, and steatosis, whereas prophylactic HVc administration did not prevent HFD-induced NAFLD development. Furthermore, therapeutic MVc administration significantly ameliorated HFD-induced increase in body weight, perirenal adipose tissue mass and steatosis, whereas therapeutic LVc and HVc administration did not ameliorate NAFLD symptoms. In fact, therapeutic HVc administration significantly increased body weight, perirenal adipose tissue mass, and lobular inflammation. Moreover, prophylactic LVc administration was more effective than therapeutic LVc administration as evidenced by significantly lower body weight, perirenal adipose tissue mass, steatosis, ballooned hepatocytes, and lobular inflammation in prophylactic LVc administration. The same trends were observed between prophylactic HVc administration and therapeutic HVc administration. In addition, all Vc-administered mice exhibited low blood glucose, triglycerides and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance values and high adiponectin levels compared to HFD-fed mice. Our study suggested that MVc was beneficial for HFD-induced NAFLD prophylaxis and therapy. LVc prevented HFD-induced NAFLD development, while HVc for NAFLD management was risky. This study offers valuable insight into the effect of various Vc doses on NAFLD management.

The relative motion and collision between grinding media in a wet-stirred accelerator mill are modelled using the discrete element method (DEM) coupled with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The local average normalized grinding media velocity profile is employed to divide the grinding chamber into four volumes, which facilitates the analysis of the stress energy distribution. The local grinding media filling levels, velocity distributions, stress energy distributions and energy efficiencies are compared at various total grinding media filling levels and stirrer speeds. The rationality of the division of stress energy volume was verified by the stress energy distribution. The stress intensity, stress number and collision stress energy from the grinding media’s motion and particle collisions exhibited different distributions, with the stress number playing a leading role in the collision stress energy distribution. Moreover, energy efficiency is quantitatively characterized under different process conditions. This simulation-based research provides a theoretical reference for the industrial application and product development of accelerator mills used for grinding applications.

The coded references and geometric constraints based method is suggested to solve the inconsistency problem of measurement range and accuracy for slender shafts. First, a slender shaft is divided into segments. Images of each segment along with a coded and calibrated reference are taken at two object distances. The code of the reference is obtained using the template match technique. Consequently, the coordinates of the feature points of the reference are solved. Thus, the external parameters of the camera are calculated. A mathematical model of the diameter, centre coordinate and external parameters is established based on the pinhole imaging principle. The problem that only one image cannot extract the centre coordinate is solved, as is the pseudo-diameter problem. A coordinate transformation model for these feature points is established and the sectional measurement results are associated by using the model. Experiments are carried out on lead screws; the measuring uncertainty of the experimental system is 0.007 mm, which is 12.9% higher than that of a coordinate measuring machine. The systematic error of the experimental system is 0.01754 mm. It is proved that the suggested method can stably and reliably measure the straightness errors of slender shafts with high accuracy.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) mostly affects obese women in childbearing age, leading to frustrating headache and permanent visual impairment. The exact etiology of this condition is poorly understood, and the population at risk and clinical presentation seems to be homogeneous. However, little attention has been paid to the clinical features of IIH patients with anemia. We herein performed a retrospective observational study by using the data of patients with presumed IIH who were referred to the neurology department of Beijing Tongren Hospital from January 2014 to August 2019 to describe the clinical features and radiological findings in patients with IIH and anemia, and compared these with those without anemia. The patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of anemic diseases. Clinical data including demographic characteristics, clinical features, past medical history, laboratory and neuroradiological findings, diagnoses, treatments and prognosis of these patients were reviewed and compared in both the groups. A total of 153 patients with IIH were enrolled, which included 22 cases with anemia (mean age, 33.23±9.68 years; 19 [86.36%] female) and 131 cases without anemia (mean age 37.11±11.56 years; 97 [74.05%] female). In the anemia group, 19/22 cases had iron deficiency anemia and 3/22 had renal anemia. Compared with patients in the non-anemia group, IIH patients with anemia had a shorter disease course, and tended to present pulsatile tinnitus and transverse sinus stenosis (TSS), faster and better prognosis after treatments for correcting anemia and reducing intracranial pressure. Our findings highlighted the importance of obtaining full blood counts in IIH patients with subacute onset, and provided appropriate and prompt treatments if proven anemic in order to bring better outcomes.

Liver cancer is thought as the most common human malignancy worldwide, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for nearly 90% liver cancer. Due to its poor early diagnosis and limited treatment, HCC has therefore become the most lethal malignant cancers in the world. Recently, molecular targeted therapies showed great promise in the treatment of HCC, and novel molecular therapeutic targets is urgently needed. KIF15 is a microtubule-dependent motor protein involved in multiple cell processes, such as cell division. Additionally, KIF15 has been reported to participate in the growth of various types of tumors; however, the relation between KIF15 and HCC is unclear. Herein, our study investigated the possible role of KIF15 on the progression of HCC and found that KIF15 has high expression in tumor samples from HCC patients. KIF15 could play a critical role in the regulation of cell proliferation of HCC, which was proved by in vitro and in vivo assays. In conclusion, this study confirmed that KIF15 could be a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of HCC.

In the present work, a semi-interpenetrating network (semi-IPN) high-temperature proton exchange membrane based on polyethyleneimine (PEI), epoxy resin (ER), and polybenzimidazole (PBI) was prepared and characterized, aiming at their future application in fuel cell devices. The physical properties of the semi-IPN membrane are characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and tensile strength test. The results indicate that the as-prepared PEI-ER/PBI semi-IPN membranes possess excellent thermal stability and mechanical strength. After phosphoric acid (PA) doping treatment, the semi-IPN membranes show high proton conductivities. PA doping level and volume swelling ratio as well as proton conductivities of the semi-IPN membranes are found to be positively related to the PEI content. High proton conductivities of 3.9∽7.8×10−2 S cm−1 are achieved at 160°C for these PA-doped PEI-ER/PBI series membranes. H2/O2 fuel cell assembled with PA-doped PEI-ER(1 : 2)/PBI membrane delivered a peak power density of 170 mW cm-2 at 160°C under anhydrous conditions.

OBJECTIVES: Alcohol for intercostal neuralgia may induce severe injection pain. Although nerve block provided partial pain relief, alcohol might be diluted, and the curative effect decreased when the local anesthetic and alcohol were given at the same point. Therefore, we observed the modified method for intercostal neuralgia, a Two-point method, in which the local anesthetic and alcohol were given at different sites. METHOD: Thirty patients diagnosed with intercostal neuralgia were divided into 2 groups: Single-point group and Two-point group. In the Single-point group, alcohol and local anesthetic were injected at the same point, named the “lesion point”, which was the lower edge of ribs and 5 cm away from the midline of the spinous process. In the Two-point group, alcohol was injected at the lesion point, whereas the local anesthetic was administered at the “anesthesia point”, which was 3 cm away from the midline of spinous process. Abstract Background Patient-derived organoids and xenografts (PDXs) have emerged as powerful models in functional diagnostics with high predictive power for anticancer drug response. However, limitations such as engraftment failure and time-consuming for establishing and expanding PDX models followed by testing drug efficacy, and inability to subject to systemic drug administration for ex vivo organoid culture hinder realistic and fast decision-making in selecting the right therapeutics in the clinic. The present study aimed to develop an advanced PDX model, namely MiniPDX, for rapidly testing drug efficacy to strengthen its value in personalized cancer treatment. Methods We developed a rapid in vivo drug sensitivity assay, OncoVee® MiniPDX, for screening clinically relevant regimens for cancer. In this model, patient-derived tumor cells were arrayed within hollow fiber capsules, implanted subcutaneously into mice and cultured for 7 days. The cellular activity morphology and pharmacokinetics were systematically evaluated. MiniPDX performance (sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values) was examined using PDX as the reference. Drug responses were examined by tumor cell growth inhibition rate and tumor growth inhibition rate in PDX models and MiniPDX assays respectively. The results from MiniPDX were also used to evaluate its predictive power for clinical outcomes. Results Morphological and histopathological features of tumor cells within the MiniPDX capsules matched those both in PDX models and in original tumors. Drug responses in the PDX tumor graft assays correlated well with those in the corresponding MiniPDX assays using 26 PDX models generated from patients, including 14 gastric cancer, 10 lung cancer and 2 pancreatic cancer. The positive predictive value of MiniPDX was 92%, and the negative predictive value was 81% with a sensitivity of 80% and a specificity of 93%. Through expanding to clinical tumor samples, MiniPDX assay showed potential of wide clinical application. Conclusions Fast in vivo MiniPDX assay based on capsule implantation was developed-to assess drug responses of both PDX tumor grafts and clinical cancer specimens. The high correlation between drug responses of paired MiniPDX and PDX tumor graft assay, as well as translational data suggest that MiniPDX assay is an advanced tool for personalized cancer treatment.

Bone is one of the most metastatic sites of advanced malignant tumors. With the continuous improvement of diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors, the survival time of patients is prolonged and incidence of bone metastases also increases. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. It is estimated that the incidence of bone metastases in patients advanced lung cancer is about 30%-40%. The traditional diagnosis of bone metastases in lung cancer is based on clinical symptoms, X ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and pathology. Recently, a large number of exploratory studies have reported blood biomarkers as indicators of bone metastasis screening and efficacy evaluation. In this review, we summarize the progress of biomarkers in diagnosis of bone metastases of lung cancer.
