The paper presents the Digital Scholarly Edition of Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose characterized since its conception by the dialogue between Digital Philology and Computational Literary Criticism in a interdisciplinary perspective called 'IDEA' paradigm (Interpretation, Didactics, Edition, Annotation). By bringing together Authorial Philology, Digital Annotation and Literature Didactics, the IDEA paradigm aims to overcome the objective limitations of publishing contemporary literature content on the Web in open format. The contribution then describes the portal «The Variants of the Rose», a virtual place where to present the critical apparatus of variants encoded in XML-TEI (and visualized through EVT2), some didactic content elaborated with TRAViz, Storymap JS and Timeline JS, the annotation in a Domain Specific Language developed on Euporia and further critical insights elaborated from Franco Moretti's Distant reading and Giuseppe Savoca's Literary Lexicography. Subsequently, a reflection on the modelling of edition, the concept of Extended Edition and the project workflow is presented. Finally, a road map of future content is proposed with a view to the increasing integration of scientific research and the Public Humanities.

The review analyzes some of the most relevant aspects of Mancinelli and Pierazzo’s book published by Carocci. Starting from a brief discussion of the objectives of the text, we will outline the most relevant aspects: the attention to the historical context, the didactic vocation, and the theoretical and methodological propensity. Another important aspect is the large space dedicated to the concrete preparation of a digital scholarly edition. However, the state of the art presented in the text is not intended as a catalogue of digital scholarly editions, but as a well-thought list of the most representative experiences (which were reported in the review to allow the scholar to clearly understand the essential coordinates). In conclusion, the review discusses the incipit of the text, «Hic sunt leones», to answer the (implicit) question deriving from the title of the book: what basically this digital scientific edition is.

Per una critica del testo digitale, l’ultimo volume di Domenico Fiormonte, raccoglie quindici anni di articoli che hanno come tema il rapporto tra letteratura, filologia e rete. La recensione delinea gli aspetti più rilevanti della ricerca: dalla politicità del codice alla filologia intesa come approccio culturale che non deve limitarsi ai testi scritti ma deve usare i propri strumenti anche nei confronti degli algoritmi. Il volume, suddiviso in una parte teorico-metodologica e in una parte pratica, presenta delle riflessioni su alcune esperienze come Digital Variants, l’edizione critica digitale di alcuni autografi di autori italiani e spagnoli, facendoci entrare nel laboratorio del critico-codificatore con dei veri e propri esempi. Infine, il ruolo dell’interfaccia nelle edizioni digitali, il superamento del concetto di variante com’è tradizionalmente inteso e una riflessione sul modello pragmatico da opporre al modello postale della comunicazione di Shannon e Weaver compongono i tratti di una vera e propria critica del testo digitale in tutti i suoi aspetti.
