14. Transparent Superamphiphobic Material Formed by Hierarchical Nano Re‐Entrant Structure.

Abstract

Developing transparent and superamphiphobic materials that can repel low‐surface‐tension liquids is attractive for fundamental research and industrial applications. Despite great progress, it remains a daunting challenge to scalably fabricate highly transparent superamphiphobic materials because of the inherent paradox in surface roughness to achieve superamphiphobicity and optical transparency. Herein, a scalable template‐assisted spray coating method is developed to form hierarchical nano re‐entrant structures that eliminate the visible‐light scattering while maintaining optical transmittance above 88% in the visible region, besides retaining the superamphiphobicity to various low surface‐tension liquids. In addition to exhibiting improved mechanical, chemical, and thermal stabilities, these transparent superamphiphobic materials can also be applied on various substrates, including curved surfaces and solar panels, to enhance their optical stability. 15. Biomimetic intelligent photonic crystal composite films with tri-mode optical states for advanced anti-counterfeiting and information encryption.

Abstract

Counterfeiting has emerged as a significant global concern in recent years, posing serious security risks to individuals and society as a whole. Unfortunately, existing anti-counterfeiting technologies have proven to be inadequate in addressing the growing problem of counterfeit activities. In light of this, a delicate strategy inspired by Phelsuma gecko has been developed, which involves the creation of intelligent photonic crystal composite (PCC) films that combine physical (colloidal PC) and chemical elements (thermochromic microcapsules and fluorescent materials) to exhibit three distinct optical states. These states, including structural, pigmentary, and fluorescent colors, can be easily switched using thermal stimuli and UV irradiation. Laser-etched patterned PCC films have also been successfully achieved, showcasing superior performance in terms of optical capabilities. The regioselective deposition of PCC films with different thermochromism has enabled the creation of multicolored patterned PCC films, which can be activated in response to thermal fluctuations. Leveraging these advancements, a high-level anti-counterfeiting and information encryption system has been demonstrated, offering the ability to deliver three distinct optical information on-demand. This work establishes a new platform for achieving multiple optical states within a single system, opening up vast possibilities for advancements in the fields of anti-counterfeiting and information security. Abstract

Two rhodamine‐anthracene derivative probes (RA1 and RA2) were designed and synthesized to incorporate different lengths of diamine chains between the rhodamine and anthracene moieties. Among the 16 different metal ions tested, RA1 exhibited the highest fluorescence enhancement in response to Hg2+ with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.76×10−7 M, while RA2 showed the greatest fluorescence enhancement in the presence of Fe3+ with the LOD of 2.41×10−7 M. Notably, RA1 effectively eliminated the interference caused by Fe3+ during Hg2+ detection, whereas RA2 successfully eliminated the interference of Hg2+ during Fe3+ determination. This response difference between the two ions holds particular importance in scenarios where both heavy metal ions coexist. Additionally, fluorescence microscopy imaging of mouse mammary cancer cells (4T1) under the influence of Fe3+ demonstrated the potential applications of the probe. This study highlights the significance of a simple molecular design approach in tailoring probe selectivity by modifying the intramolecular flexible chain length. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

By loading microemulsion containing both sensitizer and emitter into the treated eco-friendly hydrogel, a new solid-state material of triplet–triplet annihilation based upconversion (TTA-UC) material was first reported. This UC hydrogel has shown an excellent stable emission of the green-to-blue luminescence, owing to the honeycomb-like nanoporous structure of the hydrogel. Moreover, this emission of UC hydrogel was strongly dependent on the temperature. The UC fluorescence intensity is close to the linear growth from 30 to 60 °C. This thermoresponsive upconversion hydrogel, which could be easily molded into various shapes, has provided a new perspective in manufacturing a novel temperature indicator and as well other applications in stabilizing air-sensitive species in aerated systems.

38. Ratiometric Fluorescence Detection of Mg2+Based on Regulating Crown-Ether Modified Annihilators for Triplet–Triplet Annihilation Upconversion

Abstract

Detection of magnesium ion has been of great significance considering its critical physiological activities. Herein, we report ratiometric fluorescence detection of Mg2+with high sensitivity and selectivity based on triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA) upconversion for the first time. Crown-ether functionalized anthracene derivatives were synthesized, which bifunctionally acted as not only annihilators to construct TTA upconversion systems but also the recognition probes for Mg2+based on the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism. Their photophysical properties with the absence and presence of Mg2+were comprehensively studied. It was found that solvents strongly influenced the photophysical properties and Mg2+-responsiveness. TTA upconversion systems with PtOEP as the sensitizer were further established and investigated. It turned out PtOEP/9-AEC in DCM exhibited an excellent linear relationship (R2= 0.9979) between the intensity ratio (the integrated upconverted luminescence intensity (IUC) over the integrated downshifted phosphorescence intensity (IPL), IUC/IPL) and the concentration of Mg2+under the excitation of 532 nm with a limit of detection value of 2.52 μM and a high selectivity to Mg2+. This work opened a new perspective of designs and applications of TTA-upconversion-based ratiometric fluorescence for ion detection.
