The limited understanding of the structure of the urban surface atmospheric boundary layer can be attributed to its inherent complexity, as well as a deficiency in comprehensive measurements. We analyzed one year of meteorological data and Doppler wind lidar measurements in Beijing to explore how atmospheric stability is influenced by wind speed, radiation, turbulence, and pollution levels. Results indicate that the predominant state of the urban boundary layers in Beijing is an active condition (characterized by strong unstable and unstable stability regimes) throughout the day, attributed to the significant heat storage capacity of the urban canopy. Strong stable regimes are more frequently observed during winter and autumn, peaking during transitions from night to day. Furthermore, both strong unstable and strong stable regimes occur under very weak wind conditions (indicating weak dynamic instability), with strong instability associated with high net radiation levels while strong stability correlates with low net radiation conditions (indicative of robust thermal stability). The unstable regime manifests under strong winds (reflecting strong dynamic instability) alongside moderate net radiation environments, characterized by elevated values of turbulence kinetic energy and urban boundary height, highlighting the critical role of mechanical turbulence generation during periods of high wind activity. Additionally, six instances of pronounced stable conditions observed during daytime can be partially attributed to low radiation coupled with high pollutant concentrations near the surface, resulting from prolonged temperature inversions due to intense radiative cooling effects and weak dynamic forcing. Aerosol particles play critical roles in climate and human health. However, aerosol composition and evolution, particularly secondary organic aerosol (SOA), and aerosol interactions with clouds in high-altitude background areas in China remain less understood. Here, we conducted real-time measurements of submicron aerosols (PM 1) using aerosol mass spectrometers at a forested mountain site (1128 m a.s.l.) in southeastern China in November 2022. The average (±1σ) PM 1 mass concentration was 4.3±4.8 µ g m -3 , which was ubiquitously lower than that at other mountain sites in China. Organic aerosol (OA) constituted the largest fraction of PM 1 (42.9 %) and was predominantly secondary, as indicated by the high oxygen-to-carbon (O / C) ratio (0.85–0.96) and carbon oxidation state (0.21–0.49). Notably, the remarkably enhanced PM 1 concentrations observed during the daytime on cloudless days were identified to be likely to be produced from cloud evaporation. While more oxidized oxygenated OA was scavenged efficiently during cloud events, cloud evaporation was found to release a significant amount of less oxidized oxygenated OA from air masses transported from polluted regions. The distinct decrease in OA / Δ CO with the increase in O / C during the cloud evaporative period further demonstrates that OA remaining in cloud droplets is generally in a moderate oxidation state. Moreover, organic nitrates were also estimated and showed a higher contribution to the total nitrate during the cloudy period (27 %) than during the evaporative period (3 %). In order to develop the target object mobile platform for vehicle Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system test, this article studied the configuration design, strength analysis, fatigue life estimation and path tracking of test scene. Through the analysis of the test scenarios stipulated in C-NCAP Management Regulation (2024 Edition), the moving path of the target was extracted, and the expected trajectory was obtained according to the boundary conditions, then the trajectory tracking results were obtained through dynamic simulation. The comparison shows that the simulation results are basically consistent with the specified requirements, indicating that the designed mobile platform can meet the needs of AEB testing. However, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of aerosol composition and evolution, particularly regarding secondary organic aerosols (SOA), and their interaction with clouds in high-altitude background areas in China. Here we conducted real-time measurements of submicron aerosols (PM1) using aerosol mass spectrometers at a forested mountain site (1128 m a.s.l.) in southeastern China in November 2022. Our results revealed that organic aerosol (OA) constituted a substantial portion of PM1 (41.1 %), with the OA being primarily of secondary origin, as evidenced by a high oxygen-to-carbon (O/C) ratio (0.85–0.96). Positive matrix factorization resolved two distinct SOA factors: less oxidized oxygenated OA (LO-OOA) and more oxidized OOA (MO-OOA). Interestingly, MO-OOA was scavenged efficiently during cloud events, while cloud evaporation contributed significantly to LO-OOA. The ratio of OA/ΔCO increased with a decrease in the O/C ratio, suggesting that OA remaining in cloud droplets generally maintained a moderate oxidation state. Furthermore, our results indicated a higher contribution of organic nitrates to total nitrate during cloudy periods (27 %) compared to evaporative periods (3 %). Notably, a substantial contribution of nitrate in PM1 (20.9 %) was observed, particularly during high PM periods, implying that nitrate formed in polluted areas interacted with clouds and significantly impacted the regional background site. Overall, our study underscores the importance of understanding the dynamics of secondary organic aerosols and the impacts of cloud processing in regional mountainous areas in southeastern China. The Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS) has recently been introduced to include a bottom-up approach to modeling carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and uptake in urban areas. In this study, SUEWS is evaluated against the measured eddy covariance (EC) turbulent fluxes of sensible heat (QH), latent heat (QE), and CO2 (FC) in a densely built neighborhood in Beijing. The model sensitivity to maximum conductance (gmax) and leaf area index (LAI) is examined. Site-specific gmax is obtained from observations over local vegetation species, and LAI parameters are extracted by optimization with remotely sensed LAI obtained from a Landsat 7 data product. For the simulation of anthropogenic CO2 components, local traffic and population data are collected. In the model evaluation, the mismatch between the measurement source area and simulation domain is also considered. Using the optimized gmax and LAI , the modeling of heat fluxes is noticeably improved, showing higher correlation with observations, lower bias, and more realistic seasonal dynamics of QE and QH. The effect of the gmax adjustment is more significant than the LAI adjustment. Compared to heat fluxes, the FC module shows lower sensitivity to the choices of gmax and LAI. This can be explained by the low relative contribution of vegetation to the net FC in the modeled area. SUEWS successfully reproduces the average diurnal cycle of FC and annual cumulative sums. Depending on the size of the simulation domain, the modeled annual accumulated FC ranges from 7.4 to 8.7 kgCm-2yr-1 , compared to 7.5 kgCm-2yr-1 observed by EC. Traffic is the dominant CO2 source, contributing 59 %–70 % to the annual total CO2 emissions, followed by human metabolism (14 %–18 %), buildings (11 %–14 %), and CO2 release by vegetation and soil respiration (6 %–10 %). Vegetation photosynthesis offsets only 5 %–10 % of the total CO2 emissions. We highlight the importance of choosing the optimal LAI parameters and gmax when SUEWS is used to model surface fluxes. The FC module of SUEWS is a promising tool in quantifying urban CO2 emissions at the local scale and therefore assisting in mitigating urban CO2 emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report a new type of structural defect in β-Ga2O3 homoepitaxial thin films grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy, which we have dubbed as "sympetalous defects." These consist of a line defect (for example, a nanotube defect) in the underlying substrate combined with a multi-faceted inverted polycrystalline pyramid in the epitaxial film, which may also be decorated with twinned polycrystalline grains. In plan-view atomic force, scanning electron, or optical microscopies, the sympetalous defects appear similar in shape to polygonal etch pits observed for single crystals. Photoluminescence microscopy exposed spots of polarization-dependent luminescence at these defects, different from the single crystal films' luminescence. Furthermore, some of the defects exhibited circular dichroism in their luminescence that we correlated with partial helices formed within the pits by the arrangement of linearly dichroic polycrystalline grains. Finally, the density of sympetalous defects agrees with the etch pit densities of the substrates. Understanding and controlling these defects will be of importance as they modify the local properties of films, affect fabricated device yields, and influence characterization experiments.
