Search

A coherent electromagnetic field can be described by its amplitude, frequency, and phase. All these properties can influence the interaction between the field and an atom. Here we demonstrate the phase shaping of microwaves that are scattered by a superconducting artificial atom coupled to the end of a semi-infinite 1D transmission line. In particular, we input a weak exponentially rising pulse with phase modulation to a transmon qubit. We observe that field-atom interaction can be tuned from nearly full interaction (interaction efficiency, i.e., amount of the field energy interacting with the atom, of 94.5%) to effectively no interaction (interaction efficiency 3.5%).

We consider the dynamics and stationary regime of a capacitively-shunted transmon-type qubit in front of a mirror, affected by two signals: probe and dressing signals. By varying the parameters of these signals and then analyzing the probe signal (reflected by the atom-mirror system), it is possible to explore the system dynamics, which can be described by the Bloch equation. The obtained time-dependent occupation probabilities are related to the experimentally measured reflection coefficient. The study of this type of dynamics opens up new horizons for better understanding of the system properties and underlying physical processes, such as Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg-Majorana transitions.

High precision spectroscopy of the low-lying dielectronic resonances in fluorine-like nickel ions were determined by employing the merged electron-ion beam at the heavy-ion storage ring CSRm. The measured dielectronic resonances are identified by comparing with the most recent relativistic calculation utilizing the FAC code. The first resonance at about 86 meV due to the dielectronic recombination via (2s2p6[2S1/2]6s)J=1 intermediate state was recognized. The experimental determination of the resonance position at 86 meV reaches an uncertainty of 4 meV, which allows precise determination of the 2s22p5[2P3/2] - 2s2p6[2S1/2] transition energy. The Rydberg binding energy of the 6s electron in the (2s2p6[2S1/2]6s)J=1 state is calculated by the multi-configurational Dirac-HartreeFock and stabilization methods. The determined transition energies are 149.056(4)exp(10)theo and 149.032(4)exp(6)theo, respectively. Moreover, the transition energy has also been calculated by fully relativistic and ab initio approaches. Individual theoretical contributions are evaluated by employing the core-Hartree and Kohn-Sham screening potentials, respectively. High-order QED and correlation effects contribute prominently to the total transition energy. Remote collaboration tools for conferencing and presentation are gaining significant popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Most prior work has issues, such as a) limited support for media types, b) lack of interactivity, for example, an efficient replay mechanism, c) large bandwidth consumption for screen sharing tools. In this paper, we propose a general-purpose multimedia collaboration platform-CWcollab. It supports collaboration on general multimedia by using simple messages to represent media controls with an object-prioritized synchronization approach. Thus, CWcollab can not only support fine-grained accurate collaboration, but also rich functionalities such as replay of these collaboration events. The evaluation shows hundreds of kilobytes can be enough to store the events in a collaboration session for accurate replays, compared with hundreds of megabytes of Google Hangouts.

Regarding trapped-ion microwave-frequency standards, we report on the determination of hyperfine splittings and Land\'{e} $g_J$ factors of $^{111,113}$Cd$^+$. The hyperfine splittings of the $5p~^2P_{3/2}$ state of $^{111,113}$Cd$^+$ ions were measured using laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. The Cd$^+$ ions were confined in a linear Paul trap and sympathetically cooled by Ca$^+$ ions. Furthermore, the hyperfine splittings and Land\'{e} $g_J$ factors of the $5s~^2S_{1/2}$ and $5p~^2P_{1/2,3/2}$ levels of $^{111,113}$Cd$^+$ were calculated with greater accuracy using the multiconfiguration Dirac--Hartree--Fock scheme. The measured hyperfine splittings and the Dirac--Hartree--Fock calculation values were cross-checked, thereby further guaranteeing the reliability of our results. The results provided in this work can improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the clock transition and the accuracy of the second-order Zeeman shift correction, and subsequently the stability and accuracy of the microwave frequency standard based on trapped Cd$^+$ ions.

To provide spectroscopic data for lowly charged tungsten ions relevant to fusion research, this work focuses on the W8+ ion. Six visible spectra lines in the range of 420-660 nm are observed with a compact electron-beam ion trap in Shanghai. These lines are assigned to W8+ based on their intensity variations as increasing electron-beam energy and the M1 line from the ground configuration in W7+. Furthermore, transition energies are calculated for the 30 lowest levels of the 4f14 5s2 5p4, 4f13 5s2 5p5 and 4f12 5s2 5p6 configurations of W8+ by using the flexible atomic code (FAC) and GRASP package, respectively. Reasonably good agreement is found between our two independent atomic-structure calculations. The resulting atomic parameters are adopted to simulate the spectra based on the collisional-radiative model implemented in the FAC code. This assists us with identification of six strong M1 transitions in 4f13 5s2 5p5 and 4f12 5s2 5p6 configurations from our experiments

This paper shows that some of the limit-like quantities currently used in statistical mechanics are ill-defined in the mathematical sense. Using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and the relativistic configuration interaction methods, a consistent set of transition energies and radiative transition data for the main states of the $2s^2 2p^4$, $2s 2p^5$, $2p^6$, $2s^2 2p^3 3s$, $2s^2 2p^3 3p$, $2s^2 2p^3 3d$, $2s 2p^4 3s$, $2s 2p^4 3p$, and $2s 2p^4 3d$ configurations in O-like Ions between Ar XI ($Z = 18$) and Cr XVII ($Z = 24$) is provided. Our data set is compared with the NIST compiled values and previous calculations. The data are accurate enough for identification and deblending of new emission lines from hot astrophysical and laboratory plasmas. The amount of data of high accuracy is significantly increased for the $n = 3$ states of several O-like ions, where experimental data are very scarce.

Using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and the relativistic configuration interaction methods, a consistent set of transition energies and radiative transition data for the lowest 546 (623, 701, 745) states of the $3p^4 3d$, $3s 3p^2 3d^2$, $3s 3p^3 4p$, $3s 3p^4$, $3s^2 3d^3$, $3s^2 3p^2 3d$, $3s^2 3p^2 4d$, $3s^2 3p^2 4s$, $3p^3 3d^2$, $3p^5$, $3s 3p 3d^3$, $3s 3p^3 3d$, $3s 3p^3 4s$, $3s^2 3p 3d^2$, %$3s^2 3p^2 4f$, $3s^2 3p^2 4p$, $3s^2 3p^3$ configurations in Mn~XI (Fe~XII, Co~XIII, Ni~XIV) is provided. The comparison between calculated excitation energies for the $n=4$ states and available experimental values for Fe XII indicate that the calculations are highly accurate, with uncertainties of only a few hundred cm$^{-1}$. Lines from these states are prominent in the soft X-rays. With the present calculations, several recent new identifications are confirmed. Other identifications involving $3p^2 4d$ levels in Fe~XII that were found questionable are discussed and a few new assignments are recommended. As some $n=4$ states of the other ions also show large discrepancies between experimental and calculated energies, we reassess their identification. The present study provides highly accurate atomic data for the $n=4$ states of P-like ions of astrophysical interest, for which experimental data are scarce.

We use the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method combined with the relativistic configuration interaction (RCI) approach (GRASP2K) to provide a consistent set of transition energies and radiative transition data for the lower $n =3$ states in all Cl-like ions of astrophysical importance, from \ion{Cr}{8} to \ion{Zn}{14}. We also provide excitation energies calculated for \mbox{Fe X} using the many-body perturbation theory (MBPT, implemented within FAC). The comparison of the present MCDHF results with MBPT and with the available experimental energies indicates that the theoretical excitation energies are highly accurate, with uncertainties of only a few hundred cm$^{-1}$. Detailed comparisons for Fe~X and Ni~XII highlight discrepancies in the experimental energies found in the literature. Several new identifications are proposed.
