5. Low-coherence digital holographic microscope with Fizeau interferometer

Abstract

We present a new digital holographic microscope (DHM) with a low coherent source for the quantitative imaging of smooth and optically rough objects. The experimental design of the microscope uses an in-line experimental geometry based on the Fizeau interferometer and shows the depth sectioning capability due to the limited longitudinal coherence of the source. A polarization-phase shifting approach is implemented to extract the quantitative and speckle-free image from the experimentally recorded interference fringes. To test and experimentally demonstrate the working of the proposed DHM, we present the results of the quantitative images for different objects.

12. Neuromodulators in food ingredients: insights from network pharmacological evaluation of Ayurvedic herbs

Abstract

The global burden of neurological diseases, the second leading cause of death after heart dis-eases constitutes one of the major challenges of modern medicine. Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal systemenrooted in the Vedic literature and considered as a schema for the holistic management of health, characterizes various neurological diseases disorders (NDDs) and prescribes several herbs, formulations, and bio-cleansing regimes for their care and cure. In this work, we examined neuro-phytoregulatory potential of 34,472 phytochemicals among 3,038 herbs (including their varieties) mentioned in Ayurveda using network pharmacology approach and found that 45% of these Ayurvedic phytochemicals (APCs) have regulatory associations with 1,643 approved protein targets. Metabolite interconversion enzymes and protein modifying enzymes were found to be the major target classes of APCs against NDDs. The study further suggests that the actions of Ayurvedic herbs in managing NDDs were majorly via regulating signalling processes, like, G-protein signaling, acetylcholine signaling, chemokine signaling pathway and GnRH signaling. A high confidence network specific to 219 pharmaceutically relevant neuro-phytoregulators (NPRs) from 1,197 Ayurvedic herbs against 102 approved protein-targets involved in NDDs was developed and analyzed for gaining mechanistic insights. The key protein targets of NPRs to elicit their neuro-regulatory effect were highlighted as CYP and TRPA, while estradiol and melatonin were identified as the NPRs with high multi-targeting ability. 32 herbs enriched in NPRs were identified that include some of the well-known Ayurvedic neurological recommendations, like, Papaver somniferum, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Citrus aurantium, Cannabis sativa etc. Herbs enriched in NPRs may be used as a chemical source library for drug-discovery against NDDs from systems medicine perspectives., Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

Background: Community engagement is considered as one of the pillars in successful implementation program for prevention and control of Non- Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Objective: To gather evidence from the available literature concerning effective strategies for enhancing community engagement in primary healthcare for NCD prevention, which are appropriate for resource constraint settings in low- and middle-income countries. Methodology: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA- ScR) guidelines. Original articles and reports published from January 2000 to September 2023, in English language; with the following designs- Randomized controlled trials with single or multiple arms, quasi- experimental studies, public health practices and qualitative studies, available online were included in this review. Digital databases like PubMed and Google scholar were searched to find out articles, using a pre-designed peer- reviewed search strategy by combining established search terms and free text terms. Further, hand search was made by going through the references of the retrieved articles. All publications were independently evaluated by two reviewers. Information extracted from the published articles were recorded using a pre-designed data extraction sheet in Microsoft excel. Results: Key interventions emerged from the review included group-based peer support program; family level intervention; setting based approach (Health Promoting school /institution /market /hospital); advocacy, network and counselling among People Living with NCDs etc. Evidence also suggested use of appropriate technology such as CPHC-NCD Software, generation of Ayushman Bharat-Health Account IDs (ABHA IDs) through National NCD Portal, maintenance of NCD data record and register in digital formats on National NCD Portal and spreading community dialog using mass media, digital media and social media. Conclusion: The findings of this study will guide the development and implementation of evidence-based interventions for prevention of NCDs using primary healthcare platform suitable for resource limited settings.

Abstract

Understanding the meaning of text often involves reasoning about entities and their relationships. This requires identifying textual mentions of entities, linking them to a canonical concept, and discerning their relationships. These tasks are nearly always viewed as separate components within a pipeline, each requiring a distinct model and training data. While relation extraction can often be trained with readily available weak or distant supervision, entity linkers typically require expensive mention-level supervision -- which is not available in many domains. Instead, we propose a model which is trained to simultaneously produce entity linking and relation decisions while requiring no mention-level annotations. This approach avoids cascading errors that arise from pipelined methods and more accurately predicts entity relationships from text. We show that our model outperforms a state-of-the art entity linking and relation extraction pipeline on two biomedical datasets and can drastically improve the overall recall of the system., Comment: Accepted in AAAI 2020
