Magnetic property (e.g. spin order) of support is of great importance in the rational design of heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, we have taken the Ni-supported ferromagnetic (FM) CrBr3 support (Nix/CrBr3) to thoroughly investigate the effect of spin-order on electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) via spin-polarized density functional theory calculations. Specifically, Ni loading induces anti-FM coupling in Ni–Cr, leading to a transition from FM-to-ferrimagnetic (FIM) properties, while Ni–Ni metallic bonds create a robust FM direct exchange, benefiting the improvement of the phase transition temperature. Interestingly, with the increase in Ni loading, the easy magnetic axis changes from out-of-plane (2D-Heisenberg) to in-plane (2D-XY). The adsorption properties of Nix/CrBr3, involving O2 adsorption energy and configuration, are not governed by the d-band center but strongly correlate with magnetic anisotropy. It is noteworthy that the applied potential and electrolyte acidity triggers spin-order transition phenomena during the ORR and induces the catalytic pathway change from 4e− ORR to 2e− ORR with the excellent onset potential of 0.93 V/reversible hydrogen electrode, comparable to the existing most excellent noble-metal catalysts. Tailoring the specific properties to practical applications by structural modification is of vital importance for the envisioned development of two-dimensional ferroelectric materials. Herein, a comprehensive investigation on the effects of single doping on the ferroelectric properties and electronic transport in a monolayer of α-In2Se3 was carried out via the combination of first-principles density functional theory calculations and electron–phonon coupling simulations. Our results show that single-doping in In2Se3 can reduce effective mass of carriers and thereby enhance the high carrier mobility potential of the material. Moreover, the ferroelectric phonon mode in single-doped In2Se2X features a lower scattering rate, associating with the single-doping atom, and indicates reduced hindrance to carrier transport during ferroelectric switching. Compared to pristine In2Se3, the obtained smaller ferroelectric barriers (<1 eV) of single-doped ones promote more promising ferroelectricity from the analysis of the ferroelectric soft mode. Interestingly, the observed variations in ferroelectric behaviors resulting from doping of different elements highlight the significance of single-doping in modifying the ferroelectric properties of monolayers. Furthermore, strain engineering results reveal that single doping obviously affects the dependence of gap on strains: linear relationship for doping ones and nonlinearity for pristine one. Comprehensive Summary Macrocyclic compounds are of great interest for their ability to capture guest molecules into their cavities. In particular, host‐guest interaction plays a crucial role in the formation of supramolecular compounds. Herein, two host‐guest supramolecular compounds, [Al8(OH)8(L)16]·2HL (HL@AlOC‐166, HL = 4‐Iodobenzoic acid) and [Al8(OH)8(L)8(L1)8]·2DMF (DMF@AlOC‐166, HL1 = isoamyl alcohol), are acquired by introducing different types of guest components based on the internal pore cavities of the aluminum molecular ring [Al8(OH)8(L)16] (AlOC‐166). The inclusion of these guests is attributed to the presence of abundant hydrophilic OH serving as the hydrogen bond donors inward the ring cavity. Host‐guest compounds usually exhibit superior nonlinear optical (NLO) response due to the existence of guest molecules that could change symmetry, dipole moments, charge distributions, etc. Unexpectedly, the AlOC‐166 achieved the best NLO results, although it had no guest molecules inside its molecular ring, which breaks the traditional concept. The reason for this trend can be explained by the difference in intermolecular force rather than intramolecular interaction, mainly related to the amount and strength of π···π and C—I···π interactions in different compounds. Structural engineering has proven effective in tailoring the photocatalytic properties of semiconductor nanostructures. In this work, a sophisticated double‐hollow yolk@shell nanostructure composed of a plasmonic, mobile, hollow Au nanosphere (HGN) yolk and a permeable, hollow CdS shell is proposed to achieve remarkable solar hydrogen production. The shell thickness of HGN@CdS is finely adjusted from 7.7, 18.4 to 24.5 nm to investigate its influence on the photocatalytic performance. Compared with pure HGN, pure CdS, a physical mixture of HGN and CdS, and a counterpart single‐hollow cit‐Au@CdS yolk@shell nanostructure, HGN@CdS exhibits superior hydrogen production under visible light illumination (λ = 400–700 nm). The apparent quantum yield of hydrogen production reaches 8.2% at 320 nm, 6.2% at 420 nm, and 4.4% at 660 nm. The plasmon‐enhanced activity at 660 nm is exceptional, surpassing the plasmon‐induced photoactivities of the state‐of‐the‐art plasmonic photocatalysts ever reported. The superiority of HGN@CdS originates from the creation of charge separation state at HGN/CdS heterojunction, the considerably long‐lived hot electrons of plasmonic HGN, the magnified electric field, and the advantageous features of double‐hollow yolk@shell nanostructures. Predicting the corporate default probability accurately is the core of credit risk management. There has been a relatively small amount of the literature on predicting a firm’s forward default risk. In particular, we wish to emphasize certain features of the panel data that are often overlooked in the analysis of default forecasting. First, the panel data are observed at discrete-time points with a large unit of time such as month, quarter, or year. Second, repeated survival status outcomes from the same firm are highly correlated. Thus, the continuous-time treatment or an independence assumption is often violated in practice. To avoid these potential drawbacks, we propose an extension of the discrete-time forward hazard model by assigning a frailty variable specifically to each firm. We use a real panel dataset to illustrate the proposed methodology. Using the dataset, our results first support the significance of including the firm-specific frailty variable in the extended model. Then, using an expanding rolling window approach, our results confirm that the extended model provides better and more robust out-of-sample performance than its alternative without frailty. Summary In photosynthetic cells, plants convert carbon dioxide to sugars that can be moved between cellular compartments by transporters before being subsequently metabolized to support plant growth and development. Most pathogens cannot synthesize sugars directly but have evolved mechanisms to obtain plant‐derived sugars as C resource for successful infection and colonization. The availability of sugars to pathogens can determine resistance or susceptibility. Here, we summarize current progress on the roles of sugar transporters in plant–pathogen interactions. We highlight how transporters are manipulated antagonistically by both host and pathogens in competing for sugars. Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) can damage the brain and may cause abnormal behaviors. There was no population-based study to reveal the relationship between OPFRs and the occurrence of depression. This study utilized a publicly available database to investigate the correlation between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, and the mediation effect of inflammation on the correlation. Data in this study was from the database of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Multifactorial logistic regression was used to estimate the relationship between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, and a mediation effect model was constructed to explore the impact of inflammation on the correlation. Data of 1273 participants was included in the study. It was found that individuals with high urinary concentration of bis-(2-chloroethyl) phosphate had an increased risk of developing depression (OR = 1.217, 95 % CI: 1.032–1.435). Combined exposure to OPFRs was significantly associated with the increased risk of depression than single OPFRs exposure. Subgroup analyses based on inflammatory levels in the body revealed that inflammation might exert the mediation effect on the association between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, with the contribution proportion of 8.23 %. Cross-sectional data and rapid metabolism of OPFRs lead to uncertainty in revealing long-term exposure in the body. The literature on East Asian developmental states has mostly focused on economic policies; few studies have investigated how developmentalism affects urbanisation. This study addresses this gap by analysing the formation of a housing system by the developmental state and the role of the housing sector in the transition from an economic miracle in the 1960s to stagnation after the 1990s. Wang, Lee, and Chen (2017) argued that Taiwan’s state bureaucrats played a gradually diminishing role in directing the market. This article takes a different approach by arguing that the government’s interventions on housing intensified after the 1990s; housing finance sectors were formalised, squatters were removed, and interventions based on market mechanisms were employed to stimulate the housing market. However, the lack of an effective state intervention on housing made speculation difficult to control and created an obstacle to economic development. Background: Human toxocariasis is a neglected parasitic disease characterised by the syndromes visceral, cerebral, and ocular larva migrans. This disease is caused by the migrating larvae of Toxocara roundworms from dogs and cats, affecting 1.4 billion people globally. Via extracellular vesicles (EVs), microRNAs have been demonstrated to play roles in host–parasite interactions and proposed as circulating biomarkers for the diagnosis and follow-up of parasitic diseases. Methods: Small RNA-seq was conducted to identify miRNAs in the infective larvae of T. canis and plasma EV-containing preparations of infected BALB/c mice. Differential expression analysis and target prediction were performed to indicate miRNAs involved in host–parasite interactions and miRNAs associated with visceral and/or cerebral larva migrans in the infected mice. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to amplify circulating miRNAs from the infected mice. Results: This study reports host and parasite miRNAs in the plasma of BALB/c mice with visceral and cerebral larva migrans and demonstrates the alterations of these miRNAs during the migration of larvae from the livers through the lungs and to the brains of infected mice. After filtering unspecific changes in an irrelevant control, T. canis-derived miRNAs and T. canis infection-induced differential miRNAs are predicted to modulate genes consistently involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling and pathways regulating axon guidance and pluripotency of stem in the infected mice with visceral and cerebral larva migrans. For these plasma circulating miRNAs predicted to be involved in host-parasite crosstalk, two murine miRNAs (miR-26b-5p and miR-122-5p) are experimentally verified to be responsive to larva migrans and represent circulating biomarker candidates for visceral and cerebral toxocariasis in BALB/c mice. Conclusions: Our findings provide novel insights into the crosstalk of T. canis and the mammalian host via plasma circulating miRNAs, and prime agents and indicators for visceral and cerebral larva migrans. Comprehensive Summary Room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials have experienced rapid development due to their potential in organic light‐ emitting diode, information security, bioimaging, etc. However, the design of chiral organic phosphors with circularly polarized RTP (CPP) property remains a formidable challenge. Here, we introduce a chiral perturbation approach using a combination of chiral binaphthol and phenoselenazine derivative to achieve CPP. The photoactivated CPP in polystyrene (PS) film demonstrates a luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum), emission efficiency, and RTP lifetime up to 9.32 × 10–3, 27.0%, and 40.0 ms, respectively. The remarkable sensitivity of PS film to oxygen and temperature enables the adjustable emission colors, ranging from green to offwhite and blue under varying conditions. The doping systems, utilizing hosts of triphenylphosphine and 9‐phenylcarbazole, demonstrate an extended CPP lifetime of 85.9 ms and exhibit a persistent mechanoluminescence property with low pressure response threshold as low as 0.15 N. The information security provided by this CPP material was attained via the using of diverse emission colors and afterglow generated by distinct UV irradiation times and host materials. Alternately, it can also be achieved by observing different emission patterns using R‐ and L‐polarizer. Analysis of competing risks data has been an important topic in survival analysis due to the need to account for the dependence among the competing events. Also, event times are often recorded on discrete time scales, rendering the models tailored for discrete‐time nature useful in the practice of survival analysis. In this work, we focus on regression analysis with discrete‐time competing risks data, and consider the errors‐in‐variables issue where the covariates are prone to measurement errors. Viewing the true covariate value as a parameter, we develop the conditional score methods for various discrete‐time competing risks models, including the cause‐specific and subdistribution hazards models that have been popular in competing risks data analysis. The proposed estimators can be implemented by efficient computation algorithms, and the associated large sample theories can be simply obtained. Simulation results show satisfactory finite sample performances, and the application with the competing risks data from the scleroderma lung study reveals the utility of the proposed methods. Two blends comprising new dicyanopyrazine‐based acceptors (m‐CN and p‐CN) and a carbazole‐based donor CPTBF are explored for exciplex formation. The CPTBF:m‐CN and CPTBF:p‐CN blends show the signature red‐shifted emission together with the delayed fluorescence observed in time‐resolved measurement, manifesting the characteristics of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). The electroluminescence (EL) device employing CPTBF:m‐CN (CPTBF:p‐CN) blend as the emitting layer (EML) achieved an EQE of 5.22% (2.05%) with the EL λmax centered at 607 nm (625 nm). The exciplex excitons can be efficiently extracted by a new benzobisthiadiazole‐based near‐infrared (NIR) emitter DCzPBBT, where a device is configured with CPTBF:m‐CN: (5 wt.%) DCzPBBT as the EML to achieve a high EQE of 5.32% and an EL λmax 758 nm. Further increase of the doping concentration to 10 wt.% of DCzPBBT exhibits a bathochromic shifted EL λmax to 772 nm with 94% spectral coverage in the NIR (>700 nm) region, while the device EQE retains at 4.06%. The dissociation of the hydrogen molecule is rarely explored in the high-temperature flow of modern and historic nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP) engines. This study investigates the impact of absorption on highly-enriched and low-enriched uranium NTP reactors due to hydrogen dissociation surface reactions. Results show that with increasing temperature, dissociated hydrogen has a decreasing wall coverage but a significant crossflow velocity, as high as 81 mm/s, near the outlet due to absorption. This absorption changes the turbulent velocity profile while only having a small effect on the local Stanton number. Changing velocity profiles and mass loss to the wall can change mass flow rates, altering engine performance. Calculation and modeling via analytical solutions are unlikely as similar studies show non-uniqueness and existence issues at this study's R e w = 1.43. Follow-on computational fluid dynamic modeling is needed to fully capture the performance changes to the NTP engine. Background: Transient Receptor Potential Mucolipin 1 (TRPML1) serves as a pivotal reactive oxygen species (ROS) sensor in cells, which is implicated in the regulation of autophagy. However, its function in melanocyte autophagy under oxidative stress remains elusive. Methods: The expression and ion channel function of TRPML1 were investigated using immunofluorescence and calcium imaging in primary human melanocytes (MCs). After activating TRPML1 with MLSA1 (TRPML1 agonist), autophagy‐related molecules were investigated via western blot. ROS level, apoptosis‐ and autophagy‐related molecules were investigated after pretreatment with MLSA1. After interference with TRPML1 expression, mitochondrial structures were visualized by electron microscopy with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2）treatment. Results: TRPML1 was expressed and functionally active in primary human MCs, and its activation promotes elevated expression of LC3‐II and reduced apoptosis and ROS levels under oxidative stress. TRPML1 downregulation caused mitochondrial swelling and disruption of cristae structures under oxidative stress in primary human MCs. Conclusions: TRPML1 might mediate lysosomal autophagy in primary human MCs under oxidative stress, participating in mechanisms that maintain the oxidative and antioxidant systems in balance. Zinc ions (Zn2+) play a key role in maintaining and regulating protein structures and functions. To better understand the intracellular Zn2+ homeostasis and signaling role, various fluorescent sensors have been developed that allow the monitoring of Zn2+ concentrations and bioimaging in live cells in real time. This review highlights the recent development of organic fluorescent probes for the detection and imaging of intracellular Zn2+, including the design and construction of the probes, fluorescent response mechanisms, and their applications to intracellular Zn2+ detection and imaging on-site. Glaucoma is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that poses a significant threat of irreversible blindness worldwide. Current treatments for glaucoma focus on reducing intraocular pressure (IOP), which is the only modifiable risk factor. Traditional anti-glaucomatous agents, including carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, beta-blockers, alpha-2 agonists, and prostaglandin analogs, work by either improving uveoscleral outflow or reducing aqueous humor production. Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitors represent a novel class of anti-glaucomatous drugs that have emerged from bench to bedside in the past decade, offering multifunctional characteristics. Unlike conventional medications, ROCK inhibitors directly target the trabecular meshwork outflow pathway. This review aims to discuss the mechanism of ROCK inhibitors in reducing IOP, providing neuroprotection, and preventing fibrosis. We also highlight recent studies and clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of ROCK inhibitors, compare them with other clinical anti-glaucomatous medications, and outline future prospects for ROCK inhibitors in glaucoma treatment. Public speaking is considered the most anxiety-provoking speaking activity for English as a foreign language (EFL) learner. While traditional lecture-based classrooms hinder EFL learners' constant practice and frequent interaction due to large class sizes and limited time, recent developments in technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Automatic Speech Analysis, and Virtual Reality (VR), may enhance language learning by offering accessible and personalized learning experiences. This study aimed to investigate the effects of technology-enhanced learning on reducing EFL learners' PSA. Thirty-three university students were divided into three groups and received either lecture-based, mobile-assisted, or VR-facilitated instruction for four weeks. The students' perceived PSA levels were reduced in all three groups after their respective instruction, but only the VR-facilitated group reached statistical significance, and there were no differences in the three groups' final oral performances. However, the two technology-enhanced language learning (TELL) groups achieved more convergent performances on the Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety scale compared with the non-TELL group, which indicated that the impact of individual differences may have been compensated by technology assistance. The findings suggested that the instructional feedback generated by AI decreased the participants' PSA, although the irreplaceable role of teachers as facilitators was also emphasized, while the potential of using VR in teaching public speaking was evident. Structured light with multiple degrees of freedom has inspired many advanced applications, and its nonlinear control plays an important role in the interactions between light and matter. Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) based on light–sound coupling can be used to realize wavefront‐reversal nonlinear reflection of ordinary light; consequently, it is used to correct wavefront aberrations in high‐power laser systems. However, high‐fidelity wavefront reversal of structured light with orbital angular momentum and high‐reflectivity single‐end SBS of weak incident waves remain challenging. Here, the authors propose a cross‐pump focused SBS scheme that enables wavefront reversal with high fidelity, low threshold, and high reflectivity for arbitrary structured light. The authors demonstrate the capability of this approach to perform conformal and enhanced SBS reflections with a fidelity of >95% and reflectivity of >100%. Compared with the conventional focused SBS configuration, the SBS threshold is reduced by more than ten times, and wavefront reversal of weakly structured light is realized. This proof‐of‐principle study provides a high‐performance SBS platform with potential implications for high‐power structured lasers, high signal‐to‐noise‐ratio microscopy imaging, and the development of nonlinear optics with structured light. Fluorotelomer alcohols are an alternative to neurotoxic perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids, a sub-class of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). However, the effect of the fluorotelomer alcohol in offspring is poorly known. Here pregnant mice were exposed to various doses of the 6:2 fluorotelomer alcohol through intragastric administration from gestation day 8.5 until delivery. Results show that the fluorotelomer alcohol impaired the development of the blood–brain barrier and altered brain immune microenvironment, causing anxiety-like behavior and impairments in learning memory. Mechanistic studies suggest that this is due to the activation of the serine and threonine kinase AKT/nuclear factor kappa-b/matrix metalloproteinases signaling pathway, resulting in the degradation of the tight junction protein occludin, which in turn caused disruption of endothelial barrier function. Aim: To investigate the seizure course of PCDH19 clustering epilepsy (PCDH19‐CE) in a cohort of female children in China. Method: This ambidirectional cohort study examined 113 female patients with PCDH19‐CE through multicentre collaboration. Prognostic factors for seizure freedom were evaluated by multivariate Cox regression analysis. Results: The median seizure course period from seizure onset was 6 years 6 months. Of 113 patients, 78% and 56% experienced seizure freedom for at least 1 year and at least 2 years respectively. In patients younger than 5 years (n = 30), 5 to 10 years (n = 52), and older than 10 years (n = 31), 57%, 81%, and 94% experienced at least 1 year of seizure freedom, and 32%, 52%, and 84% experienced at least 2 years of seizure freedom, respectively. However, 58% (65 out of 113) relapsed at least once after more than 1 year of seizure freedom without trigger exposure (40%) or because of common triggers, including fever (43%) and antiseizure medication (ASM) reduction (29%). There was an 84% risk of seizure relapse after ASM reduction attempts. The likelihood of seizure freedom decreased with early age at seizure onset and developmental delay. Interpretation: Patients with PCDH19‐CE exhibit increasing seizure freedom with age, but there is a risk of relapse. ASM reduction in children younger than 10 years old requires caution. Patients with early seizure onset and developmental delay have a reduced chance of seizure freedom. Gravitational instability in the outskirts of active galactic nuclei (AGN) disks leads to disk fragmentation and formation of ∼300 M ⊙ supermassive stars with potentially long lifetimes. Alternatively, stars can be captured ex situ and grow from gas accretion in the AGN disk. However, the number density distribution throughout the disk is limited by thermal feedback as their luminosities provide the dominant heating source. We derive equilibrium stellar surface density profiles under two limiting contexts: in the case where the stellar lifetimes are prolonged, due to the recycling of hydrogen-rich disk gas, only the fraction of gas converted into heat is removed from the disk accretion flow. Alternatively, if stellar composition recycling is inefficient and stars can evolve off the main sequence, the disk accretion rate is quenched toward smaller radii resembling a classical starburst disk, albeit the effective removal rate depends not only on the stellar lifetime, but also the mass of stellar remnants. For AGNs with central supermassive black hole masses of ∼106–108 M ⊙ accreting at ∼0.1 Eddington efficiency, we estimate a total number of 103–105 massive stars and the rate of stellar mergers to be 10−3 to 1 yr−1. We initiate the detailed study of the interaction between a swarm of massive stars through hydro and N -body simulations to provide better prescriptions of dynamical processes in AGN disks, and to constrain more accurate estimates of the stellar population. The eastern Tianshan Mountain (ETS) region in Xinjiang, China, has played a crucial role as a major highway for large‐scale human migrations and technological exchanges across Eurasia throughout history. Understanding the genetic makeup of past populations holds significant importance in comprehending human mobility in this region. Here, we report genome‐wide ancient DNA for the two individuals whose origins remain uncertain, found at the Dahe ancient city site in the ETS region. Our results indicate that although both individuals display a higher genetic affinity to Asian populations, one individual shows some genetic sharing with South Asians, while the other shares more affinity with populations from Northeastern Asia. Radiocarbon dating shows that the two human remains were not deposited simultaneously. Overall, the combined genetic, physical anthropology and radiocarbon evidence strongly suggests that the ETS region, situated at the heart of the Silk Road, has been a crossroads of diverse populations coexisting between the 8th and 11th centuries. Additionally, the genetic ancestry sharing with the Bronze Age Tarim mummies suggested a long‐term residual of indigenous ancestry in Xinjiang and showed that autochthonous deep Asian ancestry had left their genetic legacy into the historical populations of Xinjiang despite a spanning of over three millennia. A theoretical paper based on chiral micropolar effective‐medium theory suggested the possibility of unusual roton‐like acoustical‐phonon dispersion relations in 3D elastic materials. Here, as a first novelty, the corresponding inverse problem is solved, that is, a specific 3D chiral elastic metamaterial structure is designed, the behavior of which follows this effective‐medium description. The metamaterial structure is based on a simple‐cubic lattice of cubes, each of which not only has three translational but also three rotational degrees of freedom. The additional rotational degrees of freedom are crucial within micropolar elasticity. The cubes and their degrees of freedom are coupled by a chiral network of slender rods. As a second novelty, this complex metamaterial is manufactured in polymer form by 3D laser printing and its behavior is characterized experimentally by phonon‐band‐structure measurements. The results of these measurements, microstructure finite‐element calculations, and solutions of micropolar effective‐medium theory are in good agreement. The roton‐like dispersion behavior of the lowest phonon branch results from two aspects. First, chirality splits the transverse acoustical branches as well as the transverse optical branches. The pil gene cluster for Type IV pilus (Tfp) biosynthesis is commonly present and highly conserved in Streptococcus sanguinis. Nevertheless, Tfp-mediated twitching motility is less common among strains, and the factors determining twitching activity are not fully understood. Here, we analyzed the functions of three major pilin proteins (PilA1, PilA2, and PilA3) in the assembly and activity of Tfp in motile S. sanguinis CGMH010. Using various recombinant pilA deletion strains, we found that Tfp composed of different PilA proteins varied morphologically and functionally. Among the three PilA proteins, PilA1 was most critical in the assembly of twitching-active Tfp, and recombinant strains expressing motility generated more structured biofilms under constant shearing forces compared to the non-motile recombinant strains. Although PilA1 and PilA3 shared 94% identity, PilA3 could not compensate for the loss of PilA1, suggesting that the nature of PilA proteins plays an essential role in twitching activity. The single deletion of individual pilA genes had little effect on the invasion of host endothelia by S. sanguinis CGMH010. In contrast, the deletion of all three pilA genes or pilT, encoding the retraction ATPase, abolished Tfp-mediated invasion. Tfp- and PilT-dependent invasion were also detected in the non-motile S. sanguinis SK36, and thus, the retraction of Tfp, but not active twitching, was found to be essential for invasion. Simple Summary: A decrease in eggshell quality in the late laying period leads to eggshell breakage, seriously affecting production efficiency. Guinea fowl with relatively high eggshell strength have the same layers of eggshell structure and various identical proteins as laying hens. However, their eggshell structures have not been systematically compared. Therefore, this study systematically compared the eggshell ultrastructure, bubble pore index, and composition of laying hens and Guinea fowl. The differences in the eggshell ultrastructure, bubble pores, and composition revealed, to some extent, the structure and composition necessary to increase the eggshell quality of laying hens. This study provides a reference for improving eggshell quality. The decrease in eggshell quality seriously affects production efficiency. Guinea fowl (GF) eggs possess strong eggshells because of their unique crystal structure, and few systematic studies have compared laying hen and GF eggs. Sixty eggs were collected from both 40-week-old Dwarf Layer-White (DWL-White) laying hens and GF, and the eggshell quality, ultrastructure, bubble pores, and composition were measured. The results showed that the DWL-White eggs had a higher egg weight and a lower eggshell strength, strength per unit weight, thickness, and ratio than the GF eggs (p < 0.01). There were differences in the mammillary layer thickness ratio, the effective layer thickness ratio, the quantity of bubble pores (QBPs), the ratio of the sum of the area of bubble pores to the area of the eggshell in each image (ARBE), and the average area of bubble pores (AABPs) between the DWL-White and GF eggs (p < 0.01). The composition analysis demonstrated that there were differences in the organic matter, inorganic matter, calcium, and phosphorus between the DWL-White and GF eggs (p < 0.01). There were positive associations between the mammillary knob number in the image and the QBPs and ARBE and a negative correlation with the AABPs in the DWL-White eggs (p < 0.01). This study aims to examine the difference between order‐based and clinically perceived nursing workloads and to quantify factors that contribute to a higher clinically perceived workload.A retrospective cohort study was used on an observational dataset.We combined patient flow, nurse staffing and assignment, and workload intensity data and used multivariate linear regression to analyze how various shift, patient, and nurse‐level factors, beyond order‐based workload, affect nurses' clinically perceived workload.Among 53% of our samples, the clinically perceived workload is higher than the order‐based workload. Factors associated with a higher clinically perceived workload include weekend or night shifts, shifts with a higher census, patients within the first 24 h of admission, and male patients.The order‐based workload measures tended to underestimate nurses' clinically perceived workload. We identified and quantified factors that contribute to a higher clinically perceived workload, discussed the potential mechanisms as to how these factors affect the clinically perceived workload, and proposed targeted interventions to better manage nursing workload.By identifying factors associated with a high clinically perceived workload, the nurse manager can provide appropriate interventions to lighten nursing workload, which may further reduce the risk of nurse burnout and shortage. The Haber‐Bosch process is commonly used to produce ammonia while consuming energy and yielding huge emissions of carbon dioxide. Finding an alternative way to produce ammonia sustainably is a promising research direction with less CO2 emission. Photochemical nitrate reduction reaction (NtRR) to ammonia (NH3) could solve the nitrate pollutant problem in water and approach to produce ammonia with a more environmentally friendly process and lower energy consumption. In this work, the subnanometer‐sized copper oxide clusters decorated on titanium oxide nanoparticles (CuOx‐TiO2) were synthesized through the hydrothermal method and calcination treatment. CuOx‐TiO2 demonstrated impressively conversion rate of NO3− to NH3 with a yield of 153.09 μg‐gcat−1‐h−1 in KNO3 solution. The characteristic structure analysis revealed CuOx clusters with ~less than 1 nm decorated on TiO2 nanoparticles. From in‐situ X‐ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopic technique, the transformation of the oxidation state of Cu clusters and the changes of local structure in the CuOx‐TiO2 were observed. The photocatalytic reaction mechanism of nitrate reduction on the CuOx‐TiO2 was successfully revealed. These discoveries have broad implications for the functional advancement of catalysts based on subnanometer‐sized clusters. Advanced manufacturing techniques offer tremendous potential in electronics, photonics, and biomedicine. Self‐assembly is a powerful strategy for creating three‐dimensional (3D) artificial structures, but existing thin film release techniques have limitations in the relatively complex processes. Herein, a localized laser scribing strategy is proposed to guide the self‐assembly of two‐dimensional thin films into 3D microstructures. It is revealed that laser‐induced heating and momentum can release thin films and roll them into various microstructures. Uniquely, this method allows accurate control of shapes, curvatures, orientations, and sizes for the fabricated rolls. This is a one‐step strategy with no pre‐patterning or post‐drying required. The proposed method represents a significant improvement over existing self‐assembly techniques and may enrich the thin film self‐assembly materials and applications. As proof of concept, the prepared gold micro‐rolls are demonstrated as implanted stents in porcine arteries with impressive flexibility. This study provides a new approach to creating 3D microstructures with simplicity and high repeatability and has significant implications for the future of advanced manufacturing, especially in emerging miniaturized applications, such as invasive robotics, minimized drug delivery, implanted batteries, and nanophotonics. Background and Aim Methods Results Discussion This study estimated the prevalence of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) according to cardiometabolic risk factors. The long‐term impacts of MASLD on all‐cause and cardiometabolic‐specific mortality were evaluated.We enrolled 343 816 adults aged ≥30 years who participated in a health screening program from 1997 through 2013. MASLD was identified on the basis of abdominal ultrasonography and metabolic profiles. The participants were further categorized by liver enzyme elevation. Baseline cardiometabolic comorbidities were classified on the basis of self‐reported medication use and clinical seromarkers. All‐cause and cardiometabolic‐specific deaths were determined through computerized data linkage with nationwide death certifications until December 31, 2020.The overall prevalence of MASLD was 36.4%. Among patients with MASLD, 35.9% had abnormal liver enzyme levels. Compared with patients without MASLD, abnormal liver enzymes were positively associated with cardiometabolic comorbidities in patients with MASLD (Pfor trend < 0.001). After follow‐up, patients with MASLD had a 9%–29% higher risk of all‐cause, cardiovascular‐related, or diabetes‐related mortality. In the groups with MASLD and elevated and normal liver enzyme levels, the multivariate‐adjusted hazard ratios for cardiovascular deaths were 1.14 (1.05–1.25) and 1.10 (1.03–1.17), respectively, and those for diabetes deaths were 1.42 (1.05–1.93) and 1.24 (0.98–1.57), respectively, compared with those in the non‐MASLD group (Pfor trend < 0.001).Individuals with MASLD and elevated liver enzyme levels exhibited significantly higher risks of all‐cause and cardiometabolic deaths and should be monitored and given consultation on cardiometabolic modifications. We are studying the mechanisms of H‐reflex operant conditioning, a simple form of learning. Modelling studies in the literature and our previous data suggested that changes in the axon initial segment (AIS) might contribute. To explore this, we used blinded quantitative histological and immunohistochemical methods to study in adult rats the impact of H‐reflex conditioning on the AIS of the spinal motoneuron that produces the reflex. Successful, but not unsuccessful, H‐reflex up‐conditioning was associated with greater AIS length and distance from soma; greater length correlated with greater H‐reflex increase. Modelling studies in the literature suggest that these increases may increase motoneuron excitability, supporting the hypothesis that they may contribute to H‐reflex increase. Up‐conditioning did not affect AIS ankyrin G (AnkG) immunoreactivity (IR), p‐p38 protein kinase IR, or GABAergic terminals. Successful, but not unsuccessful, H‐reflex down‐conditioning was associated with more GABAergic terminals on the AIS, weaker AnkG‐IR, and stronger p‐p38‐IR. More GABAergic terminals and weaker AnkG‐IR correlated with greater H‐reflex decrease. These changes might potentially contribute to the positive shift in motoneuron firing threshold underlying H‐reflex decrease; they are consistent with modelling suggesting that sodium channel change may be responsible. H‐reflex down‐conditioning did not affect AIS dimensions. This evidence that AIS plasticity is associated with and might contribute to H‐reflex conditioning adds to evidence that motor learning involves both spinal and brain plasticity, and both neuronal and synaptic plasticity. AIS properties of spinal motoneurons are likely to reflect the combined influence of all the motor skills that share these motoneurons. The CD1 and MR1 protein families present lipid antigens and small molecules to T cells, complementing well-studied major histocompatibility complex–peptide mechanisms. The CD1a subtype is highly and continuously expressed within the skin, most notably on Langerhans cells, and has been demonstrated to present self and foreign lipids to T cells, highlighting its cutaneous sentinel role. Alteration of CD1a-dependent T-cell responses has recently been discovered to contribute to the pathogenesis of several inflammatory skin diseases. Toll‐like receptors (TLRs), the key sensor molecules in vertebrates, trigger the innate immunity and prime the adaptive immune system. The TLR family of rodents, the largest order of mammals, typically contains 13 TLR genes. However, a clear picture of the evolution of the rodent TLR family has not yet emerged and the TLR evolutionary patterns are unclear in rodent clades. Here, we analyzed the natural variation and the evolutionary processes acting on the TLR family in rodents at both the interspecific and population levels. Our results showed that rodent TLRs were dominated by purifying selection, but a series of positively selected sites (PSSs) primarily located in the ligand‐binding domain was also identified. The numbers of PSSs differed among TLRs, and nonviral‐sensing TLRs had more PSSs than those in viral‐sensing TLRs. Gene‐conversion events were found between TLR1 and TLR6 in most rodent species. Population genetic analyses showed that TLR2, TLR8, and TLR12 were under positive selection in Rattus norvegicus and R. tanezumi, whereas positive selection also acted on TLR5 and TLR9 in the former species, as well as TLR1 and TLR7 in the latter species. Moreover, we found that the proportion of polymorphisms with potentially functional change was much lower in viral‐sensing TLRs than in nonviral‐sensing TLRs in both of these rat species. Our findings revealed the first thorough insight into the evolution of the rodent TLR genetic variability and provided important novel insights into the evolutionary history of TLRs over long and short timescales. Summary: Root architecture and function are critical for plants to secure water and nutrient supply from the soil, but environmental stresses alter root development. The phytohormone jasmonic acid (JA) regulates plant growth and responses to wounding and other stresses, but its role in root development for adaptation to environmental challenges had not been well investigated. We discovered a novel JA Upregulated Protein 1 gene (JAUP1) that has recently evolved in rice and is specific to modern rice accessions. JAUP1 regulates a self‐perpetuating feed‐forward loop to activate the expression of genes involved in JA biosynthesis and signalling that confers tolerance to abiotic stresses and regulates auxin‐dependent root development. Ectopic expression of JAUP1 alleviates abscisic acid‐ and salt‐mediated suppression of lateral root (LR) growth. JAUP1 is primarily expressed in the root cap and epidermal cells (EPCs) that protect the meristematic stem cells and emerging LRs. Wound‐activated JA/JAUP1 signalling promotes crosstalk between the root cap of LR and parental root EPCs, as well as induces cell wall remodelling in EPCs overlaying the emerging LR, thereby facilitating LR emergence even under ABA‐suppressive conditions. Elevated expression of JAUP1 in transgenic rice or natural rice accessions enhances abiotic stress tolerance and reduces grain yield loss under a limited water supply. We reveal a hitherto unappreciated role for wound‐induced JA in LR development under abiotic stress and suggest that JAUP1 can be used in biotechnology and as a molecular marker for breeding rice adapted to extreme environmental challenges and for the conservation of water resources. This paper extends the Bayesian stability notion of Liu (2020) to define the Bayesian stability of a market state , which consists of a matching outcome and an information structure. The information structure can be arbitrarily heterogeneous and can accommodate learning among agents. We first establish that a Bayesian stable matching function of Liu (2020) can be recast as Bayesian stable market states with homogeneous information. We then illustrate the usefulness of such an extension by (i) refining Liu's Bayesian efficiency notion to define the Bayesian efficiency of a market state and (ii) generalizing his result—that Bayesian stable matching functions are Bayesian efficient—to an analogous one for market states. More importantly, we show that (iii) a decentralized matching process converges to a Bayesian stable market state and thereby offer a decentralized foundation for Liu's Bayesian stable matching function. A series of SiC/SiC composites were fabricated through the precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process, using solid polycarbosilane (PCS) and liquid vinyl perhydrogen PCS (VHPCS) solutions as impregnating agents. The physicochemical characteristics of the SiC matrices derived from PCS and VHPCS were investigated and compared. The impact of the PCS composition on the microstructure, density, flexural strength, and modulus of the resulting SiC/SiC composites was also examined. As the VHPCS content increased to 60 wt%, the flexural strength of the composites gradually rose to a peak of 490.9 MPa before decreasing as the VHPCS proportion continued to increase. Meanwhile, the flexural modulus increased continually with the introduction of VHPCS. A possible mechanism is proposed to explain the different variations in flexural strength and modulus, taking into account the ceramic toughening principle and the distinct properties of PCS and VHPCS. Rationale: Our understanding of airway dysbiosis in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains incomplete, which may be improved by unraveling the complexity in microbial interactome. Objectives: To characterize reproducible features of airway bacterial interactome in COPD at clinical stability and during exacerbation, and evaluate their associations with disease phenotypes. Methods: We performed weighted ensemble-based co-occurrence network analysis of 1742 sputum microbiomes from published and new microbiome datasets, comprising two case-control studies of stable COPD versus healthy control, two studies of COPD stability versus exacerbation, and one study with exacerbation-recovery time series data. Results: Patients with COPD had reproducibly lower degree of negative bacterial interactions, i.e. total number of negative interactions as a proportion of total interactions, in their airway microbiome compared with healthy controls. Evaluation of the Haemophilus interactome showed that the antagonistic interaction networks of this established pathogen rather than its abundance consistently changed in COPD. Interactome dynamic analysis revealed reproducibly reduced antagonistic interactions but not diversity loss during COPD exacerbation, which recovered after treatment. In phenotypic analysis, unsupervised network clustering showed that loss of antagonistic interactions was associated with worse clinical symptoms (dyspnea), poorer lung function, exaggerated neutrophilic inflammation, and higher exacerbation risk. Furthermore, the frequent exacerbators (≥ 2 exacerbations per year) had significantly reduced antagonistic bacterial interactions while exhibiting subtle compositional changes in their airway microbiota. Conclusions: Bacterial interactome disturbance characterized by reduced antagonistic interactions, rather than change in pathogen abundance or diversity, is a reproducible feature of airway dysbiosis in COPD clinical stability and exacerbations, which suggests that we may target interactome rather than pathogen alone for disease treatment. This research focused on the synthesis of tin oxide (SnO2) by a facile sol–gel method because its advantage had a low-cost process. SnO2 was then annealed from 300℃ to 700℃ to obtain crystal nanopowders with different surface morphologies and grain sizes. In addition, ultraviolet laser processing equipment was used to fabricate an interdigitated structure on indium tin oxide (ITO) films coated on glass plates as an electrode layer of gas sensors. The annealed SnO2 nanopowder was drop-cast on the interdigitated ITO electrode as a gas detection layer. The developed gas sensors were used to detect air pollution. Moreover, a SEM, an XRD, and a four-point probe were applied to measure the morphologies, structural characteristics, and electrical properties of ITO thin films and SnO2 nanopowders, respectively. After gas detection tests, the gas sensor based on SnO2 nanopowders annealed at 600 ℃ demonstrated a relatively large response of 9.7% and fast response and recovery times of 12 s and 16 s. Furthermore, the SnO2 nanopowder-based gas sensor at a NO2 concentration of 5 ppm had better repeatability with an average response of 9.57 ± 0.22% after the 11-cycle test and an excellent sensitivity to NO2 compared to the gases CO2, H2, NO, CO, and NH3. Visualization and analysis of microstructure of materials or tissue play a pivotal role in industrial manufacturing and pathological diagnosis. Microwave-induced thermoacoustic microscopy (TAM) enables imaging at the microscopic level. TAM, however, is currently qualitative and cannot quantitatively measure intrinsic electromagnetic parameters of materials/tissue, such as conductivity. Here, we propose a quantitative microwave-induced thermoacoustic microscopy (qTAM) approach capable of quantitatively recovering conductivity using a finite element-based iterative inversion strategy coupled with thermoacoustic measurements. We validate the qTAM approach using tissue-mimicking phantoms, and demonstrate its applications to imaging flexible circuits, ex vivo rabbit bone, and rat brain tissues. Inserting an ultrathin TiN interlayer into a ferroelectric HfZrOx (HZO) film of 10 nm by in situ ALD was proposed to implement ferroelectric capacitors (FeCAPs) in this work. The FeCAPs with the structure of TiN/HZO/TiN/HZO/TiN show a high remanent polarization (2Pr) of 32.6 μC/cm2 at a low operating voltage of 2 V and a pulse width of 5 μs. Compared to those without TiN interlayer, this work shows Pr enhancement by 2.2× under partial-switching conditions (2 V/5 μs) and 50% reduction of operating voltage to achieve comparable Pr under full-switching. This work also demonstrates the triple-level cell (TLC, 3 bits/cell) storage capability and can achieve robust endurance up to 3 × 107 cycles under partial-switching endurance conditions (±2 V/5 μs) when combined with the recovery method. The promising properties are mainly attributed to the high ratio of the orthorhombic phase of the HZO film. AbstractObjectiveMethodsResultsConclusionThis study aims to analyze the clinical effects of combining carbamazepine and amitriptyline in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy with concurrent diabetic foot.A total of 120 diabetic neuropathy patients treated at our hospital from June 2022 to November 2023 were included in the study. Patients meeting the inclusion criteria were registered, and their basic data were collected. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: the control group treated with amitriptyline and the study group treated with a combination of carbamazepine and amitriptyline.The study group demonstrated significantly better clinical efficacy compared to the control group (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in psychological status and pain perception before treatment between the two groups (p > 0.05). However, post-treatment, the study group showed improved psychological status, reduced pain perception, and overall better quality of life in both physiological and psychological dimensions compared to the control group (p < 0.05).The combined use of carbamazepine and amitriptyline in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy with concurrent diabetic foot yields positive clinical outcomes. It effectively alleviates symptoms, improves psychological well-being, reduces pain sensation, and enhances overall quality of life. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a marine bacterium that can infect and cause the death of aquatic organisms. V. parahaemolyticus can also cause human foodborne infection via contaminated seafood, with clinical syndromes which include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and so on. Since controlling V. parahaemolyticus is important for aquaculture and human health, various strategies have been explored. This study investigates the application of antagonistic microorganisms to inhibit the growth of V. parahaemolyticus. We screened aquaculture environment samples and identified a Bacillus subtilis strain O-741 with potent antimicrobial activities. This strain showed a broad spectrum of antagonistic activities against V. parahaemolyticus and other Vibrio species. Application of the O-741 bacterium significantly increased the survival of Artemia nauplii which were infected with V. parahaemolyticus. Furthermore, the cell-free supernatant (CFS) of O-741 bacterium exhibited inhibitory ability against V. parahaemolyticus, and its activity was stable to heat, acidity, UV, enzymes, and organic solvents. Next, the O-741 CFS was extracted by ethyl acetate, and analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), and the functional faction was identified as an amicoumacin A compound. The organic extracts of CFS containing amicoumacin A had bactericidal effects on V. parahaemolyticus, and the treated V. parahaemolyticus cells showed disruption of the cell membrane and formation of cell cavities. These findings indicate that B. subtilis strain O-741 can inhibit the V. parahaemolyticus in vitro and in vivo, and has potential for use as a biocontrol agent for preventing V. parahaemolyticus infection. Background: Ewing sarcoma remains the second most prevalent primary aggressive bone tumor in teens and young adults. The aim of our study was to develop and validate a web-based nomogram to predict the overall survival for Ewing sarcoma in children. Methods: A total of 698 patients, with 640 cases from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (the training set) and 58 cases (the external validation set), were included in this study. Cox analyses were carried out to determine the independent prognostic indicators, which were further included to establish a web-based nomogram. The predictive abilities were tested through the concordance index, calibration curve, decision curve analysis, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: As suggested by univariate and multivariate Cox analyses, age, primary site, tumor size, metastasis stage (M stage), and chemotherapy were included as the independent predictive variables. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values, calibration curves, concordance index, and decision curve analysis from training and validation groups suggested the model has great clinical applications. Conclusion: We developed a convenient and precise web-based nomogram to evaluate overall survival for Ewing sarcoma in children. Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindl is a perennial herb of the Orchidaceae family; a yellow–green mutant and a yellow mutant were obtained from the wild type, thereby providing good material for the study of leaf color variation. Pigment content analysis revealed that chlorophyll, carotenoids, and anthocyanin were lower in the yellow–green and yellow mutants than in the wild type. Transcriptome analysis of the yellow mutant and wild type revealed that 78,712 unigenes were obtained, and 599 differentially expressed genes (120 upregulated and 479 downregulated) were identified. Using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis, candidate genes involved in the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway (five unigenes) and the chlorophyll metabolic pathway (two unigenes) were identified. Meanwhile, the low expression of the chlorophyll and anthocyanin biosynthetic genes resulted in the absence of chlorophylls and anthocyanins in the yellow mutant. With the rapid development of economic globalization and green manufacturing, traditional flexible job shop scheduling has evolved into the low-carbon heterogeneous distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem (LHDFJSP). Additionally, modern smart manufacturing processes encounter complex and diverse contingencies, necessitating the ability to address dynamic events in real-world production activities. To date, there are limited studies that comprehensively address the intricate factors associated with the LHDFJSP, including workshop heterogeneity, job insertions and transfers, and considerations of low-carbon objectives. This paper establishes a multi-objective mathematical model with the goal of minimizing the total weighted tardiness and total energy consumption. To effectively solve this problem, diverse composite scheduling rules are formulated, alongside the application of a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework, i.e., Rainbow deep-Q network (Rainbow DQN), to learn the optimal scheduling strategy at each decision point in a dynamic environment. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, this paper extends the standard dataset to adapt to the LHDFJSP. The decipherment of ancient Chinese scripts, such as oracle bone and bronze inscriptions, holds immense significance for understanding ancient Chinese history, culture, and civilization. Despite substantial progress in recognizing oracle bone script, research on the overall recognition of ancient Chinese characters remains somewhat lacking. To tackle this issue, we pioneered the construction of a large-scale image dataset comprising 9233 distinct ancient Chinese characters sourced from images obtained through archaeological excavations. We propose the first model for recognizing the common ancient Chinese characters. This model consists of four stages with Linear Embedding and Swin-Transformer blocks, each supplemented by a CoT Block to enhance local feature extraction. We also advocate for an enhancement strategy, which involves two steps: firstly, conducting adaptive data enhancement on the original data, and secondly, randomly resampling the data. The experimental results, with a top-one accuracy of 87.25% and a top-five accuracy of 95.81%, demonstrate that our proposed method achieves remarkable performance. Furthermore, through the visualizing of model attention, it can be observed that the proposed model, trained on a large number of images, is able to capture the morphological characteristics of ancient Chinese characters to a certain extent.
