Impatiens is rich in germplasm resources, with more than 260 species in China. A study on the pollen micromorphology of Impatiens by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the pollen characteristics were richly diverse, and there was some correlation among the characteristics. In addition, the micromorphological index can be used for an effective cluster analysis of Impatiens. However, there was high interspecific similarity in some Impatiens, and the classification of Impatiens cannot be accurate to the species using pollen characteristics. Based on the classification conditions of Impatiens, the characteristics of the pollen structure were found to be useful to classify Impatiens into subgenera or smaller groups. The macroscopic characteristics and the number of sepals (NS) were used as references, which enabled the conclusion that there were 11 indices in the pollen micromorphological index, and the taxonomic effect was greater than the NS. In summary, the pollen micromorphology of Impatiens plays an important role in the classification of Impatiens. The purpose of this study was to explore this characteristic of Impatiens, which has some reference significance to supplement the pollen characteristics and palynological classification of Impatiens. The goal for this research was to aid in the interspecific identification and genetic breeding of Impatiens.

Orexin is exclusively produced in neurons localized within the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) and perifornical area (PFA). Orexin has been identified as a key promotor of arousal. The selective loss of orexinergic neurons results in narcolepsy. It is known that the intrinsic electrophysiological properties are critical for neurons to perform their functions in corresponding brain regions. In addition to hypothalamic orexin, other brain nuclei are involved in the regulation of sleep and wakefulness. Quite a lot of studies focus on elucidating orexin‐induced regulation of sleep–wake states and modulation of neuronal electrophysiological properties in several brain regions. Here, we summarize that the orexinergic neurons exhibit spontaneous firing activity which is associated with the states of sleep–wake cycle. Orexin mainly exerts postsynaptic excitatory effects on multiple brain nuclei associated with the process of sleep and wakefulness. Precise synapse elimination is essential for the establishment of a fully developed neural circuit during brain development and higher function in adult brain. Beyond immune and nutrition support, recent groundbreaking studies have revealed that phagocytic microglia and astrocytes can actively and selectively eliminate synapses in normal and diseased brains, thereby mediating synapse loss and maintaining circuit homeostasis. Multiple lines of evidence indicate that the mechanisms of synapse elimination by phagocytic glia are not universal but rather depend on specific contexts and detailed neuron–glia interactions. The mechanism of synapse elimination by phagocytic glia is dependent on neuron-intrinsic factors and many innate immune and local apoptosis-related molecules. During development, microglial synapse engulfment in the visual thalamus is primarily influenced by the classic complement pathway, whereas in the barrel cortex, the fractalkine pathway is dominant. In Alzheimer's disease, microglia employ complement-dependent mechanisms for synapse engulfment in tauopathy and early β-amyloid pathology, but microglia are not involved in synapse loss at late β-amyloid stages. Phagocytic microglia also engulf synapses in a complement-dependent way in schizophrenia, anxiety, and stress. In addition, phagocytic astrocytes engulf synapses in a MEGF10-dependent way during visual development, memory, and stroke. Furthermore, the mechanism of a phenomenon that phagocytes selectively eliminate excitatory and inhibitory synapses is also emphasized in this review. We hypothesize that elucidating context-dependent synapse elimination by phagocytic microglia and astrocytes may reveal the molecular basis of synapse loss in neural disorders and provide a rationale for developing novel candidate therapies that target synapse loss and circuit homeostasis. Aiming at the drawbacks of beluga whale optimization (BWO), such as low convergence accuracy, limited adaptive ability and weak anti-stagnation ability, two improved BWO algorithms based on Fuch mapping and dynamic opposition-based learning, namely, CIOEBWO and CPOEBWO, are proposed from the perspectives of chaos initialization, chaotic parameter, and nonlinear control strategy. Fuch chaotic initialization is used to increase the traversal of the initial population of BWO, which enhances the optimization accuracy and convergence speed of the algorithm. In the phase of exploitation, Fuch chaotic mapping is introduced to dynamically adjust the parameter C1 to coordinate the capabilities of global search and local search, which improves the adaptive ability of BWO effectively. On the basis of two improvement strategies described above, the dynamic opposition-based learning strategy is introduced to enrich the number of high-quality individuals and enhance the overall anti-stagnation ability of the algorithm. The experimental results of 8 benchmark test functions and Friedman rank test indicate that the convergence accuracy, adaptive ability, and anti-stagnation ability of improved BWO are effectively improved. Compared with BWO and CIOEBWO, CPOEBWO has the better performance. In addition, the optimization results of CPOEBWO and six comparison algorithms show that CPOEBWO has the stronger optimization ability and robustness. Finally, CPOEBWO is applied to solve the engineering optimization problems to demonstrate its applicability and effectiveness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To explore the molecular targets and associated potential pathways of Lycii Fructus (LF, Gou Qi Zi, 枸杞子) in the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) by the approaches of network pharmacology and bioinformatics. Methods: The potential blood-entry active ingredients and targets of LF were retrieved by Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP). RP-related gene targets were retrieved through disease comprehensive databases. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of LF component-targets and RP disease-targets was constructed by STRING, and the intersection of the 2 networks was extracted. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis of theintersection network were conducted by Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID). CytoHubba was used to screen the key targets. Results: A total of 188 chemical constituents related to LF was retrieved from TCMSP database. 45 active ingredients were screened according to pharmacokinetic parameters oral bioavailability (OB) and drug similarity (DL). 36 active ingredients were further screened and 201 targets related to these constituents were obtained. 206 target genes directly related to RP were obtained from the disease comprehensive databases, and 89 genes were obtained from the intersection of component-target and disease-target PPI network. These genes were mainly involved in intracellular signal transduction, GTPase activity regulation, cell morphology regulation, and other biological processes. Molecular functions were mainly related to Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor activity, GTPase activator activity, receptor signal protein serine/threonine kinase activity and so on. They were enriched in the cytoplasm, cell membrane, Golgi apparatus, and other regions. The mechanism was related to cell cycle pathways, neurotrophin signaling pathways, Ras signaling pathways, and so on. 10 key gene targets of LF in the treatment of RP were screened. Conclusions: The material basis for LF to exert its pharmacodynamic effect is 36 active ingredients such as cycloartenol, mandenol, and so on. The key targets of LF in the treatment of RP include 10 genes, such as Rho, PAK, and so on. The main mechanism is related to the regulation of the Ras signaling pathway, neurotrophin signaling pathway, cell cycle related pathway, and other signaling networks. General methods for the preparation of geminal bis(boronates) are of great interest due to their widespread applications in organic synthesis. While the terminal gem‐diboron compounds are readily accessible, the construction of the sterically encumbered, internal analogues has remained a prominent challenge. Herein, we report a formal umpolung strategy to access these valuable building blocks. The readily available 1,1‐diborylalkanes were first converted into the corresponding α‐halogenated derivatives, which then serve as electrophilic components, undergoing a formal substitution with a diverse array of nucleophiles to form a series of C−C, C−O, C−S, and C−N bonds. This protocol features good tolerance to steric hindrance and a wide variety of functional groups and heterocycles. Notably, this strategy can also be extended to the synthesis of diaryl and terminal gem‐diboron compounds, therefore providing a general approach to various types of geminal bis(boronates).
