Abstract

Several experiments around the world are looking for a new particle, named Dark Boson, which may do the link between the Ordinary Matter (which forms basically stars, planets, interstellar gas...) and the Hidden Sectors of the Universe. This particle, if it exists, would act as the messenger of a new fundamental interaction of nature. In this paper, the underlying Dark Sectors theory will be introduced first. A non-exhaustive summary of experimental studies carried out to date and foreseen in the incoming years will be presented after,including the 8Be anomaly. The last section will provide a status of the New JEDI**** project which aims to investigate the existence or not of a Dark Boson in the MeV range.

Abstract

International audience; This work presents a consistent formulation of the phase-field approach to model the behavior of nonmiscible alloys under irradiation which includes elastic strain fields, an example of a long-range interaction. Simulations show that the spatial isotropy that is characteristic of radiation-induced patterns breaks down as a result of the elastic strain energy. The consequence of this is the emergence of superlattice structures under irradiation liable to modify macroscopic material properties. This approach is assessed against the experimental study of a AgCu alloy under irradiation: we compare our simulation results to measured solubility limits and Young moduli.

Abstract

A demo experiment was performed at the tandem accelerator of MLL Garching where 152Tb was produced by irradiating a unique ion-implanted 152Gd target ( > 99% enriched) with 8 and 12 MeV protons respectively. At these energies mainly 152Tb was produced by (p,n) reactions plus a small quantity of 153Tb by (p, γ ) reactions. Upper limits are derived for co-production of other Tb isotopes. The achieved radionuclidic purity would enable direct use for human applications. Gd isotopes of adequate isotopic enrichment could be separated with the SIDONIE mass separator at CSNSM Orsay and prepared as cyclotron targets suited for high current irradiations. In a demo experiment samples of highly enriched 158Gd were produced at SIDONIE. The sample purity was characterized by prompt gamma activation analysis at NPI Řež. The neighboring mass 157Gd was found to be suppressed by three to five orders of magnitude, depending on the sample position in the SIDONIE separator.

Abstract

New developments in the field of robotics and computer vision enable to merge sensors to allow fast real-time localization of radiological measurements in the space/volume with near real-time radioactive sources identification and characterization. These capabilities lead nuclear investigations to a more efficient way for operators' dosimetry evaluation, intervention scenarios and risks mitigation and simulations, such as accidents in unknown potentially contaminated areas or during dismantling operations. In this communication, we will present our current developments of an instrument that combines these methods and parameters for specific applications in the field of nuclear investigations.
