Abstract

Aimed at the staring imaging requirements of the low earth orbit (LEO) satellite array camera for aerial dynamic targets, a method for target position estimation and staring attitude planning based on image miss-distance of the satellite platform is proposed. Based on the prior knowledge of the flying altitude of the aerial dynamic target, taking the latitude and longitude change rate of the target geography as the state quantity and the central pixel value of the target as the observation, an extended Kalman filter (EKF) is designed to realize the accurate smooth estimation and prediction of the geographical latitude and longitude of the target. On this basis, the attitude and angular velocity of the satellite are planned, the influence of target pixel noise and delay on attitude stability is avoided, and the position estimation of a single satellite to target is realized. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by a numerical simulation.

23. Research on Sea Surface Wind Speed FM Based on CYGNSS and HY-2B Microwave Scatterometer

Abstract

Global Navigation Satellite System Reflection (GNSS-R) technology for the retrieval of sea surface wind speed (SW) has gradually matured, and many research results in terms of methodology and accuracy have been obtained. Multisource data fusion has been a major trend in remote sensing research in recent years; however, there are few fusion algorithms in SW retrieval, and most of them retrieve the SW of a single data source. Based on the principle of Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) forward scattering and HY-2B microwave scatterometer (HSCAT-B) backscattering, this article proposes a Fusion Model (FM) of SW based on CYGNSS and HSCAT-B. For CYGNSS SW inversion using the FM, there is no need to input HSCAT-B data, and the accuracy of CYGNSS SW inversion above 10 m/s is improved. Based on the true SW data of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of SW inversion is improved from 2.517 and 1.645 m/s with a single data source to 1.527 m/s with the FM. To further correct the outliers of the FM, the result fitting model is added after the FM. The experimental results show that the RMSE of the result fitting model is improved from 1.527 m/s for the FM to 1.489 m/s. Finally, CYGNSS L2 SW and the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) data are used to verify the inversion results; the RMSE of the result fitting model is 1.688 and 1.60 m/s, respectively. The results prove the feasibility of a fusion algorithm for SW using multisource data.

36. The Effect of Sexual Objectification and Nature Exposure on Subjective Well-being

Abstract

Being subjected to sexual objectification, the isolation of a woman’s body from her personhood for the use and pleasure of others, can adversely impact mental health and lower subjective wellbeing (SWB) in women. Past research that investigated the mechanism of lowered SWB following sexual objectification mainly focused on mediators related to the internalization of sexual objectification, such as body shame; the present study seeks to examine a possible parallel mediator: ostracism. A recent study found that sexual objectification can trigger a sense of social rejection in women, and the negative psychological effects of ostracism are well-documented. Ostracism is negatively correlated to SWB as well. Thus, the present research seeks to strengthen the connection between the research on ostracism with the research on sexual objectification. At the same time, I am also interested in the therapeutic effect of nature exposure, which has been found to buffer the effect of ostracism, increase body appreciation, and increase wellbeing, but has not been studied in the context of sexual objectification. To summarize, this thesis will be examining the role of ostracism and nature exposure on the relationship between sexual objectification and SWB.

Abstract

Objectification, treating others merely as things or tools while denying their personhood, results in severe consequences. While prior research predominantly focused on the triggers of objectification, we aimed to investigate a possible intervention. We hypothesized that gratitude could reduce objectification toward general others (i.e., people who are not the benefactors). Across three studies (N = 1007), our hypothesis was supported. Study 1 showed that dispositional gratitude negatively predicted trait objectification. Studies 2 and 3 further found a causal relationship. Specifically, after heightening participants' state of gratitude, participants showed a lower level of objectification towards others (Study 2). Using a scenario study that described a working context, we further showed the alleviating effect of gratitude on objectification toward a group of factory workers, targets often suffering from objectification (Study 3). Our reported effect is prevalent, such that it is observed across samples from two countries (i.e., the United States and China). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

There is an active debate regarding whether the ego depletion effect is real. A recent preregistered experiment with the Stroop task as the depleting task and the antisaccade task as the outcome task found a medium-level effect size. In the current research, we conducted a preregistered multilab replication of that experiment. Data from 12 labs across the globe (N = 1,775) revealed a small and significant ego depletion effect, d = 0.10. After excluding participants who might have responded randomly during the outcome task, the effect size increased to d = 0.16.
