To make teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) more effective, this study aimed to determine whether integrating moral disengagement (MD) minimization strategies into TPSR can enhance students’ positive behaviors and reduce their misbehaviors in PE. A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was conducted with an experimental group and two control groups. One hundred forty-five students from nine classes in three middle schools were assigned to experimental group (TPSR + MD minimization strategies; N = 50), control group A (TPSR; N = 46), and control group B (general PE instruction; N = 49) respectively. A pretest was performed in the first week, and a posttest was performed in the 18th week. The results showed that integrating MD minimization strategies into TPSR could significantly reduce students’ misbehaviors in PE classes. However, the effects of the strategy on students’ positive behaviors (e.g., following rules, helping others, and cooperation) showed no improvement. This study made a breakthrough by finding that integrating MD minimization strategies could make TPSR more effective at reducing students’ misbehaviors. By understanding the psychosocial mechanisms behind student behavior in PE, we suggest that MD minimization strategies could be applied in the TPSR model.

3. Marketing strategies of the female-only gym industry: A case-based industry perspective

Female customers are an important market for fitness centers. This study aims to examine successful fitness training health models used by female fitness clubs. A case study approach and the interview method were used to collect data (i.e., face-to-face interviews) regarding the marketing strategies of female fitness clubs. Purposive sampling was employed to select executives working at the headquarters of a female-only gym, and semi-structured interviews were conducted to provide a context for fitness behaviors and to discuss the business’ marketing mix. Six managers at Curves (four female and two male) across six different positions were interviewed. This study found that Curves’ most significant difference compared to other private fitness clubs is that it makes women feel comfortable. Through charitable activities combined with promotions, women feel as if the gym empathizes with them. This study is unique in that it is one of the first studies to explore the business model of the female fitness club. In particular, this research suggests that sports organizations should focus their services strategies on female exercise demands. The findings of this study will support the development of marketing strategies to promote the growth of women’s health as a priority within the fitness industry.

4. The Technology Acceptance Model and Older Adults’ Exercise Intentions—A Systematic Literature Review

Aging is a global phenomenon, and the use of exercise technology by older adults can help them to prevent disease, achieve good health, and ultimately achieve successful aging. In the past, there literature compilation studies have been conducted on sports technology and young people or on the use of technology by the older adults; however, no studies have determined the attitudes of older adults toward sports technology. This review applied a systematic literature analysis to determine the factors that correlate the technology acceptance model with the older population’s exercise attitudes. A total of 10 studies were identified as contributing to the use of exercise technology by older adults. The main findings of this review are that, of the 28 factors identified in the 10 studies, only 18 were identified as factors influencing older adults’ use of sports technology in the technology acceptance model (TAM). Among these, fifteen factors affected intention, four factors affected perceived ease of use, three factors affected perceived usefulness, and two factors affected attitudes. Finally, discussing the related factors affecting TAM allows us to provide suggestions for future research directions.

Professional sport is one of the essential core industries for the development of the sports industry, divided into two categories: team and individual sports. The main development feature of professional basketball is to compete through the home-and-away system’s operation and establish a good emotional foundation with the residents through the home operation, which in turn creates recognition and support for the team and enhances the profits of the basketball organization. In recent years, Southeast Asia has developed a multinational professional basketball league, which covers nine countries. The “Formosa Dreamers” professional basketball team, a joint venture of Chinese entrepreneurs and has become the first professional basketball team in Taiwan, has chosen Changhua County as the home court. This report’s objective was to explore the localization and home business strategies of professional basketball games and to summarize further and analyze the characteristics of the home business strategy of Formosa Dreamers to establish the foundation for the future development of home business sports events in Taiwan.

6. Perceived teachers’ autonomy support, positive behaviour, and misbehaviour in physical education: The roles of advantageous comparison and non-responsibility

To better investigate why positive behaviour and misbehaviour occur, the study aimed to examine the relationships among teachers’ autonomy support and students’ advantageous comparison, non-responsibility, positive behaviour, and misbehaviour. We also examined the mediating roles of advantageous comparison and non-responsibility in these relations. The participants were 478 students with an average age of 14.6 ± 1.49 years, and the students included 259 males and 219 females. Structural equation modelling indicated that teachers’ autonomy support had direct negative effects on advantageous comparison and non-responsibility. Furthermore, advantageous comparison and non-responsibility had direct positive effects on students’ misbehaviour and had direct negative effects on positive behaviour. The relationships between teachers’ autonomy support and students’ misbehaviour and positive behaviour were mediated by advantageous comparison and non-responsibility. In line with previous work, teacher autonomy support might be critical to enhancing students’ positive behaviour as well as reducing their misbehaviour. Since the mediating roles of advantageous comparison and non-responsibility were confirmed, we also suggest that strategies should be applied to eliminate students’ moral disengagement.

Research has suggested that coaches who possess a proactive personality have greater job performance. However, contextual factors that may serve as behaviors conditions have received insufficient attention in the research. Accordingly, this study proposed organizational citizenship behavior as a mediation in the positive relationship between proactive personality and job satisfaction. We have 91 paired, completed questionnaires which formed the basis of the data analysis. Our results suggest that significant correlation between proactive personality, job performance, and OCB. Additionally, OCB mediated between proactive personality and job performance. Our findings provide strong evidence that a high degree of proactive personality among sports coaches has a significant and crucial influence on their OCB and job performance.

The authors attempt to explain why the generally accepted models built on consumer socialization theory do not sufficiently capture supporting consumer socialization behavior. According to marketing literature, social interaction may influence consumer behavior. The purpose of this study is to understand the behavior of consumers engaged in marathon running. The authors use three types of consumer socialization constructed factors (intergenerational influences, peer influences, and traditional media) and examine their effects on event conformity. A total of 299 marathon runners who were runners in one or more marathon running responded to the survey. The findings highlight social interaction as an influence on the consumer behavior of those engaged in marathon running. Meanwhile, our support conformity moderated the relationship between the intergenerationally influenced and marathon running behavior in marathon events. The authors emphasize the importance of reflecting on different relationships (consumer-related skills, knowledge, and attitudes) in understanding supporting consumer socialization behavior.

The goal was better understanding of the motivational factors of volunteers in non-profit sport organizations. The roles of two factors provided by supervisors to their subordinates were examined: autonomy support, i.e., the encouragement of self-initiation and emphasis on choice rather than control, and structure, i.e., the introduction of order, definite procedures, and rules. 489 sport volunteers (289 men, 200 women; M age = 31.2 yr., SD = 7.4) were administered questionnaires assessing their perceived autonomy support, structure, and motivation. Regression analysis indicated that perceived autonomy support predicted motivation. Structure also mediated the effect of perceived autonomy support on motivation. Supervisors of sport organizations should provide adequate structure for their volunteers.
