Abstract

The masses of the ground and isomeric states in $^{124,125}$Ag have been measured using the phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance technique at the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap mass spectrometer. The ground states of $^{124}$Ag and $^{125}$Ag were found to be 30(250) keV and 250(430) keV less bound but 36 and 110 times more precise than in the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2020, respectively. The excitation energy of $^{124}$Ag$^{m}$, ${E_x = 188.2(25)}$ keV, was determined for the first time. The new precise mass values have been utilised to study the evolution of nuclear structure via two-neutron separation energies. The impact on the astrophysical rapid neutron capture process has been investigated via neutron-capture reaction rate calculations. The precision measurements indicate a more linear trend in two-neutron separation energies and reduce the mass-related uncertainties for the neutron-capture rate of $^{124}$Ag$(n,\gamma)^{125}$Ag by a factor of around 100. Abstract

The complexation of plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) and thermoresponsive microgels is widely exploited for applications. Yet, a microscopic description of the mechanisms governing spatial organization of the NPs is still lacking. Combining small angle X-ray scattering, state-of-the-art numerical simulations and a simple toy model, we uncover how the volume phase transition of microgels drives NP-NP interactions, inducing NP progressive rearrangement with temperature. These results are directly compared to the extinction spectra of microgel-NPs complexes, allowing us to establish for the first time a microscopic link between plasmon coupling and NP local structure.

Abstract

Neutrino detectors are among the largest photonics instruments built for fundamental research. Since its inception, neutrino detection has been inexorably linked to the challenging detection of scarce photons in huge instrumented volumes. Many discoveries in neutrino physics, including the neutrino itself, are inseparable from the evolution of the detector photonics interfaces, i.e. photo-sensors and readout electronics, to yield ever higher precision and richer detection information. The measurement of the energy of neutrinos, referred to as calorimetry, is pursued today to reach permille level systematics control precision, thus leading to further innovation in specialised photonics. This publication describes a novel articulation that detectors may be endowed with multiple photonics interfaces for simultaneous light detection to yield unprecedented high-precision calorimetry. This multi-calorimetry approach opens the novel notion of dual-calorimetry detectors as an evolution from the single-calorimetry setups used over several decades for most experiments so far. The dual-calorimetry design exploits unique response synergies between photon counting and photon-integration detection systems, including correlations and cancellations between calorimetric responses, to yield the unprecedented mitigation of the dominant response systematic effects today for the possible improved design of a new generation of neutrino experiments.

Abstract

Fundamental understanding of macroscopic properties of polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) remains difficult due to the complex interplay of microscopic dynamics and structure, namely interfacial layer relaxations and three-dimensional nanoparticle arrangements. The effect of surface modification by alkyl methoxysilanes at different grafting densities has been studied in PNCs made of poly(2-vinylpyridine) and spherical 20 nm silica nanoparticles (NPs). The segmental dynamics has been probed by broadband dielectric spectroscopy, and the filler structure by small-angle X-ray scattering and reverse Monte Carlo simulations. By combining the particle configurations with the interfacial layer properties, it is shown how surface modification tunes the attractive polymer-particle interactions: bare NPs slow down the polymer interfacial layer dynamics over a thickness of ca. 5 nm, while grafting screens these interactions. Our analysis of interparticle spacing and segmental dynamics provides unprecedented insight into the effect of surface modification on the main characteristics of PNCs: particle interactions and polymer interfacial layers.

Abstract

Both the dispersion state of nanoparticles (NPs) within polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) and the dynamical state of the polymer altered by the presence of the NP/polymer interfaces have a strong impact on the macroscopic properties of PNCs. In particular, mechanical properties are strongly affected by percolation of hard phases, which may be NP networks, dynamically modified polymer regions, or combinations of both. In this article, the impact on dispersion and dynamics of surface modification of the NPs by short monomethoxysilanes with eight carbons in the alkyl part (C8) is studied. As a function of grafting density and particle content, polymer dynamics is followed by broadband dielectric spectroscopy and analyzed by an interfacial layer model, whereas the particle dispersion is investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering and analyzed by reverse Monte Carlo simulations. NP dispersions are found to be destabilized only at the highest grafting. The interfacial layer formalism allows the clear identification of the volume fraction of interfacial polymer, with its characteristic time. The strongest dynamical slow-down in the polymer is found for unmodified NPs, while grafting weakens this effect progressively. The combination of all three techniques enables a unique measurement of the true thickness of the interfacial layer, which is ca. 5 nm. Finally, the comparison between longer (C18) and shorter (C8) grafts provides unprecedented insight into the efficacy and tunability of surface modification. It is shown that C8-grafting allows for a more progressive tuning, which goes beyond a pure mass effect.

Abstract

Despite several decades of development, microfluidics lacks a sealing material that can be readily fabricated, leak-tight under high liquid water pressure, stable over a long time, and vacuum compatible. In this paper, we report the performances of a micro-scale processable sealing material for nanofluidic/microfluidics chip fabrication, which enables us to achieve all these requirements. We observed that micrometric walls made of SU-8 photoresist, whose thickness can be as low as 35 $\mu$m, exhibit water pressure leak-tightness from 1.5 bar up to 5.5 bar, no water porosity even after 2 months of aging, and are able to sustain under $10^{-5}$ mbar vacuum. This sealing material is therefore reliable and versatile for building microchips, part of which must be isolated from liquid water under pressure or vacuum. Moreover, the fabrication process we propose does not require the use of aggressive chemicals or high-temperature or high-energy plasma treatment. It thus opens a new perspective to seal microchips where delicate surfaces such as nanomaterials are present.

10. Large structure simulation for landscape evolution models

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss the efficiency of a new methodology to maintain the accuracy of numerical solutions obtained from our landscape evolution model (LEM). As in every LEM, the tricky part is the coupling between water and sediment flows that drives the nonlinear self-amplification mechanisms. But this coupling is also responsible for the emergence and amplification of numerical errors, as we illustrate here. These numerical instabilities being strongly reminiscent of turbulence-induced instabilities in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), we introduce a “large structure simulation” (LSS) approach for LEM, mimicking the large eddy simulation (LESs) used for turbulent CFD. In practice, this treatment consists in a filtering strategy that controls small-scale perturbations in the solution. We demonstrate the accuracy of the LSS approach in the context of our LEM.

Abstract

The formation of the Earth remains an epoch with mysterious puzzles extending to our still incomplete understanding of the planet's potential origin and bulk composition. Direct confirmation of the Earth's internal heat engine was accomplished by the successful observation of geoneutrinos originating from uranium (U) and thorium (Th) progenies, manifestations of the planet's natural radioactivity dominated by potassium (40K) and the decay chains of uranium (238U) and thorium (232Th). This radiogenic energy output is critical to planetary dynamics and must be accurately measured for a complete understanding of the overall heat budget and thermal history of the Earth. Detecting geoneutrinos remains the only direct probe to do so and constitutes a challenging objective in modern neutrino physics. In particular, the intriguing potassium geoneutrinos have never been observed and thus far have been considered impractical to measure. We propose here a novel approach for potassium geoneutrino detection using the unique antimatter signature of antineutrinos to reduce the otherwise overwhelming backgrounds to observing this rarest signal. The proposed detection framework relies on the innovative LiquidO detection technique to enable positron (e+) identification and antineutrino interactions with ideal isotope targets identified here for the first time. We also provide the complete experimental methodology to yield the first potassium geoneutrino discovery.

Abstract

Two-dimensional Dirac fermions in HgTe quantum wells close to the topological phase transition can generate significant cyclotron emission that is magnetic field tunable in the Terahertz (THz) frequency range. Due to their relativistic-like dynamics, their cyclotron mass is strongly dependent on their electron concentration in the quantum well, providing a second tunability lever and paving the way for a gate-tunable, permanent-magnet Landau laser. In this work, we demonstrate the proof-of-concept of such a back-gate tunable THz cyclotron emitter at fixed magnetic field. The emission frequency detected at 1.5 Tesla is centered on 2.2 THz and can already be electrically tuned over 250 GHz. With an optimized gate and a realistic permanent magnet of 1.0 Tesla, we estimate that the cyclotron emission could be continuously and rapidly tunable by the gate bias between 1 and 3 THz, that is to say on the less covered part of the THz gap., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

The combination of soft responsive particles, such as microgels, with nanoparticles (NPs) yields highly versatile complexes of great potential for applications, from ad-hoc plasmonic sensors to controlled protocols for loading and release. However, the assembly process between these microscale networks and the co-dispersed nano-objects has not been investigated so far at the microscopic level, preempting the possibility of designing such hybrid complexes a priori. In this work, we combine state-of-the-art numerical simulations with experiments, to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms taking place when microgels-NPs assembly is controlled by electrostatic interactions. We find a general behavior where, by increasing the number of interacting NPs, the microgel deswells up to a minimum size, after which a plateau behavior occurs. This occurs either when NPs are mainly adsorbed to the microgel corona via the folding of the more external chains, or when NPs penetrate inside the microgel, thereby inducing a collective reorganization of the polymer network. By varying microgel properties, such as fraction of crosslinkers or charge, as well as NPs size and charge, we further show that the microgel deswelling curves can be rescaled onto a single master curve, for both experiments and simulations, demonstrating that the process is entirely controlled by the charge of the whole microgel-NPs complex. Our results thus have a direct relevance in fundamental materials science and offer novel tools to tailor the nanofabrication of hybrid devices of technological interest.

22. Impact of polyelectrolyte adsorption on the rheology of concentrated Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide) microgel suspensions

Abstract

We explore the impact of three water-soluble polyelectrolytes (PEs) on the flow of concentrated suspensions of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) microgels with thermoresponsive anionic charge density. By progressively adding the PEs to a jammed suspension of swollen microgels, we show that the rheology of the mixtures is remarkably influenced by the sign of the PE charge, PE concentration and hydrophobicity only when the temperature is raised above the microgel volume phase transition temperature $T_c$, namely when microgels collapse, they are partially hydrophobic and form a volume-spanning colloidal gel. We find that the original gel is strengthened close to the isoelectric point, attained when microgels are mixed with cationic PEs, while PE hydrophobicity rules the gel strengthening at very high PE concentrations. Surprisingly, we find that polyelectrolyte adsorption or partial embedding of PE chains inside the microgel periphery occurs also when anionic polymers of polystyrene sulfonate with high degree of sulfonation are added. This gives rise to colloidal stabilization and to the melting of the original gel network above $T_c$. Contrastingly, the presence of polyelectrolytes in suspensions of swollen, jammed microgels results in a weak softening of the original repulsive glass, even when an apparent isoelectric condition is met. Our study puts forward the crucial role of electrostatics in thermosensitive microgels, unveiling an exciting new way to tailor the flow of these soft colloids and highlighting a largely unexplored path to engineer soft colloidal mixtures., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures

In vivo metabolite quantification by short echo time MR spectroscopy is a challenge for which various methods have been proposed. In this study, the reproducibility of quantification outcomes is questioned at three distinct levels: (i) between-software (LCModel and cQUEST), (ii) withinsoftware (with different parameter sets), and (iii) across software executions (when the fitting algorithm uses random seeds, like cQUEST). After running multiple quantification tasks on a dedicated platform (VIP), metrics from Bland-Altman analysis were used to assess the variability of outcomes in signals acquired on a lysolecithin rat model, from a study on demyelination. Results show substantial variations at the three levels, allowing for more potent analyses than from a single parameter set / single software point of view.

Abstract Objectives Detection of liver metastases is crucial for guiding oncological management. Computed tomography through iterative reconstructions is widely used in this indication but has certain limitations. Deep learning image reconstructions (DLIR) use deep neural networks to achieve a significant noise reduction compared to iterative reconstructions. While reports have demonstrated improvements in image quality, their impact on liver metastases detection remains unclear. Our main objective was to determine whether DLIR affects the number of detected liver metastasis. Our secondary objective was to compare metastases conspicuity between the two reconstruction methods. Methods CT images of 121 patients with liver metastases were reconstructed using a 50% adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (50%-ASiR-V), and three levels of DLIR (DLIR-low, DLIR-medium, and DLIR-high). For each reconstruction, two double-blinded radiologists counted up to a maximum of ten metastases. Visibility and contour definitions were also assessed. Comparisons between methods for continuous parameters were performed using mixed models. Abstract

Abstract Evidence linking maternal diet during pregnancy to allergic or respiratory diseases in children remains sparse, and outcomes were mainly studied separately. We aim to investigate these associations by considering clusters of allergic and respiratory multimorbidity among 9679 mother–child pairs from the Elfe birth cohort. Maternal diet quality was evaluated using a food-based score (Diet Quality score), a nutrient-based score (PANDiet score) and food group intakes. Adjusted multinomial logistic regressions on allergic and respiratory multimorbidity clusters up to 5.5 years were performed. Child allergic and respiratory diseases were described through five clusters: “asymptomatic” (43%, reference), “early wheeze without asthma” (34%), “asthma only” (7%), “allergies without asthma” (7%), “multi-allergic” (9%). A higher PANDiet score and an increased legume consumption were associated with a reduced risk of belonging to the “early wheeze without asthma” cluster. A U-shaped relationship was observed between maternal fish consumption and the “allergies without asthma” cluster. To conclude, adequate nutrient intake during pregnancy was weakly associated with a lower risk of “early wheeze without asthma” in children. No association was found with food groups, considered jointly or separately, except for legumes and fish, suggesting that maternal adherence to nutritional guidelines might be beneficial for allergic and respiratory diseases prevention.

Abstract

Abstract The SHiP-charm project was proposed to measure the associated charm production induced by 400 GeV/c protons in a thick target, including the contribution from cascade production. An optimisation run was performed in July 2018 at CERN SPS using a hybrid setup. The high resolution of nuclear emulsions acting as vertex detector was complemented by electronic detectors for kinematic measurements and muon identification. Here we present first results on the analysis of nuclear emulsions exposed in the 2018 run, which prove the capability of reconstructing proton interaction vertices in a harsh environment, where the signal is largely dominated by secondary particles produced in hadronic and electromagnetic showers within the lead target.

At zero temperature, a Galilean-invariant Bose fluid is expected to be fully superfluid. Here we investigate theoretically and experimentally the quenching of the superfluid density of a dilute Bose-Einstein condensate due to the breaking of translational (and thus Galilean) invariance by an external 1D periodic potential. Both Leggett's bound fixed by the knowledge of the total density and the anisotropy of the sound velocity provide a consistent determination of the superfluid fraction. Abstract

A new mechanism has been proposed to simultaneously explain the presence of dark matter and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. This scenario predicts exotic $B$ meson decays into a baryon and a dark sector anti-baryon ($\psi_D$) with branching fractions accessible at $B$ factories. We present a search for $B \rightarrow \Lambda \psi_D$ decays using data collected by the $BABAR$ experiment at SLAC. This reaction is identified by fully reconstructing the accompanying $B$ meson and requiring the presence of a single $\Lambda$ baryon in the remaining particles. No significant signal is observed, and bounds on the $B \rightarrow \Lambda \psi_D$ branching fraction are derived in the range $0.13 - 5.2\times 10^{-5}$ for $1.0 < m_{\psi_D} < 4.2$ GeV/$c^{2}$. These results set strong constraints on the parameter space allowed by the theory.

Abstract

We present a study of factors affecting the energy spread of ion beams extracted from a Charge Breeder Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (CB-ECRIS). The comprehensive simulations, supported by experiments with a Retarding Field Analyser (RFA), reveal that the longitudinal and transverse energy spread of the extracted beams are strongly affected by the electrostatic focusing effects, namely the extraction geometry and plasma beam boundary, to the extent that the electrostatic effects dominate over the magnetic field induced rotation of the beam or the effect of plasma potential and ion temperature. The dominance of the electrostatic focusing effect over the magnetic field induced rotation complicates parametric studies of the transverse emittance as a function of the magnetic field strength, and comparison of emittance values obtained with different ion sources having different extraction designs. Our results demonstrate that the full ion beam energy spread, relevant for the downstream accelerator, can be measured with the RFA only when all ions are collected. On the contrary, studying the effect of plasma properties (plasma potential and ion temperature) on the longitudinal energy spread requires heavy collimation of the beam accepting only ions near the symmetry axis of the beam for which the electrostatic and magnetic effects are suppressed. As the extraction system of the CB-ECRIS is similar to a conventional ECRIS, the conclusions of the study can be generalised to apply for all high charge state ECR ion sources. Finally, we present the results of systematic plasma potential measurements of the Phoenix-type CB-ECRIS at LPSC, varying the source potential, the microwave power and the axial magnetic field srength. It was observed that the plasma potential increases with the extraction magnetic field and the microwave power.

Abstract

The temporal and spatial evolution of dispersed media is a fundamental problem in a wide range of physicochemical systems, such as emulsions, suspensions and aerosols. These systems are multiphasic and involve compounds of different densities. They are therefore subject to the influence of gravity which determines the sedimentation rate of their dispersed phase. This effect can be dominant and prevent a detailed study of the phenomena occurring between the constituents themselves, such as the coalescence of drops in emulsions, the evaporation of droplets or the flocculation in suspensions. In this context, the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) has recently supported the development of a new instrument to produce populations of droplets, a few micrometers in radius, under controlled conditions with the objective of allowing a detailed study of their properties in microgravity conditions. The principle of this instrument is to generate, by a fast compression/expansion of air, populations of water droplets and to track their evolution by optical scanning tomography in transmission mode within a volume of approximately 2 mm3. Parabolic flight experiments have shown the possibility to generate and accurately follow the evolution of populations of several hundred droplets for more than 20 seconds. The first experimental results show that it is possible to study their evaporation kinetics or their motion when imposing Von Karman swirling flows. This work is part of the AEROSOL project of DECLIC-EVO supported by CNES and aims to help the understanding of cloud microphysics which remains a critical open problem in the context of global warming.

Abstract

Cold quantum gases, when acted upon by electromagnetic fields, can give rise to samples where isolated atoms coexist with dimers or trimers, which raises the question of the interactions between these various constituents. Here we perform microwave photoassociation in a degenerate gas of $^{87}$Rb atoms to create weakly-bound dimers in their electronic ground state. From the density-induced shift of the photoassociation line, we measure the atom-dimer scattering length for the two least-bound states of the molecular potential. We also determine the complete energy diagram of one hyperfine manifold of the least-bound state, which we accurately reproduce with a simple model.

Abstract Introduction In 2013, rituximab was approved in France for the treatment of ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV). The aim of the study was to compare the treatment and health events of adult incident patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), included before rituximab approval (over 2010–2012, Group 1) and those included after rituximab approval (over 2014–2017, Group 2). Method Data were extracted from the French National Health Insurance database (SNDS) including outpatient health care consumption and hospital discharge forms. Comparisons between inclusion periods were performed using Wilcoxon and χ² tests. Kaplan-Meier method was used to model the duration of treatment induction, maintenance, and off-drug periods. Fine and Gray tests were used to compare treatment phase durations. Results A total of 694 GPA and 283 MPA patients were included in Group 1, while 668 GPA and 463 MPA patients were included in Group 2. Between the two inclusion periods, the proportions of patients treated with rituximab increased in the induction and maintenance phases whereas treatment with azathioprine declined. These proportions remained stable in the case of methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, and glucocorticoid-treated patients. Frequency of first-time hospitalized infections, diabetes and renal failure during the first year after inclusion increased for both groups. Limitations of the study This is a retrospective study based on claims data including only 76% of people covered by health insurance in France. The period studied includes the learning phase of using rituximab. This study lacks biological data and precise quantitative analysis for the use of steroids, therefore the criteria for establishing diagnosis and therapeutic choice were unknown. Conclusions Introduction of rituximab reduced the use of azathioprine without affecting the use of glucocorticoids or cyclophosphamide.

Lupus nephritis (LN) diagnosis and follow-up requires noninvasive biomarkers. Therefore, the added value of coupling the urinary soluble (s)CD163/creatinuria ratio with serological markers was evaluated in a real-world clinical practice. To this end, a monocentric and retrospective study was conducted in 139 SLE patients with biopsy-proven nephritis having an active LN (LN-A, n = 63 with a positive SLEDAI-renal score) or inactive (n = 76), as well as 98 non-renal SLE patients. Abstract

Summary: Human genetic studies of critical COVID-19 pneumonia have revealed the essential role of type I interferon-dependent innate immunity to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conversely, an association between the HLA-B∗15:01 allele and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in unvaccinated individuals was recently reported, suggesting a contribution of pre-existing T cell-dependent adaptive immunity. We report a lack of association of classical HLA alleles, including HLA-B∗15:01, with pre-omicron asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in unvaccinated participants in a prospective population-based study in the United States (191 asymptomatic vs. 945 symptomatic COVID-19 cases). Moreover, we found no such association in the international COVID Human Genetic Effort cohort (206 asymptomatic vs. 574 mild or moderate COVID-19 cases and 1,625 severe or critical COVID-19 cases). Finally, in the Human Challenge Characterisation study, the three HLA-B∗15:01 individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 developed symptoms. As with other acute primary infections studied, no classical HLA alleles favoring an asymptomatic course of SARS-CoV-2 infection were identified.

Abstract

To address multiple issues impacting the climate imbalance, insects, and in particular Tenebrio molitor, represent now a promising alternative for producing high-quality protein products with low environmental impact. As with any new species farmed on an industrial scale, insect breeding production must be improved through the accumulation of knowledge on rearing techniques and genetic management. Little information on the inheritance of agronomically interesting traits, dedicated to Tenebrio molitor, is available. This study aims to decipher the genetic parameters (heritability and genetic correlations) of reproduction, larval growth and survival, pupation rate and developmental time from a reference population made up of 1 931 sib-groups reared under pedigree, in controlled and stable environments and generated with single pair mating. Considering all sib-groups, 29 599 offspring have been generated and phenotyped over four generations to support this study and provide enough data to estimate, under linear animal models, the additive genetic and common environmental effects. Phenotypic analyses underlined an important variability among sib-groups and individuals, as for the total oviposition during 4 weeks counting (0–680 eggs, min – max, respectively) or larval body mass 63 days posteclosion (36.3–206.8 mg, min – max, respectively). Moderate to important heritability values have been obtained and ranged from 0.17 to 0.54 for reproduction phenotypes, 0.10–0.44 for growth parameters, 0.06–0.22 for developmental time and 0.10–0.17 for larval survival rates. The proportion of phenotypic variance explained by the environmental part varyies from 0.10 to 0.36 for reproductive traits, from 0.17 to 0.38 for growth parameters, from 0.06 to 0.36 for developmental time and 0.17–0.22 for survival rates. Genetic correlations underline relationships among phenotypes such as the trade-off between developmental time from egg to pupae and pupae weight (r2 = 0.48 ± 0.06). These important phenotypic variations coupled with promising heritability values pave the road for future breeding programs in Tenebrio molitor.

Abstract

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based microgels are soft colloids undergoing a Volume Phase Transition (VPT) close to ambient temperature. Although widely employed for fundamental research and application purposes, the modifications of the microgel internal structure occurring at the VPT are not yet completely understood, especially concerning the role of electrostatics. Here we study in detail, both experimentally and numerically, the effect of the addition of acrylic acid (AAc) co-monomer on the microgel deswelling process. By combining viscosimetry, light scattering and electrophoresis, we show that the progressive addition of AAc increases the microgel mass and suppresses the occurrence of the VPT, progressively shifting the microgel collapse to higher temperatures. Most importantly, it also highly enhances the two-step deswelling of these submicron-sized networks, so that the inner core collapses at temperatures always lower than those marking the transition of the outer corona. These results indicate that a net increase of the charge density mismatch between the bulk and the surface of the microgels takes place. Numerical simulations fully confirm this scenario and clarify the impact of the charge distribution on the two-step deswelling, with mobile counterions efficiently screening the charges within the inner core, while leaving more monomers ionized on the surface. Abstract

The NEMO-3 results for the double-$\beta$ decay of $^{150}$Nd to the 0$^+_1$ and 2$^+_1$ excited states of $^{150}$Sm are reported. The data recorded during 5.25 yr with 36.6 g of the isotope $^{150}$Nd are used in the analysis. For the first time, the signal of the $2\nu\beta\beta$ transition to the 0$^+_1$ excited state is detected with a statistical significance exceeding 5$\sigma$. The half-life is measured to be $T_{1/2}^{2\nu\beta\beta}(0^+_1) = \left[ 1.11 ^{+0.19}_{-0.14} \,\left(\mbox{stat}\right) ^{+0.17}_{-0.15}\, \left(\mbox{syst}\right) \right] \times10^{20}\,\mbox{yr}$.
