Abstract Objectives This study aims to investigate the links between the clinical, demographic, and psychosocial factors and cancer-related worry in patients with early-stage lung cancer after surgery. Methods The study utilized a descriptive cross-sectional design. Questionnaires, including assessments of cancer-related worry, symptom burden, illness perception, psychological resilience, coping modes, social support and participant characteristics, were distributed to 302 individuals in early-stage lung cancer patients after surgery. The data collection period spanned from January and October 2023. Analytical procedures encompassed descriptive statistics, independent Wilcoxon Rank Sum test, Kruskal-Wallis- H- test, Spearman correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results After surgery, 89.07% had cancer-related worries, with a median (interquartile range, IQR) CRW score of 380.00 (130.00, 720.00). The most frequently cited concern was the cancer itself (80.46%), while sexual issues were the least worrisome (44.37%). Regression analyses controlling for demographic variables showed that higher levels of cancer-related worry (CRW) were associated with increased symptom burden, illness perceptions, and acceptance-rejection coping modes, whereas they had lower levels of psychological resilience, social support and confrontation coping modes, and were more willing to obtain information about the disease from the Internet or applications. Among these factors, the greatest explanatory power in the regression was observed for symptom burden, illness perceptions, social support, and sources of illness information (from the Internet or applications), which collectively explained 52.00% of the variance. Conclusions Healthcare providers should be aware that worry is a common issue for early stage lung cancer survivors with a favorable prognosis. During post-operative recovery, physicians should identify patient concerns and address unmet needs to improve patients’ emotional state and quality of life through psychological support and disease education.

Background To evaluate the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of fermented Ophiocordyceps sinensis mycelium (FOSM) products for preventing contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI).Methods Randomized controlled trials were searched from four Chinese and four English electronic databases and three clinical trial registries up to July 2023. Methodological quality was assessed by using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool 2.0. Risk difference (RD) or risk ratio (RR) and mean difference (MD) were calculated along with the 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results Fourteen trials testing three types of FOSM products (Bailing, Zhiling, and Jinshuibao capsules) involving 1271 participants injected contrast agents were included. For the risk of bias, all trials were rated as some concerns. Compared with routine preventive procedure (RPP) (saline hydration and alprostadil), FOSM products plus RPP showed beneficial effects in reducing the incidence of CA-AKI (14.62% and 5.35%, respectively; RD −0.06, 95% CI −0.09 to −0.03). Subgroup analysis showed that Bailing/Jinshuibao plus RPP demonstrated lower incidence of CA-AKI compared to RPP. However, there was no statistically significant difference between Zhiling with RPP and RPP in the incidence of CA-AKI. Additionally, only when FOSM products were taken before injection of the contrast, it was superior to RPP in reducing the incidence of CA-AKI. There was no statistical difference in adverse events between these two groups.Conclusions Low certainty evidence suggests that preventive oral use of FOSM products as an adjuvant agent was safe and might decrease the incidence of CA-AKI. However, high-quality placebo-controlled trials are needed to confirm its benefit.

The conventional vertical track quality index (TQI) based on the standard deviation of longitudinal levels yields standardized railway track condition assessment. Nevertheless, its capability to identify problems is limited, particularly in the ballast and substructure layers when abrupt changes affect train-track interaction. Previous research shows that dynamic responses from moving trains via axle box acceleration (ABA) measurements can quantify abrupt changes in the vertical dynamic responses. Thus, this paper proposes a framework to design an enhanced vertical TQI, called EnVTQI, by integrating track longitudinal levels and dynamic responses from ABA measurements. First, measured ABA signals are processed to mitigate the influence of variation in measurement speed. Then, substructure and ballast-related features are extracted, including scale average wavelet power (SAWP) in the ranges 0.04 m-1 to 0.33 m-1 (substructure) and 1.25 m-1 to 2.50 m-1 (ballast). This enables identifying track conditions at different track layers. Finally, EnVTQI is determined by weight averaging between the conventional vertical TQI and the ABA features from moving trains. The performance of EnVTQI is evaluated based on 48 segments of a 200-m track on a Dutch railway line. The results indicate that EnVTQI helps to distinguish track segments that cause poor train-track interaction, which the conventional TQI does not indicate. EnVTQI can supplement the conventional TQI, improving the effectiveness of track maintenance decision-making.

Abstract Objectives Synchronous colorectal cancer peritoneal metastasis (CRPM) has a poor prognosis. This study aimed to create a radiomics-boosted deep learning model by PET/CT image for risk assessment of synchronous CRPM. Methods A total of 220 colorectal cancer (CRC) cases were enrolled in this study. We mapped the feature maps (Radiomic feature maps (RFMs)) of radiomic features across CT and PET image patches by a 2D sliding kernel. Based on ResNet50, a radiomics-boosted deep learning model was trained using PET/CT image patches and RFMs. Besides that, we explored whether the peritumoral region contributes to the assessment of CRPM. In this study, the performance of each model was evaluated by the area under the curves (AUC). Results The AUCs of the radiomics-boosted deep learning model in the training, internal, external, and all validation datasets were 0.926 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.874–0.978), 0.897 (95% CI: 0.801–0.994), 0.885 (95% CI: 0.795–0.975), and 0.889 (95% CI: 0.823–0.954), respectively. This model exhibited consistency in the calibration curve, the Delong test and IDI identified it as the most predictive model. Conclusions The radiomics-boosted deep learning model showed superior estimated performance in preoperative prediction of synchronous CRPM from pre-treatment PET/CT, offering potential assistance in the development of more personalized treatment methods and follow-up plans. Critical relevance statement The onset of synchronous colorectal CRPM is insidious, and using a radiomics-boosted deep learning model to assess the risk of CRPM before treatment can help make personalized clinical treatment decisions or choose more sensitive follow-up plans. Key Points Prognosis for patients with CRPM is bleak, and early detection poses challenges. The synergy between radiomics and deep learning proves advantageous in evaluating CRPM. The radiomics-boosted deep-learning model proves valuable in tailoring treatment approaches for CRC patients. Graphical Abstract

Increasingly frequent urban floods strain the traditional grey infrastructure, overwhelming the capacity of drainage networks and causing challenges in managing stormwater. The heavy precipitation leads to flooding and damage to drainage systems. Consequently, efficient mitigation strategies for flooding have been researched deeply. Green infrastructure (GI) has proved to be effective in responding the increasing risk of flood and alleviate pressure on drainage systems. However, as the primary infrastructure of stormwater management, there is still a lack of attention to the dynamic operation feature of urban sewer systems during precipitation events. To fill this gap, we proposed a novel approach that integrates hydraulic characteristics and the topological structure of a sewer network system. This approach aims to identify influential nodes, which contribute to the connectivity of the sewer network amidst dynamic changes in inflow during precipitation events. Furthermore, we adopted rain barrels to serve as exemplars of GI, and 14 GI layout schemes are produced based on the different ranks of influential nodes. Implementing GI measures on both poorly performing and well-performing nodes can yield distinct benefits in mitigating node flooding. This approach provides a new perspective for stormwater management, establishing effective synergy between GI and the drainage system. Abstract Lymphatic invasion (LI) is extremely aggressive and induces worse prognosis among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Thus, it is critical to characterize the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying LI in order to establish novel and efficacious therapeutic targets that enhance the prognosis of CRC patients. RNA-seq data, clinical and survival information of colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) patients were obtained from the TCGA database. In addition, three scRNA-seq datasets of CRC patients were acquired from the GEO database. Data analyses were conducted with the R packages. We assessed the tumor microenvironment (TME) differences between LI+ and LI− based scRNA-seq data, LI+ cells exhibited augmented abundance of immunosuppression and invasive subset. Marked extracellular matrix network activation was also observed in LI+ cells within SPP1+ macrophages. We revealed that an immunosuppressive and pro-angiogenic TME strongly enhanced LI, as was evidenced by the CD4+ Tregs, CD8+ GZMK+, SPP1+ macrophages, e-myCAFs, and w-myCAFs subcluster infiltrations. Furthermore, we identified potential LI targets that influenced tumor development, metastasis, and immunotherapeutic response. Finally, a novel LIRS model was established based on the expression of 14 LI-related signatures, and in the two testing cohorts, LIRS was also proved to have accurate prognostic predictive ability. In this report, we provided a valuable resource and extensive insights into the LI of CRC. Our conclusions can potentially benefit the establishment of highly efficacious therapeutic targets as well as diagnostic biomarkers that improve patient outcomes.

Abstract The analysis of optical spectra—emission or absorption—has been arguably the most powerful approach for discovering and understanding matter. The invention and development of many kinds of spectrometers have equipped us with versatile yet ultra-sensitive diagnostic tools for trace gas detection, isotope analysis, and resolving hyperfine structures of atoms and molecules. With proliferating data and information, urgent and demanding requirements have been placed today on spectrum analysis with ever-increasing spectral bandwidth and frequency resolution. These requirements are especially stringent for broadband laser sources that carry massive information and for dispersive devices used in information processing systems. In addition, spectrum analyzers are expected to probe the device’s phase response where extra information is encoded. Here we demonstrate a novel vector spectrum analyzer (VSA) that is capable of characterizing passive devices and active laser sources in one setup. Such a dual-mode VSA can measure loss, phase response, and dispersion properties of passive devices. It also can coherently map a broadband laser spectrum into the RF domain. The VSA features a bandwidth of 55.1 THz (1260–1640 nm), a frequency resolution of 471 kHz, and a dynamic range of 56 dB. Meanwhile, our fiber-based VSA is compact and robust. It requires neither high-speed modulators and photodetectors nor any active feedback control. Finally, we employ our VSA for applications including characterization of integrated dispersive waveguides, mapping frequency comb spectra, and coherent light detection and ranging (LiDAR). Our VSA presents an innovative approach for device analysis and laser spectroscopy, and can play a critical role in future photonic systems and applications for sensing, communication, imaging, and quantum information processing.

Abstract Solution‐based atomic layer deposition (sALD) is an emerging technique that transfers the principle of traditional atomic layer deposition (ALD) from the gas phase into a wet chemical environment. This new preparation technique has new and unique properties and requirements. A large number of new surfaces and reactants are available to produce active 2D materials. In this work a reproducible procedure to coat silicon wafers with a densely packed monolayer of (3‐Mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) molecules is presented. These highly functionalized surfaces can be used to seed the nucleation of SnS2 in a solution‐based ALD procedure. A coating routine for the production of SnS2 is adapted from ALD to sALD and insight into the nucleation behavior of the reactands is given. X‐ray reflectometry (XRR) is used to resolve the nucleation process of SnS2 on an MPTMS self assembled monolayer (SAM) during the first three cycles of an sALD procedure. The comparison of ex situ XRR, in situ XRR, grazing incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (GIWAXS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX) measurements, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations find that SnS2 first forms a closed layer and then continues to grow in islands on thiol functionalized silane SAMs. Subsequent coating cycles will continue the growth of the islands laterally and in height.

Monopole time reversal is an advanced noise source localization technique, but its sidelobe level in localizing sound sources is greatly affected by noise, leading to a decrease in the accuracy of sound source localization under a low signal-to-noise ratio. To address this issue, this paper proposes a time-domain monopole time reversal technique that excludes autocorrelation to reduce the impact of noise on sound source localization results. Numerical simulation and experimental results show that, compared to conventional monopole time reversal techniques, the proposed method can effectively reduce the sidelobes in sound source localization results and achieve accurate sound source localization under −20 dB low signal-to-noise ratio conditions.

Objectives To estimate the association between the transition to daylight saving time and the risks of all cause and cause specific mortality in the US.Design Nationwide time series observational study based on weekly data.Setting US state level mortality data from the National Center for Health Statistics, with death counts from 50 US states and the District of Columbia, from the start of 2015 to the end of 2019.Population 13 912 837 reported deaths in the US.Main outcome measures Weekly counts of mortality for any cause, and for Alzheimer's disease, dementia, circulatory diseases, malignant neoplasms, and respiratory diseases.Results During the study period, 13 912 837 deaths were reported. The analysis found no evidence of an association between the transition to spring daylight saving time (when clocks are set forward by one hour on the second Sunday of March) and the risk of all cause mortality during the first eight weeks after the transition (rate ratio 1.003, 95% confidence interval 0.987 to 1.020). Autumn daylight saving time is defined in this study as the time when the clocks are set back by one hour (ie, return to standard time) on the first Sunday of November. Evidence indicating a substantial decrease in the risk of all cause mortality during the first eight weeks after the transition to autumn daylight saving time (0.974, 0.958 to 0.990). Overall, when considering the transition to both spring and autumn daylight saving time, no evidence of any effect of daylight saving time on all cause mortality was found (0.988, 0.972 to 1.005). These patterns of changes in mortality rates associated with transition to daylight saving time were consistent for Alzheimer's disease, dementia, circulatory diseases, malignant neoplasms, and respiratory diseases. The protective effect of the transition to autumn daylight saving time on the risk of mortality was more pronounced in elderly people aged ≥75 years, in the non-Hispanic white population, and in those residing in the eastern time zone.Conclusions In this study, transition to daylight saving time was found to affect mortality patterns in the US, but an association with additional deaths overall was not found. These findings might inform the ongoing debate on the policy of shifting daylight saving time.

Multiphase design is a promising approach to achieve superior ablation resistance of multicomponent ultra-high temperature ceramic, while understanding the ablation mechanism is the foundation. Here, through investigating a three-phase multicomponent ceramic consisting of Hf-rich carbide, Nb-rich carbide, and Zr-rich silicide phases, we report a newly discovered solid-state reaction process among multiphase multicomponent ceramic during ablation. It was found that this solid-state reaction occurred in the matrix/oxide scale interface region. In this process, metal cations are counter-diffused between the multicomponent phases, thereby resulting in their composition evolution, which allows the multicomponent phases to exist stably under a higher oxygen partial pressure, leading to the improvement of thermodynamic stability of three-phase multicomponent ceramic. Additionally, this solid-state reaction process appears synergistic with the preferential oxidation behavior among the oxide scale in enhancing the ablation performance.

Lung cancer (LC) is one of the most common cancer worldwide. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are important component of the tumor microenvironment (TME) and are closely related to the stages of tumor occurrence, development, and metastasis. Macrophages are plastic and can differentiate into different phenotypes and functions under the influence of different signaling pathways in TME. The classically activated (M1-like) and alternatively activated (M2-like) represent the two polarization states of macrophages. M1 macrophages exhibit anti-tumor functions, while M2 macrophages are considered to support tumor cell survival and metastasis. Macrophage polarization involves complex signaling pathways, and blocking or regulating these signaling pathways to enhance macrophages’ anti-tumor effects has become a research hotspot in recent years. At the same time, there have been new discoveries regarding the modulation of TAMs towards an anti-tumor phenotype by synthetic and natural drug components. Nanotechnology can better achieve combination therapy and targeted delivery of drugs, maximizing the efficacy of the drugs while minimizing side effects. Up to now, nanomedicines targeting the delivery of various active substances for reprogramming TAMs have made significant progress. In this review, we primarily provided a comprehensive overview of the signaling crosstalk between TAMs and various cells in the LC microenvironment. Additionally, the latest advancements in novel drugs and nano-based drug delivery systems (NDDSs) that target macrophages were also reviewed. Finally, we discussed the prospects of macrophages as therapeutic targets and the barriers to clinical translation.

BackgroundHypoalbuminemia and cognitive impairment (CI) each independently increase the mortality risk in older adults. However, these two geriatric syndromes can occur simultaneously. Combined sewer overflows (CSOs) are one of the main sources of pollution in urban water systems and significantly impede the restoration of water body functionalities within urban rivers and lakes. To understand the research and frontier trends of CSOs comprehensively and systematically, a visual statistical analysis of the literature related to CSOs in the Web of Science core database from 1990 to 2022 was conducted using the bibliometric method using HistCite Pro and VOSviewer. The results reveal a total of 1,209 pertinent publications related to CSOs from 1990 to 2022, and the quantity of CSOs-related publications indicated an increasing trend. Investigations of the distribution and fate of typical pollutants in CSOs and their ecological effects on receiving waters and studies on pollution control technologies (source reduction, process control, and end-of-pipe treatment) are the current focus of CSOs research. CSOs pollution control technologies based on source reduction and the monitoring and control of emerging contaminants are at the forefront of scientific investigations on CSOs. This study systematically and comprehensively summarized current research topics and future research directions of CSOs, thus providing a reference for CSOs control and water environment management research. Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials offer rich tuning opportunities generated by different stacking configurations or by introducing intercalants into the vdW gaps. Current knowledge of the interplay between stacking polytypes and intercalation often relies on macroscopically averaged probes, which fail to pinpoint the exact atomic position and chemical state of the intercalants in real space. Here, by using atomic-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy in a scanning transmission electron microscope, we visualize a stacking-selective self-intercalation phenomenon in thin films of the transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) Nb1+x Se2. We observe robust contrasts between 180°-stacked layers with large amounts of Nb intercalants inside their vdW gaps and 0°-stacked layers with little detectable intercalants inside their vdW gaps, coexisting on the atomic scale. First-principles calculations suggest that the films lie at the boundary of a phase transition from 0° to 180° stacking when the intercalant concentration x exceeds ~0.25, which we could attain in our films due to specific kinetic pathways. Our results offer not only renewed mechanistic insights into stacking and intercalation, but also open up prospects for engineering the functionality of TMDCs via stacking-selective self-intercalation.

Abstract Background Orthostatic intolerance, which includes vasovagal syncope and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, is common in children and adolescents. Elevated plasma homocysteine levels might participate in the pathogenesis of orthostatic intolerance. This study was designed to analyze the plasma metabolomic profile in orthostatic intolerance children with high levels of plasma homocysteine. Methods Plasma samples from 34 orthostatic intolerance children with a plasma homocysteine concentration > 9 µmol/L and 10 healthy children were subjected to ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography and quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis. Results A total of 875 metabolites were identified, 105 of which were significantly differential metabolites. Choline, 1-stearoyl-2-linoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, 1-(1Z-octadecenyl)-2-(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z,19Z-docosahexaenoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, histidine, isocitric acid, and DL-glutamic acid and its downstream metabolites were upregulated, whereas 1-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, 1-stearoyl-sn-glycerol 3-phosphocholine, sphingomyelin (d18:1/18:0), betaine aldehyde, hydroxyproline, and gamma-aminobutyric acid were downregulated in the orthostatic intolerance group compared with the control group. All these metabolites were related to choline and glutamate. Heatmap analysis demonstrated a common metabolic pattern of higher choline, 1-stearoyl-2-linoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, and DL-glutamic acid, and lower sphingomyelin (d18:1/18:0), 1-stearoyl-sn-glycerol 3-phosphocholine, and 1-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine in patients with certain notable metabolic changes (the special group) than in the other patients (the common group). Introduction: Upper urinary tract stones combined with parenchymal infiltrative renal pelvic cancer are challenging to detect on imaging and to evaluate the differential diagnosis. Case Presentation: The symptoms and diagnoses in three cases of parenchymal infiltrative renal pelvic cancer and upper urinary tract stones that occurred between June 2019 and June 2022 were reviewed. Primary symptoms of lumbar discomfort and hematuria were evident in all 3 patients. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) abdominal imaging revealed that all three cases had hydronephrosis along with renal stones, while the other two cases only had localized hypoenhancement of the renal parenchyma, which was only thought to be limited inflammatory changes in the renal cortex as a result of the combination of renal pelvis infection. After percutaneous nephrolithotomy or ureteroscopic lithotripsy, a combined renal pelvis tumor was discovered in all of these instances. Radical tumor surgery was later performed. One patient who had several tumor metastases passed away 6 months after surgery. A case with multiple metastases was discovered 15 months after surgery and survived with the help of the current chemotherapy. A case with a bladder tumor recurrence was discovered 16 months after surgery and had transurethral bladder tumor electrosurgery and routine bladder perfusion chemotherapy. Conclusion: Upper urinary tract stones and parenchymal infiltrative pyel carcinoma have atypical imaging, easily confused with infectious diseases. CT or computed tomography urography (CTU) must be considered by urologists. Patients who have a CT with local renal parenchyma density should be suspected of having parenchymal invasive renal pelvis carcinoma; a needle biopsy ought to be performed; and repeat biopsies may be performed if necessary. High-risk individuals need multiple, sufficient biopsies as needed and a comprehensive intraoperative assessment of the renal pelvic mucosa.

Abstract Aim Patients with diabetes mellitus have poor prognosis after myocardial ischemic injury. However, the mechanism is unclear and there are no related therapies. We aimed to identify regulators of diabetic myocardial ischemic injury. Methods and results Mass spectrometry-based, non-targeted metabolomic approach was used to profile coronary sinus blood from diabetic and non-diabetic Bama-mini pigs at 0.5-h post coronary artery ligation. Six metabolites had a |log2 (Fold Change)|> 1.3. Among them, the most changed is arachidonic acid (AA), levels of which were 32 times lower in diabetic pigs than in non-diabetic pigs. The AA-derived products, PGI2 and 6-keto-PGF1α, were also significantly reduced. AA treatment of cultured cardiomyocytes protected against cell death by 30% at 48 h of high glucose and oxygen deprivation, which coincided with increased mitophagic activity (as indicated by increased LC3II/LC3I, decreased p62 and increased parkin & PINK1), improved mitochondrial renewal (upregulation of Drp1 and FIS1), reduced ROS generation and increased ATP production. These cardioprotective effects were abolished by PINK1(a crucial mitophagy protein) knockdown or the autophagy inhibitor 3-Methyladenine. The protective effect of AA was also inhibited by indomethacin and Cay10441, a prostacyclin receptor antagonist. Furthermore, diabetic Sprague Dawley rats were subjected to coronary ligation for 40 min and AA treatment (10 mg/day per animal gavaged) decreased myocardial infarct size, cell apoptosis index, inflammatory cytokines and improved heart function. Scanning electron microscopy showed more intact mitochondria in the border zone of infarcted myocardium in AA treated rats. Lastly, diabetic patients after myocardial infarction had lower plasma levels of AA and 6-keto-PGF1α and reduced cardiac ejection fraction, compared with non-diabetic patients after myocardial infarction. Plasma AA level was inversely correlated with fasting blood glucose. Conclusions AA protects against diabetic ischemic myocardial damage by promoting mitochondrial autophagy and renewal, which is related to AA derived PGI2 signaling. AA may represent a new strategy to treat diabetic myocardial ischemic injury.

Recent progress in targeted metabolic therapy of cancer has been limited by the considerable toxicity associated with such drugs. To address this challenge, we developed a smart theranostic prodrug system that combines a fluorophore and an anticancer drug, specifically 6-diazo-5-oxo-l-norleucine (DON), using a thioketal linkage (TK). This system enables imaging, chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and on-demand drug release upon radiation exposure. The optimized prodrug, DON-TK-BM3, incorporating cyanine dyes as the fluorophore, displayed potent reactive oxygen species release and efficient tumor cell killing. Unlike the parent drug DON, DON-TK-BM3 exhibited no toxicity toward normal cells. Moreover, DON-TK-BM3 demonstrated high tumor accumulation and reduced side effects, including gastrointestinal toxicity, in mice. This study provides a practical strategy for designing prodrugs of metabolic inhibitors with significant toxicity stemming from their lack of tissue selectivity.

Mining the erasable itemset is an interesting research domain, which has been applied to solve the problem of how to efficiently use limited funds to optimise production in economic crisis. After the problem of mining the erasable itemset was posed, researchers have proposed many algorithms to solve it, among which mining the maximum erasable itemset is a significant direction for research. Since all subsets of the maximum erasable itemset are erasable itemsets, all erasable itemsets can be obtained by mining the maximum erasable itemset, which reduces both the quantity of candidate and resultant itemsets generated during the mining process. However, computing many itemset values still takes a lot of CPU time when mining huge amounts of data. And it is difficult to solve the problem quickly with sequential algorithms. Therefore, this proposed study presents a parallel algorithm for the mining of maximum erasable itemsets, called PAMMEI, based on a multi-core processor platform. The algorithm divides the entire mining task into multiple subtasks and assigns them to multiple processor cores for parallel execution, while using an efficient pruning strategy to downsize the space to be searched and increase the mining speed. To verify the efficiency of the PAMMEI algorithm, the paper compares it with most advanced algorithms. The experimental results show that PAMMEI is superior to the comparable algorithms with respect to runtime, memory usage and scalability.

In recent years, sub-synchronous oscillation accidents caused by wind power integration have received extensive attention. The recorded constant-amplitude waveforms can be induced by either linear or nonlinear oscillation mechanisms. Hence, the nonlinear behavior needs to be distinguished prior to choosing the analysis method. Since the 1960s, the higher-order statistics (HOS) theory has become a powerful tool for the detection of nonlinear behavior (DNB) in production quality control wherein it has mainly been applied to mechanical condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. This study focuses on the hard limiters of the voltage source converter (VSC) control systems in the wind farms and attempts to detect the nonlinear behavior caused by bi- or uni-Iateral saturation hard limiting using the HOS analysis. First, the conventional describing function is extended to obtain the detailed frequency domain information on the bi- and uni-Iateral saturation hard limiting. Furthermore, the bi- and tri-spectra are introduced as the HOS, which are extended into bi- and tri-coherence spectra to eliminate the effects of the linear parts on the harmonic characteristics of hard limiting in the VSC control system, respectively. The effectiveness of the HOS in the DNB and the classification of the hard-limiting types is proven, and its detailed derivation and estimation procedure is presented. Finally, the quadratic and cubic phase coupling in the signals is illustrated, and the performance of the proposed method is evaluated and discussed.

Formic acid is reported to act as a food preservative and feed additive, but its effects on controlling postharvest physiological deterioration (PPD) development in cassava are unclear. In this study, we assessed the effectiveness of different concentrations of formic acid in attenuating PPD occurrence in fresh-cut cassava. The results showed that the concentration of 0.1% (v/v) formic acid could significantly delay the occurrence of PPD, and that the higher the concentration of formic acid supplied, the later the occurrence of PPD symptoms. The physiological and biochemical analysis of 0.5%-formic-acid-treated cassava slices revealed that formic acid decreased the degradation of starch, inhibited the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), and water-soluble pectin in cassava slices with PPD development, and increased the activities of the antioxidant enzymes ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR). A microscopic observation showed that the formic acid treatment inhibited the enlargement of the intercellular space during the cassava PPD process, which suggests that the formation of an intercellular layer of the cell wall was inhibited by formic acid. This study thus revealed the mechanism used by formic acid to extend the cassava shelf life; however, a detailed evaluation of the possible side effects on, for example, the cyanide content will be needed to categorically ensure the safety of this method.

ObjectivesTo synthesize qualitative evidence on the experience of lay responders performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).MethodsQualitative evidence synthesis was performed using the Thomas and Harden method. The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, OVID Medline, Embase, CINAHL, CNKI, and WanFang databases were systematically searched. The quality of the research was assessed by the Critical Assessment Skills Program Tool (CASP).ResultsA total of 5,610 studies were identified, and 9 studies were included in the analysis. Four analytical themes were generated: emotional ambivalence before CPR, psychological tolerance during CPR, perceived experience after CPR, and enhancing psychological resilience.ConclusionLay responders face complicated psychological experience during CPR, which may be susceptible to psychological effects such as “loss aversion,” “bystander effects” and “knowledge curse.” In addition to the timely retraining of CPR, lay responders should be instructed to manage psychological distress and improve psychological resilience. More importantly, the psychological sequelae may be long-lasting, requiring ongoing psychological intervention and follow-up based on valuing transdisciplinarity across endeavours.

BackgroundTheoretically, stress is positively correlated with posttraumatic growth (PTG). However, evidence for a correlation between fear of cancer recurrence (FCR), a cancer-specific stressor, and PTG is mixed. The present study aimed to systematically investigate the overall effect size between the two and to explore moderators that may influence this relationship.MethodsFrom the earliest available date to October 2023, a comprehensive search was conducted in seven databases. Correlation coefficients (r) were calculated using Stata software. Publication type, continent, trauma role, gender, FCR measurements, PTG measurements, sample size, age, and time since diagnosis were used to examine moderating effects. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) assessment tool was used to evaluate study quality.ResultsA total of 14 studies, involving 17 samples and 3,701 participants, were included. Green storage plays a key role in modern logistics and is committed to minimizing the environmental impact. To promote the transformation of traditional storage to green storage, research on the capacity allocation of wind-solar-storage microgrids for green storage is proposed. Firstly, this paper proposes a microgrid capacity configuration model, and secondly takes the shortest payback period as the objective function, and uses the improved sparrow search algorithm (ISSA) for optimization. Firstly, the Logistic-Tent compound chaotic mapping method is added to the population initialization of the sparrow search algorithm (SSA). Secondly, the adaptive t-distribution mutation is used to improve the discoverer, and the overall optimization ability of the algorithm is improved. Finally, the hybrid decreasing strategy is adopted in the process of vigilance position update. The ISSA can improve the search efficiency of the algorithm, avoid premature convergence and enhance the robustness of the algorithm, which is helpful to better apply to the optimal configuration of wind-solar-storage microgrid capacity in green storage. By analyzing the optimal capacity allocation results of two typical days, the system can better adapt to the dynamic storage requirements and improve the flexibility and sustainability of the supply chain.

The effects of nitrite stress on blood biochemistry, antioxidant capacity, and apoptosis of spotted seabass (Lateolabrax maculatus) under high-temperature conditions were investigated. Fish were subjected to varying levels of nitrite concentrations for 28 days, specifically 0, 8, and 16 mg/L. Blood and gill samples were collected at the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th of the exposure for index determination, respectively. Results showed that as the concentration of nitrite increased, blood hemoglobin (Hb) and serum chloride ion (Cl-) levels decreased. In addition, compared to the control group, methemoglobin (MetHb), hematocrit (HCT), red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and serum potassium ion (K+) were significantly increased in the nitrite-stressed group. In terms of antioxidants, catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in the gill were significantly decreased with increasing nitrite concentration. Additionally, malondialdehyde (MDA) content was significantly increased with increasing nitrite concentration. Regarding genes related to apoptosis, as nitrite concentration increased, the expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor (Hif-1α) and cytochrome C (Cyt-c) genes in the gill were significantly up-regulated on the 1st and 3rd day of exposure. The expressions of P53, Bax, Caspase-3, Caspase-8, and Caspase-9 genes in the gill were significantly up-regulated in stress groups at different exposure time intervals compared to the control group. In summary, nitrite caused disruption in the balance of blood ions, decreased antioxidant capacity in the gills, increased expression of genes associated with apoptosis, ultimately resulting in gill injury in the spotted seabass.

This study is a bibliometric analysis of urban studies publications from 2001 to 2021 that unravels the evolution and growing complexity of the field. Although developed regions still dominate and lead this area of inquiry, urban studies led by Asian scholars have increased dramatically over the last decade. There is also topic diffusion from developed regions to less-developed regions despite some unique emphases within each region caused by their local socio-economic-ecological contexts. Climate change adaptation and sustainable development, inequality, and urban governance are receiving growing attention globally. The findings suggest the rising importance of cross-continent knowledge transfer and multi-disciplinary collaboration, particularly among urban studies, sustainability policies and management, public administration, and development studies. Also, urban researchers need to pay more attention to issues faced by many growing cities in developing economies in Asia and Africa as more of the world's population will reside in those urban settings in the coming decades.

Context: Salivary androgens represent non-invasive biomarkers of puberty that may have utility in clinical and population studies. Objective: To understand normal age-related variation in salivary sex steroids and demonstrate their correlation to pubertal development in young adolescents. Design, setting and participants: School-based cohort study of 1495 adolescents at two time points for collecting saliva samples approximately 2 years apart. Outcome measures: The saliva samples were analyzed for five androgens (testostero ne, androstenedione (A4), 17-hydroxyprogesterone, 11-ketotestosterone and 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione) using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry; in addition, salivary dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and oestradiol (OE2) were analysed by ELISA. The pubertal staging was self-reported using the Pubertal Development Scale (PDS). Results: In 1236 saliva samples from 903 boys aged between 11 and 16 years, salivary androgens except DHEA exhibited an increasing trend with an advancing age (ANOVA, P < 0.001), with salivary testosterone and A4 concentration showing the strongest correlation (r = 0.55, P < 0.001 and r = 0.48, P < 0.001, respectively). In a subgroup analysis of 155 and 63 saliva samples in boys and girls, respectively, morning salivary testosterone concentrations showed the highest correlation with composite PDS scores and voice-breaking category from PDS self-report in boys (r = 0.75, r = 0.67, respectively). In girls, salivary DHEA and OE2 had negligible correlations with age or composite PDS scores. Conclusion: In boys aged 11–16 years, an increase in salivary testosterone and A4 is associated with self-reported pubertal progress and represents valid non-invasive biomarkers of puberty in boys.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Baimai ointment in patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: This study presents a prospective randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter clinical trial protocol. A total of 194 cases will be employed, with a 1:1 allocation ratio for each group. Patients will receive either Baimai ointment or placebo over a 14-day treatment period, which will be followed by a 1-week follow-up period. Visual analogue scale scores will be used for the level of pain, the Japanese Orthopedic Association score will be measured primarily to determine the functional status, the Likert scale will be graded for the level of numbness, and rescue therapy use and compliance with health education will be recorded. Laboratory tests and adverse event records will also be applied for safety assessments. Discussion: In summary, this trial will assess the clinical efficacy and safety of Baimai ointment for LDH for the first time. The use of a placebo has the advantage of precluding anticipatory biases resulting from inadequate blinding. Outcome assessors, data managers, statisticians, and all related study staff will be blinded to avoid any bias caused by subjective factors in the study subjects and investigators. Valuable information for clinical LDH treatment and future research on Baimai ointment will be generated from the findings.

Abstract The relative abundance of Wnt receptors plays a crucial role in controlling Wnt signaling in tissue homeostasis and human disease. While the ubiquitin ligases that ubiquitylate Wnt receptors are well-characterized, the deubiquitylase that reverses these reactions remains unclear. Herein, we identify USP46, UAF1, and WDR20 (USP46 complex) as positive regulators of Wnt signaling in cultured human cells. We find that the USP46 complex is similarly required for Wnt signaling in Xenopus and zebrafish embryos. We demonstrate that Wnt signaling promotes the association between the USP46 complex and cell surface Wnt coreceptor, LRP6. Knockdown of USP46 decreases steady-state levels of LRP6 and increases the level of ubiquitylated LRP6. In contrast, overexpression of the USP46 complex blocks ubiquitylation of LRP6 by the ubiquitin ligases RNF43 and ZNFR3. Size exclusion chromatography studies suggest that the size of the USP46 cytoplasmic complex increases upon Wnt stimulation. Finally, we show that USP46 is essential for Wnt-dependent intestinal organoid viability, likely via its role in LRP6 receptor homeostasis. We propose a model in which the USP46 complex increases the steady-state level of cell surface LRP6 and facilitates the assembly of LRP6 into signalosomes via a pruning mechanism that removes sterically hindering ubiquitin chains.

The rapid development of power electronics technology makes the traditional grid power generation, transmission, and consumption gradually show the trend of “power electronics”. With the increase in the number of power electronic converters, the accurate electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation of model power electronic networks is under tremendous computational pressure. Aiming at solving the problem of slow calculation of large-scale power electronics simulation, scientists have widely used parallel computation of sub-networks to accelerate EMT simulation. This paper proposes an automatic grid partitioning algorithm for large power grids based on merging neighbor nodes with the basic principle of the transmission line decoupling (TLD) method. The algorithm can effectively reduce the communication time and the waiting time due to the uneven computational load during parallel simulation. Finally, the method is implemented in the CloudPSS platform with various scales of grids, and the test results show that the algorithm can realize the EMT simulation efficiently and accurately.

New energy microgrid is one of the development trends of the future power grid. As there are wind turbines and other new energy equipment in the microgrid, its output is easily affected by unstable weather factors. Moreover, the complexity of dispatching caused by the storage battery in the microgrid and the non-linear factors of the diesel generator have brought great challenges to the economic dispatching of the microgrid. To tackle these problems, this paper establishes the expected value model of microgrid economic dispatching considering the uncertainty of wind power generation and the factors such as battery and diesel generator and proves that this expected value model is convex. On this basis, the piecewise linearization method is proposed to find the global optimal solution of the economic dispatch. Finally, a representative microgrid is optimized to verify the effectiveness of expected value model.

The chemical flame retardants represented by organophosphate esters (OPEs) are widely used and have a serious impact on the environment. In this study, we collected data on the exposure levels of ten OPEs in Chinese soils in recent years and performed an ecological risk assessment. The results showed that the levels of OPEs varied considerably throughout different regions of China, with high exposure levels in highly urbanized or industrialized areas such as Guangdong Province and Northeast China, where the mean value was >200 ng/g. The content of OPEs in the soil in industrial and commercial areas was significantly higher than in other regions, indicating that the concentration of OPEs in the soil is closely related to local economic development and the degree of industrialization. Meanwhile, the number of studies reporting on OPEs and their exposure concentrations have increased significantly since 2018. Through the ecological risk assessment, it was found that TCP, EHDPP and TEHP pose high ecological risks. Although some OPEs, such as TCIPP, have low ecological risk levels overall, their high exposure concentrations are still worthy of attention. This study details the general status of OPE contamination in Chinese soils, which can serve as a reference for ecological environmental supervision.

The microstructure and 650 °C tensile properties of a compositionally graded IN718-René41 (718-R41) superalloy fabricated by laser blown-powder directed energy deposition (DED-LB/M) are investigated to understand structure–property relationships and baseline tensile properties. Digital Image Correlation (DIC), in situ neutron diffraction, and conventional characterization techniques are performed to study the as-built and heat-treated states. The applied heat treatment generates static recrystallization and equiaxed grains in 718-rich compositions, while R41-rich compositions remain partially or un-recrystallized possibly influenced by a higher MC carbide fraction (>0.5%). The yield strengths of the 718 and R41 sections in the heat-treated state are comparable to wrought forms but the graded compositions show weakness due to unoptimized heat treatment. Diffraction elastic constants first decrease and then increase along the 718-R41 composition gradient, while a small difference is observed between the as-built and heat-treated states and γ, γ′ phases. Overall, the compositionally graded region shows a smooth transition in the elastic properties. Grain-level load transfer from the (220) to (200) grains shows compositional dependence, and qualitatively agrees with DIC-measured macroscopic yield strength. Within the (200) grains, the γ/γ′ phases deform elastically until the γ phase yields and afterwards, the γ′ phase takes load from the γ phase.

Abstract Background Fusobacterium nucleatum is a one of the most important anaerobic opportunistic pathogens in the oral and intestinal tracts of human and animals. It can cause various diseases such as infections, Lemierre's syndrome, oral cancer and colorectal cancer. The comparative genomic studies on the population genome level, have not been reported. Results We analyzed all publicly available Fusobacterium nucleatums’ genomic data for a comparative genomic study, focusing on the pan-genomic features, virulence genes, plasmid genomes and developed cgmlst molecular markers. We found the pan-genome shows a clear open tendency and most of plasmids in Fusobacterium nucleatum are mainly transmitted intraspecifically. Conclusions Our comparative analysis of Fusobacterium nucleatum systematically revealed the open pan-genomic features and phylogenetic tree based on cgmlst molecular markers. What’s more, we also identified common plasmid typing among genomes. We hope that our study will provide a theoretical basis for subsequent functional studies.

Reliability of joints in solar arrays significantly influences the service life of satellites. Interface between solar cell and interconnector experiences serious temperature cycling during space service which would further lead to failure. To further improve the interface joining thermal reliability, elucidation of the interface formation and corresponding microstructure evolution during thermal fatigue is necessary. In this study, parallel gap resistance welded (PGRW) multi-layered joint between GaAs solar cell and Ag foil are subjected to different temperature cycling tests (−160–120 °C, −165–160 °C) with various cycles. Obtained results confirm the joining mechanism of the joint as solid-solution interdiffusion between Ag foil and Au surface of solar cell electrode. Also, conducted temperature cycling essentially lead to thermal fatigue process at Ag/Au interface, therefore more serious interface strength degradation is generated by larger temperature cycling range. Joint failure is initiated by thermal fatigue induced dislocation and residual strain concentrations around dissimilar interface. And the large mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of the multilayer structure amplifies the thermal fatigue effect.

Abstract Although first principles based anharmonic lattice dynamics is one of the most common methods to obtain phonon properties, such method is impractical for high-throughput search of target thermal materials. We develop an elemental spatial density neural network force field as a bottom-up approach to accurately predict atomic forces of ~80,000 cubic crystals spanning 63 elements. The primary advantage of our indirect machine learning model is the accessibility of phonon transport physics at the same level as first principles, allowing simultaneous prediction of comprehensive phonon properties from a single model. Training on 3182 first principles data and screening 77,091 unexplored structures, we identify 13,461 dynamically stable cubic structures with ultralow lattice thermal conductivity below 1 Wm−1K−1, among which 36 structures are validated by first principles calculations. We propose mean square displacement and bonding-antibonding as two low-cost descriptors to ease the demand of expensive first principles calculations for fast screening ultralow thermal conductivity. Our model also quantitatively reveals the correlation between off-diagonal coherence and diagonal populations and identifies the distinct crossover from particle-like to wave-like heat conduction. Our algorithm is promising for accelerating discovery of novel phononic crystals for emerging applications, such as thermoelectrics, superconductivity, and topological phonons for quantum information technology.

Abstract Objective To understand developers’ perception of patient (versions of) guidelines (PVGs), and identify challenges during the PVG development, with the aim to inform methodological guidance for future PVG development. Methods We used a descriptive qualitative design. Semi-structured interviews were conducted virtually from December 2021 to April 2022, with a purposive sampling of 12 PVG developers from nine teams in China. Conventional and directed content analysis was used for data analysis. Results The interviews identified PVG developers’ understanding of PVGs, their current practice experience, and the challenges of developing PVGs. Participants believed PVGs were a type of health education material for patients; therefore, it should be based on patient needs and be understandable and accessible. Participants suggested that PVGs could be translated/adapted from one or several clinical practice guidelines (CPG), or developed de novo (i.e., the creation of an entirely new PVG with its own set of research questions that are independent of existing CPGs). Participants perceived those existing methodological guidelines for PVG development might not provide clear instructions for PVGs developed from multiple CPGs and from de novo development. Challenges to PVG development include (1) a lack of standardized and native guidance on developing PVGs; (2) a lack of standardized guidance on patient engagement; (3) other challenges: no publicly known and trusted platform that could disseminate PVGs; concerns about the conflicting interests with health professionals. Conclusions and practice implications Our study suggests clarifying the concept of PVG is the primary task to develop PVGs and carry out related research. There is a need to make PVG developers realize the roles of PVGs, especially in helping decision-making, to maximize the effect of PVG. It is necessary to develop native consensus-based guidance considering developers’ perspectives regarding PVGs.

Abstract Following the reaction of biological membranes to external stimuli reveals fundamental insights into cellular function. Here, self-assembled lipid monolayers act as model membranes containing photoswitchable azobenzene glycolipids for investigating structural response during isomerization by combining Langmuir isotherms with X-ray scattering. Controlled in-situ trans/cis photoswitching of the azobenzene N = N double bond alters the DPPC monolayer structure, causing reproducible changes in surface pressure and layer thickness, indicating monolayer reorientation. Interestingly, for monolayers containing azobenzene glycolipids, along with the expected DPPC phase transitions an additional discontinuity is observed. The associated reorintation represents a crossover point, with the surface pressure and layer thickness changing in opposite directions above and below. This is evidence that the azobenzene glycolipids themselves change orientation within the monolayer. Such behaviour suggests that azobenzene glycolipids can act as a bidirectional switch in DPPC monolayers providing a tool to investigate membrane structure–function relationships in depth.

The generation of acoustic vortex beams has attracted an increasing amount of research attention in recent years, offering a range of functions, including acoustic communication, particle manipulation, and biomedical ultrasound. However, incorporating more vortices and broadening the capacity of these beams and associated devices in three dimensions pose challenges. Traditional methods often necessitate complex transducer arrays and are constrained by conditions such as system complexity and the medium in which they operate. In this paper, a 3D printed acoustic lens capable of generating a double vortex pattern with an optional focusing profile in water was demonstrated. The performance of the proposed lens was evaluated through computational simulations using finite element analysis and experimental tests based on underwater measurements. The results indicate that by altering the positioning of the vortices’ axes, it is possible to control both the intensity and the location of the pressurized zone. The proposed approach shows promise for enhancing the effectiveness and versatility of various applications by generating a larger number of vortices and freely tailoring the focal profile with a single lens, thereby expanding the practical uses of acoustic vortex technology.

Abstract Macrophages are heterogenic phagocytic cells that play distinct roles in physiological and pathological processes. Targeting different types of macrophages has shown potent therapeutic effects in many diseases. Although many approaches are developed to target anti‐inflammatory macrophages, there are few researches on targeting pro‐inflammatory macrophages, which is partially attributed to their non‐s pecificity phagocytosis of extracellular substances. In this study, a novel recombinant protein is constructed that can be anchored on an exosome membrane with the purpose of targeting pro‐inflammatory macrophages via antigen recognition, which is named AnCar‐ExoLaIMTS. The data indicate that the phagocytosis efficiencies of pro‐inflammatory macrophages for different AnCar‐ExoLaIMTS show obvious differences. The AnCar‐ExoLaIMTS3 has the best targeting ability for pro‐inflammatory macrophages in vitro and in vivo. Mechanically, AnCar‐ExoLaIMTS3 can specifically recognize the leucine‐rich repeat domain of the TLR4 receptor, and then enter into pro‐inflammatory macrophages via the TLR4‐mediated receptor endocytosis pathway. Moreover, AnCar‐ExoLaIMTS3 can efficiently deliver therapeutic cargo to pro‐inflammatory macrophages and inhibit the synovial inflammatory response via downregulation of HIF‐1α level, thus ameliorating the severity of arthritis in vivo. Collectively, the work established a novel gene/drug delivery system that can specifically target pro‐inflammatory macrophages, which may be beneficial for the treatments of arthritis and other inflammatory diseases.

BackgroundAdolescents are susceptible to mental illness and have experienced substantial disruption owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The digital environment is increasingly important in the context of a pandemic when in-person social connection is restricted. ObjectiveThis study aims to estimate whether depression and anxiety had worsened compared with the prepandemic period and examine potential associations with sociodemographic characteristics and behavioral factors, particularly digital behaviors. MethodsWe analyzed cross-sectional and longitudinal data from a large, representative Greater London adolescent cohort study: the Study of Cognition, Adolescents and Mobile Phones (SCAMP). Participants completed surveys at T1 between November 2016 and July 2018 (N=4978; aged 13 to 15 years) and at T2 between July 2020 and June 2021 (N=1328; aged 16 to 18 years). Depression and anxiety were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire and Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, respectively. Information on the duration of total mobile phone use, social network site use, and video gaming was also collected using questionnaires. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of sociodemographic characteristics, digital technology use, and sleep duration with clinically significant depression and anxiety. ResultsThe proportion of adolescents who had clinical depression and anxiety significantly increased at T2 (depression: 140/421, 33.3%; anxiety: 125/425, 29.4%) compared with the proportion of adolescents at T1 (depression: 57/421, 13.5%; anxiety: 58/425, 13.6%; P for 2-proportion z test

In space flexible solar arrays, stranded Ag-plated Cu conductors and Ag interconnectors are preferred materials for energy transmission. Parallel gap resistance welding is a solderless micro-joining process that favors the reliability of joints between stranded Ag-plated Cu conductors and Ag interconnectors. It was found the interfacial microstructure presented diversity and complexity while mechanical and electrical properties showed unusual nonlinear variations with welding voltage. This study aims to clarify the interfacial microstructure evolution and its effects on the joint properties while elucidating the microstructure formation mechanisms. A shift in the bonding mechanism at interfaces from solid-state diffusion to brazing was found as welding voltage reached a critical value (1.5 V). It eliminated micro gaps and built nano-scale interlocking structures, resulting in substantial improvement in mechanical properties. Increasing the welding voltage from 1.2 V to 1.4 V improved electrical conductivity due to the enlarged bonding area at interfaces. However, high welding voltage (1.6 V) led to degradation in the electrical conductivity of joints due to excessive Ag-Cu solid solution formed at interfaces. The key to fabricating high-strength and high-conductivity joints lies in achieving appropriate interfacial melting while reducing alloying by controlling peak temperature and shortening the duration above the Ag-Cu eutectic point.

BackgroundFrom 2004 onwards, the Chinese government has freely offered complimentary Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) to Chinese HIV/AIDS patients, alongside the prescribed first line therapy of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Thus, we aimed to explore the effectiveness and safety of CHM for patients with HIV/AIDS.MethodsThe data from the Guangxi pilot database and antiviral treatment sites database have been respectively developed into two datasets in this prospective cohort real-world study, the CHM combined HAART group (the integrated group) and the HAART group. A 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) was performed and the longitudinal data were analyzed using a generalized estimating equation (GEE) model with an autocorrelation matrix and log link function attached to the Gamma distribution.ResultsA final sample of 629 patients, 455 and 174 in the integrated group and HAART group respectively, were obtained from the full dataset. As covariates for PSM, gender, age, baseline CD4+ and CD4+/ CD8+ were assessed based on the results of the logistic regression analyses. Following PSM, 166 pairs from the full dataset were matched successfully, with 98 pairs in the baseline CD4+ > 200 subgroup, and 55 pairs in the baseline CD4+ ≤ 200 subgroup. In the full dataset, HAART group achieved higher CD4+ count (OR = 1.119, 95%CI [1.018, 1.230]) and CD4+/CD8+ ratio (OR = 1.168, 95%CI [1.045, 1.305]) than the integrated group, so did in the CD4+ > 200 subgroup. For the CD4+ ≤ 200 subgroup, the CD4+ (OR = 0.825, 95%CI [0.694, 0.980]) and CD4+/CD8+ (OR = 0.826, 95%CI [0.684, 0.997]) of the integrated group were higher than those of the HAART group. The safety outcomes showed that there were no significant differences in BUN, ALT and AST levels between the groups but Cr showed significantly higher levels in HAART groups of all three datasets.ConclusionsCompared to HAART alone, CHMs combined with HAART had better effects in improving the immune function of HIV/AIDS in patients with baseline CD4+ count ≤ 200. The results of the two subgroups are in opposite directions, and chance does not explain the apparent subgroup effect. A study with larger sample size and longer follow-up period is warranted in order to increase study credibility.

The effect of COVID-19 vaccines in reducing hospitalization risks was studied using the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. We first devised a dynamic environment using an LSTM that characterizes the impact of COVID-19 vaccine administrations on COVID-19 infections in the real-world setting from May 2021 to April 2023. Then, we generated hypothetical subjects with various vaccination profiles (e.g., all subjects received or not received the booster vaccine, or all subjects had followed the vaccine policy) and predicted their counterfactual outcomes based on the LSTM to make inferences on the vaccine effectiveness and estimate the population-averaged risk of infection if there was full compliance for the vaccine policy. Our findings confirm that booster doses significantly reduced the risk of COVID-19 hospitalization while bivalent booster had similar or slightly better effectiveness than the monovalent booster. Additionally, our analysis highlights the importance of adhering to vaccine policies in effectively reducing the risk of hospitalizations. Our study contributes to understanding the dynamics of vaccine efficacy and supports informed decision-making in public health strategies.

Lung cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related death, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) being the most prevalent type. Over 70% of lung cancer patients require radiotherapy (RT), which operates through direct and indirect mechanisms to treat cancer. However, RT can damage healthy tissues and encounter radiological resistance, making it crucial to enhance its precision to optimize treatment outcomes, minimize side effects, and overcome radioresistance. Integrating nanotechnology into RT presents a promising method to increase its efficacy. This review explores various nano-assisted RT strategies aimed at achieving precision treatment. These include using nanomaterials as radiosensitizers, applying nanotechnology to modify the tumor microenvironment, and employing nano-based radioprotectors and radiation-treated cell products for indirect cancer RT. We also explore recent advancements in nano-assisted RT for NSCLC, such as biomimetic targeting that alters mesenchymal stromal cells, magnetic targeting strategies, and nanosensitization with high-atomic number nanomaterials. Finally, we address the existing challenges and future directions of precision RT using nanotechnology, highlighting its potential clinical applications.
