Abstract

With the rise of modern healthcare monitoring, heart rate (HR) estimation using remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) has gained attention for its non-contact, continuous tracking capabilities. However, most HR estimation methods rely on stable, fixed sampling intervals, while practical image capture often involves irregular frame rates and missing data, leading to inaccuracies in HR measurements. This study addresses these issues by introducing low-complexity timing correction methods, including linear, cubic, and filter interpolation, to improve HR estimation from rPPG signals under conditions of irregular sampling and data loss. Through a comparative analysis, this study offers insights into efficient timing correction techniques for enhancing HR estimation from rPPG, particularly suitable for edge-computing applications where low computational complexity is essential. Cubic interpolation can provide robust performance in reconstructing signals but requires higher computational resources, while linear and filter interpolation offer more efficient solutions. The proposed low-complexity timing correction methods improve the reliability of rPPG-based HR estimation, making it a more robust solution for real-world healthcare applications. Abstract

Terpenoid cyclases (TCs) account for the synthesis of the most widespread and diverse natural compounds. A sesquiterpene cyclase termed BcABA3 from an abscisic acid-producing fungus Botrytis cinerea that yields (2Z,4E)-α-ionylideneethane but lacks signature feature of canonical TCs represents a distinct type of TCs. Here, we report the crystal structures of BcABA3, a closely related RuABA3 from Rutstroemia sp. and a bacterial SkABA3 from Shimazuella kribbensis. These ABA3 proteins adopt an all-α-helix fold and bind pyrophosphate moiety of farnesyl pyrophosphate by Glu-chelated Mg2+ ion cluster. We conduct mutagenesis experiments to validate the role of the substrate-binding residues. SkABA3 appears to yield compounds that are distinct from (2Z,4E)-α-ionylideneethane. These results not only provide the molecular insight into ABA3 proteins that serve as an important basis to the future investigation of this class of TCs, but also reveal the existence of more uncharacterized terpenoids synthesized via dedicated machineries. BcABA3 catalyzes farnesyl pyrophosphate cyclization but lacks features to be recognized as a terpene cyclase. 40. Magnetic MoS2 Interface Monolayer on CdS Nanowire by Cation Exchange

Abstract

MoS2 atomic layers have recently attracted much interest because of their two-dimensional structure as well as tunable optical, electrical, and mechanical properties for next generation electronic and electro-optical devices. Here we have achieved facile fabrication of MoS2 thin films on CdS nanowires by cation exchange in solution at room temperature and importantly observed their extraordinary magnetic properties. We establish the atomic structure of the MoS2/CdS heterostructure by taking atomic images of the MoS2/CdS interface as well as performing first-principles density functional geometry optimizations and STEM-ADF image simulations. Furthermore, our first principles density functional calculations for the MoS2/CdS heterostructure reveal that the magnetism in the MoS2/CdS heterostructure stems from the ferromagnetic MoS2 monolayer next to the MoS2/CdS interface. The ferromagnetism is attributed to the partial occupation of the Mo dx2-y2/dxy conduction band in the interfacial MoS2 monolayer caused by the mixed covalent-ionic bonding among the MoS2 and CdS monolayers near the MoS2/CdS interface. The present findings of the ferromagnetic MoS2 monolayer with large spin polarization at the MoS2-semiconductor interface suggest a new route for fabrication of the transition metal dichalcogenide-based magnetic semiconductor multilayers for applications in spintronic devices.
