Este estudo objetivo conhecer quais os aspectos sociodemográficos e ocupacionais que melhor predizem o bem-estar subjetivo de professores das escolas públicas e privadas do estado da Paraíba que estão cursando pedagogia em regime especial. Participaram 313 professores, que responderam a escala de afetos positivos e negativos, a escala de vitalidade, o questionário de saúde geral - QSG-12 e a escala de satisfação com a vida e perguntas socioocupacionais. Dentre os resultados encontrados, destacam-se o grau de satisfação no trabalho, o grau de percepção de reconhecimento da equipe escolar e dos pais dos alunos e estado civil como variáveis preditoras de bem-estar. Sugerem-se replicação do estudo com estudantes de pedagogia que não estejam realizando o curso em regime especial, e ainda, com professores já estabilizados no mercado de trabalho, com formação superior que não necessitem buscar um título para manter-se no emprego

Background: Influenza can be associated with nonrespiratory disease presentation, but these are less well documented due to the lack of routine testing for influenza in the healthcare system, especially if patients do not present with influenza‐like illness (ILI). We aimed to measure the proportion of influenza cases seeking care at emergency department (ED) for a nontraumatic cause, to describe their clinical presentation and their ED‐discharge diagnosis. Methods: The study was conducted at seven hospitals in France, Spain, Italy and Germany during the 2019–20 influenza season, for a period of 10 weeks. Patients (≥ 18 years) consulting for nontraumatic causes at the ED were invited to participate. Consenting patients provided upper respiratory swab samples for influenza testing by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Clinical and demographic data were collected. Results: There were 8678 patients included, 50.7% were female and the median age was 57 years. Among them, 494 (5.7%) were laboratory‐confirmed influenza (LCI) cases. Nonetheless, only 24.3% of LCI cases had an ED‐discharge of influenza. Of all cases confirmed as influenza, 47.6% had a nonrespiratory discharge diagnosis, which frequency increased with age. ILI case definition from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control was the most frequently met among influenza cases (68.6%). Older patients (≥ 65 years) were less frequently identified based on any ILI signs/symptoms. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the impact of influenza among patients seeking care at the ED cannot be easily assessed based on clinical presentation and medical records alone. BackgroundWe investigated the effect of influenza vaccination on disease severity in adults hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza during 2013-14, a season in which vaccine viruses were antigenically similar to those circulating.MethodsWe analyzed data from the 2013-14 influenza season and used propensity score matching to account for the probability of vaccination within age strata (18-49, 50-64, and ≥65 years). Death, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and hospital and ICU lengths of stay (LOS) were outcome measures for severity. Multivariable logistic regression and competing risk models were used to compare disease severity between vaccinated and unvaccinated patients, adjusting for timing of antiviral treatment and time from illness onset to hospitalization.ResultsInfluenza vaccination was associated with a reduction in the odds of in-hospital death among patients aged 18-49 years (adjusted odds ratios [aOR] = 0.21; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.05 to 0.97), 50-64 years (aOR = 0.48; 95% CI, 0.24 to 0.97), and ≥65 years (aOR = 0.39; 95% CI, 0.17 to 0.66). Vaccination also reduced ICU admission among patients aged 18-49 years (aOR = 0.63; 95% CI, 0.42 to 0.93) and ≥65 years (aOR = 0.63; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.81), and shortened ICU LOS among those 50-64 years (adjusted relative hazards [aRH] = 1.36; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.74) and ≥65 years (aRH = 1.34; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.73), and hospital LOS among 50-64 years (aRH = 1.13; 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.26) and ≥65 years (aRH = 1.24; 95% CI, 1.13 to 1.37).ConclusionsInfluenza vaccination during 2013-14 influenza season attenuated adverse outcome among adults that were hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza.

Background: Respiratory viruses are known to represent a high burden in winter, yet the seasonality of many viruses remains poorly understood. Better knowledge of co‐circulation and interaction between viruses is critical to prevention and management. We use > 10‐year active surveillance in the Valencia Region to assess seasonality and co‐circulation. Methods: Over 2010–2021, samples from patients hospitalised for acute respiratory illness were analysed using multiplex real‐time PCR to test for 9 viruses: influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza virus (PIV), rhino/enteroviruses (HRV/ENV), metapneumovirus (MPV), bocavirus, adenovirus, SARS‐CoV‐2 and non‐SARS coronaviruses (HCoV). Winter seasonal patterns of incidence were examined. Instances of co‐detection of multiple viruses in a sample were analysed and compared with expected values under a crude model of independent circulation. Results: Most viruses exhibited consistent patterns between years. Specifically, RSV and influenza seasons were clearly defined, peaking in December–February, as did HCoV and SARS‐CoV‐2. MPV, PIV and HRV/ENV showed less clear seasonality, with circulation outside the observed period. All viruses circulated in January, suggesting any pair had opportunity for co‐infection. Multiple viruses were found in 4% of patients, with more common co‐detection in children under 5 (9%) than older ages. Influenza co‐detection was generally observed infrequently relative to expectation, while RSV co‐detections were more common, particularly among young children. Conclusions: We identify characteristic patterns of viruses associated with acute respiratory hospitalisation during winter. Simultaneous circulation permits extensive co‐detection of viruses, particularly in young children. However, virus combinations appear to differ in their rates of co‐detection, meriting further study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Viral respiratory diseases place a heavy burden on the healthcare system, with children making up a significant portion of related hospitalizations. While comorbidities increase the risk of complications and poor outcomes, many hospitalized children lack clear risk factors. As new vaccines for respiratory viral diseases emerge, this study examined pediatric respiratory hospitalizations, focusing on viral etiology, complication rates, and the impact of comorbidities to guide future policy. Data were analyzed from eight pre-COVID influenza seasons (2011/2012–2018/2019) involving patients under 18 years hospitalized with respiratory complaints across 4–10 hospitals in Valencia, Spain. Respiratory specimens were tested for eight viral targets using multiplex real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Demographics, clinical outcomes, discharge diagnoses, and laboratory results were examined. Among the hospitalized children, 26% had at least one comorbidity. These children had higher rates of pneumonia, asthma exacerbation, and pneumothorax, and were twice as likely to require ICU admission, though mechanical ventilation and length of stay were similar to those without comorbidities. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was the most common virus detected (23.1%), followed by rhinovirus/enterovirus (9.5%) and influenza (7.2%). Viral codetection decreased with age, occurring in 4.6% of cases. Comorbidities increase the risk of complications in pediatric respiratory illnesses, however, healthcare utilization is driven largely by otherwise healthy children. ObjectiveTranscripts from admission chest radiographs could aid in identification of pneumonia cases for public health surveillance. We assessed the reliability of radiographic data abstraction and performance of radiographic key terms to identify pneumonia in patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection.MethodsWe used data on patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection from October 2008 through December 2009 from 10 geographically diverse U.S. study sites participating in the Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Network (FluSurv-NET). Radiographic key terms (i.e., bronchopneumonia, consolidation, infiltrate, airspace density, and pleural effusion) were abstracted from final impressions of chest radiograph reports. We assessed the reliability of radiographic data abstraction by examining the percent agreement and Cohen's k statistic between clinicians and surveillance staff members. Using a composite reference standard for presence or absence of pneumonia based on International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codes and discharge summary data, we calculated sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and percent agreement for individual and combined radiographic key terms.ResultsFor each radiographic key term, the percent agreement between clinicians and surveillance staff members ranged from 89.4% to 98.6% and Cohen's k ranged from 0.46 (moderate) to 0.84 (almost perfect). The combination of bronchopneumonia or consolidation or infiltrate or airspace density terms had sensitivity of 66.5%, specificity of 89.2%, PPV of 80.4%, and percent agreement of 80.1%. Adding pleural effusion did not result in significant changes in sensitivity, specificity, PPV, or percent agreement.ConclusionRadiographic key terms abstracted by surveillance staff members from final impressions of chest radiograph reports had moderate to almost perfect reliability and could be used to identify pneumonia among patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection. This method can inform pneumonia surveillance and aid in public health response.

BackgroundSome studies suggest that influenza vaccination might be protective against severe influenza outcomes in vaccinated persons who become infected. We used data from a large surveillance network to further investigate the effect of influenza vaccination on influenza severity in adults aged ≥50 years who were hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza.MethodsWe analyzed influenza vaccination and influenza severity using Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Network (FluSurv-NET) data for the 2012-2013 influenza season. Intensive care unit (ICU) admission, death, diagnosis of pneumonia, and hospital and ICU lengths of stay served as measures of disease severity. Data were analyzed by multivariable logistic regression, parametric survival models, and propensity score matching (PSM).ResultsOverall, no differences in severity were observed in the multivariable logistic regression model. Using PSM, adults aged 50-64 years (but not other age groups) who were vaccinated against influenza had a shorter length of ICU stay than those who were unvaccinated (hazard ratio for discharge, 1.84; 95% confidence interval, 1.12-3.01).ConclusionsOur findings show a modest effect of influenza vaccination on disease severity. Analysis of data from seasons with different predominant strains and higher estimates of vaccine effectiveness are needed.
