Abstract

A novel method that property incorporates the effect of energy transfer on the nonlinear response functions to simulate the peak shift for weakly coupled, multi-chromophoric energy transfer systems is presented. The method involves the calculation of third-order response functions for energy transfer systems in order to account for the interactions of the laser pulses with chromophore.

Abstract

An inhomogeneous excited-state proton-transfer kinetics model is used for describing the origin of the non-exponential time-resolved emission of the A-band of wt-green fluorescence protein. The inhomogeneous kinetics is attributed to the distance dependence of the excited-state proton-transfer rate between the proton donor and the oxygen of a nearby water molecule.

A series of nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores are prepared, in which pyrrole moieties are the conjugated bridge. These chromophores have shown similar or enhanced NLO effects and optical behavior when compared to their analogues containing furan or thiophene groups as the bridge.

Abstract

The temperature dependence of the conformational change of single proteins between 5 and 18 K is described. The fluorescence excitation spectrum of single chromophores has shown the conformational change to be either a thermally activated motion over a potential barrier of around 100 J/mol or a tunneling of a proton through a thermally inaccessible high barrier.

Abstract

The thermodynamic stability of the four protonation states of the HBI chromophore in aqueous solvent at room temperature is presented. It is concluded that, besides electrostatic interactions, pK(sub a) associated with entropy contributions shifts due to selective restriction of internal rotational degrees of freedom that are vital determinants to ensure functionality of chromophoric groups in proteins such as GFP, bacterorhodopsin, photosynthetic bile pigments, or sensory pigments.

Abstract

Study is presented to show that chromophore-metal particle assembly has impressive two-photon properties, and the level of interaction between chromophores may be related to formation of specific geometric domains on the metal surface. The evidence for ultrafast energy migration is seen in this chromophore shell-metal nanoparticles system, which is of potential interest for light harvesting and sensing applications.
