Abstract

Organic multiferroic tunnel junctions (OMFTJs) with multi-resistance states have been proposed and drawn intensive interests due to their potential applications, for examples of memristor and spintronics based synapse devices. The ferroelectric control of spin-polarization at ferromagnet (FM)/ferroelectric organic (FE-Org) interface by electrically switching the ferroelectric polarization of the FE-Org has been recently realized. However, there is still a lack of understanding of the transport properties in OMFTJs, especially the interplay between the ferroelectric domain structure in the organic barrier and the spin-polarized electron tunneling through the barrier. Here, we report on a systematic study of the temperature dependent transport behavior in La0.6Sr0.4MnO3/PVDF/Co OMFTJs. It is found that the thermal fluctuation of the ferroelectric domains plays an important role on the transport properties. When T>120K, the opposite temperature dependence of resistance for in up and down ferroelectric polarization states results in a rapid diminishing of tunneling electroresistance (TER). These results contribute to the understanding of the transport properties for designing high performance OMFTJs for memristor and spintronics applications.

Abstract

Iron Yam chips were dried using a heat pump (HP) dryer alone or in combination with far infrared radiation (FIR) at 500, 1500 and 3000 W (500 FIR, 1500 FIR, and 3000 FIR, respectively). The experimental results were presented in terms of the drying characteristics, and dried product qualities (shrinkage, color, texture, percentage of rehydration, and moisture content). Samples with initial moisture content of approximately 76% (w.b.) were dried to a final moisture content of < 17% (w.b.) at the drying temperature of 50°C and at an air flow rate of 1.0 m s-1 for all of the experiments. The data showed that FIR+HP drying increased the drying rate by reducing the drying time, and the resulted dried Iron Yam chips generally had higher values of lightness and comparable values of redness and yellowness than the HP-treated samples. In the case of HP+1500FIR, the dried Iron Yam chips had lower shrinkage, improved rehydration ability, lower hardness and higher brittleness than those dried by HP, HP+500FIR and HP+3000FIR. It is worth noting that the total energy used for FIR-assisted drying processes decreased with the increase of FIR intensity. The present data suggest that HP+FIR drying is an effective and economical method for Iron Yam chip drying, and HP+1500FIR can obtain the best dried product.

Abstract

For fractional-slot concentrated winding permanent-magnet (PM) machines having close slot ( $Q$ ) and pole ( $p$ ) combinations, harmonic leakage inductance could be several times higher than magnetizing inductance, resulting in a low power factor and a small characteristic current. This paper tends to extend the investigation of harmonic leakage inductance to polyphase PM machines, which have been receiving great attention in safety-critical applications. The impact of phase belt and winding layer on the winding distribution factor, which is usually neglected in previous work, has been investigated. The inductance index as well as a completed calculation flowchart has been introduced, in order to offer a full picture of harmonic leakage and its impact on winding inductance. Five-phase and six-phase schemes with different slot/pole combinations have been investigated as examples for odd and even phase number machines, respectively. Furthermore, several prototype machines, including three-phase 12-slot/10-pole and six-phase 24-slot/22-pole single-layer and double-layer machines, were fabricated, and experimental verification has been conducted. Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effects of NF-kappaB on the expression of IL-8 in human bronchial epithelial cells induced by cigarette smoke condensates (CSC)., Methods: Both IL-8mNF-kappaB(-) BEAS-2B cells (BEAS-2B cells with mutated NF-kappaB binding site in IL-8 promoter) and IL-8 WT BEAS-2B cells (wild-type BEAS-2B cells with completed NF-kappaB binding site in IL-8 promoter) were treated by 7.5% CSC. The mRNA level of fLCF gene was detected by real-time PCR, and the activity of luciferase was measured by luciferase reporter gene activity detection kit., Results: After two kinds of BEAS-2B cells were treated by 7.5% CSC, the mRNA level of fLCF and the activity of luciferase in IL-8 WT BEAS-2B cells was higher than those in IL-8mNF-kappaB(-) BEAS-2B cells (P < 0.001), the mRNA level of fLCF in IL-8 WT BEAS-2B cells was 1.32 times as that in IL-8mNF-kappaB(-) BEAS-2B cells (P < 0.001)., Conclusion: The results suggested that NF-kappaB transcription factor was involved in smoking-induced respiratory inflammation through the precise molecular mechanisms of promoting the release of IL-8 in BEAS-2B cells treated by CSC.
