Abstract

When a management reserve occurs due to a design change in a company's outsourcing project, the additional cost is customarily only 2% to 10% of the original contract amount. If the management reserve exceeds the original contract amount by 20% to 50%, it reveals the imprudence of running the outsourcing project. Based on the company's policy requirements, an outsourcing project must finish the tender process by following the timeline of every work stage determined by the characteristics and environment of the project. This research studied the factors causing management reserve in an outsourcing project of the case company using the Six Sigma define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC) method. The root cause was the lack of defining the specific responsibility in charge of unit, leading to insufficient communication between demand and executive departments as well as between project engineering and procurement departments in the preceding process. The preceding process must have a specific management procedure by redefining each unit's responsibility to avoid frequent design changes later. In addition, the procurement department estimated the reserve prices by analyzing the supplier's quotes using quantitative cost analysis. In the ultimate efficiency evaluation, this study verified that the improved procurement cases dramatically reduced circumstances of design change and management reserve and met the case company's due date. Abstract

Given the growing interest in micro-scale thermal management of mini- and micro-light-emitting diodes (LEDs), it is crucial to develop an effective 2-D junction temperature measurement method. In this article, the microscopic hyperspectral imaging ( $\mu $ -HSI) technique has been proposed to probe the 2-D photo-thermal distribution of the flip-chip mini-LEDs. Running on a two-axis rotating platform, $\mu $ -HSI is able to directly focus on the epitaxial layer surface (episurface) and lateral side of the LED chips to acquire their 2-D spectral distributions. Subsequently, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) matrix was extracted to deduce the 2-D junction temperature distributions. As a result, the location and temperature distribution of the active layer, i.e., p-n junction, can be determined accurately. The mean temperature of the episurface approximately matches that of the active layer. The Raman shift method was applied to verify the accuracy of the $\mu $ -HSI technique. In addition, the extra fine structures as well as temperature distributions of the interface between the episurface and sapphire or electrodes are distinguished and analyzed by this technique. This work offers an effective tool for the quality improvement and thermal management of mini-LEDs.

Abstract

With the use of the capacitance, estimation techniques for the carrier concentration of the light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are introduced in this paper. The proposed model relates the carrier concentration to the forward current, the thermal resistance of the heatsink, the LED device, the device package, and the other physical parameters of the device (such as the bandgap energy, series resistance, and ideality factor), coefficients for the current, and temperature effect on the apparent capacitance altogether. It could provide a framework for analyzing LED devices. The estimation methods consist of simple procedures for electrical measurements, which are easy for LED device manufacturers and system designers to follow. The proposed model has been tested with LED devices, with reasonably good agreement between theoretical and practical results. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
