Concrete arch dams have been widely constructed worldwide, and many of these dams are located in areas with high seismic activity. However, strong seismic loading poses a severe threat to concrete arch dams, and dams have the risk of suffering damage and the possibility of an ensuing dam break. In past decades, seismic and structural health monitoring has undergone rapid growth in the context of arch dams to track the operation state of arch dams under strong seismic loading. In fact, arch dams with damage caused by seismic loading normally exhibit nonlinear dynamic behaviors and time-variable dynamic properties. To effectively identify the structural damage state development of arch dams under seismic loading, an online damage identification method using a novel recursive time-variable autoregressive with exogenous (TVARX) input model was presented in this paper. To improve the tracking capability for the time-variable coefficients of the TVARX model, an adaptive adjustment algorithm of variable weighting factors was incorporated into the recursive least-squares method. In the proposed method, the predicted model residual, a damage index named the fit ratio (FR), the difference between fit ratios (DF), and a damage index based on the change in ARX model parameters (CH) were proposed to identify the presence of damage, damage area, and relative damage extent for arch dams. Eventually, the proposed approach was used for the online damage state identification of arch dams in a numerical simulation example and a shaking table test, and the identification results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The stress behavior of key parts of concrete dams is related to the safe operation of the dam. However, the stress sensors in concrete are susceptible to aging and failure with increasing service life. Estimating the structural stress under sensor failure or data loss scenarios for concrete dams in service is essential and complex. This study presents a stress estimation method driven by the observation data. Firstly, a one-to-one correspondence exists between dam deformation reflecting the load effect and structural stress. Estimating the structural stress by simulating load effects with dam deformation is more convenient when it is hard to simulate complex load effects directly. Therefore, based on the observed data before stress sensor failure, the spatial–temporal relationship between structure stress and multi-point deformations of a concrete dam is developed using convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM). An improved particle swarm optimization algorithm combined with swarm information entropy (SIE–APSO) is proposed simultaneously for tuning the network's hyperparameter and accelerating the convergence. Finally, the stress estimation of the target part of the concrete dam in service is obtained. The case shows that it is valid and feasible. The RMSE decreased by approximately 21–58%, MAPE decreased by 19–58%, and ARV decreased by 22–94% compared with the load-stress relationship model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly fatal malignant worldwide. As different expression levels of specific genes can lead to different HCC outcomes, we aimed to develop a gene signature capable of predicting HCC prognosis., Methods: In this study, transcriptomic sequencing and relevant clinical data were extracted from public platforms. The guanine monophosphate synthase (GMPS)|receptor activity-modifying protein 3 (RAMP3) gene pair was developed based on the relative values of gene expression levels. Nomograms were developed using R software. Immune status was assessed through single-sample gene set enrichment analysis. GMPS knockdown was achieved through siRNA transfection. Quantitative reverse transcription PCR, apoptosis assays, and cell proliferation were performed to verify the function of GMPS|RAMP3 in HCC cells., Results: Here, a gene pair containing GMPS and RAMP3 was successfully constructed. We demonstrated that the GMPS|RAMP3 gene pair was an independent predictor with strong prognostic prediction power, based on which a nomogram was established. Functional analysis revealed that the enrichment of cell cycle-related pathways and immune status differed considerably between the two groups, with cell cycle-related genes highly expressed in the high GMPS|RAMP3 value group.
