The development of airport security screening systems requires the use of increasingly sophisticated and effective equipment to detect prohibited or hazardous items and substances. However, this can lead to a reduction in the throughput of the security checkpoint (SCP). This paper addresses the operationally important problem of the dilemma between screening effectiveness and screening checkpoint throughput, which is important to the real operational capabilities of an airport. In this paper, a comparison of traditional walk-through metal detectors (WTMD) gates and newer technology body scanners (BSs) was carried out in terms of SCP throughput as an element determining the operational capabilities of the airport. For this purpose, a simulation model was developed to study throughput based on a colored timed Petri net. The analysis showed that, depending on the characteristics of the available staff, the level of terrorist and epidemic threat, as well as the time of year, it is advantageous to use different strategies to vary the size of the stream of passengers directed for screening by the WTMD gate and BS. New expectations in the field of psychotechnical tests and screening of transport operators has led to the improvement of theoretical foundations and increase in quality of the psychological judicature, which has proved to be challenging to the scientific units and health centers. The purpose of the abovementioned adjudicating is to determine the existence or the absence of the contraindications to drive a vehicle or to perform the duties of an instructor or an examiner. This is particularly difficult in case of the branch of unit based transport (that is road transport) where the results of the emergencies are usually incomparably lesser than in others means of transport (air, rail, sea). These tests have been presented only from the perspective of professional transport operators and their range is limited. The publication contains the description of a new methodology of testing transport operators with the use of a device that allows to determine the level of functional efficiency of the nervous system and the correlation of mental processes (such as the efficiency of cognitive, intellectual, and psychomotor functions and selected personality features, temperament) with the physiological parameters (pulse, GRS etc.) – that is Psychotronics. This device allows to diagnose the psychomotor efficiency of people employed in professions requiring special psychomotor vigilance and human activity where current psychological possibilities determine the life and safety of others.

Value Stream Mapping is an efficient and powerful tool of the Lean Manufacturing system that helps in eliminating Non-Value-Added activities (NVAs) in a process by clearly exposing the areas where there is waste in the Value stream (Information and material flow). Value Stream Mapping is a standardized way to document the steps in a process and systematically analyze the steps to develop improvement plans. The "current state map" is a foundation for the improved "future state map" that is developed after eliminating the NVAs identified in the current state map and thereby decreasing the lead time. It can be implemented not only in manufacturing sectors but also in many different sectors such as IT sectors, Healthcare sectors and government service sectors to identify and eliminate the processes or operations that do not add any value to the product or in other words, the processes for which the customer is not willing to pay. The main objective of this work is to study the process flow of a part family in a steel industry located in Southern part of India using value stream mapping and eliminate the NVAs in the process by making some process and layout changes which will reduce the lead time and increase the profit of the organization. First, suitable value stream mapping is carried out for parts with similar kinds of existing manufacturing processes. Then all the NVAs present in the flow of the process are identified. Then, certain changes, such as converting the manufacturing layout into a cellular manufacturing layout and introducing continuous heat treatment processes, are made in order to eliminate the NVAs. The total lead time reduction for each part varies from 14.55 hours to 33.41 hours which is a significant amount of reduction. This paper also reviews the existing literature on Value Stream Mapping and how its implementation helps organizations successfully eliminate the waste and take them towards becoming a successful Lean Enterprise. In accordance with the new requirements of rail law, from June 2020, a railway undertaking or rail infrastructure manager applying for a single safety certificate/ authorization should demonstrate compliance with the relevant requirements of the Safety Management System (SMS) set out in the Commission delegated regulation (UE) 2018/762. To this end, he should provide proof to the national safety authority or, where applicable, to the European Union Agency for Railway Safety, of the establishment of a safety management system in accordance with Art. 9 of Directive (EU) 2016/798. According to Regulation, the organization should describe the scope of the safety management system, indicating which parts of the business are covered by it, considering legal requirements. European Commission Regulation (EU) No. 445/2011 regarding the system of certification for entities in charge of maintenance (ECM) of freight wagons requires such entities to supervise the condition of wagons, without specifying the methods of supervision to be used. Each ECM should establish a Maintenance Management System (MMS), which will include the obligation to monitor the fleet of freight wagons. Monitoring railway vehicle maintenance operations should include tracking all significant technical and operational indicators. The key question is which indicators are the have the greatest impact on safety. This paper discusses some issues related to the monitoring of maintenance operations for railway vehicles. It also looks at dedicated solutions for entities in charge of the maintenance for freight wagons based on PN-EN 50126:2002 standard and RAMS indicators (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety). This paper describes factor analysis of the proposed indicators as a means of selecting those that have a decisive impact on the correctness of the process for monitoring vehicles. This paper shows an example of the implementation of the requirements of the European Commission Regulation 445/2011 [3] regarding the monitoring of the state of railway vehicles and the possibility of using the information so gained as part of a process of continuous improvement. Reducing the number of indicators will reduce the amount of data needed to calculate all the RAMS indicators, without compromising the benefits of the rail vehicle monitoring system.
