Social entrepreneurship has gained increasing attention as a means to address social problems, including poverty, in Nigeria. Poverty is a major challenge in Nigeria, with a poverty rate of over 40%. Poverty alleviation is critical to achieving sustainable development in the country. Social entrepreneurship can play a key role in addressing poverty by creating jobs, providing access to goods and services, and promoting economic growth. Hence, this study examines bolstering the impact of social entrepreneurship and poverty alleviation for sustainable development in Nigeria. The research focuses primarily on fostering economic, social, and environmental improvements, as well as improving people’s lives. Three hypotheses were formulated to help accomplish the primary objectives of the study. The Opportunity-Based Entrepreneurship Theory, Social Network Theory, and Schumpeterian Theory of Innovation were used to explain the objective of the study. In this study, a purposive sampling technique was used, and 300 copies of structured questionnaires were administered to selected social entrepreneurs of which 262 copies were retrieved and used for the analysis. The data were analyzed using structural and measurement models, and the path coefficient was determined using PLS-SEM. The significance level was calculated using the bootstrapping method. The results from the test of hypotheses showed that; the most significant predictor of poverty alleviation is social innovation (β = 0.376, p < 0.05), followed by the social value (β = 0.314, p < 0.05), and finally, social impact (β = 0.231, p < 0.05). This study concludes that social innovation is fundamental for empowering individuals and communities to lift themselves out of poverty and achieve long-term prosperity. The study recommends that to promote sustainable social entrepreneurship and poverty alleviation in Nigeria, the government can create policies and programs that support social innovation, such as providing access to funding, business training, and mentorship. The government can also collaborate with entrepreneurs and organizations to promote their initiatives and create a supportive ecosystem for social entrepreneurship.

PurposeMillennials’ perception of work, personal and family life is different from other generations. Building on studies on workforce generations, this paper aims to uncover not only the effect of work-to-family conflict (WFC) and family satisfaction (FS) on millennial managers engagement but also the moderating effect of (gender and marital status) in predicting engagement.Design/methodology/approachThis paper used a survey to collect data from managers of selected companies in Nigeria. In total, 127 questionnaires were analysed using the partial least square structural equation modelling method.FindingsResults reveal that the relationship between WFC, FS and millennial managers’ engagement is direct and significant. Besides, the effect of WFC on engagement is stronger in men and for married. The effect of FS on engagement is greater for women than men and for married.Practical implicationsThis study informs the research community as well as practitioners and affirms the importance of supportive work-to-family life and FS in fostering millennial managers’ engagement with their organisations.Originality/valueThis study is among the initial attempts to evaluate the impact of WFC and FS on engagement among millennial managers, especially in Africa, Nigeria in particular. The results identify millennial managers’ unique perspectives towards engagement and how gender and marital status may enhance engagement. With millennials fast attaining leadership roles, such knowledge is important.

Prescriptive learning is gradually gaining the attention of various industries in Nigeria, particularly on the issues and concerns surrounding sustainability. The existing literature shows that Nigerian pharmaceutical firms have not provided adequately researched prescriptive learning opportunities and sustainable employee engagement. Thus, this study explores the influence of prescriptive learning and sustainable employee engagement in selected pharmaceutical firms in Nigeria. Five hundred and forty-one (541) respondents were surveyed across all the selected pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria using a stratified and purposive sampling technique. Only four hundred and thirty-four (434) copies of the questionnaire, which represents an 80.2% rate of response. were analysed with Smart PLS 3.0. The results show that competitive differentiation, reflection, research and idea testing significantly influenced employee (cognitive, behavioral and affective) engagements. The study concludes that the adoption of prescriptive learning motivates sustainable employee engagement because employees become emotionally invested in work roles and functions. This study contributes to the strategic learning and development of human resource management practices, especially in the Pharmaceutical industry.

This study examined the effect of normative learning on employee cognitive engagement. Survey research design was adopted to assess the subject matter. Five hundred and forty-one hundred (541) respondents were surveyed across all the selected pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria with the usage of purposive and stratified sampling technique. Only four hundred and thirty-four (434) copies of questionnaire representing (80.2%) response rate was correctly filled, returned and analysed for this study. Structural Equation Model (AMOS 23) was adopted for the analysis of the effect of normative learning on employee cognitive engagement and efficacy of employee engagement to work and job task. The results from the test of hypotheses showed that normative learning significantly influence employee cognitive engagement (R2= 0.840 p-value = 0.000). The study recommends that management of the selected firms should develop functional systems that ensure transfer of best practices among various areas of work and encourage individual members in teams to have clear understanding of the problem to be addressed. The insights from this study would be of great value to the management of pharmaceutical industry, and other stakeholders to develop and invest in normative learning that will enhance job commitment and engagement of employees

Being Igbo is synonymous with being enterprising. This is perhaps the most popular impression that many people have about the Igbo of south-eastern Nigeria. Historical antecedents indicate that prior to colonisation, the Igbo engaged actively in trade and agriculture. However, the events of the Nigeria Civil War (1967–1970) had an indelible impact on the economic activities and achievements of the Igbo. Since then, this ethnic nation has risen from economic ashes, and evidence abound in different commercial spaces across the globe. A critical driver of this economic renaissance is the Igba-Boi/Imu Ahia traditional business apprenticeship model. Founded on the Igbo philosophies of communality, co-prosperity and interdependence, the model is characterised by the transgenerational transfer of entrepreneurial skills and the reproduction of business champions. In this chapter, we assess the centrality of enterprise in the Igbo culture; appraise entrepreneurial activities of the Igbo during the pre-colonial and colonial periods; discuss the consequences of the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), as well as the post-civil war economic revival. Specifically, we analyse the processes, opportunities and challenges of the Igbo traditional business apprenticeship. Broad-based recommendations highlight imperatives for sustainability and leveraging across cultures and contexts.

To remain competitive within the present inherent business environment, there is a demand for organisations to embrace an integrated culture-behaviour for performance that enables them to adopt a critical engine for a more sustainable working environment. Organisational culture, which is a reflection of predominant valued beliefs, is expected to influence a sustainable environmental performance. Evidence abounds of several organisational activities with adverse impacts on humans and the environment. The study examines an organisation&rsquo, s processes that can be incorporated as a culture to ensure a more sustainable working environment. This paper proposes the use of six organisational culture practices (core value, reporting system, task performance, clarity of roles, careful deliberations, and distinctive identity) to find out organisation values, as well as individual preferences in enhancing an immediate sustainable environment. The study selected 480 employees of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) firms who are active in their organisational work processes, 358 responded, and as such, was deemed as a valid research sample. The empirical analysis was carried out using a variance-based Structural Equation Modelling with partial least squares for the path-modelling (PLS-SEM), both for the Algorithm Model, and the Bootstrapping Model with &beta, and p-values obtained from the findings. The findings provide empirical evidence that there is a significant level of influence of organisational culture on environmental performance. However, among the organisational practices, task performance has the least influence on environmental performance. This implies that organisations should invest more in the dimensions of organisational culture with higher performance-importance, while adequate attention should be given to variables with the least influence on the target construct of environmental performance.

Empirical evidence on the role of individuals' and group tacit and explicit knowledge in driving performance, is clearly missing in organisational knowledge literature. To fill this gap, a survey of 504 Managerial, technical and administrative employees of organisations in the Nigerian telecommunications industry form the sample for this study. Based on the multiple regression analysis, the relationship between organisational knowledge and performance was established. The results indicate that managers should focus on group-tacit knowledge, individual-explicit knowledge and individual-tacit knowledge as the most strategic types of organisational knowledge for enhancing performance.

Entrepreneurs are individuals who have a constant feeling of desperation that is from time to time seen in organizations. While the number of entrepreneurship education programmes are increasing, their impact is under-researched and studies paint an unclear picture of the impact of entrepreneurship education. This present study presents data on the extent to which university entrepreneurship education programmes stimulate the entrepreneurial performance of aspiring entrepreneurs in Nigeria. Data was collected using a descriptive cross-sectional quantitative survey conducted among university students (N = 540) of selected institutions in Nigeria. Regression Analysis was used in confirming the hypotheses proposed in the study using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. University entrepreneurship education is confirmed to be a major source of inspirational triggers that positively impact on entrepreneurial performance of aspiring entrepreneurs in the selected universities in Nigeria. Banking institutions play a critical role in any economy, and their stability is crucial to the economic development of a nation. The wave of corporate scandals that rocked the industry left the public with a loss of confidence. Efforts have since been channeled by banks towards developing their corporate governance mechanisms, except that the aspect of ethical leadership and how it translates to a bank׳s corporate reputation has not received sufficient attention. The dataset presented the perception of employees in selected deposit money banks in Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique was used to elicit data from the employees. Inferential statistics such as correlation, and regression analysis were adopted. The data collected focused on the impact of ethical leadership on corporate reputation. It also provided information on the significant factors affecting ethical leadership as well as the measures of corporate reputation. The survey data when analysed can be a pointer in determining the unique ethical leadership predictors that could enhance a bank׳s reputation. This study presents a data-set on the influence of managerial incentives on bank performance in selected Deposit Money Banks (DMB) in Nigeria. The use of managerial incentives to align interests of the principal and agent is advocated by agency theorists, but the peculiarity of the banking industry in terms of the role of regulation, capital structure, opacity and complexity of its transactions among others presents a different proposition in corporate governance research. The data collected over a longitudinal period between 2006 and 2016, provide information on specific managerial incentives and financial performance measures. Descriptive and inferential statistics such as correlation, and panel regression analysis estimates are presented. When analysed, the data can be a pointer in determining the unique managerial incentives predictors that could enhance a bank׳s performance. Traditional methods of teaching entrepreneurship in universities involves more theoretical approaches which are less effective in motivating considerations for an entrepreneurship career. This owes to the fact that such techniques essentially make students develop a dormant attitude rather than active participation. Expert views suggest that experiential entrepreneurship teaching methods in universities which involve practical activities and active participation can be considered salient to students’ development of entrepreneurial interest an business startup potentials. This present study presents data on the extent to which experiential teaching methods in entrepreneurship adopted by Nigerian universities stimulate students’ entrepreneurial interest and business startups. Data have been gathered following a descriptive cross-sectional quantitative survey conducted among university students (N = 600) of four selected institutions in Nigeria offering a degree programme in entrepreneurship. Hierarchical Multiple Regression Analysis was used in confirming the hypothesis proposed in the study using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.The findings from the analysis showed that the adoption of experiential practical activities considered as best practices in entrepreneurship teaching in Nigerian universities can stimulate students’ interest and drive for engaging in business start-up activities even as undergraduates. The field data set is made extensively available to allow for critical investigation. Employees’ development involves ensuring that employees are compensated fairly, are not exposed to dangerous or environmentally unhealthy working environment and are treated ethically in the workplace, especially in a technology intense industry as that of the oil and gas sector. Thus, this article presents data on the effect of employees’ development on employees’ satisfaction. The study employed a descriptive quantitative research design engaging survey method. The study population consists of 1748 employees from four top oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. A sample size of 350 employees was selected. Data was analysed using statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Regression analysis was employed as the statistical tool of analysis. Oil and gas firms in Nigeria are generally perceived to be weak in their environmental and ecological initiatives towards their host communities. Yet there has been a dearth of empirical emphasis from research that shows evidences about the role of ecological protection on the corporate image of oil and gas firms. Therefore, this study focused on examining the influence of a commitment to ecological protection on the corporate image of oil and gas firms in Nigeria. The study adopted the mixed methods approach where quantitative and qualitative methods (survey and interview) were used. For the quantitative research, copies of structured questionnaire were distributed to 350 employees of the selected firms, while 30 respondents from other stakeholder groups were interviewed for the qualitative research. Based on the results of the regression and thematic analyses, findings show that the firms’ commitment to ecological protection through their policy to avoid the use of materials from the illegal exploitation of natural resources, commitment to waste minimisation and recycling and pollution leads to increased investors’ confidence, strengthened relationship with the government, host community and reduced pressure from third parties. Therefore, it is recommended that oil and gas firms intensify efforts in activities that ensure ecological protection of host communities and thus build stakeholders confidence in the firms’ corporate image.

The study examines a comprehensive organisational diagnostic model, which can be used to diagnose for the root cause of failure within the processes, also to check for the state of health of an organisation. The Weisbord six-box organisational diagnostic model is consist of; purpose, structure, leadership, relationships, rewards, helpful mechanisms, attitude toward change. The model is applied by checking these key areas of operating within the organisation for problem-solving, towards a sustainable organisational performance. This paper provides a framework that managers can incorporate when performing a routine check, also a comprehensive model that can integrated for a sustainable performance.

Several sources of today׳s pressure on managers in strategic decision-making are directly associated with social issues rather than traditional strategic management issues. It is believed that firms that invest in community development are more likely to operate in harmony in the society of their operations, as such reduce interference from their host community, thus leading to enhanced corporate image. Therefore, it becomes pertinent to present data to show the existence or otherwise of a relationship between community development initiatives and the firm׳s corporate image. This data is gotten from 336 respondents from four top oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian stock exchange. Responses wee gathered from the employees’ of the firms, as it is believed they have first hand information on the firm׳s corporate social responsibility policies. The data is purely descriptive and was gotten through quantitative methods, specifically through a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire had two sections; section A contained background questions, while section B consisted of questions that were specific to community development initiatives and corporate image. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency of the questionnaire revealed a reliability coefficient of 0.732, thus revealing a high consistency level. The field data set is made widely accessible to enable critical investigation into the subject. This article surveys the various mechanisms of suppressing the killing heat in the electrical performance when a high solar irradiance strikes the surface of the solar panel. In addressing this killing heat, suitable technologies of cooling (active and passive) must be adopted to checkmate the abrupt temperature increase in the solar panel. The theoretical and experimental results of previous studies were critically reviewed. The study suggests that the efficiency of solar panel can be improved beyond 45 % provided a suitable cooling technology can be adopted during the design and installation.

The study adopted a conceptual method of research to explore the challenges facing women entrepreneurs in developing nations. The study featured an introduction, and literature review which involved a conceptual and theoretical framework. This was followed by a discussion of the challenges of women entrepreneurs as reviewed from extant literature.
