The dissolution process of CO2 bubbles adhered to a flat plate in a rectangular channel at different flow velocities is studied experimentally and theoretically. In the experiments, the CO2 bubble is manually introduced by means of a needle connected to a micro-syringe in the rectangular channel filled with ultra-pure degassed water. The rectangular channel comprises a transparent 3D printed cavity and a replaceable plate. The water flow velocity in the rectangular channel can be precisely controlled using a liquid flow controller. The CO2 bubble is adhered to the flat plate, which is replaceable and has different wetting properties. The dissolution process of the bubble is visualized using a high-speed camera at different flow velocities. The changing bubble radius over time is calculated using an image processing program. A mathematical dissolution model is developed to estimate the dissolution durations of the CO2 bubble adhered to the flat plate, which includes the effect of contact angle and water flow velocity by using Sherwood number. With appropriate constants, the dissolution model exhibits good agreement with the experimental results. It is found that both the contact angle and water flow velocity play important roles in the bubble dissolution rate. An increase in water flow velocity can help improve the bubble dissolution rate. With a decrease in contact angle, the bubble dissolution rate becomes faster. The application of online learning and educational technologies in higher education has changed teaching methods, the channels of delivering learning materials, and modes of communication between teachers and students. This study is aimed to improve learning effects and investigate, via quasi-experiments, the effects of web-mediated socially-shared regulation of learning (SSRL) and experience-based learning (ExBL) on improving students' learning results. The experimental design in this study was a 2 (SSRL vs. non-SSRL) × 2 (ExBL vs. non-ExBL) factorial pretest/post-test design. Four classes in a one-semester course titled "Applied Information Technology: Data Processing" at university level were chosen for this study. Based on the analysis carried out in this study, students who received the treatments of web-mediated SSRL and/or ExBL did not have significantly better computing skills in using Excel. The reasons for these insignificances and implications thereof are discussed in this paper. Nevertheless, students in the SSRL and non-ExBL class had significant increases in scores for their learning motivation at the end of semester compared with the beginning.

Here, a new indium (In)-based coordination polymer [In(hip)](DMF)2(H2O)3 (1, DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide) was successfully prepared by a solvothermal reaction of In(NO3)3·6H2O and 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid (H3hip) in a mixed solvent of DMF and H2O with the presence of NaCl as a template. Complex 1 was characterized by elemental analysis (EA), single-crystal X-ray crystallography, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and the results reveal that complex 1 shows a two-dimensional (2D) grid-like network with considerable solvent accessible volume that was generated from the packing of the 2D layers via the AB pattern. Furthermore, complex 1 could be downsized into nanoscale particles with the aid of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). In addition, the anticancer activities of 1 and the nanoscale 1 were probed via the 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo (-z-y1)-3,5-di-phenytetrazoliumromide (MTT) assay.

Much application software education in Taiwan can hardly be regarded as practical. The researchers in this study provided a flexible means of ubiquitous learning (u-learning) with a mobile app for students to access the learning material. In addition, the authors also adopted computational thinking (CT) to help students develop practical computing skills. Three classes of first-year students were chosen for the empirical study. They were divided into three groups: two experimental groups (CT&UL group and CT group) and one control group. According to the results in this study, students who received the treatment of u-learning could have significantly better computing skills in using PowerPoint and Word than those without. However, the treatment of web-mediated CT did not result in better development of students' computing skills in this research. Finally, the researchers expect that this study provides a design and illustration of CT in a u-learning environment for schools and educators.

Background: Trait emotional intelligence and fear of cancer recurrence could predict quality of life, but the mechanism between the three is poorly understood. Methods: The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between trait emotional intelligence, fear of cancer recurrence and quality of life in patients with breast cancer. A cross‐sectional study was conducted with 215 breast cancer patients recruited from two hospitals in China. Data were collected from December 2018 to April 2019. Questionnaires measured demographic and medical characteristics, trait emotional intelligence, fear of cancer recurrence and quality of life. Pearson correlation analysis and structural equation modelling were conducted to analyse the data. Results: As expected, trait emotional intelligence was positively related to quality of life and negatively correlated with fear of cancer recurrence. Fear of cancer recurrence was negatively associated with quality of life. This relationship between trait emotional intelligence and quality of life was mediated by fear of cancer recurrence. Conclusions: These results shed light on underlying mechanisms by which trait emotional intelligence affects quality of life. Trait emotional intelligence training could reduce fear of cancer recurrence to improve quality of life for cancer patients. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Trait emotional intelligence is a predictor of quality of life and can manage emotion.Fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer patients is an important factor that impairs their quality of life.There is a lack of research on the mediating role of fear of cancer recurrence on the path from trait emotional intelligence to quality of life. What this paper adds? Trait emotional intelligence is associated with fear of cancer recurrence.Fear of cancer recurrence of breast cancer patients mediates the effect of trait emotional intelligence on their quality of life.
