The article argues that ‘gentle tourism’ in particular shares similarities with the idyll. The term made popular by Robert Jungk in 1980 describes an autonomous kind of tourism that considers ecological and economical questions alike. It derives – thus the thesis of the article – its motifs from a subgenre of the idyll: German ‘Landlebendichtung’ (laus ruris). The analyses of the paradigmatic texts Das Landleben by Ewald von Kleist and Salomon Gesner’s Der Wunsch outline the characteristics of the genre at which core one can find the binary opposition of urban and rural forms of life.

Channel effects can severely degrade performance and reliability of a wireless communication system if they are not taken into account. An accurate characterization is indispensable for the proper design and parametrization of such data links. In this paper, the focus is on aircraft to ground station channel sounding and characterization to lay the foundation for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control and non-payload communication (CNPC) link designs. After a comprehensive review of related work, an introduction into the implemented channel sounding principle with the aid of a custom-made sounder is given, followed by a detailed description of the two measurement campaigns at Ingolstadt/Manching airport, Germany. The obtained large-scale fading results are presented, including shadowing and antenna misalignment effects. Then, small-scale fading is discussed by means of K-factors, delay, and Doppler spread statistics. For all evaluations, the recorded data set has been classified to work out and compare the characteristics of typical phases of UAV operation. Implications of the presented analyses on the parametrization of CNPC links are mentioned as well.

[EN] Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars have been shown to improve target detection for surveillance applications thanks to their proven high-performance properties. In this paper, the design, implementation, and results of a complete 3-D imaging frequency-modulated continuous-wave MIMO radar demonstrator are presented. The radar sensor working frequency range spans between 16 and 17 GHz, and the proposed solution is based on a 24-transmitter and 24-receiver MIMO radar architecture, implemented by timedivision multiplexing of the transmit signals. A modular approach based on conventional low-cost printed circuit boards is used for the transmit and receive systems. Using digital beamforming algorithms and radar processing techniques on the received signals, a high-resolution 3-D sensing of the range, azimuth, and elevation can be calculated. With the current antenna configuration, an angular resolution of 2.9° can be reached. Furthermore, by taking advantage of the 1-GHz bandwidth of the system, a range resolution of 0.5 m is achieved. The radio-frequency front-end, digital system and radar signal processing units are here presented. The medium-range surveillance potential and the high-resolution capabilities of the MIMO radar are proved with results in the form of radar images captured from the field measurements.

Cosolvent addition of glycerol (G) and the use of the cosolvent ethylene glycol (EG) increase the conductivity of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene-sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) films to values on the order of indium tin oxide conductivity. The underlying morphological changes are probed via scanning electron microscopy as well as advanced scattering techniques microfocused grazing incidence small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering. The enhancement in conductivity is ascribed to fundamental morphological changes and molecular reorientation within crystalline domains. Thereby, the conductivity enhancement is directly correlated to domain ruptures toward smaller and more densely packed PEDOT domains together with an enhanced crystallinity, the removal of PSS molecules, and moreover a reorientation of the conjugated PEDOT molecules. The latter is reported and quantified here for PEDOT:PSS films for the first time.
