The concentration of dissolved carbon dioxide in seawater affects the formation of seabed biogenic minerals, and controls the development and evolution of marine organisms, which is one of the most important indices in the marine environment and geology survey. The concentration of free carbon dioxide in bottom seawater has important academic value for the exploration of seabed minerals, marine environment monitoring, the study of the carbon cycle in seabed sediments and even the global carbon cycle. Titration is used to determine the index, whose range is between 4 mg/L and 400 mg/L. However, the concentration of free carbon dioxide in bottom seawater in some sea areas is lower than this range, thus titration may not be suitable. A method for the determination of free carbon dioxide in artificial seawater, whose name is D.B.S/Henry’s Law, is described in this paper. D.B.S/Henry’s Law indirectly determines the content of free carbon dioxide in seawater instead of directly titrating with reagents. It is simple, fast and accurate, and it is based on the law of conservation of mass/Henry’s law and CO2 dissolution mechanisms. This discovery mainly provides a new scientific perspective for the determination of trace free carbon dioxide concentration in seawater. In addition, Henry’s law constants of carbon dioxide in artificial seawater at 3–20 degrees Celsius are determined with D.B.S/Henry’s Law. These data will be used as an important reference for the determination of free carbon dioxide in seawater in the future. D.B.S/Henry’s Law may be used as a supplement of the methods specified in national and industrial standards, which are applied to the detection of carbon dioxide Henry’s constant and free carbon dioxide content in various temperature and salinity seawater. D.B.S/Henry’s Law provides a new perspective for CO2 determination and has extensive practical application value.

Musashi RNA‑binding protein 1 (MSI1) is highly expressed in several types of cancer; however, its role in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the probable mechanism underlying the involvement of MSI1 in OSCC. The results demonstrated that MSI1 was upregulated in OSCC tissues, but not in adjacent healthy tissues. MSI1 silencing resulted in decreased cell proliferative, invasive and migrative capacity. In addition, MSI1 silencing led to cell cycle arrest at the S phase, downregulation of c‑Myc and cyclin D1, and upregulation of p21 and p27 levels. Additional studies demonstrated that MSI1 suppression inhibited the activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling. Accordingly, the findings of the present study suggested that MSI1 silencing can suppress OSCC cell proliferation and progression, in part by inhibiting the activation of the c‑Myc/STAT3 pathway.

Glycerol is a new green organic solvent. It not only acts as a phase transfer catalyst but also as a recyclable solvent by significantly enhancing the intramolecular cyclization. A series of 4-aryl-7,7 -dimethyl-5-oxo-3,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydrocoumarin derivatives were synthesized by one-pot multicomponent reaction of Meldrum’s acid with benzaldehyde, and cyclohexanedione in glycerol. Compared to classic methods, this method has the advantages of milder reaction conditions, good yields, easy processing and environmental benignity.

The effects of the aldehydes crosslinkers on properties of the BC/PVA nanocomposite hydrogels were investigated. BC as the reinforcement and PVA as the matrix materials of the BC/PVA nanocomposite hydrogels, the hydrogels were prepared in coagulating bath of sodium sulfate and cross-linked with kinds of aldehydes. The hydrogels were characterized by Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), Equilibrium swelling ratio (ESR) tests, mechanical properties tests, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. It was found that the dialdehyde (glyoxal, glutaraldehyde) crosslinkers were more efficient than monoaldehyde (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde) crosslinkers. The ESR, mechanical properties of the BC/PVA nanocomposite hydrogels were obviously influenced by aldehydes crosslinkers. However, their thermo stability and crystallinity were scarcely influenced. The nanocomposite hydrogels described in this study provides information for further development and optimization of a variety of nanofiber-polymer matrix composite hydrogels.

The initiation time of reinforcement was researched for reinforced concrete (RC) members along coast regions under chlorine salt ingress and local micro-climate. Based existing chlorine erosion model, when local temperature and relative humidity were considered, the initiation time of reinforcement for RC members were calculated by using Monte-Carlo method, and the influence parameters of the initiation time were researched. According to probability theory, the probability distribution and density of the initiation time was given for RC members in tropical, subtropical and temperate zone along coast in china, for example Haikou City, Shanghai City, and Tianjin City. The research results showed: The impact on the initiation time from local temperature and relative humidity should not be ignored. It should be reasonable to consider when RC members were designed. This would be useful for structure strengthening, maintenance, and remaining life prediction.

Andrias davidianus ranavirus (ADRV) is an emerging viral pathogen that causes severe systemic hemorrhagic disease in Chinese giant salamanders. There is an urgent need for developing an effective vaccine against this fatal disease. In this study, DNA vaccines containing the ADRV 2L gene (pcDNA-2L) and the 58L gene (pcDNA-58L) were respectively constructed, and their immune protective effects were evaluated in Chinese giant salamanders. In vitro and in vivo expression of the vaccine plasmids were confirmed in transfected cells and muscle tissues of vaccinated Chinese giant salamanders by using immunoblot analysis or RT-PCR. Following ADRV challenge, the Chinese giant salamanders vaccinated with pcDNA-2L showed a relative percent survival (RPS) of 66.7%, which was significant higher than that in Chinese giant salamanders immunized with pcDNA-58L (RPS of 3.3%). Moreover, the specific antibody against ADRV was detected in Chinese giant salamanders vaccinated with pcDNA-2L at 14 and 21 days post-vaccination by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Transcriptional analysis revealed that the expression levels of immune-related genes including type I interferon (IFN), myxovirus resistance (Mx), major histocompatibility complex class IA (MHC IA), and immunoglobulin M (IgM) were strongly up-regulated after vaccination with pcDNA-2L. Furthermore, vaccination with pcDNA-2L significantly suppressed the virus replication, which was seen by a low viral load in the spleen of Chinese giant salamander survivals after ADRV challenge. These results indicated that pcDNA-2L could induce a significant innate immune response and an adaptive immune response involving both humoral and cell-mediated immunity that conferred effective protection against ADRV infection, and might be a potential vaccine candidate for controlling ADRV disease in Chinese giant salamanders.

Different from ordinary Portland cement concrete, the Polypropylene Fiber (PPF) concrete is a new type of concrete and is made through mixing PPF into common concrete. To popularize and apply PPF concrete, this paper carried out a series of experimental study on the durability of PPF concrete under chloride environments. In the present study, three chloride environment tests were conducted on PPF concrete with various volume fraction of PPF (0,0.1%,0.3%,0.5%). The scaling of concrete, the chloride penetration in concrete and the microstructure in concrete were determined. The results indicated that the scaled mass and relative dynamic modulus of elasticity loss decrease with the volume of fiber increasing, Cl-concentration has a much higher content near the sample surface, adding 0.1% PPF into concrete has the perfect resistance of Cl-penetration. More fibers can delay the development of cracks, but that will reduce the inner density of concrete.

In order to study the durability of Polypropylene fiber concrete, indoor artificial methods were used to simulate dry-wet cycle and deicer-frost damage. The results indicated that amounts of polypropylene fibers increase the flexural strength of concrete slightly. The chloride penetration depth increased as the cycles of dry-wet was increased, adding 0.1% PPF into concrete have the prefect resistance of Cl- penetration. Under salt freezing cycle, the deicer-scaling resistance of concrete is reduced by the addition of Polypropylene fiber. The corner of concrete has the largest Cl- penetration area.

To explore the performance patterns of reaction point Jingtong in balance acupuncture through multi-center and big-sample clinical investigation. Methods The Jingtong points of balance acupuncture on healthy side and affected side were observed among 230 cases of cervical spondylosis and scores of self-discomfort in reaction point, color of skin, changes of skin, morphology of subcutaneous tissue and abnormal pressing pain were recorded. The software SPSS 15.0 was applied to statistically analyze the recorded scores.Among 230 cases, the reaction point appeared in 226 cases, accounting for 98. 3%. Among the 226 cases who had reaction point, the total score of symptom and sign was (1.08+/-1.09) on the healthy side and (0. 84+/-1. 36) on the affected side, which had statistical significance (P0. 01); score of self-discomfort in reaction point was (0. 76 +/-0. 83) on the healthy side and (0. 40+/-0.80) on the affected side, which had statistical significance (P0.01); the score of skin color was (0.10+/-0.36) on the healthy side and (0. 03+/- 0. 19) on the affected side, which had statistical significance (P0. 05); the score of abnormal pressing pain was (2. 47+/-2. 46) on the healthy side and (1. 39+/-2. 37) on the affected side, which had statistical significance (P0. 01).The total score of symptom and sign of reaction point Jingtong on the healthy side is higher than that on the affected side, indicating positive reaction of Jingtong on the healthy side has specificity for cervical spondylosis. When patient has cervical spondylosis on either side of neck, the other side will have anomaly in Jingtong.
