[Display omitted] Developing effective adsorbents for uranium extraction from natural seawater is strategically significant for the sustainable fuel supply of nuclear energy. Herein, stable and low-cost supramolecular complexes (PA-bPEI complexes) were facilely constructed through the assembly of phytic acid and hyperbranched polyethyleneimine based on the multiple modes of electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding. The PA-bPEI complexes exhibited not only high uptake (841.7 mg g−1) and selectivity (uranium/vanadium selectivity = 84.1) toward uranium but also good antibacterial ability against biofouling. Mechanism analysis revealed that phosphate chelating groups and amine assistant groups coordinated the uranyl ions together with a high affinity. To be more suitable for practical applications, powdery PA-bPEI complexes were compounded with sodium alginate to fabricate various macroscopic adsorbents with engineered forms, which achieved an extraction capacity of 9.0 mg g−1 in natural seawater after 50 days of testing. Impressively, the estimated economic cost of the macroscopic adsorbent for uranium extraction from seawater ($96.5 ∼ 138.1 kg−1 uranium) was lower than that of all currently available uranium adsorbents. Capacitive deionization (CDI) technology holds great potential for rapid and efficient uranyl ion removal from wastewater. However, the related electrode materials still have much room for research. Herein, chitosan/phytic acid complexes were anchored on polypyrrole nanotubes (CS/PA-PPy) to fabricate the electrode for the electrosorption of uranyl ions (UO 2 2+). In this system, polypyrrole nanotubes provided specific channels for ion and electron diffusion, and chitosan/phytic acid complexes offered selective sites for UO 2 2+ binding. The results demonstrated that CS/PA-PPy via electrosorption showed faster kinetics and higher uranium uptake than those via physicochemical adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity toward UO 2 2+ via electrosorption (1.2 V) could reach 799.3 mg g−1, which was higher than most of the reported CDI electrodes. Electrochemical measurements and experimental characterizations showed that the electrosorption of UO 2 2+ by CS/PA-PPy was a synergistic effect of capacitive process and physicochemical adsorption, in which the capacitive mechanism involved the formation of an electric double layer from hollow polypyrrole nanotubes, whereas the coordination of phosphate, amino and hydroxyl groups with UO 2 2+ was attributed to physicochemical adsorption. With the rational design of material, along with its excellent uranium removal performance, this work exhibited a novel and potential composite electrode for uranium capture via CDI from wastewater. Removal of radioactive technetium‐99 (99TcO4−) from water by effective adsorbents is highly desired but remains a challenge. The currently used resin adsorbents possess several obstacles, such as slow adsorption kinetics and low adsorption capacity. To address these issues, herein a type of fibrous adsorbent with porosity and hyper‐branched quaternary ammonium groups, namely porous cationic electrospun fibers (PCE fibers), is successfully prepared. PCE fibers can remove 97% of 99TcO4− within 1 min and the equilibrium time of 99% removal is 20 min. The predicted maximum adsorption capacity toward the surrogate ReO4− can reach 826 mg g−1, which is higher than the state of art anion‐exchange resins and most of the other reported adsorbents. Furthermore, PCE fibers have good selectivity for ReO4− in the presence of competitive anions, and can retain ReO4− uptake under extreme conditions including high acid–base and gamma irradiation. Importantly, PCE fibrous adsorptive membrane is employed for dynamic ReO4− removal from simulated Hanford LAW stream with a processing capacity of 600 kg simulated stream per kilogram PCE fibers. Efficient adsorbents for excess bilirubin removal are extremely important for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia. However, traditional adsorbents, such as activated carbons and ion-exchange resins, still suffer from dissatisfactory adsorption performance and poor blood compatibility. Herein, we adopted a rational design strategy guided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations to prepare blood-compatible quaternary ammonium group grafted electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofiber adsorbents. The calculation analysis and adsorption experiments were used to investigate the structure–function relationship between group types and bilirubin adsorption, both indicating that quaternary ammonium groups with suitable configurations played a crucial role in bilirubin binding. The obtained nanofiber adsorbents showed the bilirubin removal efficiency above 90% even at a coexisting BSA concentration of 50 g L−1. The maximum adsorption capacities were 818.9 mg g−1 in free bilirubin solution and 163.7 mg g−1 in albumin bound bilirubin solution. The nanofiber adsorbents also showed considerable bilirubin removal in dynamic adsorption to reduce the bilirubin concentration to a normal level, which was better than commercial activated carbons. Our study demonstrates the high feasibility of a theory-driven design method for the development of grafted electrospun nanofibers, which have good potential as bilirubin adsorbents in hemoperfusion applications. Combining adsorption with other technologies holds great potential in fast and deep arsenic ion removal. Herein, chitosan‑zirconium composite adsorptive membranes (CS-Zr CM) were successfully prepared using simple casting and sodium hydroxide coagulation strategies, which was demonstrated the use in arsenic ion-capture electrodialysis based on their good adsorption performance. In the batch adsorption tests, the maximum adsorption capacities of CS-Zr CM for As(III) and As(V) were 134.2 mg/g and 119.5 mg/g, respectively. CS-Zr CM also exhibited satisfying adsorption selectivity and good reusability toward As(III) and As(V). However, the adsorption kinetics showed that they needed 48 h to reach the adsorption equilibrium and the adsorption ability toward trace arsenic ion was ineffective. Furthermore, CS-Zr CM was applied as the adsorptive membrane in the electrodialysis process. Under the influence of electric field, the As(III) and As(V) removal equilibrium time was shortened to 12 h and the concentrations of As(III) and As(V) ions could be efficiently reduced to below the WHO limit in drinking water (10 μg/L), which far surpassed the physicochemical adsorption method. Such good arsenic ion removal ability of CS-Zr CM together with the ease scalable fabrication, low cost, and biodegradable properties shows its huge prospects in arsenic-containing wastewater treatment. Uranium extraction from natural seawater is critical to addressing the shortage of uranium resources, but it is a giant challenge. The amidoxime-based adsorbent is regarded as one of the most promising materials for uranium capture, whereas still suffers from low adsorption site utilization and poor selectivity toward U(VI) against V(V). Herein, hyperbranched amidoxime group grafted photothermal electrospun fibers (AOPEI-C-PAN fibers) were reported for highly efficient uranium extraction from seawater. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were blended into the electrospun fibers to introduce the photothermal character. Hyperbranched grafting could improve the content of the amidoxime group and bring an assistant group (the amine group). Owing to the large content of functional groups, synergetic coordination interaction and photothermal conversion ability, the novel fiber adsorbents realized a fast adsorption rate (shortening the equilibrium time to 36 h from 60 h compared with the dark condition), high uranium uptake (1738.5 mg g−1 from the Langmuir model) from the uranium spiked seawater and excellent selectivity in U/V binary system (selectivity coefficient = 85.8). Furthermore, Ag nanoparticles could also be loaded onto the CNTs to endow the fibers with antibacterial activity, thereby preventing biofouling. As a result, the uranium extraction capacity of the fiber adsorbent reached 9.54 mg g−1 after 28 days' simulated sunlight irradiation of contact with circular seawater, which is 62.0 % higher than that under dark condition. The development of efficient adsorbents with anti-biofouling properties for uranium extraction from seawater is highly attractive to meet the growing demands for energy. However, traditional fiber adsorbents still suffer from the challenge of weak binding energy, low functional group density, and inefficient antifouling ability. Herein, inspired by the structures of phospholipid, the bio-inspired zwitterionic phosphate groups were created onto the electrospun nanofibers to manipulate the affinity with uranium and the anti-biofouling property. Additionally, hyperbranched grafting reaction together with thin diameters of the fibers were applied to significantly improve the available density of functional groups. The constructed hyperbranched zwitterionic phosphate groups functionalized nanofiber adsorbents (ZP-PAN fibers) exhibited high distribution coefficient k d (7.38 × 106 mL/g) and large adsorption capacity (1294.0 mg g−1) in the uranium-spiked seawater, surpassing most of reported polymeric adsorbents. ZP-PAN fibers also showed good selectivity against competitive cations and stable reusability. Owing to their zwitterionic structures, ZP-PAN fibers had satisfactory anti-adhesive ability toward bacteria and protein. Consequently, the uranium could be effectively extracted by ZP-PAN fibers from natural seawater with the extraction capacity of 8.1 mg g−1 after contacting with seawater for 15 days. Developing cationic adsorbents for efficient radioactive pertechnetate (99TcO 4 −) removal from water is of great significance in both nuclear fuel management and nuclear-related environmental treatment fields. However, tremendous efforts should be taken to improve the comprehensive performance of the adsorbent materials. Herein, novel cationic electrospun nanofibers were synthesized via the blending electrospinning from the branched polyethylenimine based solution and the following quaternization reaction by benzyl bromide. Consequently, abundant specific anion traps with hydrophobic microenvironment were constructed on the fibers. The obtained fiber adsorbents were systematically investigated to remove perrhenate (ReO 4 −) ions (the nonradioactive surrogate for TcO 4 −), which exhibit satisfying adsorption performance in several aspects: high adsorption capacity (943 mg g−1), fast kinetics (30 min), good removal depth (distribution coefficient = 1.1 × 106 mL g−1), large dynamic column adsorption volume (1540 bed volume), and excellent ReO 4 − capture from solution with high ionic strength or acidity/alkalinity. The adsorption performance surpassed all macroscopic shapeable adsorbents and many powdery advanced porous materials, owing to their abundant adsorption sites, tailored anion traps and macroscopic fibrous structures. Heterogeneous peroxymonosulfate (PMS) based advanced oxidation process has been proven as a promising method for tetracycline removal from water. Among the heterogeneous catalysts, Co based metal–organic framework (ZIF-67) is a good candidate to activate PMS in the aforementioned advanced oxidation system. However, their high metal ion leaching and fine powder form limit their practical application. Herein, zeolite bead-supported ZIF-67 was prepared through the Co ion-exchange and organic ligand reaction, which is simple, cost-efficient and recyclable. The obtained zeolite@ZIF-67 composites were employed for PMS activation to degrade tetracycline in the water. The uniform ZIF-67 loading could provide abundant catalytic sites and the results demonstrated that 93.7% of tetracycline (50 mg/L) could be removed in 60 min with high recycling stability. Intriguingly, due to the strong metal-support interaction, the Co ion leaching from the composite beads during the degradation reaction was much lower compared to pure ZIF-67 particles. In addition, zeolite@ZIF-67 composites with the microsphere form could be easily packed into the bed column to effectively remove tetracycline in a continuous flow process. The degradable mechanism and degradation pathway were comprehensively investigated by quenching experiments, electron paramagnetic resonance spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy. Abstract The angle-dependent sensitivity of rotationally symmetric thick pinholes used for gamma imaging was investigated using a geometric algorithm and Monte Carlo numerical simulations for the thick pinholes with different structural parameters. The effect of the pinhole diameter, the thickness of the straight-hole portion, and the half conical angle were analyzed. The point source was demonstrated to be a feasible replacement for the homogeneous plane source through theoretical deduction, numerical calculations, and experimental measurements of the angle-dependent sensitivity. A small quasi-point source was established based on a 10K curie level 60Co gamma ray source in the experimental measurement of the angle-dependent sensitivity. The image position remained unchanged and image distortion was avoided by rotating the thick pinhole around the pinhole center. A geometrical optimization method based on the multi-element model is developed for electromagnetic implosion of quasi-spherical wire-array loads. The shapes of the initial quasi-spherical wire arrays are described with the parabolic formation, and the shapes of the final plasma shells are estimated with the multipole expansion method. By scanning the aspect ratios of the initial loads, we can obtain the most nearly-spherical final plasma shell with certain mean radius, i.e. the shell has the smallest quadrupole and hexadecapole deformation. As a typical case, starting with the preshaped cylindrical load (with height of 15.4 mm and with diameter of 8 mm), the imploding plasma shell with mean radius of 1.5 mm is almost spherical when the initial aspect ratio takes the value of 1.089, and the results is consistent with the synchronization analysis. The optimization calculations for different current waveforms and different initial load masses indicate that the shape of the optimized plasma shell is not sensitive to the drive current and load mass. Ablation processes of ribbon-array loads, as well as wire-array loads for comparison, were investigated on Qiangguang-1 accelerator. The ultraviolet framing images indicate that the ribbon-array loads have stable passages of currents, which produce axially uniform ablated plasma. The end-on x-ray framing camera observed the azimuthally modulated distribution of the early ablated ribbon-array plasma and the shrink process of the x-ray radiation region. Magnetic probes measured the total and precursor currents of ribbon-array and wire-array loads, and there exists no evident difference between the precursor currents of the two types of loads. The proportion of the precursor current to the total current is 15% to 20%, and the start time of the precursor current is about 25 ns later than that of the total current. The melting time of the load material is about 16 ns, when the inward drift velocity of the ablated plasma is taken to be 1.5 × 107 cm/s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
