Self-healing materials span diverse application fields, including flexible electronics, soft robotics, and energy devices. However, conventional self-healing materials pose a challenge in achieving the delicate balance between flexibility and electrical conductivity. Moreover, they also suffer from prolonged healing times, incomplete healing, and high manufacturing costs. Liquid metals possess excellent self-healing capabilities owing to their unique combination of fluidic and metallic properties, high surface tension, and reversible solid-liquid phase change at room temperature, offering an intriguing material option for addressing the challenges associated with flexibility and electrical conductivity. In this review article, we comprehensively examine the domain of self-healing liquid metals from the standpoint of typical mechanisms underlying self-healing processes, as well as practical strategies employed for achieving such rejuvenation. Additionally, we explore representative applications that showcase the potential of these materials while aiming to provide a valuable reference for advancing and enhancing the field of self-healing materials. Future prospect along this direction is made.

Abstract Background Facial infiltrating lipomatosis is characterized by excessive growth of adipose tissue. Its etiology is associated with somatic phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase catalytic subunit alpha (PIK3CA) variants, but the specific mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Methods We collected facial adipose tissue from both FIL patients and non-FIL individuals, isolated the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and performed single-cell transcriptome sequencing on these samples. Results We mapped out the cellular landscape within the SVF, with a specific focus on a deeper analysis of fibro-adipogenic precursor cells (FAPs). Our analysis revealed that FAPs from FIL patients (FIL-FAPs) significantly overexpressed FK506 binding protein 51 (FKBP5) compared to FAPs from individuals without FIL. Further experiments indicated that FKBP5 is regulated by the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. The overactivation of this pathway led to an increase in FKBP5 expression. In vitro experiments demonstrated that FKBP5 promoted adipogenic differentiation of FAPs, a process that could be hindered by FKBP5 knockdown or inhibition. Additionally, in vivo assessments confirmed FKBP5’s role in adipogenesis. Conclusions These insights into the pathogenesis of FIL underscore FKBP5 as a promising target for developing non-surgical interventions to manage the excessive adipose tissue growth in FIL.

Abstract Hemangioma of infancy is the most common vascular tumor during infancy and childhood. Despite the proven efficacy of propranolol treatment, certain patients still encounter resistance or face recurrence. The need for frequent daily medication also poses challenges to patient adherence. Bleomycin (BLM) has demonstrated effectiveness against vascular anomalies, yet its use is limited by dose-related complications. Addressing this, this study proposes a novel approach for treating hemangiomas using BLM-loaded hyaluronic acid (HA)-based microneedle (MN) patches. BLM is encapsulated during the synthesis of polylactic acid (PLA) microspheres (MPs). The successful preparation of PLA MPs and MN patches is confirmed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The HA microneedles dissolve rapidly upon skin insertion, releasing BLM@PLA MPs. These MPs gradually degrade within 28 days, providing a sustained release of BLM. Comprehensive safety assessments, including cell viability, hemolysis ratio, and intradermal reactions in rabbits, validate the safety of MN patches. The BLM@PLA-MNs exhibit an effective inhibitory efficiency against hemangioma formation in a murine hemangioma model. Of significant importance, RNA-seq analysis reveals that BLM@PLA-MNs exert their inhibitory effect on hemangiomas by regulating the P53 pathway. In summary, BLM@PLA-MNs emerge as a promising clinical candidate for the effective treatment of hemangiomas. Graphical Abstract

Abstract A global outbreak of monkeypox (mpox) caused by the mpox virus (MPXV) has posed a serious threat to public health worldwide, thus calling for the urgent development of antivirals and vaccines to curb its further spread. In this study, we screened 41 anhydride‐modified proteins and found that 3‐hydroxyphthalic anhydride‐modified β‐lactoglobulin (3HP‐β‐LG), a clinically used anti‐HPV agent, was highly effective in inhibiting infection of vaccinia virus Tiantan strain (VACV‐VTT) and MPXV. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that 3HP‐β‐LG bound to the virus, not the host cell, by targeting the early stage of virus entry, possibly through the interaction between the amino acids with negatively charges in 3HP‐β‐LG and the key amino acids with positive charges in the target region of A29L, a key surface protein of MPXV. A synergistic effect was observed when 3HP‐β‐LG was combined with tecovirimat, a small‐molecule antiviral drug approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicine Agency for the treatment of smallpox and mpox. Because of its clinically proven safety and stability, 3HP‐β‐LG shows promise for further development as a prophylactic agent to prevent the sexual transmission of MPXV.

Summary: Facial infiltrating lipomatosis (FIL) is a congenital disorder. The pathogenesis of FIL is associated with PIK3CA mutations, but the underlying mechanisms remain undetermined. We found that the adipose tissue in FIL demonstrated adipocytes hypertrophy and increased lipid accumulation. All adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells from FIL (FIL-ADSCs) harbored PIK3CA mutations. Moreover, FIL-ADSCs exhibited a greater capacity for adipogenesis. Knockdown of PIK3CA resulted in a reduction in the adipogenic potential of FIL-ADSCs. Furthermore, WX390, a dual-target PI3K/mTOR inhibitor, was found to impede PIK3CA-mediated adipogenesis both in vivo and in vitro. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) revealed that the expression of transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1) was upregulated after PI3K pathway inhibition, and overexpression or activation of TRPV1 both inhibited adipogenesis. Our study showed that PIK3CA mutations promoted adipogenesis in FIL-ADSCs and this effect was achieved by suppressing TPRV1. Pathogenesis experiments suggested that WX390 may serve as an agent for the treatment of FIL.

Abstract Background Facial infiltrating lipomatosis (FIL) is a rare condition characterized by congenital facial enlargement. Beyond its impact on physical appearance, FIL can also impair essential facial functions such as swallowing, chewing, vision, and breathing, imposing a substantial physiological and psychological burden. Currently, fewer than 80 cases of FIL have been reported, and the characteristics and management strategies for FIL remain unclear. Methods We reviewed the clinical, surgical, and radiological records of 39 FIL patients who were treated at our center. Of these, genetic testing was performed for 21 patients. Results Aberrant overgrowth involves subcutaneous fat, bones, muscles, glands, tongue, lips, and teeth. Epidermal nevi could be observed in the dermatomes innervated by the three branches of the trigeminal nerve, with the highest frequency seen in the dermatome of the mandibular branch. Four patients exhibited concurrent hemimegalencephaly (HMEG), with one case presenting HMEG on the opposite side of the FIL. Nineteen patients were confirmed to harbor the PIK3CA mutation. Thirty-three patients underwent surgical procedures, with a post resection recurrence rate of approximately 25%. Conclusions A variety of maxillofacial structures may be involved in FIL. PIK3CA mutations are important pathogenic factors. Emerging targeted therapies could present an additional treatment avenue in the future. However, surgery currently remains the predominant treatment choice for FIL. The timing and modality of surgery should be individually customized, taking into account each patient's unique circumstances. Notably, there is a significant possibility of postoperative recurrence during childhood and adolescence, necessitating early strategic planning of disease management.

A new type of Nb containing hot formed steel was designed based on traditional 22MnB5 steel, and the effect of Nb on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the hot formed steel at different quenching rates was studied. The new Nb microalloyed hot formed steel and the widely used 22MnB5 commercial steel were both subjected to solution treatment at 900 ℃ for 3 min, followed by water quenching and oil quenching to room temperature, respectively. The mechanical properties of the two steels were tested under two quenching conditions. And the alloy microstructure was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), backscattered electron diffraction (EBSD), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that Nb microalloyed hot formed steel and 22MnB5 steel can undergo significant self tempering during oil quenching, but the yield strength of the former is about 130 MPa higher than that of the latter, and the elongation is also slightly improved. The quantitative calculations of the strengthening mechanism indicate that this is due to the fine grain strengthening formed by grain refinement of Nb containing steel, as well as the combined effect of dislocation strengthening and precipitation strengthening. Under water quenching conditions, the yield strength and elongation of both steels are similar, suggesting that the high cooling rate inhibits self tempering, making the residual stress generated by martensitic transformation the dominant factor affecting yield strength. When the water quenched sample is tempered at 170 ℃ to reduce internal stress, the yield strength of Nb containing steel is once again higher than that of 22MnB5 steel.

Delirium in critical ill patients is a complex and common neurological syndrome in the intensive care unit (ICU) that is caused by a range of structural or functional abnormalities. ICU Delirium is associated with reduced compliance, prolonged hospital stays, greater use or delayed withdrawal of sedatives, higher rates and durations of mechanical ventilation, and higher rates of mortality. The aetiology and pathogenesis of ICU delirium are unclear, and the lack of better prediction, prevention, and treatment measures leads to a non-standardized control of delirium. By searching the relevant literature, we aim in this narrative review to describe progress in the pathogenesis, predictive biomarkers, diagnosis, and treatment of ICU delirium.

Summary: Previous studies have postulated that the urethral vasculature (UV) might play an important role in urinary continence for women. The goal of this research was to compare the UV in pre- and post-menopausal women using a super-resolution ultrasound imaging method called Super Ultrasound for Greater Accuracy and Resolution (SUGAR). We found that post-menopausal women exhibited decreased UV parameters such as fractal dimension, vessel proportion, and mean blood vessel diameter than pre-menopausal women. We also discriminated the vascular pattern in several layers of the urethra and its surrounding in vivo, including the urethral mucosa and submucosa, urethral muscle, and anterior vaginal wall. Besides, the statistical analysis of the vasculature pattern showed that most of the UV parameters peaked at mid-urethra. Ultimately, the UV parameters exhibited a tendency of first increasing, then reducing, and finally decreasing with age.

BackgroundPrevious studies mainly focused on risk factors in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia. The aim of the study was to provide basis for preventing MCI in cognitive normal populations.MethodsThe data came from a longitudinal retrospective study involving individuals with brain magnetic resonance imaging scans, clinical visits, and cognitive assessment with interval of more than 3 years. Multiple machine-learning technologies, including random forest, support vector machine, logistic regression, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, and naïve Bayes, were used to establish a prediction model of a future risk of MCI through a combination of clinical and image variables.ResultsAmong these machine learning models; eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) was the best classification model. The classification accuracy of clinical variables was 65.90%, of image variables was 79.54%, of a combination of clinical and image variables was 94.32%. The best result of the combination was an accuracy of 94.32%, a precision of 96.21%, and a recall of 93.08%. XGB with a combination of clinical and image variables had a potential prospect for the risk prediction of MCI. From clinical perspective, the degree of white matter hyperintensity (WMH), especially in the frontal lobe, and the control of systolic blood pressure (SBP) were the most important risk factor for the development of MCI.ConclusionThe best MCI classification results came from the XGB model with a combination of both clinical and imaging variables. The degree of WMH in the frontal lobe and SBP control were the most important variables in predicting MCI.

Abstract Background After the eradication of smallpox in China in 1979, vaccination with the vaccinia virus (VACV) Tiantan strain for the general population was stopped in 1980. As the monkeypox virus (MPXV) is rapidly spreading in the world, we would like to investigate whether the individuals with historic VACV Tiantan strain vaccination, even after more than 40 years, could still provide ELISA reactivity and neutralizing protection; and whether the unvaccinated individuals have no antibody reactivity against MPXV at all. Results We established serologic ELISA to measure the serum anti-MPXV titer by using immunodominant MPXV surface proteins, A35R, B6R, A29L, and M1R. A small proportion of individuals (born before 1980) with historic VACV Tiantan strain vaccination exhibited serum ELISA cross-reactivity against these MPXV surface proteins. Consistently, these donors also showed ELISA seropositivity and serum neutralization against VACV Tiantan strain. However, surprisingly, some unvaccinated young adults (born after 1980) also showed potent serum ELISA activity against MPXV proteins, possibly due to their past infection by some self-limiting Orthopoxvirus (OPXV). Conclusions We report the serum ELISA cross-reactivity against MPXV surface protein in a small proportion of individuals both with and without VACV Tiantan strain vaccination history. Combined with our serum neutralization assay against VACV and the recent literature about mice vaccinated with VACV Tiantan strain, our study confirmed the anti-MPXV cross-reactivity and cross-neutralization of smallpox vaccine using VACV Tiantan strain. Therefore, it is necessary to restart the smallpox vaccination program in high risk populations.

Objective To compare the tooth drift differences between different types of patients after orthodontic extraction for 1.5 months (45 days) without return to the clinic on time for some reasons. Methods This study has been reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee, and informed consent has been obtained from patients. A total of 84 patients had bilateral premolars extracted but were not bonded the bracket for some reasons. The upper and lower jaw dental models were cast, scanned, and reconstructed in 3D. Patients were divided into 12 groups based on extraction positions (first premolar or second premolar), jaw types (maxilla or mandible) and vertical facial types (average angle, high angle, or low angle). Multivariate analysis of variance was used to analyze the changes in the following five indicators in different types of patients who were interrupted for 1.5 months after extraction: anterior tooth crowding, width between canines, width between first molars, tooth extraction space, and overbite of anterior teeth. Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are serious congenital vascular anomalies in which the arteries connect directly with veins without capillaries. This condition will continue to worsen without proper intervention and cause ulcers, repeated hemorrhages, and even cardiac insufficiency. Primary treatment options for AVMs include surgery and interventional treatment; however, they are associated with high risk and recurrence rates. Recent studies revealed that excessive activation of the Ras/MAPK pathway can induce the formation and development of peripheral AVM, whereas MEK inhibitors can effectively control nidus progression, making them a potential novel treatment for AVM. This review provides an up-to-date overview of correlated laboratory and clinical research to provide information for further research and clinical practice.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are aggressive congenital high-flow vascular anomalies, in which the feeding artery and draining vein are connected through fistulas without normal capillary networks. In severe cases, the condition may cause swelling, ulceration, bleeding, and even heart failure. Various treatment options are available for AVMs, including laser, surgical resection, embolization, and targeted drug therapy. With the development of endovascular treatment technology, absolute ethanol embolization of AVMs has become one of the first-line therapies owing to its sustained efficacy and low recurrence rate. However, administration of this therapy is challenging and may lead to serious complications if inappropriately managed. In this article, we reviewed and summarized previous clinical articles, literature reviews, and clinical trial data to comprehensively describe clinical manifestations of AVMs, the mechanism of ethanol embolotherapy, key points in treatment and management of complications, and issues that need to be addressed. We expect to provide a reliable information reference source for clinical physicians and researchers.

Despite the ongoing discrimination that hinders women’s full participation in urban life, the International Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize the eradication of violence against women and underscore the need for regulatory measures, local governance, and equitable practices for sustainable urban development focusing on women’s needs. The women-inclusive cities related (WICR) studies, which have been gaining academic attention since the late 1990s, remain broadly explored yet lack a holistic trajectory and trend study and a precise women-inclusive city concept framework. This study applies bibliometric analysis with R-package Bibliometrix version 3.3.2 and a systematic review of 1144 articles, mapping global trends and providing a framework for women-inclusive city concepts. The findings show that WICR research increased significantly from 1998 to 2022, indicating continuous interest. Gender, women, and politics are the top three most frequent keywords. Emerging research directions are expected to focus on politics, violence, and urban governance. The findings also indicate a clear tendency for researchers from the same geographical backgrounds or regions to co-author papers, suggesting further international collaboration. Although no explicit definitions were found in the articles used, the prevailing literature consistently suggests that a “woman-inclusive city” ensures full rights, equal consideration of needs, and the active participation of women in all aspects of urban life.

Abstract Background Facial infiltrating lipomatosis (FIL) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by unilateral facial swelling, for which surgery is the prevailing therapeutic option. Several studies have shown that the development of FIL is closely associated with PIK3CA mutations. This study aimed to further identify rare clinical features and underlying molecular variants in patients with FIL. Results Eighteen patients were included in this study, and all patients presented with infiltrating adipose tissues confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Macrodactyly, polydactyly, hemimegalencephaly and hemihyperplasia were also observed in patients with FIL. In total, eight different PIK3CA mutations were detected in tissues obtained from sixteen patients, including the missense mutations p.His1047Arg (n = 4), p.Cys420Arg (n = 2), p.Glu453Lys (n = 2), p.Glu542Lys (n = 2), p.Glu418Lys (n = 1), p.Glu545Lys (n = 1), and p.His1047Tyr (n = 1) and the deletion mutation p.Glu110del (n = 3). Furthermore, the GNAQ mutation p.Arg183Gln was detected in the epidermal nevus tissue of one patient. Imaging revealed that several patients carrying hotspot mutations had more severe adipose infiltration and skeletal deformities. Conclusions The abundant clinical presentations and genetic profiles of FIL make it difficult to treat. PIK3CA mutations drive the pathogenesis of FIL, and PIK3CA hotspot mutations may lead to more extensive infiltration of lipomatosis. Understanding the molecular variant profile of FIL will facilitate the application of novel PI3K-targeted inhibitors.

The first topic covered in this paper is the development of cultural confidence among college students within the context of the Internet, including its manifestations, characteristics, and value implications. Secondly, elite guidance is used to carry out adaptive parameter optimization of the BSO algorithm, and then horizontal and dynamic cultural communication strategies are proposed. Finally, an examination is conducted on college students' current state of cultural self-confidence. The results show that the average knowledge of cultural confidence of different majors is 0.0477, 0.3097, 0.4492 and 0.1935, respectively, and 882 college students indicate that they are very familiar with the knowledge of social core values. It follows that to foster college students’ cultural confidence, society and families must work with colleges and universities to encourage students to identify with and have confidence in Chinese culture.

Facial infiltrating lipomatosis (FIL) is a congenital asymmetrical deformity of the maxillofacial region that can significantly affect a patient’s facial appearance and function. With the development of sequencing technologies, PIK3CA mutations are considered among the potential etiologies of FIL. The management and treatment of FIL involves plastic surgery; more recently, an improved understanding of its pathogenesis has given rise to new treatment options, including targeted therapy. Here we report the clinical data of two patients diagnosed with FIL and present current curative concepts.

We reported a case of an elderly female patient with multi-organ involvement of the ear, eye, nose and heart, with elevated serum inflammatory markers and IgG4, and negative anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies. The patient was suspected to have granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) combined with IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD), because both GPA and IgG4-RD can lead to multi-organ involvement, with similar clinical manifestations and consistency in treatment. After treatment with high-dose glucocorticoid combined with cyclophosphamide, the clinical symptoms were relieved. The patient also had a high degree of atrioventricular block (AVB), which is rare in both GPA and IgG4-RD. In this paper we discuss the characteristics of the overlap syndrome, the diagnosis and treatment of this patient and the possible pathological mechanism of AVB, in order to provide reference for clinical treatment.

With the phosphoric acid activation method, the composite activated carbon was prepared by using sawdust as the carbon source and steel slag as the active filler to degrade formaldehyde. The formaldehyde degradation performance of composite activated carbon was tested in accordance with GB 18580—2017. The effects of percentage of steel slag mass, activation temperature, and impregnation ratio on the formaldehyde degradation performance were investigated. In order to reveal the synergistic effect of steel slag and sawdust in the preparation process and mechanism of formaldehyde degradation, the chemical composition of raw materials was tested by the elemental analyzer and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry(XRF), the pore structure was tested by specific surface area and porosity analyzer and the microscopic morphology was tested by the scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results show that with the increase of percentage of steel slag mass, activation temperature and impregnation ratio, the formaldehyde degradation performance of steel slag/sawdust composite activated carbon shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. The optimal preparation condition is as follows: percentage of steel slag mass is 25%, activation temperature is 450 ℃ and impregnation ratio is 1.5. The composite activated carbon prepared under this condition has a formaldehyde degradation rate of 40.7% after 2 h. Furthermore, the steel slag/sawdust composite activated carbon shows a large number of pore structures, with clear layered structure. Steel slag is better wrapped in the porous structure of activated carbon, which is conducive to forming a porous structure dominated by micropores and increases the microspore ratio. Hence, it provides more adsorption sites for formaldehyde adsorption, and further improves the performance of formaldehyde degradation.

The creep deformation and damage mechanism of compacted graphite cast iron (CGI) with varying pearlite contents were studied at 450 °C, 500 °C, and 550 °C, with accompanying stress ranges from 40 MPa to 150 MPa. The creep deformation of CGI alloys presents obvious when the temperature exceeds 450 °C. The creep rate exponentially decreases with pearlite contents and the creep mechanism changes from dislocation slip to grain boundary sliding. There are (Ⅰ) intergranular and transgranular cracks, (Ⅱ) interfacial debonding between graphite and matrix, and (Ⅲ) pearlite morphologic transforming in the microstructure of CGI during the creep test. (Ⅰ) and (Ⅱ) are mainly caused by the creep stress and temperature, and (Ⅲ) may be related to plastic deformation. These cracks can interact with each other and accelerate the failure and fracture of materials.

Objective: This study aimed to provide clinical evidence for lineage replacement and genetic changes of High-Risk Human Papillomavirus (HR-HPV) during the period of vaccine coverage and characterize those changes in eastern China. Methods: This study consisted of two stages. A total of 90,583 patients visiting the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University from March 2018 to March 2022 were included in the HPV typing analysis. Another 1076 patients who tested positive for HPV31, 33, 52, or 58 from November 2020 to August 2023 were further included for HPV sequencing. Vaccination records, especially vaccine types and the third dose administration time, medical history, and cervical cytology samples were collected. Viral DNA sequencing was then conducted, followed by phylogenetic analysis and sequence alignment. Results: The overall proportion of HPV31 and 58 infections increased by 1.23% and 0.51%, respectively, while infection by HPV33 and 52 decreased by 0.42% and 1.43%, respectively, within the four-year vaccination coverage period. The proportion of HPV31 C lineage infections showed a 22.17% increase in the vaccinated group, while that of the HPV58 A2 sublineage showed a 12.96% increase. T267A and T274N in the F-G loop of HPV31 L1 protein, L150F in the D-E loop, and T375N in the H-I loop of HPV58 L1 protein were identified as high-frequency escape-related mutations. Conclusions: Differences in epidemic lineage changes and dominant mutation accumulation may result in a proportional difference in trends of HPV infection. New epidemic lineages and high-frequency escape-related mutations should be noted during the vaccine coverage period, and regional epidemic variants should be considered during the development of next-generation vaccines.

The typical occlusion of cherry tomatoes in the natural environment is one of the most critical factors affecting the accurate picking of cherry tomato picking robots. To recognize occluded cherry tomatoes accurately and efficiently using deep convolutional neural networks, a new occluded cherry tomato recognition model DSP-YOLOv7-CA is proposed. Firstly, images of cherry tomatoes with different degrees of occlusion are acquired, four occlusion areas and four occlusion methods are defined, and a cherry tomato dataset (TOSL) is constructed. Then, based on YOLOv7, the convolution module of the original residual edges was replaced with null residual edges, depth-separable convolutional layers were added, and jump connections were added to reuse feature information. Then, a depth-separable convolutional layer is added to the SPPF module with fewer parameters to replace the original SPPCSPC module to solve the problem of loss of small target information by different pooled residual layers. Finally, a coordinate attention mechanism (CA) layer is introduced at the critical position of the enhanced feature extraction network to strengthen the attention to the occluded cherry tomato. The experimental results show that the DSP-YOLOv7-CA model outperforms other target detection models, with an average detection accuracy (mAP) of 98.86%, and the number of model parameters is reduced from 37.62MB to 33.71MB, which is better on the actual detection of cherry tomatoes with less than 95% occlusion. Relatively average results were obtained on detecting cherry tomatoes with a shade level higher than 95%, but such cherry tomatoes were not targeted for picking. The DSP-YOLOv7-CA model can accurately recognize the occluded cherry tomatoes in the natural environment, providing an effective solution for accurately picking cherry tomato picking robots.

Under the background of global climate change, the role of carbon storage in mitigating the increase of atmospheric CO2 concentrations is of paramount importance. However, land use and land cover change (LULC) resulting from urban sprawl disturbs the level and distribution of carbon storage. This study aims to explore the spatiotemporal variability of carbon storage and the correlations between that and urban development for China’s 369 cities in 2000, 2010, and 2020. The InVEST model and several multiple linear regression models are employed and the results show that: (1) Cities in western China sequester a large amount of carbon (maximum greater than 2000 TgC) and only some of them, from 2010 to 2020, can maintain a positive change in carbon storage. The rest of China shows a negative change, but a higher carbon storage per area (maximum greater than 0.01 TgC/km2 in the east). Moran's I shows that such variability has a significant spatial autocorrelation. (2) The intensification of the population, the growth of economy, and urbanization are the main factors influencing carbon storage, which are not only reflected on the national scale but also have different local characteristics in different regions. Cities in China's inland regions (e.g., western, some central, and northeastern China), most of which are developing cities, show more diversified impacts of their urban development on carbon storage. However, in developed cities, mostly concentrated in the eastern region, such impacts and variations show a more unified trend. Considering that environmental policy is often a national action, therefore, to strengthen the carbon sequestration capacity of cities, it is necessary to formulate not only a unified leading policy from the national level but also the practical policies of local governments of cities that match their development stages.

The interlayer properties of the CRTS III slab track during construction directly affect its long-term service condition. This article introduces time-varying coefficients that characterize the early properties of the interface between track slab and SCC to improve the bilinear CZM. Based on this, an interlayer property evolution model of the CRTS III slab track during construction is established. The evolution mechanism of interlayer properties under complex loads and the influence mechanism of key parameters on them are revealed. The results show that after SCC pouring, the interlayer damage at the corner of the slab becomes a sensitive area due to the combined effects of SCC shrinkage and temperature gradients. Interlayer damage initially manifests at the corner of the slab before progressively spreading toward the center of the slab, influencing the composite performance and force transmission characteristics of the track structure. The interlayer bonding property, shrinkage performance of SCC, and construction temperature substantially affect interlayer damage evolution. To reduce the risk of damage, mineral admixtures and expansion agents can be added as additives to improve the bonding property and minimize shrinkage of SCC. Insulation measures should be taken for SCC during low-temperature construction, and SCC pouring construction below 0 °C and above 30 °C should be avoided.

In this review, the extraction, purification, structural characterization and bioactivity of polysaccharides from Opuntia dillenii Haw. were summarized. This review provides a theoretical basis for the in-depth development and utilization of the polysaccharides.

High repetition frequency (HRF) ultrashort pulse fiber laser has been widely used in laser cold processing. The technical solutions such as short cavity length fiber laser have been proposed to achieve HRF ultrashort pulse output recently. However, the application of material-based saturable absorbers in this field has been astricted due to the low modulation depth, low damage resistance threshold, and high saturation fluence. Here, we designed a one-dimensional asymmetric photonic crystal with defect layer (1D-APCDL) as a novel saturable absorber, where the defect layer is Bi1.6Sb0.4Te3 with high modulation depth. The harmonic pulse with 3.82 GHz repetition frequency is achieved at the wavelength of 1562 nm, which is the highest repetition frequency of the topological insulator-based ring fiber laser so far to the best of our knowledge. The research provides a new saturable absorber solution, and provides a new idea for the application of material-based nonlinear optical chip in high-repetition frequency ultrashort pulse fiber lasers.

Manipulating single emitter radiation is essential for quantum information science. Significant progress has been made in enhancing the radiation efficiency and directivity by coupling quantum emitters with microcavities and plasmonic antennas. However, there has been a great challenge to generate complex radiation patterns such as vortex beam from a single emitter. Here, we report a chiral plasmonic nanocavity, which provides a strong local chiral vacuum field at an exceptional point. We show that a single linear dipole emitter embedded in the nanocavity will radiate to vortex beam via anomalous spontaneous emission with a Purcell enhancement factor up to ∼1000. Our scheme provides a new field manipulation method for chiral quantum optics and vortex lasers at the nanoscale.

Background: We previously reported that interstitial injection of bleomycin (BLM) reduces the size of early-stage extracranial arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Here, we sought to investigate the potential mechanism of BLM in treating extracranial AVM. Methods: Samples of human extracranial AVM (n=3) with no pharmacological treatment were harvested. AVM endothelial cells were isolated and cultured in primary cell culture. The transcriptome was examined using RNA-sequencing, and differentially expressed C-type lectin domain family 14 member A (CLEC14A) was validated at the transcriptomic and protein levels. Immunocytochemical staining of CLEC14A was performed in samples of human extracranial AVM, with and without BLM treatment. Results: Through second-generation sequencing, we found that the expression of 5 689 genes were differentially increased or decreased following 24-h BLM stimulation. We found that CLEC14A may play an important role in the progression of AVM and can be inhibited by BLM treatment. Conclusion: BLM inhibited CLEC14A expression to attenuate the progression of AVM.

Objective: To detect the antifungal effect of the novel imidazoles 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 and 44 on Candida albicans, and explore the mechanism of the antifungal effect preliminarily. Methods: The inhibitory effects of 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 and 44 on Candida albicans standard strains SC5314, ATCC90028 and clinical isolates were observed through susceptibility test in vitro (the concentration gradients of fluconazole, 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 and 44 were all set in 0.25-128.00 μg/mL), hyphal inhibition test (the concentration gradients of fluconazole, 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 and 44 were all set in 0, 2.00, 8.00, 16.00 μg/mL) and crystal violet staining cell coun-ting test (the concentration gradients of fluconazole, 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 and 44 were all set 2.00, 8.00, 16.00, 64.00 μg/mL). The morphological changes of membrane and organelles in Candida albicans were observed by transmission electron microscopy when they were cultured with 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 (0.50 μg/mL) and 44 (2.00 μg/mL). Results: The susceptibility test in vitro showed that the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of fluconazole, new drug 19, and new drug 44 on Candida albicans SC5314 were 1.00, 0.50, and 2.00 μg/mL, respectively. The clinical isolates of Candida albicans 21897, 210 and 141 were all fluconazole-resistant strains (MIC>128.00 μg/mL). The MICs of new drug 19 on three type isolates were 64.00 μg/mL,> 128.00 μg/mL and 64.00 μg/mL, and the MICs of new drug 44 on them were 8.00 μg/mL, 16.00 μg/mL and 16.00 μg/mL, respectively. The mycelial inhibition experiment showed that the mycelial growth of Candida albicans SC5314 was significantly inhibited in the culture medium containing fluconazole and the novel drugs 19 and 44, and the higher the drug concentration (≤64.00 μg/mL). The inhibitory effects of new drugs 19 and 44 were better than fluconazole as the drug concentrations were 8.00 μg/ml or 64.00 μg/mL. Transmission electron microscopy showed that fluconazole and the novel drugs 19 and 44 led the cell membrane of SC5314 to become uneven and coarse in texture, which was obviously different from that of drug-free control. Conclusions: The new imidazoles 2-imidazole-2, 4-pentadienone 19 and 44 show strong inhibitory effects on Candida albicans by changing the structure of cell membrane.

Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a global wheat disease that devastates wheat production. Resistance to FHB spread within a wheat spike (type II resistance) and to mycotoxin accumulation in infected kernel (type III resistance) are the two main types of resistance. Of hundreds of QTL that have been reported, only a few can be used in wheat breeding because most show minor and/or inconsistent effects in different genetic backgrounds. We describe a new strategy for identifying robust and reliable meta-QTL (mQTL) that can be used for improvement of wheat FHB resistance. It involves integration of mQTL analysis with mQTL physical mapping and identification of single-copy markers and candidate genes. Using meta-analysis, we consolidated 625 original QTL from 113 publications into 118 genetic map-based mQTL (gmQTL). These gmQTL were further located on the Chinese Spring reference sequence map. Finally, 77 high-confidence mQTL (hcmQTL) were selected from the reference sequence-based mQTL (smQTL). Locus-specific single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and 17 genes responsive to FHB were then identified in the hcmQTL intervals by combined analysis of transcriptomic and proteomic data. This work may lead to a comprehensive molecular breeding platform for improving wheat resistance to FHB.

To assess the effect of respiratory movement on dose distribution via intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in patients with lung cancer based on real respiratory movement parameters. Twenty-seven patients with lung cancer who underwent four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) and received IMRT were analyzed retrospectively to determine the three-dimensional tumor motion amplitude and respiratory period. Based on the above movement parameters, the dose distribution of the tumor on the respiratory movement platform in the head-foot and left-right directions was measured. The difference in IMRT dose distribution between the respiratory motion and static states was compared using the two-dimensional gamma analysis method, and the effect of respiratory motion on dose verification was analyzed. The mean respiratory motion period of patients was 3.3 s, and the mean tumor motion amplitude in the head-foot direction (5.6 mm) was greater than that in the left-right direction (2.1 mm) and the anterior-posterior direction (2.3 mm), with the maximum at 18 mm. The γ-passage rate tended to decrease gradually with the increase intumor motion amplitude. When the tumor motion amplitude was greater than 3 mm, the γ passage rate was less than 95% in most beams. The differences of γ-passage rates grouped by the median respiratory period were statistically significant in the left-right directional motion state. IMRT dose validation in lung canceris affected by the amplitude of tumor motion and the respiratory motion cycle. Respiratory motion management techniques are recommended for patients with a large respiratory motion amplitude to improve the accuracy of dose delivery to the target.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic poses a global threat to public health and economy. The continuously emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants present a major challenge to the development of antiviral agents and vaccines. In this study, we identified that EK1 and cholesterol-coupled derivative of EK1, EK1C4, as pan-CoV fusion inhibitors, exhibit potent antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 infection in both lung- and intestine-derived cell lines (Calu-3 and Caco2, respectively). They are also effective against infection of pseudotyped SARS-CoV-2 variants B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and B.1.1.248 (Gamma) as well as those with mutations in S protein, including N417T, E484K, N501Y, and D614G, which are common in South African and Brazilian variants. Crystal structure revealed that EK1 targets the HR1 domain in the SARS-CoV-2 S protein to block virus-cell fusion and provide mechanistic insights into its broad and effective antiviral activity. Nasal administration of EK1 peptides to hACE2 transgenic mice significantly reduced viral titers in lung and intestinal tissues. EK1 showed good safety profiles in various animal models, supporting further clinical development of EK1-based pan-CoV fusion inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants.

ABSTRACT: Background: Despite many advances in the treatment for extracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), they still result in tedious dissection and potential unacceptable complications, particularly in children. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of intralesional interstitial injection of bleomycin for the treatment of children with AVMs. Methods: A total of 10 children (6 boys and 4 girls) with AVMs were treated with serial interstitial bleomycin injections between May 2014 and January 2017. Maximum single doses of 15 U and 1 U/kg per session were administered for six sessions at a 1-month interval. Therapeutic effectiveness was evaluated and classified into four categories: complete response (CR), partial response (PR), no response, and worsening at 3 months after the last session. Further clinical follow-up outcomes were classified as improved, stable, or aggravated. Adverse events were recorded according to the Society of Interventional Radiology classification. Results: All 10 children completed the sessions and follow-ups. CR occurred in 3 (30%) patients, PR in 6 (60%), and no response in 1 (20%). Minor complications (class A) included maculopapular rash, bulla, vomiting, and hyperpigmentation, whereas no major complications occurred. Conclusion: Intralesional interstitial injection of bleomycin is a feasible approach for the treatment of AVMs in children and provides safe and effective outcomes. This method may be an earlier treatment alternative in children to prevent potential destructive progression, considering the serious complications of currently available therapeutic methods.

Magnetic micro/nanorobots (MagRobots) with unparalleled advantages, including remote mobility, high reconfigurability and programmability, lack of fuel requirement, and versatility, can be manipulated under a magnetic field, which has attracted considerable research attention in the biomedicine. Magnetic materials, as the key components of MagRobots, generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in vivo to induce tissue/organ damage through Fenton/Fenton‐like reactions, which may hinder the clinical application of MagRobots. Here, the biologically active Prussian blue is generated on the surfaces of MagRobots via an in situ reaction to obtain magnetically actuated ROS‐scavenging nano‐robots (ROSrobots). The generated Prussian blue blocks ROS production and endows the MagRobots with additional functionalities, markedly expanding their potential medical applications. Under the action of a magnetic field, the reconfigurable ROSrobots realize multimode transformation, locomotion, and manipulation in complex environments. Importantly, a simple control method is proposed to achieve movement in 3D geometries to allow the completion of tasks in a complex environment. Furthermore, the osteoarthritis (OA) rat model was employed for proof of concept. Notably, under the guidance of ultrasound imaging, ROSrobots can be accurately injected into the articular cavity to actively target the treatment of OA. This research may further promote the clinical application of MagRobots.

BACKGROUND In order to quickly identify and screen high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) grown synthetic diamonds, a lot of research about their luminescent and spectral characteristics has been done. However, the comparative analysis is lacking, and less attention is paid to electrical and magnetic properties. OBJECTIVES To summarize the spectral characteristics and investigate the electrical and magnetic properties of HPHT synthetic diamonds systematically. METHODS Conventional gemological observation, high precision spectroscopy and electrical conductivity and magnetism testing were used for comparative analysis of 49 colorless and yellow samples. RESULTS The residual metal catalysts, including iron, cobalt, and nickel, caused the ferromagnetism of diamonds. All of the HPHT synthetic diamond samples could be attracted by the magnetic bar with magnetic intensity up to 12000Gs. The colorless samples were type Ⅱa+Ⅱb diamonds. The presence of boron led to its good conductivity, and the conductivity increased with increased boron content. The yellow samples were Ib+IaA type diamonds, and about one-third of the single nitrogen was converted into A aggregate. The synthetic diamond had undergone high temperature annealing treatment after growth. The ubiquitous presence of boron, and the presence of nitrogen mainly as single atoms and A aggregates led to the characteristic infrared spectra of HPHT synthetic diamonds. HPHT synthetic diamonds often contained crystal lattice defects caused by impurity elements such as nitrogen, nickel and silicon, which led to characteristic photoluminescence spectra. Colorless samples showed strong blue-green fluorescence and phosphorescence, whereas yellow samples had green fluorescence, with obvious cube-octahedron patterns. CONCLUSIONS Spectral and luminescent characteristics are still an important basis for screening and identification of HPHT synthetic diamonds. HPHT synthetic diamonds under the current growth technology also have obvious differences from natural diamonds in both conductivity and magnetism, which can be used as an auxiliary basis for rapid identification.

ABSTRACT: Background: Ethanol embolotherapy is considered an optimal choice for the treatment of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs); however, there are some complications associated with this treatment. This study aimed to prospectively investigate systemic hemodynamic changes in high-flow AVMs using ethanol embolotherapy. Methods: From September 2012 to September 2014, 34 male patients and 26 female patients with AVMs who underwent embolotherapy (100 sessions in total) with absolute ethanol were included in this study. Invasive systolic blood pressure (SBP) and heart rate (HR) were recorded before and after each injection and throughout the procedure. Differences between the initial and highest SBP (ΔmaxSP) and HR values (ΔmaxHR), as well as the initial and final SBP (ΔSP) and HR (ΔHR) values, were analyzed. We aimed to explore the potential association between these values and the amount of ethanol that was used. Results: The total ethanol used was variable (0.01–0.40 mL/kg; mean, 0.20 mL/kg). SBP and HR increased after ethanol injection in most sessions (91 in 100 sessions). SBP decreased in 9 sessions (9 in 100 sessions), while HR, oxygen saturation, and end-tidal CO2 decreased in one of the 9 sessions. Metal nanoparticles are widely used in catalysis. Loading metal nanoparticles into polymer brushes has aroused wide attention, but regulation of catalytic performance still needs to be improved. The novel diblock polymer brushes, polystyrene@sodium polystyrene sulfonate-b-poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PSV@PSS-b-PNIPA) and PSV@PNIPA-b-PSS with reversed block sequence, were prepared by surface initiated photoiniferter-mediated polymerization (SI-PIMP) and used as nanoreactors to load silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The block sequence caused the difference of conformation and further affected the catalytic performance. PSV@PNIPA-b-PSS@Ag was found to be able to control the amount of AgNPs exposed to external reactant of 4-nitrophenol at different temperatures to achieve regulation of the reaction rate due to the hydrogen bonds and further physical crosslinking between PNIPA and PSS.
