Abstract Background Emotional labor is an essential component of nursing practice and is important for Generation Z nursing students born from the mid-1990s to early 2010s. They will become the backbone of the nursing workforce but present more emotional regulation problems. Studies on emotional labor are limited to clinical nurses and influencing factors at the individual level. The impacts of external systems on emotional labor of nursing students have not been explored. This study aimed to quantify the relationship between early clinical exposure and emotional labor and test the moderating effect of family structure on the relationship. Methods The cross-sectional study recruited 467 nursing students using convenience sampling from seven colleges and universities in mainland China. An e-survey created on WJX.CN was used to collect data in January 2023. Emotional labor (surface acting and deep acting) was measured with the Emotional Labor scale. Early clinical exposure (exposure or not and times of exposure) and family structure (nuclear family, extended family, and single-parent family) were assessed with self-reported questions. Descriptive statistics and the linear mixed-effects modeling were used to do the analyses. Results The mean scores of surface acting and deep acting were 26.66 ± 5.66 and 13.90 ± 2.40, respectively. A significant difference in scores of surface acting was not observed for exposure or not, whereas such a significant difference was found for times of exposure. Nursing students from extended families demonstrated significantly lower scores on surface acting while exposed to clinical practice compared with those from nuclear families. Family structure moderated the relationship between times of exposure and surface acting of nursing students when exposed to clinical practice for one time, but the significance disappeared when the times of exposure increased. No significant findings of early clinical exposure on deep acting were observed. Conclusions Early clinical exposure influenced emotional labor, and students from extended families were more likely to get benefits from early clinical exposure. Studies are needed to help students from nuclear families get comparable benefits on emotional labor as those from extended families, and improve deep acting by early clinical exposure.

Abstract Background Hemoglobin-to-red blood cell distribution width ratio (HRR) had great predictive value for the prognosis of malignant tumors and cardiovascular disease. However, its predictive value for the occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in elderly intertrochanteric fracture patients remains unclear. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the early postoperative HRR and the risk of postoperative AKI in elderly intertrochanteric fracture patients. Methods We reviewed the medical records of 307 elderly intertrochanteric fracture patients in this single-center retrospective cohort study. We performed univariate analysis on the relevant parameters, and parameters with significant differences were included in the following logistic regression model for multivariate analysis. Then, we used a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to evaluate the predictive value of the early postoperative HRR level for AKI in elderly intertrochanteric fracture patients. Patients were divided into a high HRR group and a low HRR group according to the cutoff point determined by ROC curve analysis. Subsequently, the relevance between postoperative HRR and AKI was further determined using propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Results The area under the curve of the early postoperative HRR for predicting postoperative AKI was 0.714 (95% CI: 0.618–0.809). The cutoff value was 5.44. The sensitivity was 72.7%, and the specificity was 70.8%. Patients were divided into low HRR (⩽ 5.44) and high HRR (> 5.44) groups according to the cutoff value. PSM and IPTW analysis indicated that the risk of AKI in the low HRR group was significantly higher than that in the high HRR group in both the matched cohort (OR = 6.914, 95% CI: 1.714–46.603, p = 0.016) and the weighted group (OR = 2.784, 95% CI: 1.415–5.811, p = 0.040). Conclusions Early postoperative HRR is an accurate, accessible, and economical blood test parameter that can predict the risk of postoperative AKI in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture.

Abstract Tumorigenesis is a multistep process, with oncogenic mutations in a normal cell conferring clonal advantage as the initial event. However, despite pervasive somatic mutations and clonal expansion in normal tissues, their transformation into cancer remains a rare event, indicating the presence of additional driver events for progression to an irreversible, highly heterogeneous, and invasive lesion. Recently, researchers are emphasizing the mechanisms of environmental tumor risk factors and epigenetic alterations that are profoundly influencing early clonal expansion and malignant evolution, independently of inducing mutations. Additionally, clonal evolution in tumorigenesis reflects a multifaceted interplay between cell-intrinsic identities and various cell-extrinsic factors that exert selective pressures to either restrain uncontrolled proliferation or allow specific clones to progress into tumors. However, the mechanisms by which driver events induce both intrinsic cellular competency and remodel environmental stress to facilitate malignant transformation are not fully understood. In this review, we summarize the genetic, epigenetic, and external driver events, and their effects on the co-evolution of the transformed cells and their ecosystem during tumor initiation and early malignant evolution. A deeper understanding of the earliest molecular events holds promise for translational applications, predicting individuals at high-risk of tumor and developing strategies to intercept malignant transformation.

BackgroundThe Qingcaosha Reservoir is facing issues of algal blooms and eutrophication, and the resulting increase in the level of chlorination disinfection by-products in the water has been a major concern. ObjectiveTo evaluate the impact of "Algae Monitoring and Control Program in Qingcaosha Reservoir" (hereinafter referred to as the program) on the control of trihalomethanes (THMs) in conventional finished water. MethodsFrom 2011 to 2019, water samples were collected from the Lujiazui Water Plant once per season, one sample each time, and the concentrations of four THMs (trichloromethane, dichlorobromomethane, monochlorodibromomethane, and tribromomethane) were measured in the samples. Using 2014 when the program was implemented as a cut-off point, the entire study period was divided into two phases: pre-implementation (2011–2013) and post-implementation(2014–2019). Segmented linear regression with interrupted time series analysis was applied to assess the concentrations and trends of THMs in the finished water before and after the program launch. ResultsThe concentration of total THMs in finished water increased by 1.561 µg·L−1 (P=0.010) for each season of time extension before launching the program. The change in the concentration of total THMs in finished water was not statistically significant after the program launch, but the THMs concentration showed a decreasing trend as the slope was −0.626 (P=0.001). From 2017 until the end of 2019, the average concentration of THMs in finished water of Lujiazui Water Plant dropped to 10 μg·L−1 or less.ConclusionsThe algae and eutrophication control measures in Qingcaosha Reservoir have achieved good results, controlling THMs in finished water at a low level, and the trend of THMs has changed from a yearly increase pattern before the program to a yearly decrease pattern after the program.

ABSTRACTRemote sensing image change detection aims to identify differences between images acquired at different times in the same area, crucial for land management, environmental monitoring, and disaster assessment. Current change detection methods mainly use Siamese or early fusion structures. Siamese networks focus on object features at different times but lack attention to change information, leading to false alarms and missed detections. Early fusion structures focus on fused features but neglect temporal object features, hindering accurate change detection. To address these issues, we propose a novel network, Triplet UNet (T-UNet), employing a triplet encoder to simultaneously extract object features and change features between the pre- and post-time-phase images. To effectively interact features extracted from the three branches of triplet encoder, we propose a multi-branch spatial-spectral cross-attention module. In the decoder, we employ channel attention and spatial attention mechanisms to fully mine and integrate detailed texture and semantic localization information. The proposed T-UNet surpasses seven other state-of-the-art methods on three publicly available datasets. Extensive experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed structure and modules as well as the superiority of the proposed T-UNet. Abstract Fluoropyrimidine-based combination chemotherapy plus targeted therapy is the standard initial treatment for unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), but the prognosis remains poor. This phase 3 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03950154) assessed the efficacy and adverse events (AEs) of the combination of PD-1 blockade-activated DC-CIK (PD1-T) cells with XELOX plus bevacizumab as a first-line therapy in patients with mCRC. A total of 202 participants were enrolled and randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either first-line XELOX plus bevacizumab (the control group, n = 102) or the same regimen plus autologous PD1-T cell immunotherapy (the immunotherapy group, n = 100) every 21 days for up to 6 cycles, followed by maintenance treatment with capecitabine and bevacizumab. The main endpoint of the trial was progression-free survival (PFS). The median follow-up was 19.5 months. Median PFS was 14.8 months (95% CI, 11.6–18.0) for the immunotherapy group compared with 9.9 months (8.0–11.8) for the control group (hazard ratio [HR], 0.60 [95% CI, 0.40–0.88]; p = 0.009). Median overall survival (OS) was not reached for the immunotherapy group and 25.6 months (95% CI, 18.3–32.8) for the control group (HR, 0.57 [95% CI, 0.33–0.98]; p = 0.043). Grade 3 or higher AEs occurred in 20.0% of patients in the immunotherapy group and 23.5% in the control groups, with no toxicity-associated deaths reported. The addition of PD1-T cells to first-line XELOX plus bevacizumab demonstrates significant clinical improvement of PFS and OS with well tolerability in patients with previously untreated mCRC.

Rock mass quality serves as a vital index for predicting the stability and safety status of rock tunnel faces. In tunneling practice, the rock mass quality is often assessed via a combination of qualitative and quantitative parameters. However, due to the harsh on-site construction conditions, it is rather difficult to obtain some of the evaluation parameters which are essential for the rock mass quality prediction. In this study, a novel improved Swin Transformer is proposed to detect, segment, and quantify rock mass characteristic parameters such as water leakage, fractures, weak interlayers. The site experiment results demonstrate that the improved Swin Transformer achieves optimal segmentation results and achieving accuracies of 92%, 81%, and 86% for water leakage, fractures, and weak interlayers, respectively. A multi-source rock tunnel face characteristic (RTFC) dataset includes 11 parameters for predicting rock mass quality is established. Considering the limitations in predictive performance of incomplete evaluation parameters exist in this dataset, a novel tree-augmented naive Bayesian network (BN) is proposed to address the challenge of the incomplete dataset and achieved a prediction accuracy of 88%. In comparison with other commonly used Machine Learning models the proposed BN-based approach proved an improved performance on predicting the rock mass quality with the incomplete dataset. By utilizing the established BN, a further sensitivity analysis is conducted to quantitatively evaluate the importance of the various parameters, results indicate that the rock strength and fractures parameter exert the most significant influence on rock mass quality.

Vehicle detection is vital for urban planning and traffic management. Optical remote sensing imagery, known for its high resolution and extensive coverage, is ideal for this task. Traditional horizontal bounding box (HBB) annotations often include excessive background, leading to reduced accuracy, whereas oriented bounding box (OBB) annotations are more precise but costly and prone to human error. To address these issues, we propose the Oriented Group R-CNN + Student Model (OGR-SM) framework, a weakly semisupervised oriented vehicle detection method based on single-point annotations. It leverages a small amount of OBB annotations along with a large quantity of single-point annotations for training, achieving performance comparable to fully supervised learning with 100% complete annotations. Specifically, we train the teacher model (OGR) using a small set of accurately annotated OBBs and their corresponding single-point annotations. This model employs an instance-point driven proposal grouping strategy and a group-based proposal assignment strategy enhanced with point location to generate pseudo-OBBs from a large set of weakly annotated single-point data. We then utilize conventional oriented detectors as student models to perform the vehicle detection task in a standard manner. Extensive experiments on two datasets show that our framework, using limited accurate OBBs and many pseudo-OBBs, can achieve or surpass the accuracy of fully supervised models. Our method balances high-quality annotations with data availability, enhancing scalability and robustness for vehicle detection in remote sensing applications.

Abstract Background Lung cancer is a highly prevalent malignancy worldwide and is associated with high mortality rates. While the involvement of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the development of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) has been established, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Methods In this study, we utilized data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to identify differentially expressed endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes (ERSRGs) between LUAD and normal tissues. We performed various bioinformatics analyses to investigate the biological functions of these ERSRGs. Using LASSO analysis and multivariate stepwise regression, we constructed a novel prognostic model based on the ERSRGs. We further validated the performance of the model using two independent datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Additionally, we conducted functional enrichment analysis, immune checkpoint analysis, and immune infiltration analysis and drug sensitivity analysis of LUAD patients to explore the potential biological function of the model. Furthermore, we conducted a battery of experiments to verify the expression of ERSRGs in a real-world cohort. Results We identified 106 ERSRGs associated with LUAD, which allowed us to classify LUAD patients into two subtypes based on gene expression differences. Using six prognostic genes (NUPR1, RHBDD2, VCP, BAK1, EIF2AK3, MBTPS2), we constructed a prognostic model that exhibited excellent predictive performance in the training dataset and was successfully validated in two independent external datasets. The risk score derived from this model emerged as an independent prognostic factor for LUAD. Confirmation of the linkage between this risk model and immune infiltration was affirmed through the utilization of Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), Gene Ontology (GO), and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses. The q-PCR results verified significant differences in the expression of prognostic genes between cancer and paracancer tissues. Notably, the protein expression of NUPR1, as determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC), exhibited an opposite pattern compared to the mRNA expression patterns. Conclusion This study establishes a novel prognostic model for LUAD based on six ER stress-related genes, facilitating the prediction of LUAD prognosis. Additionally, NUPR1 was identified as a potential regulator of stress in LUAD.

In order to improve the efficiency of energy utilization, the integrated energy system (IES) has emerged. The IES typically acts as a whole system during operations, the subsystems are separated, and the interests of each system are independent. In this paper, considering the relationship between the various energy systems, non-cooperative game theory is used to establish the optimal dispatch model. The proposed model mainly relies on the relationship between the cooperation and competition among various subsystems to obtain the maximum benefit they can accept. Furthermore, the basic definition is combined with the particle swarm optimization algorithm to solve the problem. The results show that the optimization strategy proposed in this paper can operate safely and reliably, and effectively distribute the benefits of each energy system.

Abstract Ancient pottery, having endured prolonged burial in soil, invariably underwent the process of glaze corrosion. The micromorphology and structural composition of four lead-glazed pottery fragments dating back to the Han Dynasty, excavated in the Qinhan New Town within Xixian New area of Xi’an are elucidated by comprehensive analysis method. The results reveal that the corrosion products predominantly comprised PbCO3, Pb3(PO4)2, CaCO3, and Ca3(PO4)2. Concurrently, the presence of organic substances exhibiting characteristic self-excitation fluorescence in the cracks of the sample is identified through fluorescence microscopy and Fourier infrared spectroscopy. Through a comparative analysis of well-preserved and severely corroded samples, taking into account compositional analysis, observations of corrosion morphology, and the characteristics of corrosion products, it is deduced that the primary corrosion mechanisms involve chemical corrosion, microbial corrosion, and crack corrosion. This study provides a comprehensive depiction of glaze corrosion process inherent to lead-glazed pottery and establishes corresponding corrosion models.

Deep convolutional neural networks have made some progress in skin lesion classification and cancer diagnosis, but there are still some problems to be solved, such as the challenge of small inter-class feature differences and large intra-class feature differences, which might limit the classification performance of the model as high-level and low-level features are not properly utilized. This paper proposes a multi-scale skin cancer image identification network using self-interactive attention pyramid and cross-layer bilinear-trilinear pooling(SPCB-Net), which mainly consists of three proposed sub-modules that are the self-interacting attention pyramid (SAP), the across-layer bilinear-trilinear pooling operation and the global average algorithm(GAA). The SPCB-Net is applied to two representative datasets of medical images in dermatology and histopathology (HAM10000 and NCT-CRC-HE-100K) to demonstrate the effectiveness of in the skin lesion classification. SPCB-Net(ResNet101) achieves 97.10% and 99.87% accuracy on HAM10000 and NCT-CRC-HE-100K respectively, which are both achieved performance improvements of 0.4% compared to the state-of-the-art models. In addition, a large number of experiments on HAM10000 show that the interactive attention pyramid(SPA) proposed in this paper is superior to the common attention module, and the method with a cross-layer bilinear-trilinear pooling is superior to the cross-layer trilinear pooling method. SPCB-Net is configured on Vgg19 and ResNet101 to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed module. The experimental results show that SPCB-Net has shown state-of-the-art performance in the two field of dermatology and histopathology. Therefore, it is not only well qualified for the task of identifying skin cancer image but also has the potential to identify skin cancer by identifying pathological tissue.

Objective: Investigating the effects of MYB proto-oncogene like 2 (MYBL2)-mediated regulation of Cell division cycle associated 8 (CDCA8) expression on the biological activity of cutaneous malignant melanoma cells. Methods: A375 cells with MYBL2 and CDCA8 overexpression and knockdown were evaluated using migration, invasion, and proliferation assays. Besides, cell apoptosis was quantified by flow cytometry. To investigate the tumorigenic effects of MYBL2 knockdown in vivo, A375 cells with MYBL2 knockdown were injected in BALB/C nude mice. Soft magnetic composites (SMCs) play a crucial role in modern electronics and electrical devices, for which challenges remain in maintaining magnetic performance and reducing loss at megahertz (MHz) frequencies. Here, CeFeCo/FeSiAl@ polyurethane (PU) SMCs have been rationally designed with the simultaneous achievement of large relative permeability, high domain-wall resonance frequency, and low power loss. As a rare-earth soft magnetic alloy, the CeFeCo is promising for high-frequency applications due to its easy-plane anisotropy, whereas FeSiAl is advantageous with increased electrical resistivity as well as approaching-zero magnetocrystalline anisotropy and magnetostriction. Hot pressing has been adopted to achieve a dense and homogeneous distribution of CeFeCo and FeSiAl powders in the PU for reduced magnetic dilution and eddy current loss. The resultant SMCs exhibit optional soft magnetic performance with large relative permeability of 21.0, low power loss of 3677.5 kW·m−3 at 5 MHz, and high domain-wall resonance frequency of 386.1 MHz. As such this work provides insights into the design of high-frequency SMCs incorporating novel rare-earth soft magnetic alloys.

Vitamin C (VC) possesses antioxidant and whitening effects. However, its effectiveness is hindered by challenges such as instability, impaired solubility, and limited bioavailability hinder. In this study, VC was encapsulated in nanoliposomes by primary emulsification and high-pressure homogenization. The VC nanoliposomes were comprehensively characterized for their microscopic morphology, particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), and encapsulation efficiency (EE). Orthogonal experiments were designed to optimize the optimal preparation process, and the antioxidant activity, whitening efficacy, transdermal absorption, and stability of VC nanoliposomes were evaluated based on this optimized process. The findings demonstrated the high reproducibility of the optimal process, with particle size, PDI, and EE values of 113.502 ± 4.360 nm, 0.104 ± 0.010, and 56.09 ± 1.01 %, respectively. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed effective encapsulation of VC nanoliposomes with better thermal stability than aqueous VC solution. Besides, the VC nanoliposomes demonstrated excellent antioxidant and whitening effects in efficacy experiments, stronger skin permeability in transdermal experiments and fluorescence tracking. Furthermore, storage stability tests indicated that the VC in nanoliposomes remained relatively stable after 60 days of storage. These findings highlighted the potential use of VC nanoliposomes in a wide range of applications for the cosmetic market, especially in the development of ingredients for skin care products.

BackgroundHeat stroke is a severe heat-related illness, and it is necessary to explain in depth the effect of high temperature on heat stroke in the context of global warming. ObjectiveTo describe the epidemiological characteristics of reported heat stroke cases in Shanghai from 2013 to 2022, analyze the influence of daily mean temperature threshold on heat stroke, and identify susceptible populations, so as to provide data support for the development of relevant social and public policies. MethodsData from case reports on heat stroke were collected in Shanghai from 2013 to 2022. Heat stroke associated daily mean temperature threshold, lag effects, and susceptible populations were estimated using piecewise regression model and distributed lag non-linear model. ResultsAmong the 3479 cases reported from June to August of 2013—2022 in Shanghai, the male-to-female ratio was 3.34. A positive association between daily mean temperature and heat stroke was found, the association was strongest on the day of exposure and persisted until lag day 2, with an estimated threshold at 33.1 ℃. Using the median value of daily mean temperature as the reference value (28.1 ℃), the peak cumulative effect of extreme high temperature (33.1 ℃) appeared at lag 0-2 days with a relative risk (RR) value and its 95%CI of 25.32 (17.49-36.64) for all included cases; the RRs for male and female were 26.33 (17.78, 38.98) and 25.20 (12.52, 50.72), respectively, and no statistically significant difference was found between sexes (P＞0.05); the RRs were much greater in population aged 45-64 years (25.17, 95%CI: 15.54, 40.78) and 65 years and above (76.98, 95%CI: 34.80, 170.30), significantly higher than the values in those aged 16-44 years (20.22, 95%CI: 12.22, 33.44) (P＜0.05); urban areas showed a greater RR (49.09, 95%CI: 19.60, 122.95) than rural areas (23.65, 95%CI: 16.13, 34.67) (P＜0.05). ConclusionHigh temperature is significantly associated with heat stroke cases reported in Shanghai, with a threshold of 33.1℃ for daily mean temperature. The middle-aged and elderly adults and urban residents are more vulnerable to heat stress than those younger and living in rural areas.

Abstract Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and proliferation play important roles in epithelial cancer formation and progression, but what molecules and how they trigger EMT is largely unknown. Here we performed spatial transcriptomic and functional analyses on samples of multistage esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (ESCC) from mice and humans to decipher these critical issues. By investigating spatiotemporal gene expression patterns and cell–cell interactions, we demonstrated that the aberrant epithelial cell interaction via EFNB1-EPHB4 triggers EMT and cell cycle mediated by downstream SRC/ERK/AKT signaling. The aberrant epithelial cell interaction occurs within the basal layer at early precancerous lesions, which expands to the whole epithelial layer and strengthens along the cancer development and progression. Functional analysis revealed that the aberrant EFNB1-EPHB4 interaction is caused by overexpressed ΔNP63 due to TP53 mutation, the culprit in human ESCC tumorigenesis. Our results shed new light on the role of TP53-TP63/ΔNP63-EFNB1-EPHB4 axis in EMT and cell proliferation in epithelial cancer formation.

AbstractPolymeric composites with the hybrid filler network for high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding brought increasing interest. Herein, UHMWPE/ground tire rubber (GTR)/conductive carbon black (CCB) (UGC) composites with a hybrid segregated structural CCB-GTR were constructed by solid-phase shear milling (S3M), mechanical blending, and compacted molding processes. The percolation behavior of electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of composites was described using Sigmoidal/Growth models, and its EMI shielding mechanism was discussed. Results showed that the EMI SE of U30G70C20, U50G50C20, and U70G30C20 composites were found to be 37.5, 41.7, and 43.8 dB, respectively, due to constructing a hybrid network. The attenuation rate of microwave radiation is above 99.99%, and the shielding mechanism is mainly electrical loss. Moreover, the relationship between electrical conductivity and EMI SE is consistent with Sigmoidal/Growth models, indicating that Sigmoidal/Growth models can successfully predict the percolation threshold of the EMI SE of UGC composites.

Abstract Snoring affects 57 % of men, 40 % of women, and 27 % of children in the USA. Besides, snoring is highly correlated with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), which is characterised by loud and frequent snoring. OSA is also closely associated with various life-threatening diseases such as sudden cardiac arrest and is regarded as a grave medical ailment. Preliminary studies have shown that in the USA, OSA affects over 34 % of men and 14 % of women. In recent years, polysomnography has increasingly been used to diagnose OSA. However, due to its drawbacks such as being time-consuming and costly, intelligent audio analysis of snoring has emerged as an alternative method. Considering the higher demand for identifying the excitation location of snoring in clinical practice, we utilised the Munich-Passau Snore Sound Corpus (MPSSC) snoring database which classifies the snoring excitation location into four categories. Nonetheless, the problem of small samples remains in the MPSSC database due to factors such as privacy concerns and difficulties in accurate labelling. In fact, accurately labelled medical data that can be used for machine learning is often scarce, especially for rare diseases. In view of this, Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML), a small sample method based on meta-learning, is used to classify snore signals with less resources in this work. The experimental results indicate that even when using only the ESC-50 dataset (non-snoring sound signals) as the data for meta-training, we are able to achieve an unweighted average recall of 60.2 % on the test dataset after fine-tuning on just 36 instances of snoring from the development part of the MPSSC dataset. While our results only exceed the baseline by 4.4 %, they still demonstrate that even with fine-tuning on a few instances of snoring, our model can outperform the baseline. This implies that the MAML algorithm can effectively tackle the low-resource problem even with limited data resources.

2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP) is a new kind of pollutant that is highly toxic and difficult to be biodegraded. In this study, the feasibility of using exogenous growth regulator salicylic acid (SA) to improve the purification ability of Salix matsudana (S. matsudana) seedlings to 2,4-DNP stress was investigated by a hydroponic simulation experiment. The main research results are as follows: (1) After adding exogenous SA, a high concentration of SA (1000 mg·L−1) inhibited the photosynthetic process and the normal physiological process of the chlorophyll fluorescence system of S. matsudana seedlings to a certain extent. When adding a low concentration of SA (10 mg·L−1) to treat S. matsudana seedlings, all exogenous treatment groups could alleviate the stress of 2,4-DNP on the photosynthetic system and chlorophyll fluorescence system of S. matsudana seedlings, and 10 mg·L−1 SA (DNP + S1) was the best. (2) The addition of exogenous SA could alleviate the damage of 2,4-DNP to S. matsudana seedlings by enhancing the activity of its antioxidant enzymes to remove excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body and reducing the level of membrane lipid peroxidation and the size of membrane damage. The treatment with 10 mg·L−1 SA had the best effect. (3) Exogenous low concentration of SA (10 mg·L−1) could alleviate the decline of biomass index of S. matsudana seedlings under 2,4-DNP stress, but a high concentration of SA (1000 mg·L−1) could not alleviate the 2,4-DNP toxicity of S. matsudana seedlings leaves. Exogenous SA could effectively alleviate the growth damage caused by 2,4-DNP stress on S. matsudana seedlings and increase the tolerance threshold range of S. matsudana seedlings to 2,4-DNP (8.81–33.78 mg·L−1). (4) Exogenous addition of SA could increase the removal percentage of 2,4-DNP in Salix matsudana seedlings. Among them, the removal percentage of Salix matsudana was the highest at 10 mg·L−1 SA, which was 1.46 times (5 days) and 1.19 times (10 days) higher than that of the DNP treatment group, respectively. Overall, when SA reached 10 mg·L−1, the photosynthetic productivity of S. matsudana was the highest, and S. matsudana had the best purification effect on 2,4-DNP in wastewater.

Solid-state ionic thermoelectric generators have emerged as promising solutions for efficient harvesting of low-grade waste heat. However, the main challenge in achieving continuous power supply is the low efficiency of thermoelectric conversion. In this work, substantial achievements have been made in improving the thermoelectric conversion characteristics by introducing redox pairs on the electrode surfaces. This approach takes advantage of the synergistic effect of thermal diffusion and thermoelectric effects to maximize the conversion efficiency. To improve the thermoelectric storage and output power performance, Prussian blue was attached to a carbon woven fabric and used as an electrode. The incorporation of Prussian blue/carbon woven fabric electrodes results in an increase in current density output and an instantaneous power density of 3.7 mW/m2·K2. Furthermore, under a temperature gradient of 10 K, the output energy density for 2 h is 194 J/m2, and the Carnot relative efficiency is as high as 0.12% at a hot side temperature (TH) of 30 °C and a cold side temperature (TC) of 20 °C. Our findings validate the efficacy of integrating thermal diffusion and redox reactions in ionic thermoelectric generators, paving the way for the progress of thermocharged devices and their potential commercial applications.

Abstract Aim This study aimed to determine the psychosocial markers associated with pre‐hospital delay among patients with diabetic foot (DF). Design This study has a cross‐sectional design. Methods The participants completed a questionnaire including pre‐hospital time, demographic characteristics, Social Support Rate Scale, Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire and Type D Personality Scale‐14. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to explore independent associations with pre‐hospital delay. Results Only 1.8% (3/164) of participants arrived at the hospital for medical care in 24 h of symptom onset. Patients with low utilization of social support (p = 0.029), low negative illness perceptions (p = 0.014) and high levels of negative affectivity (p = 0.009) are likely to arrive late at the clinic. Medical staff should pay attention to identifying diabetic patients' Type D personalities and take actions to improve their social support as well as illness perception, so as to reduce the occurrence of hospital delay. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care Psychosocial factors play a vital role in the delay in seeking medical treatment for patients with DF. Medical staff need to improve patients' illness perception as well as self‐management ability through health education. Importantly, key family members provide an emotional and psychological support system for diabetic patients. Therefore, nurses need to work with family members together to give information and psychological support during family visits. Additionally, building and maintaining trust with patients is crucial to encouraging individuals to express their concerns and worries. In this case, nurses may identify patients' negative emotions and conduct timely intervention, so as to achieve favourable outcomes. To address the practical application challenges of conductive polymer composites (CPCs) in portable electronics equipment, such as their low thermal conductivity (TC) and poor electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (EMI SE), it is crucial to improve their TC, electrical conductivity(σ), and EMI SE of CPCs. In this work, we present a conducting composite made of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and carbon nanostructures (CNS) with a unique segregated structure. This structure is achieved through a simple high-speed mechanical mixing and compression molding process. Microscopy characteristics demonstrated that both the matrix and segregated conductive network were in-situ oriented along the compress direction of UHMWPE granules under the static hot-pressing field. CNS are compacted together at the interface between UHMWPE granules to form an oriented and interconnected conductive pathways at low CNS loading levels. The resultant UHMWPE/CNS composites with 10 wt% CNS content exhibits excellent EMI shielding performance, with EMI SE of 60.7 dB (at X-band), high conductivity of 2.42 S/cm, and acceptable thermal conductivity of 0.7217 (W/m K). High EMI shielding performance and absorption dominant mechanism are beneficial from the unique segregated structure, and individual CNS coated UHMWPE granule are similar to an electromagnetic cage. Additionally, the ultimate tensile strength of the composite remains high at 37.6 MPa even at 10.0 wt% CNS loading, and it shows effective thermal stability. These properties are attributed to the strong interfacial bonding between CNS and UHMWPE. These materials have potential applications in efficient thermal management and EMI shielding for high-performance intelligent electrical devices.

X80 pipeline steel has played a vital role in oil and gas transportation in recent years. However, hydrogen-related issues frequently lead to pipeline failures during service, resulting in significant losses of properties and lives. Three heat treatment processes (furnace cooling (FC), air cooling (AC), and water cooling (WC)) were carried out to investigate the effect of different microstructures on hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) susceptibility of X80 pipeline steel. The WC sample demonstrated the highest hydrogen embrittlement index, registering at 21.9%, while the AC and FC samples exhibited progressively lower values of 15.45% and 10.98%, respectively. Under equivalent hydrogen charging durations, crack dimensions with a maximum length exceeding 30 μm in the WC sample generally exceed those in the FC sample and AC sample. The variation is attributed to the difference in microstructures of the samples, predominantly lath bainite (LB) in water-cooled samples, granular bainite (GB) in air-cooled samples, and ferrite/pearlite (F/P) in FC samples. The research results demonstrate that the sensitivity of lath bainite (LB) to HIC is significantly higher than that of pearlite, ferrite, and granular bainite (GB). The presence of a large amount of martensite/austenite (M/A) constituents within bainite results in a multitude of hydrogen trap sites. HIC cracks in bainite generally propagate along the profiles of M/A constituents, showing both intergranular and transgranular cracking modes.

Given the widespread prevalence of viruses, there is an escalating demand for antimicrobial composites. Although the composite of dialdehyde cellulose and silver nanoparticles (DAC@Ag1) exhibits excellent antibacterial properties, its weak mechanical characteristics hinder its practical applicability. To address this limitation, cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were initially ammoniated to yield N-CNF, which was subsequently incorporated into DAC@Ag1 as an enhancer, forming DAC@Ag1/N-CNF. We systematically investigated the optimal amount of N-CNF and characterized the DAC@Ag1/N-CNF using FT-IR, XPS, and XRD analyses to evaluate its additional properties. Notably, the optimal mass ratio of N-CNF to DAC@Ag1 was found to be 5:5, resulting in a substantial enhancement in mechanical properties, with a 139.8% increase in tensile elongation and a 33.1% increase in strength, reaching 10% and 125.24 MPa, respectively, compared to DAC@Ag1 alone. Furthermore, the inhibition zones against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were significantly expanded to 7.9 mm and 15.9 mm, respectively, surpassing those of DAC@Ag1 alone by 154.8% and 467.9%, indicating remarkable improvements in antimicrobial efficacy. Mechanism analysis highlighted synergistic effects from chemical covalent bonding and hydrogen bonding in the DAC@Ag1/N-CNF, enhancing the mechanical and antimicrobial properties significantly. The addition of N-CNF markedly augmented the properties of the composite film, thereby facilitating its broader application in the antimicrobial field.

Deep models may have disappointing performance in real applications due to the domain shifts in data distributions between the source and target domain. Although a few unsupervised domain adaptation methods have been proposed to make the pre-train models effective on target domain datasets, constraints like data privacy, security, and transmission limits restrict access to VHR remote sensing images, making existing unsupervised domain adaptation methods almost ineffective in specific change detection areas. Therefore, we propose a source-free unsupervised domain adaptation change detection structure to complete specific change detection tasks, using only the pre-trained source model and unlabelled target data. The GAN-based source generation component is designed to generate synthetic source data, which, to some extent, reflects the distribution of the source domain. Moreover, these data can be utilised in model knowledge transfer. The model adaptation component facilitates knowledge transfer between models by minimising the differences between deep features, using AAM (Attention Adaptation Module) to extract the difference between high-level features, meanwhile we proposed ISM (Intra-domain Self-supervised Module) to train target model in a self-supervised strategy in order to improve the knowledge adaptation. Our SFDA-CD framework demonstrates superior accuracy over existing unsupervised domain adaptation change detection methods, which has 0.6% cIoU and 1.5% F1 score up in cross-regional tasks and 1.4% cIoU and 1.9% F1 score up in cross-scenario tasks, proving that it can effectively reduce the domain shift between the source and target domains even without access to source data. Additionally, it can facilitate knowledge transfer from the source model to the target model.

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer. Known risk variants explain only a small fraction of lung adenocarcinoma heritability. Here, we conducted a two-stage genome-wide association study of lung adenocarcinoma of East Asian ancestry (21,658 cases and 150,676 controls; 54.5% never-smokers) and identified 12 novel susceptibility variants, bringing the total number to 28 at 25 independent loci. Transcriptome-wide association analyses together with colocalization studies using a Taiwanese lung expression quantitative trait loci dataset (n = 115) identified novel candidate genes, including FADS1 at 11q12 and ELF5 at 11p13. In a multi-ancestry meta-analysis of East Asian and European studies, four loci were identified at 2p11, 4q32, 16q23, and 18q12. At the same time, most of our findings in East Asian populations showed no evidence of association in European populations. In our studies drawn from East Asian populations, a polygenic risk score based on the 25 loci had a stronger association in never-smokers vs. individuals with a history of smoking (Pinteraction = 0.0058). These findings provide new insights into the etiology of lung adenocarcinoma in individuals from East Asian populations, which could be important in developing translational applications.

To realize power dispatch and equilibrium in DC distribution networks, a distributed adaptive coordinated control strategy is proposed. Based on the consistency theory, photovoltaics, energy storage and other units in the network can be considered as the same nodes involved in control, where power deviation and equalization coefficient are chosen as state variables in each node. By the interaction and iteration among adjacent nodes, each node can adaptively adjust the operation state according to the dispatching command. On the premise of effectively accepting the real-time dispatching command and optimal control of energy storage, the regulation ability of distributed power supply is fully utilized to suppress the power imbalance of internal load in the system. Meanwhile, the power provided by each distributed source is proportional to its rated capacity under different operating scenarios by adjusting the power reference, and the the prediction the output of each distributed sources is not required. When each individual distributed power supply loses its adjustment ability, the balance of utilization rate of other units can still be ensured. Simulation results under various scenarios verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Abstract Tumor microenvironment and metabolic reprogramming are critical for tumor metastasis. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) are widely involved in the formation of tumor microenvironment and present oncogenic phenotypes to facilitate lymph node metastasis (LNM) in response to small extracellular vesicles (sEV) released by gastric cancer (GC) cells. However, whether metabolic reprograming mediates transformation of BM-MSCs remains elusive. Herein, we revealed that the capacity of LNM-GC-sEV educating BM-MSCs was positively correlated with the LNM capacity of GC cells themselves. Fatty acid oxidation (FAO) metabolic reprogramming was indispensable for this process. Mechanistically, CD44 was identified as a critical cargo for LNM-GC-sEV enhancing FAO via ERK/PPARγ/CPT1A signaling. ATP was shown to activate STAT3 and NF-κB signaling to induce IL-8 and STC1 secretion by BM-MSCs, thereby in turn facilitating GC cells metastasis and increasing CD44 levels in GC cells and sEV to form a persistent positive feedback loop between GC cells and BM-MSCs. The critical molecules were abnormally expressed in GC tissues, sera and stroma, and correlated with the prognosis and LNM of GC patients. Together, our findings uncover the role of metabolic reprogramming mediated BM-MSCs education by LNM-GC-sEV, which presents a novel insight into the mechanism underlying LNM and provides candidate targets for GC detection and therapy.

In this study, graded tantalum scaffolds were manufactured by electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF). Compression-compression fatigue testing was conducted on the EB-PBF built graded tantalum scaffolds. The compressive fatigue behavior and compressive fatigue strength of graded tantalum scaffolds with vertical gradient (VG) and parallel gradient (PG) states were investigated. In the fatigue testing, the failure of PG graded scaffold was concentrated on the lowest strength constituent, resulting in higher cyclic ratcheting strain and fatigue damage strain. In terms of the VG graded scaffold, due to the simultaneous uniform deformation of each structure, the strain accumulation in a single cycle was small, resulting in the low cyclic ratcheting strain. In addition, the propagation of fatigue cracks in pore structure with higher strength can be retarded by the stress redistribution, resulting in the low fatigue damage strain. Therefore, the design idea of graded pore structure under identical strain condition is beneficial to obtain porous tantalum scaffold with high compressive fatigue strength.

SiC, as a representative of the third generation semiconductors, is widely investigated in power devices and sensors. However, ohmic contacts, an important component for signal output of various SiC chips, have always faced challenges with unclear formation mechanism and difficulty to withstand high temperature. To solve such problems, two sets of NPN-type SiC ohmic contact were prepared, including Ti/TaSi2/Pt and Ni/W. Experimental results show that whether ohmic contact can be formed mainly depends on the contact metal. The alloy phase with lower work function is formed after high temperature annealing, which reduces the height and width of the Schottky barrier. For the prepared SiC ohmic contacts, It was demonstrated that the invasion of oxygen atoms cause contacts failure, and incorporation of barrier layer (Ta-based layer) and effective protective layer (Pt layer) determine whether high temperatures can be tolerated. Finally, piezoresistive 4H–SiC pressure sensor chips with dimensions of 3000 μm × 3000 μm × 200 μm were fabricated using the obtained ohmic contacts. Sensor chips output resistance were monitored up to 600 °C in air to show stability of the ohmic contact. The highly stable and high temperature ohmic contact can be applied in a variety of SiC devices.

Mucor circinelloides has the ability to use a wide range of carbon sources to accumulate lipids. The different carbon sources have significantly influenced the total lipids through different metabolic pathways in oleaginous organisms. In the present study, the effects of exogenous oil (soybean oil) at different concentrations as an alternative carbon source on its fungal growth and lipid accumulation were investigated without changing fermentation culture conditions and the original C/N ratio, while using 100% glucose as a control. Total lipids and their fatty acid composition were determined by gas chromatography (GC). Moreover, the expression levels of desaturases genes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis were investigated in the studied strains using real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. The results showed that a concentration of 35 g/L of glucose mixed with 24.3 g/L of soybean oil were the optimal carbon sources with constant carbon to nitrogen ratio. The biomass, lipid content and lipid yield of M. circinelloides grown in this medium increased rapidly in the early stage of fermentation, and the growth trend gradually slowed down in the late stage of fermentation, decreasing slightly after 72 h of fermentation. It was found that the highest biomass, total lipids, and lipid yields were significantly increased at 19.60 g/L, 42.62%, and 8.35 g/L (33.15%, 23.8%, and 65.10%), respectively. In contrast, the control group (those cultured on glucose as a single carbon source) was only 14.72 g/L, 34.41%, and 5.06 g/L, respectively. Abstract Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) pressure sensors based on silicon are widely used and offer the benefits of miniaturization and high precision. However, they cannot easily withstand high temperatures exceeding 150 °C because of intrinsic material limits. Herein, we proposed and executed a systematic and full-process study of SiC-based MEMS pressure sensors that operate stably from −50 to 300 °C. First, to explore the nonlinear piezoresistive effect, the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) values of 4H-SiC piezoresistors were obtained from −50 to 500 °C. A conductivity variation model based on scattering theory was established to reveal the nonlinear variation mechanism. Then, a piezoresistive pressure sensor based on 4H-SiC was designed and fabricated. The sensor shows good output sensitivity (3.38 mV/V/MPa), accuracy (0.56% FS) and low temperature coefficient of sensitivity (TCS) (−0.067% FS/°C) in the range of −50 to 300 °C. In addition, the survivability of the sensor chip in extreme environments was demonstrated by its anti-corrosion capability in H2SO4 and NaOH solutions and its radiation tolerance under 5 W X-rays. Accordingly, the sensor developed in this work has high potential to measure pressure in high-temperature and extreme environments such as are faced in geothermal energy extraction, deep well drilling, aeroengines and gas turbines.

Aspergillus fumigatus, a prevalent saprophytic fungus in the atmosphere, is known to rapidly induce severe invasive aspergillosis (IA) upon inhalation of its conidia by humans or animals. The mortality rate associated with IA exceeds 50%. The misuse of antifungal agents has contributed to the emergence of numerous highly pathogenic drug-resistant strains of A. fumigatus. Our study found that the combination of domiphen and itraconazole had sound synergistic antimicrobial effects against wild-type and itraconazole-resistant A. fumigatus in vivo and in vitro through MIC, FIC, plate inoculation, growth curve experiments, and Galleria mellonella infection model. Drug cytotoxicity and pharmacological tests for acute toxicity assays demonstrated that both itraconazole and domiphen showed minimal cytotoxicity and good biocompatibility. The transcriptome sequencing experiment demonstrated that domiphen exerted a suppressive effect on the expression of various genes, including those involved in drug efflux, redox regulation, and cellular membrane and cell wall remodeling. The present investigation explores the synergistic antimicrobial mechanisms of domiphen and itraconazole, encompassing three key aspects: (i) domiphen inhibited the efflux of itraconazole by reducing the expression of drug efflux-related genes, (ii) the combination has good ability to disrupt the cell membrane and cell wall, (iii) the combination also can remove biofilm more effectively. In summary, the utilization of domiphen as a synergist of itraconazole exhibited disruptive effects on the biofilm, cell wall, and cell membrane of A. fumigatus. This subsequently led to a modified distribution of itraconazole within the fungal organism, ultimately resulting in enhanced antifungal efficacy. The results of this study may provide a new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of IA caused by drug-resistant A. fumigatus.

BackgroundSyphilis has caused epidemics for hundreds of years, and the global syphilis situation remains serious. The reported incidence rate of syphilis in Zhejiang Province has ranked first in the province in terms of notifiable infectious diseases for many years and is the highest in China. This study attempts to use the scaling law theory to study the relationship between population size and different types of syphilis epidemics, while also exploring the main driving factors affecting the incidence of syphilis in different regions.MethodsData on syphilis cases and affected populations at the county level were obtained from the China Disease Control and Prevention Information System. The scaling relationship between different stages of syphilis and population size was explained by scaling law. The trend of the incidence from 2016 to 2022 was tested by the joinpoint regression. The index of distance between indices of simulation and observation (DISO) was applied to evaluate the overall performance of joinpoint regression model. Furthermore, a multivariate time series model was employed to identify the main driving components that affected the occurrence of syphilis at the county level. The p value less than 0.05 or confidence interval (CI) does not include 0 represented statistical significance for all the tests.ResultsFrom 2016 to 2022, a total of 204,719 cases of syphilis were reported in Zhejiang Province, including 2 deaths, all of which were congenital syphilis. Abstract The main obstacle of ionic thermo‐electrochemical cells (TECs) in continuous power supply lies in a low heat‐to‐electricity energy conversion efficiency because most TECs work in thermodiffusion mode in which the ions are confined in a liquid/electrolyte media. The introduction of the redox couple onto the electrode surface may overcome the obstacle by resolving the low mass transport rate of ions caused by the redox process occurring near but not on the electrode surface. Herein, the authors demonstrate enhancement of TECs by integrating the redox couple directly onto the electrode surface to maximize the mass transport efficiency. A discontinuous interfacial modification strategy is developed by using a carbon cloth/iron (II/III) phytate as the symmetric electrodes. The gelled electrolyte consisting of a polyacrylamide matrix and phytic acid is shown to promote selective ion diffusion. A synergistic combination consisting of the thermodiffusion effect and redox reactions on the electrode is established in a pre‐treated layout. Such TEC affords a high output voltage of 0.4 V, an excellent instantaneous output power density (20.26 mW m‐2 K‐2) and a record‐high 2 h output energy density (2451 J m‐2) under TH = 30 °C with TC = 15 °C, with an ultrahigh Carnot‐relative efficiency of 1.12%.

BackgroundDespite continuous advances in microsurgical and endovascular techniques, the treatment of complex aneurysms remains challenging. Aneurysms that are dilemmatic for conventional clipping or endovascular coiling often require bypass as part of a strategy to reduce the risk of ischemic complications. In anatomically favorable sites, the intracranial–intracranial in situ bypass may be an appealing choice. This article details the surgical strategies, operative nuances, and clinical outcomes of this technique with a consecutive series in our department.MethodsA retrospective review of a prospectively maintained neurosurgical patient database was performed to identify all patients treated with side-to-side in situ bypass from January 2016 to June 2022. In total, 12 consecutive patients, including 12 aneurysms, were identified and included in the series. The medical records, surgical videos, neuroimaging studies, and follow-up clinic notes were reviewed for every patient.ResultsOf the 12 aneurysms, there were 5 middle cerebral artery aneurysms, 4 anterior cerebral artery aneurysms, and 3 posterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysms. The morphology of the aneurysms was fusiform in 8 patients and saccular in the remaining 4 patients. There were 3 patients presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. The treatment modality was simple in situ bypass in 8 cases and in situ bypass combined with other modalities in 4 cases. Bypass patency was confirmed in all cases by intraoperative micro-doppler probe and (or) infrared indocyanine green (ICG) video angiography intraoperatively and with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) or computed tomography angiography (CTA) postoperatively. None of the patients developed a clinically manifested stroke due to the procedure though a callosomarginal artery was intentionally removed in one patient. The median follow-up period was 16.2 months (6-36). All patients had achieved improved or unchanged modified Rankin scale scores at the final follow-ups.ConclusionCerebral revascularization technique remains an essential skill for the treatment of complex aneurysms. The in situ bypass is one of the most effective techniques to revascularize efferent territory when vital artery sacrifice or occlusion is unavoidable. The configuration of in situ bypass should be carefully tailored to each case, with consideration of variations in anatomy and pathology of the complex aneurysms.

Summary: Esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (ESCC) is commonly treated with radiotherapy; however, radioresistance hinders its clinical effectiveness, and the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Here, we develop patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) from 19 patients with ESCC to investigate the mechanisms driving radioresistance. Using RNA sequencing, cytokine arrays, and single-cell RNA sequencing, we reveal an enrichment of cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF)-derived collagen type 1 (Col1) and tumor-cell-derived CXCL1 in non-responsive PDXs. Col1 not only promotes radioresistance by augmenting DNA repair capacity but also induces CXCL1 secretion in tumor cells. Additionally, CXCL1 further activates CAFs via the CXCR2-STAT3 pathway, establishing a positive feedback loop. Directly interfering with tumor-cell-derived CXCL1 or inhibiting the CXCL1-CXCR2 pathway effectively restores the radiosensitivity of radioresistant xenografts in vivo. Collectively, our study provides a comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying radioresistance and identifies potential targets to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy for ESCC.

The large-scale production of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), including both embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), shows potential for advancing the translational realization of hPSC technology. Among multiple cell culture methods, suspension culture, also known as three-dimensional (3D) culture, stands out as a promising method to fulfill the large-scale production requirements. Under this 3D culture condition, cell expansion and the preservation of pluripotency and identity during long-term culture heavily relies on the culture medium. However, the xenogeneic supplements in culture medium remains an obstacle for the translation of cell and gene therapy applications from bench to bedside. Here, we tested human platelet lysate (hPL), a xeno-free and serum-free biological material, as a supplement in the 3D culture of hPSCs. We observed reduced intercellular variability and enhanced proliferation in both hESC and hiPSC lines. These cells, after extended culture in the hPL-supplemented system, maintained pluripotency marker expression, the capacity to differentiate into cells of all three germ layers, and normal karyotype, confirming the practicability and safety of hPL supplementation. Furthermore, through RNA-sequencing analysis, we found an upregulation of genes associated with cell cycle regulations in hPL-treated cells, consistent with the improved cellular division efficiency. Taken together, our findings underscore the potential of hPL as a xeno-free and serum-free supplement for the large-scale production of hPSCs, which holds promise for advancing clinical applications of these cells.

Abstract Wound repair, along with skin appendage regeneration, is challenged by insufficient angiogenesis and neural regeneration. Therefore, promoting both proangiogenic and neuro-regenerative therapeutic effects is essential for effective wound repair. However, most therapeutic systems apply these strategies separately or ineffectively. This study investigates the performance of an all-in-one smart dressing (ASD) that integrates angiogenic functional materials and multiple biological factors within a light crosslinked hydrogel, forming a multi-functional dressing capable of facilitating simultaneous micro-vascularization and neural regeneration. The ASD uses a zeolite-imidazolate framework 67 with anchored vanadium oxide (VO2@ZIF-67) that allows for the on-demand release of Co2+ with fluctuations in pH at the wound site to stimulate angiogenesis. It can simultaneously release CXCL12, ligustroflavone, and ginsenoside Rg1 in a sustained manner to enhance the recruitment of endogenous mesenchymal stem cells, inhibit senescence, and induce neural differentiation to achieve in situ nerve regeneration. The ASD can stimulate rapid angiogenesis and nerve regeneration within 17 days through multiple angiogenic and neuro-regenerative cues within one dressing. This study provides a proof-of-concept for integrating functional nanomaterials and multiple complementary drugs within a smart dressing for simultaneous angiogenesis and neural regeneration.

Remote sensing change detection (CD) is used to detect the difference in the state of objects or phenomena by observing it at different times. CD is widely used in disaster monitoring, land-use and land-cover change analysis, urban expansion detection, and other fields. Medium-resolution (MR) remote sensing imagery can be used for global and regional CD due to the real-time acquisition, extensive coverage, and historical data advantages. Therefore, medium-resolution remote sensing imagery change detection (MRCD) is a very important topic. Compared with very high resolution (VHR) imagery, MR imagery has less texture and edge information. Besides, the object has a large-scale size in VHR imagery scene while the same object will only have a small-scale size in MR imagery scene. To solve the challenge of MRCD, we propose a joint spatial–spectral–temporal network for MRCD, named Multiscale Convolution Channel Attention coupling full convolutional BiLSTM Network (MC2ABNet). The MC2ABNet consists of multiscale convolutional channel attention (MC2A) module and fully Convolutional Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvBiLSTM) network. In the encoder, MC2A module is used to extract multiscale spatial features from multitemporal imagery at each encoding level by sharing structure, parameters, and weights. In each MC2A module, the multiscale convolution extracts multiscale spatial features with different receptive fields, and then the channel attention is used to ease the information redundancy during downsampling. The ConvBiLSTM is applied to calculate the time difference features in both forward and backward directions and utilizes spatial information synergistically to smooth change noise for obtaining complete time difference features. The extensive experiments have been conducted on ONERA satellite change detection and SpaceNet7 datasets. Compared with other state-of-the-art methods, our network achieves the highest accuracy on both datasets.

The rapid advancement of automated artificial intelligence algorithms and remote sensing instruments has benefited change detection (CD) tasks. However, there is still a lot of space to study for precise detection, especially the edge integrity and internal holes phenomenon of change features. In order to solve these problems, we design the change guiding network (CGNet) to tackle the insufficient expression problem of change features in the conventional U-Net structure adopted in previous methods, which causes inaccurate edge detection and internal holes. Change maps from deep features with rich semantic information are generated and used as prior information to guide multiscale feature fusion, which can improve the expression ability of change features. Meanwhile, we propose a self-attention module named change guide module, which can effectively capture the long-distance dependency among pixels and effectively overcomes the problem of the insufficient receptive field of traditional convolutional neural networks. On four major CD datasets, we verify the usefulness and efficiency of the CGNet, and a large number of experiments and ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of CGNet.

Benefiting from the developments in deep learning technology, deep-learning-based algorithms employing automatic feature extraction have achieved remarkable performance on the change detection (CD) task. However, the performance of existing deep-learning-based CD methods is hindered by the imbalance between changed and unchanged pixels. To tackle this problem, a progressive foreground-balanced sampling strategy on the basis of not adding change information is proposed in this article to help the model accurately learn the features of the changed pixels during the early training process and thereby improve detection performance. Furthermore, we design a discriminative Siamese network, hierarchical attention network (HANet), which can integrate multiscale features and refine detailed features. The main part of HANet is the HAN module, which is a lightweight and effective self-attention mechanism. Extensive experiments and ablation studies on two CD datasets with extremely unbalanced labels validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

Sodium nitrate passivation has been developed as a new insulation technology for the production of FeSiAl soft magnetic composites (SMCs). In this work, the evolution of coating layers grown at different pH values is investigated involving analyses on their composition and microstructure. An insulation coating obtained using an acidic NaNO3 solution is found to contain Fe2O3, SiO2, Al2O3, and AlO(OH). The Fe2O3 transforms into Fe3O4 with weakened oxidizability of the NO3– at an elevated pH, whereas an alkaline NaNO3 solution leads to the production of Al2O3, AlO(OH), and SiO2. Such growth is explained from both thermodynamic and kinetic perspectives and is correlated to the soft magnetic properties of the FeSiAl SMCs. Under tuned passivation conditions, optimal performance with an effective permeability of 97.2 and a core loss of 296.4 mW∙cm−3 is achieved at 50 kHz and 100 mT.

Background & Aims: Liver ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury represents a major risk factor in both partial hepatectomy and liver transplantation. Nerve injury–induced protein 1 (Ninj1) is widely recognized as an adhesion molecule in leukocyte trafficking under inflammatory conditions, but its role in regulating sterile inflammation during liver IR injury remains unclear. Methods: Myeloid Ninj1-deficient mice were generated by bone marrow chimeric models using Ninj1 knockout mice and wild-type mice. In vivo, a liver partial warm ischemia model was applied. Liver injury and hepatic inflammation were investigated. In vitro, primary Kupffer cells (KCs) isolated from Ninj1 knockout and wild-type mice were used to explore the function and mechanism of Ninj1 in modulating KC inflammation upon lipopolysaccharide stimulation. Results: Ninj1 deficiency in KCs protected mice against liver IR injury during the later phase of reperfusion, especially in neutrophil infiltration, intrahepatic inflammation, and hepatocyte apoptosis. This prompted ischemia-primed KCs to decrease proinflammatory cytokine production. In vitro and in vivo, using small-interfering RNA against dual-specificity phosphatase 1 (DUSP1), we found that Ninj1 deficiency diminished the inflammatory response in KCs and neutrophil infiltration through DUSP1-dependent deactivation of the c-Jun-N-terminal kinase and p38 pathways. Sivelestat, a neutrophil elastase inhibitor, functioned similarly to Ninj1 deficiency, resulting in both mitigated hepatic IR injury in mice and a more rapid recovery of liver function in patients undergoing liver resection. Conclusions: The Ninj1/Dusp1 axis contributes to liver IR injury by regulating the proinflammatory response of KCs, and influences neutrophil infiltration, partly by subsequent regulation of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1) production after IR.

As a new type of power electronic device to replace traditional mechanical switches, the soft open point (SOP) has the advantages of fast response speed and controllable power flow. In this paper, a novel cascaded H-bridge SOP with shared modules is proposed, which simplifies its structure and saves some modules. However, the traditional control method is no longer applicable, so a new square-wave-like modulation method suitable for common modules is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the modulation wave of the shared module is calculated according to the specific working conditions, and then the modulation wave of the non shared module is calculated in coordination to achieve the modulation of all modules of the new topology. Square-wave-like modulation adds zero level time on the basis of square wave modulation to reduce the instantaneous change value of shared module voltage during zero crossing. At the same time, the phase of the modulated wave can be changed by coordinating the zero level time and phase relationship to avoid the occurrence of over modulation of non shared modules. Finally, a three-phase experimental platform with common module SOP is built to verify the correctness and effectiveness of square-wave-like modulation strategy.

A hybrid direct current transformer (DCT) with modular multilevel structure and series-connected switches experiences current spike in sub-module branch when using original control method. The existence of current spike causes extra current stress on components. Based on the operating principle and current waveforms, an optimization modulation method is proposed, which is based on the phase shift of medium-voltage side full-bridge. The current stress of series-connected switches branch is analyzed, combined with limitation of phase shift angle for operation safety, the algorithm for the optimum phase shift angle is determined, and the optimized control strategy is established. This strategy is independent of the original power control loop, so it does not change the power transmission status and interfere with power control, which makes it easy to be put into practical application. The effectiveness of current stress reduction is verified by simulation and prototype test, and a certain improvement of efficiency is shown by the results of prototype test. Based on the analysis of operation principle and simulation and test results, the optimal control strategy is proved to have positive significance for the safe operation of equipment and selection of components.

Abstract In this work, we investigate the scattering of massless plane scalar waves by the high dimensional non-commutative Schwarzschild–Tangherlini black hole. We use the partial wave approach to determine the scattering and absorption cross sections in the incident wavelength range. Our numerical results demonstrate that the bigger the non-commutative parameter, the smaller the maximum value of the related partial absorption cross section, however the tendency is slightly. We also discovered that when the non-commutative parameter is weak, the absorption cross section of the high dimensional black hole oscillates in the low frequency zone. The total absorption cross section oscillates around the geometrical optical limit in the high frequency range, and the scattering characteristics of black holes with various parameters are visibly different. The influence on the differential scattering cross section is particularly pronounced at large angles.
