In a 3GPP-based system such as 4G-LTE and 5G-NR, a UE transmits a PRACH (Preamble Random Access Channel) signal in the initial connection with a base station. As a result, the interference canceling repeater suddenly receives a high-power narrow-band signal continuously in a no user signal state, so that the interference cancellation algorithm may malfunction and the system is likely to cause oscillation. In this paper, we propose an adaptive algorithm that can maintain the interference cancellation function without oscillation even for narrow band input with an abrupt change of the spectrum and power.

In this paper, modeling of the third-order passive intermodulation distortion (PIMD) caused by the downlink signal in the frequency division duplex (FDD) wireless communication system is developed with the Focused Time Delay Neural Network (FTDNN). PIMD is an interference signal generated due to the nonlinearity of a passive element in a wireless communication environment, and degrades the noise level of a receiver, resulting in a deterioration of communication quality. Offline learning and testing of the proposed approach are investigated with measured PIMD signals and transmitted downlink signals. As a result, it is confirmed that FTDNN structure is suitable for learning nonlinearity of the PIMD generation process.

We present an implementation of the $\mathcal{F}$-statistic to carry out the first search in data from the Virgo laser interferometric gravitational wave detector for periodic gravitational waves from a priori unknown, isolated rotating neutron stars. We searched a frequency $f_0$ range from 100 Hz to 1 kHz and the frequency dependent spindown $f_1$ range from $-1.6\,(f_0/100\,{\rm Hz}) \times 10^{-9}\,$ Hz/s to zero. A large part of this frequency - spindown space was unexplored by any of the all-sky searches published so far. Our method consisted of a coherent search over two-day periods using the $\mathcal{F}$-statistic, followed by a search for coincidences among the candidates from the two-day segments. We have introduced a number of novel techniques and algorithms that allow the use of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm in the coherent part of the search resulting in a fifty-fold speed-up in computation of the $\mathcal{F}$-statistic with respect to the algorithm used in the other pipelines. No significant gravitational wave signal was found. The sensitivity of the search was estimated by injecting signals into the data. In the most sensitive parts of the detector band more than 90% of signals would have been detected with dimensionless gravitational-wave amplitude greater than $5 \times 10^{-24}$., 27 pages, 10 figures, submitted to CQG, corrected affiliations and autors list; Science summary of results available at http://www.ligo.org/science/Publication-VSR1CWAllSkyFstat/index.php

The theoretical limit of the noise correlation between the signal and idler outputs of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) with a coherent state signal and vacuum state idler input can be enhanced if a non-vacuum coherent state idler input is employed. By choosing a balanced signal and idler input, the noise correlation is $1/{({\root}g + {\root}{g-1})}^2$ , where g is the intensity gain of the NOPA, and that is superior to the prediced outputs with single signal input by approximately 3dB. The result is applicable to all the schemes that use the NOPA to produce a sub-shot noise light generation such as feed-back or feed-forward control.

We have investigated the phase-sensitive deamplification response of a traveling-wave degenerate optical parametric amplifier that consists of a type II phase-matched KTP crystal pumped by the second harmonic of a Q-switched mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. Experimental results are in good agreement with the theory of an optical parametric amplifier in which the Gaussian-beam nature of the various fields along with the diffraction of the amplified signal beam is taken into account. Because of the phenomenon of gain-induced diffraction, maximum deamplification is limited to only ≃3 dB.

We analyze an optical-phase feed-forward scheme to produce a squeezed-light beam from intensity-correlated twin beams generated by nondegenerate parametric amplification. The quadrature measurement of the idler beam at the output of the parametric amplifier is linearly fed forward onto the output signal beam with an electro-optic phase modulator. The minimum available squeezing factor is shown to be 1/(2g − 1), where g is the parametric amplifier gain, and is equal to the nonclassical intensity-noise reduction factor of the original twin beams at the output of the parametric amplifier. By changing the frequency of the input signal beam, one can generate tunable squeezed light with this scheme for application in precision spectroscopy.

A search for periodic gravitational waves, from sources such as isolated rapidly-spinning neutron stars, was carried out using 510 hours of data from the fourth LIGO science run (S4). The search was for quasi-monochromatic waves in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 1500 Hz, with a linear frequency drift f-dot (measured at the solar system barycenter) in the range -f/tau < f-dot < 0.1 f/tau, where the minimum spin-down age tau was 1000 years for signals below 300 Hz and 10000 years above 300 Hz. The main computational work of the search was distributed over approximately 100000 computers volunteered by the general public. This large computing power allowed the use of a relatively long coherent integration time of 30 hours, despite the large parameter space searched. No statistically significant signals were found. The sensitivity of the search is estimated, along with the fraction of parameter space that was vetoed because of contamination by instrumental artifacts. In the 100 Hz to 200 Hz band, more than 90% of sources with dimensionless gravitational wave strain amplitude greater than 1e-23 would have been detected., 29 pages, 19 figures

We present the results of a LIGO search for short-duration gravitational waves (GWs) associated with Soft Gamma Repeater (SGR) bursts. This is the first search sensitive to neutron star f-modes, usually considered the most efficient GW emitting modes. We find no evidence of GWs associated with any SGR burst in a sample consisting of the 27 Dec. 2004 giant flare from SGR 1806-20 and 190 lesser events from SGR 1806-20 and SGR 1900+14 which occurred during the first year of LIGO's fifth science run. GW strain upper limits and model-dependent GW emission energy upper limits are estimated for individual bursts using a variety of simulated waveforms. The unprecedented sensitivity of the detectors allows us to set the most stringent limits on transient GW amplitudes published to date. We find upper limit estimates on the model-dependent isotropic GW emission energies (at a nominal distance of 10 kpc) between 3x10^45 and 9x10^52 erg depending on waveform type, detector antenna factors and noise characteristics at the time of the burst. These upper limits are within the theoretically predicted range of some SGR models., Comment: 6 pages, 1 Postscript figure

We report on an all-sky search with the LIGO detectors for periodic gravitational waves in the frequency range 50-1000 Hz and with the frequency's time derivative in the range -1.0E-8 Hz/s to zero. Data from the fourth LIGO science run (S4) have been used in this search. Three different semi-coherent methods of transforming and summing strain power from Short Fourier Transforms (SFTs) of the calibrated data have been used. The first, known as "StackSlide", averages normalized power from each SFT. A "weighted Hough" scheme is also developed and used, and which also allows for a multi-interferometer search. The third method, known as "PowerFlux", is a variant of the StackSlide method in which the power is weighted before summing. In both the weighted Hough and PowerFlux methods, the weights are chosen according to the noise and detector antenna-pattern to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio. The respective advantages and disadvantages of these methods are discussed. Observing no evidence of periodic gravitational radiation, we report upper limits; we interpret these as limits on this radiation from isolated rotating neutron stars. The best population-based upper limit with 95% confidence on the gravitational-wave strain amplitude, found for simulated sources distributed isotropically across the sky and with isotropically distributed spin-axes, is 4.28E-24 (near 140 Hz). Strict upper limits are also obtained for small patches on the sky for best-case and worst-case inclinations of the spin axes., Comment: 39 pages, 41 figures An error was found in the computation of the C parameter defined in equation 44 which led to its overestimate by 2^(1/4). The correct values for the multi-interferometer, H1 and L1 analyses are 9.2, 9.7, and 9.3, respectively. Figure 32 has been updated accordingly. None of the upper limits presented in the paper were affected

The LIGO interferometers are operating as gravitational wave observatories, with a noise level near an order of magnitude of the goal and the first scientific data recently taken. This data has been analyzed for four different categories of gravitational wave sources; millisecond bursts, inspiralling binary neutron stars, periodic waves from a known pulsar, and stochastic background. Research and development is also underway for the next generation LIGO detector, Advanced LIGO.

We present the implementation results of a digital IF software defined radio module, which can directly down-convert multiple channel IS-95 CDMA IF signals to the baseband and up-convert the multiple baseband signals to IF signals. Based on the polyphase filter bank techniques, the implemented module can selectively analyze specific channel signals from the multiple channel IF signals, and synthesize the analyzed baseband signals to the specific IF frequencies. The module, implemented by FPGA's at first, has been fabricated in ASIC and deployed in commercial digital fiber optic PCS repeaters.

A processing error in the signal template used in this search led to upper limits about 30% lower than we now know is warranted by the early S5 data. We have re-analyzed that data and find new upper limits on the strain parameter h 0 of 4.9 × 10–25/3.9 × 10–25 for uniform/restricted prior assumptions concerning the Crab inclination and polarization angles. These results have now been superseded by upper limits of 2.6 × 10–25/2.0 × 10–25 based on the full S5 data and presented in Abbott et al. (2009). The multitemplate search was not affected by the error. This is an Erratum for the article in Astrophysical Journal, 683 L45 2008

Recent experiments that have demonstrated the generation of quadrature-squeezed light in the traveling-wave configuration of an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) indicate that the observable squeezing is largely limited by the effects of diffraction in the parametric process1 and by the spatio-temporal mismatch between the generated squeezed mode and the local-oscillator (LO) mode employed in homodyne detection of squeezing.2

In this study, we apply the canonical piecewise-linear (PWL) model to the modeling of super-resolution near-field structure (super-RENS) read-out signals because reliable and accurate channel modeling is essential for performance analysis and development of equalizers for super-RENS disc systems. To mitigate the nonlinear inter symbol interference (ISI), furthermore, we propose a canonical PWL model-based equalizer (PWLEQ) for super-RENS discs. The validity of the model and the equalizer is tested using radio frequency (RF) signal samples obtained from a super-RENS disc. The modeling experiment results verified that the canonical PWL model can be efficiently utilized for the nonlinear modeling of super-RENS systems. The raw bit error rate (BER) performance with the proposed equalizer is measured for various delays and step sizes of the canonical PWL model. We observe a marked improvement in raw BER when using the proposed equlaizer.

We analyze an intensity feedforward scheme to produce a sub-Poissonian (amplitude-squeezed) light beam from the intensity-correlated twin beams generated by a nondegenerate parametric amplifier. Photon-number measurement of the idler beam at the output of the parametric amplifier is linearly fed forward onto the output signal beam using an amplitude modulator. The minimum available Fano factor is shown to be 1/(2g-1), where g is the parametric amplifier gain, and is equal to the nonclassical intensity-noise-reduction factor of the twin beams at the output of the parametric amplifier. By changing the frequency of the input-signal beam, tunable sub-Poissonian light can be generated with this scheme for application in precision absorption spectroscopy.

- Abstract
Twin beams generated from a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) of gaing possess1 an intensity correlation that falls below the quantum limit by (2g – 1). This occurs whenever the input idler to the NOPA is in the vacuum state. Such input is practically advantageous because it makes the NOPA output intensities phase insensitive. When a non-vacuum idler input state is chosen, the NOPA output intensities become phase sensitive. For a proper input state and a suitable pump phase the output intensity correlation falls below the quantum limit by ( g + g − 1 ) 2 , which is 3 dB superior to the vacuum-idler-input result for g >> 1 and is equivalent to the quantum-noise reduction obtainable from a squeezed state generated with the same gain. Thus the sensitivity improvement achievable with NOPA twin beams by using direct detection is equivalent to that obtainable with squeezed states by using homodyne detection. The above equivalence also provides a new scheme for the generation of pulsed squeezed light that, in addition to being simple, automatically generates a matched local oscillator2 for homodyne detection of the squeezed pulses.

We experimentally investigate the gain response of a frequency-degenerate but polarization-nondegenerate traveling-wave optical parametric amplifier that consists of a type II phase-matched potassium titanyl phosphate crystal pumped by a frequency-doubled Q-switched mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. Both the optical phase-sensitive and phase-insensitive configurations of the parametric amplifier are studied. Experimental results are in excellent agreement with the theory of an optical parametric amplifier when the Gaussian-beam nature of the various fields is taken into account. In the phase-sensitive configuration a gain of >100 (20 dB) could be easily obtained in the amplified quadrature, which is limited only by the available pump power. Because of gain-induced diffraction and phase fluctuations, however, maximum deamplification in the orthogonal quadrature is limited to

A local oscillator (LO) which can correctly decode the spatiotemporally distorted quadrature-squeezed light generated by means of single-pass traveling-wave optical parametric amplification is experimentally demonstrated. Such a matched LO is automatically produced in our squeezed-light generation scheme. With the matched LO 5.8 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.2 dB [(74 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 1)%] of quadrature squeezing is observed which, to the best of the authors' knowledge, is the highest observed in any traveling-wave squeezing experiment to date.

Recently we analyzed an optical-phase feed-forward scheme to produce a squeezed-light beam from the twin beams generated by nondegenerate optical parametric amplification.1 Our interest in this scheme stems from the possibility it allows for the generation of tunable squeezed light. If the input signal beam to the parametric amplifier is tunable, a tunable squeezed output beam can be obtained for spectroscopic applications.2 In this paper we present a wideband model of this scheme. Noise characteristics of the homodyne detector, that measures squeezing properties of the phase-controlled output signal beam from the parametric amplifier, are analyzed in detail. To minimize the squeezed-noise power at an arbitrarily given sideband frequency, the optimal phase feed-forward transfer function is calculated. This feed-forward transfer function is achievable with a bandpass filter and an electronic amplifier. For certain frequency profiles of the gain and phase of the parametric amplifier, the squeezed-noise power spectral density can be minimized over the whole electronic bandwidth of the photodetector that is employed in homodyne detection.

LIGO Scientific Collaboration, Virgo Collaboration; In gravitational-wave detection, special emphasis is put onto searches that focus on cosmic events detected by other types of astrophysical observatories. The astrophysical triggers, e.g. from gamma-ray and X-ray satellites, optical telescopes and neutrino observatories, provide a trigger time for analyzing gravitational wave data coincident with the event. In certain cases the expected frequency range, source energetics, directional and progenitor information is also available. Beyond allowing the recognition of gravitational waveforms with amplitudes closer to the noise floor of the detector, these triggered searches should also lead to rich science results even before the onset of Advanced LIGO. In this paper we provide a broad review of LIGO's astrophysically triggered searches and the sources they target.
