Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), an important gas signal molecule, participates in intercellular signal transmission and plays a considerable role in physiology and pathology. However, in-situ monitoring of H 2 S level during the processes of material transport between cells remains considerably challenging. Herein, a cell membrane-targeted surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobe was designed to quantitatively detect H 2 S secreted from living cells. The nanoprobes were fabricated by assembling cholesterol-functionalized DNA strands and dithiobis(phenylazide) (DTBPA) molecules on core-shell gold nanostars embedded with 4-mercaptoacetonitrile (4-MBN) (AuNPs@4-MBN@Au). Thus, three functions including cell-membrane targeted via cholesterol, internal standard calibration, and responsiveness to H 2 S through reduction of azide group in DTBPA molecules were integrated into the nanoprobes. In addition, the nanoprobes can quickly respond to H 2 S within 90 s and sensitively, selectively, and reliably detect H 2 S with a limit of detection as low as 37 nM due to internal standard-assisted calibration and reaction specificity. Moreover, the nanoprobes can effectively target on cell membrane and realize SERS visualization of dynamic H 2 S released from HeLa cells. By employing the proposed approach, an intriguing phenomenon was observed: the other two major endogenous gas transmitters, carbon monoxide (CO) and nitric oxide (NO), exhibited opposite effect on H 2 S production in living cells stimulated by related gas release molecules. In particular, the introduction of CO inhibited the generation of H 2 S in HeLa cells, while NO promoted its output. Inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPase) plays significant roles in diverse pathophysiological processes, therefore, developing a reliable method to measure PPase activity is crucial for the early diagnosis of the related diseases. In this work, a novel platform with single-particle dark-field microscopy (DFM), consisting of core gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), satellite AuNPs, pyrophosphate ions (PPi), copper ions (Cu2+), and sodium ascorbate (NaAsc), is designed for the selective and sensitive analysis of PPase according to a click reaction. After the introduction of PPase, the coordination between PPi and Cu2+ can be destroyed by catalyzing the hydrolysis of PPi to release free Cu2+ which can be reduced by NaAsc to produce cuprous ions (Cu+). Then the formed Cu+ promotes the click reaction between azide-modified core AuNPs and alkynyl-modified satellite AuNPs to cause the significant redshift of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) spectra of core AuNPs. Thus, PPase can be ultra-sensitively detected with a low detection limit of 0.003 U/L in a wide linear range from 0.01 to 1 U/L. This click reaction-based DFM technique can also be used to assess PPase inhibition, which suggests that it has a lot of potential for both the screening of PPase inhibitors and the diagnosis of PPase-related disorders. A new semi-quantum secure direct communication (SQSDC) protocol based on four-particle cluster states is designed. Different from the existing SQSDC protocols, this semi-quantum secure direct communication protocol includes two classical senders and one quantum receiver. The designed SQSDC protocol promises higher qubit efficiency than the previous SQSDC protocols by adopting the property of the four-particle cluster state to implement encoding operations. Moreover, the security of the proposed protocol under some common eavesdropping attacks is validated. A new quantum private comparison protocol with four-particle GHZ states is proposed. Unlike most previous quantum private comparison protocols, this quantum private comparison protocol can compare the equality of three information bits in each comparison, which could greatly reduce the times of comparisons. The private input of either party will not be leaked out to others, including participants. Besides, it's simple to implement the protocol with current technologies since only single-particle measurements and Bell measurements are involved. A semi-quantum bi-signature scheme based on W states is designed, in which two signers sign the same message. The unconditional security of the new semi-quantum bi-signature scheme is guaranteed with the teleportation of W states and semi-quantum key distribution (SQKD) protocol. Here we present a novel kind of reaction-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobes, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) modified with synthesized 2-mercapto-4-methoxy-phenol (MMP) and 4-mercaptophenyl boronic acid pinacol ester (MBAPE), to synchronously detect HOCl and ONOO− in single living cells. Taking advantage of narrow SERS peaks for spectral multiplexing, the simultaneous detection is accomplished with the SERS variation of AuNPs/MMP/MBAPE nanoprobes caused by the respective reaction of MMP and MBAPE bonded on AuNPs with HOCl and ONOO−. The AuNPs/MMP/MBAPE nanoprobes demonstrate a less than 1 min response to HOCl and ONOO− with a sensitivity at 10−7 M level. The presented nanoprobes also have high selectivity for HOCl and ONOO− respectively, resulting from SERS fingerprinting coupling with reaction specificity. A significant aspect of quantum cryptography is quantum key agreement (QKA), which ensures the security of key agreement protocols by quantum information theory. The fairness of an absolute security multi-party quantum key agreement (MQKA) protocol demands that all participants can affect the protocol result equally so as to establish a shared key and that nobody can determine the shared key by himself/herself. We found that it is difficult for the existing multi-party quantum key agreement protocol to withstand the collusion attacks. Put differently, it is possible for several cooperated and untruthful participants to determine the final key without being detected. To address this issue, based on the entanglement swapping between G-like state and Bell states, a new multi-party quantum key agreement protocol is put forward. The proposed protocol makes full use of EPR pairs as quantum resources, and adopts Bell measurement and unitary operation to share a secret key. Besides, the proposed protocol is fair, secure and efficient without involving a third party quantum center. It demonstrates that the protocol is capable of protecting users’ privacy and meeting the requirement of fairness. Moreover, it is feasible to carry out the protocol with existing technologies. Based on the four-dimensional layered quantum states and the delegating quantum computation (DQC) model, a new quantum private comparison (QPC) protocol is designed to compare private information between two participants with the help of a semi-honest third party (TP). The TP may misbehave on his own, though he enables to perform the protocol loyally. Benefiting from the properties of 4D layered quantum states in quantum secure communication, the QPC protocol performs the comparison of secrets better. The proposed QPC protocol based on a DQC scheme can be realized by the participants with insufficient capacity. The security of the proposed protocol is ensured by the usage of decoy photons and location obfuscation technique of sequences. The correctness of the proposed protocol is validated by simulations on the IBM's qiskit. The performance of the protocol against the external and internal attacks is also analyzed. Abstract: Modulation instability of an intense right-hand elliptically polarized laser beam propagating through an electron–positron plasma is investigated by a new method. The nonlinear dispersion relation, in which the relativistic and ponderomotive nonlinearities are taken into account, is obtained for the laser radiation in electron–positron plasma by the Lorentz transformation. The Karpman equation is generalized to the case of three dimensions with three field components. When the nonlinear frequency shift of the electromagnetic field in plasma is involved, the nonlinear evolution equation for the slowly varying envelope of the laser field is obtained. Thus, modulation instability of the intense laser beam in electron–positron plasma is studied and the temporal growth rate of the instability is derived. The analysis shows that the growth rate of modulation instability is increased significantly near the critical surface in a laser-plasma. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Intracellular glucose detection is crucial due to its pivotal role in metabolism and various physiological processes. Precise glucose monitoring holds significance in diabetes management, metabolic studies, and biotechnological applications. In this study, we developed an innovative and expedient cell-permeable nanoreactor for intracellular glucose based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The nanoreactor was designed with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), which were engineered with glucose oxide (GOx) and a H 2 O 2 -responsive Raman reporter 2-mercaptohydroquinone (2-MHQ). The interaction between 2-MHQ and H 2 O 2 generated by glucose and GOx could simultaneously induce the appearance in the peak at 985 cm−1. Our results showed excellent performance in detecting glucose within the concentration range from 0.1 μM to 10 mM, with a low detection limitation of 14.72 nM. In addition, the glucose distribution in single HeLa cells was evaluated by real time SERS mapping. By combining noble metal particles and natural oxidases, the nanoreactor possesses both Raman activity and enzymatic functionality, thus enables sensitive glucose detection and facilitates imaging at a single cell level, which offers an insightful monitoring of cellular processes. Background: To compare the prognostic value of 7th and 8th editions of the Union for International Cancer Control/American Joint Committee on Cancer (UICC/AJCC) staging system for patients with nonmetastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy and simultaneous integrated boost- intensity-modulated radiation therapy (SIB-IMRT).Methods: Patients with NPC (n = 300) who received SIB-IMRT were included. Survival by T-classification, N-classification, and stage group of each staging system was assessed.Results: For T-classification, nonsignificant difference was observed between T1 and T3 and between T2 and T3 disease (P = 0.066 and 0.106, respectively) for overall survival (OS) in the 7th staging system, whereas all these differences were significant in the 8th staging system (all P < 0.05). The survival curves for disease-free survival (DFS) and locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS) in both staging systems were similar, except for the comparison of T2 and T4 disease for LRRFS (P = 0.070 for 7th edition; P = 0.011 for 8th edition). For N-classification, significant differences were observed between N2 and N3 diseases after revision (P = 0.046 and P = 0.043 for OS and DFS, respectively). For staging system, no significant difference was observed between IVA and IVB of 7th edition.Conclusion: The 8th AJCC staging system appeared to have superior prognosis value in the SIB-IMRT era compared with the 7th edition. A surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) based nanoprobe was developed for detection and imaging of endogenous peroxynitrite in living cells. The probe was fabricated by assembling 3-mercaptophenylboronic acid pinacol ester onto the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The detection of peroxynitrite is accomplished via measurement of the changes in the SERS spectra (at 882 cm−1) that are caused by the reaction between probe and peroxynitrite. The probe has a fast response (<30 s), a 0.4 μM lower detection limit and a wide linearity range from 5.0 × 10−7 to 1.0 × 10−4 M. It is biocompatible and highly stable on storage and under various pH conditions. Both the reaction and the SERS signal are highly specific over other species. The nanoprobe was successfully applied to SERS imaging of peroxynitrite that is produced in macrophages under oxidative stress. A three-party quantum key injection scheme based on quantum entanglement correlation and local operation of W states is proposed, and a detailed security analysis is provided. As a complete method of entanglement channel key injection, this scheme encodes the key information in W state, which travels more stably in a quantum channel. The measurement result can be modified with a correction scheme or the Mod-2 operation after measuring the particles in quantum registers with Z basis, so that the two receivers will obtain the same key. This scheme is based on the entanglement correlation of the state to carry out the security detection of the key, so the key injector cannot obtain any information about the key, which is of great significance in the field of key management. The abnormal change in the expression profile of multiple cancer biomarkers is closely related to tumor progression and therapeutic effect. Due to their low abundance in living cells and the limitations of existing imaging techniques, simultaneous imaging of multiple cancer biomarkers has remained a significant challenge. Here, we proposed a multi-modal imaging strategy to detect the correlated expression of multiple cancer biomarkers, MUC1, microRNA-21 (miRNA-21) and reactive oxygen (ROS) in living cells, based on a porous covalent organic framework (COF) wrapped gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) core-shell nanoprobe. The nanoprobe is functionalized with Cy5-labeled MUC1 aptamer, a ROS-responsive molecule (2-MHQ), and a miRNA-21-response hairpin DNA tagged by FITC as the reporters for different biomarkers. The target-specific recognition can induce the orthogonal molecular change of these reporters, producing fluorescence and Raman signals for imaging the expression profiles of membrane MUC1 (red fluorescence channel), intracellular miRNA-21 (green fluorescence channel), and intracellular ROS (SERS channel). We further demonstrate the capability of the cooperative expression of these biomarkers, along with the activation of NF-κB pathway. This paper proposes a new private comparison protocol based on four-dimensional three-particle GHZ-like states. The QPC protocol allows two participants with limited quantum abilities to compare their private information whether they are equal or not with the help of a semi-honest third party. The semi-honest third party means that it may be unfaithful on his own behavior, though it will execute the protocol loyally. The presented QPC protocol not only reduces the requirement on quantum operations without involving the unitary operation, but it also requires only the single-particle measurement. The quantum circuit of the six-qubit state and the measurement results are presented under the IBM Quantum Experimental platform. The correctness and the effectiveness of the suggested protocol are illustrated with some examples. Secure and fair multiparty quantum key agreement protocols demand all participants influence and negotiate the shared secret key with equal right and nobody can determine the shared secret key only by himself. To ensure the security and high efficiency, a novel multiparty quantum key agreement protocol based on entanglement swapping between Bell states and G-like states is proposed. This protocol makes full use of Bell states and G-like states as quantum resources and utilizes Bell measurement, Z-basis measurement and unitary operations to generate the shared secret key. It demonstrates that this proposed multiparty quantum key agreement protocol is secure and fair, and simpler with higher efficiency than some other protocols, especially when the number of participants in the protocol is big enough. A theoretical quantum key distribution scheme based on random hybrid quantum channel with EPR pairs and GHZ states is devised. In this scheme, EPR pairs and tripartite GHZ states are exploited to set up random hybrid quantum channel. Only one photon in each entangled state is necessary to run forth and back in the channel. The security of the quantum key distribution scheme is guaranteed by more than one round of eavesdropping check procedures. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex disease with unclear etiology. Studies have shown that ferroptosis is also related to ASD progression, but the specific mechanism is still unclear. Valproic acid (VPA) induced neuronal ferroptosis in vitro. Mechanistic studies showed that both VPA and ferroptosis inducers promoted the expression of DDIT4 in neurons, thereby inhibiting the activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway. DDIT4 increased the accumulation of ROS, MDA and Fe2+, inhibited neuronal viability and downregulated GPX4 expression by inactivating the PI3K/Akt pathway. Ferroptosis inhibitors reversed the anti-survival effect of DDIT4, indicating that DDIT4 enhances ferroptosis through the PI3K/Akt pathway, thereby inhibiting neuronal viability. Further in vivo experiments found that autistic mice had high levels of ROS, MDA and Fe2+, increased DDIT4 expression, and downregulated expression levels of GPX4, p-PI3K and p-Akt; after downregulation of DDIT4 expression, the accumulation of ROS, MDA and Fe2+ was significantly reduced, while the expression levels of GPX4, p-PI3K and p-Akt were upregulated, indicating that DDIT4 knockdown reduces ferroptosis in autistic mice. In addition, DDIT4 downregulation, PI3K/Akt pathway activation, and ferroptosis inhibitors all improved social behavior deficits, repetitive stereotyped and compulsive behaviors, anxiety and exploratory behaviors in autistic mice, but PI3K/Akt pathway inhibitors significantly blocked the rescue of abnormal behaviors by DDIT4 downregulation in autistic mice. Therefore, downregulation of DDIT4 expression ameliorates abnormal behaviors in autism by inhibiting ferroptosis via the PI3K/Akt pathway, indicating that DDIT4, the PI3K/Akt pathway and ferroptosis have key roles in autism. • VPA induces DDIT4 expression to promote neuronal ferroptosis. • VPA promotes neuronal ferroptosis through the DDIT4/PI3K/Akt pathway. • Downregulation of DDIT4 expression activates the PI3K/Akt pathway to alleviate ferroptosis in autistic mice. • The DDIT4/PI3K/Akt pathway regulates ferroptosis to affect abnormal behaviors in autistic mice. A new two-party semi-quantum key agreement protocol is proposed with the four-particle χ-type entanglement states. In this protocol, the shared secret key is generated by using Bell measurement, Z-basis measurement, sequence replacement operations and unitary operations. The one-way semi-quantum key agreement protocol can resist the Trojan horse attack naturally and both participant attack and external one. Compared with other similar two-party quantum key agreement protocols, the presented protocol is relatively efficient since the random collapse of quantum entanglement states reduces the requirement on quantum operations, without involving the four-qubit joint measurements. The emergence of the semi-quantum concept makes it possible for people without quantum capabilities to communicate securely. An offline arbitrated semi-quantum signature scheme based on four-particle cluster states is put forward, in which two classical parties could complete the signature with the assistance of the quantum arbitrator. Different from the typical arbitrated quantum signature schemes, the arbitrator in our protocol acts as a relay station for delivering signature and no longer intervenes in the direct authentication of signature, leaving the signature receiver with full authentication rights. There is no additional direct communication between the signer and the receiver, which reduces the complexity of transmission. A new three-party quantum key agreement protocol based on seven-qubit states is proposed. In this protocol, each participant adopts different encryption methods to transmit a secret key of the same length. Subsequently, the participants utilize joint measurement to gain the ultimate shared secret key. No participant can determine the ultimate shared key by himself/herself. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), as an important reactive oxygen species (ROS), is involved with many pathological and physiological pathways, whereas many aspects of its roles remain unclear due to the lack of robust analytical methods. In this work, we report a novel kind of special reaction-based nanosensors, gold nanoparticles modified with newly synthesized 2-mercapto-4-methoxy-phenol molecules (AuNPs/MMP), to detect the endogenous HOCl in living cells according to the changes in the SERS spectrum of AuNPs/MMP resulting from the reaction of HOCl with MMP on AuNPs. These nanosensors can rapidly respond to HOCl within 1 min with the detection limit at 10 −7  M level. Furthermore, the nanosensors exhibit high selectivity for HOCl because of the specificity of the reaction combined with the fingerprinting capability of SERS. Consequently, the proposed SERS nanosensors are capable of monitoring and imaging the endogenous HOCl generated in a living macrophage under stimulation, showing great promise to be used for in-situ studies of the pathophysiological processes that involve HOCl. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), widely distributing in the human body, associates with many liver and bone diseases. Herein, we designed a reusable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor via electrochemical self-assembly of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) and zinc-based metal organic frameworks (Zn-MOFs) at anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane for detecting ALP activity. The detection is based on the sensitive SERS response of the newly synthesized 2-mercaptoquinone (2-MBQ) modified on AuNPs surface towards ascorbic acid (AA) formed from the dephosphorylation of ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA2P) in the presence of ALP. Benefitting from the sieving function of Zn-MOFs and superiority of SERS, the developed sensor exhibited strong anti-interference performance and wide detection range from 1 to 300 U/L with a detection limit of 0.38 U/L, which allowed the direct detection of ALP activity in serum without any pretreatment. Besides, we regenerated the used sensor through the electrochemical oxidation of the reduced probe molecule 2-mercaptohydroquinone (2-MHQ). The regenerated sensor exhibited good maintenance of sensitive response to ALP, in favor of improving the usage efficiency and cutting the test cost. This work provides a promising platform for early diagnosis of ALP-related diseases and paves the way towards developing regenerable and pretreatment-free SERS sensors.
