Abstract Aims The efficacy of beta‐blockers in cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is unclear, and concerns persist that neurohormonal blockade could worsen symptoms of heart failure. We aimed to assess whether beta‐blocker therapy is associated with improved survival in patients with CA. Methods and results We conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis to examine the impact of beta‐blocker therapy on mortality in patients with CA. A search of MEDLINE and EMBASE was performed in August 2023. Data were extracted from observational studies and synthesized with pooling and random effects meta‐analysis. Thirteen studies including 4215 patients with CA were incorporated in this review (3688 transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR‐CM), 502 light chain amyloid cardiomyopathy (AL‐CM), 25 not specified; age 74.8 ± 5.5 years, 76% male). Over half of the cohort (52%) received beta‐blockers and the rate of beta‐blocker withdrawal was 28%. All‐cause mortality was 33% (range: 13–51%) after a median follow‐up ranging from 13 to 36 months. There was an inverse association between the pooled risk of mortality and the use of beta‐blocker therapy at any time point (RR 0.48, 95% CI 0.29–0.80, I2 = 83%, P = 0.005, seven studies). There was no association between mortality and beta‐blocker use (RR 0.65, 95% CI 0.29–1.47, I2 = 88%, P = 0.30) in the three studies that only included patients with ATTR‐CM. Abstract The identification of aviation hazardous winds is crucial and challenging in air traffic management for assuring flight safety, particularly during the take-off and landing phases. Existing criteria are typically tailored for special wind types, and whether there exists a universal feature that can effectively detect diverse types of hazardous winds from radar/lidar observations remains as an open question. Here we propose an interpretable semi-supervised clustering paradigm to solve this problem, where the prior knowledge and probabilistic models of winds are integrated to overcome the bottleneck of scarce labels (pilot reports). Based on this paradigm, a set of high-dimensional hazard features is constructed to effectively identify the occurrence of diverse hazardous winds and assess the intensity metrics. Verification of the paradigm across various scenarios has highlighted its high adaptability to diverse input data and good generalizability to diverse geographical and climate zones.

Abstract Due to safety concerns associated with ice accumulation, there is a need to develop a durable surface with anti/de‐icing properties. Inspired by Gecko skin and Nepenthes, a superhydrophobic photothermal surface (SH‐PS) with micro‐nano hierarchical structure based on carbon nanotube composites is prepared by one‐step laser method. It can be switchable to a slippery photothermal surface (S‐PS) by injecting silicone oil. S‐PS can effectively delay icing at −20 °C/−30 °C, and maintain excellent dynamic anti‐icing capabilities following 28 times supercooled droplet impact (−30 °C). Under near‐infrared (NIR) irradiation, S‐PS exhibits high‐efficiency photothermal deicing and excellent ice droplet control capabilities. Furthermore, S‐PS also exhibits remarkable droplet manipulation capabilities under NIR irradiation, even anti‐gravity transport (8°) and programmable track manipulation. Notably, after 20 m abrasion, the S‐PS still maintains good performances of anti/de‐icing and droplet manipulation after infusing lubricant. All these excellent performances can promote its application in a wider range of fields.

The climatic wind tunnel (CWT) is widely recognised as the optimal experimental environment for studying vehicle rainwater management, while the rainfall field generated by the CWT for vehicles may differ from the natural rainfall patterns. Therefore, this study aims to provide an approach to ensure consistency between the two rainfall environments by developing a virtual CWT (VCWT) rainfall scenario and a natural rainfall scenario. Two-phase flow computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method is conducted to reproduce the natural and CWT rainfall scenarios. Results of flow and rain fields of simulations are validated with experiment data respectively. Distributions of water film on the body surface and raindrop particles around the vehicle are discussed. The arrangement of rain spraying nozzles is optimised by assessing and analysing the discrepancy between the two rainfall scenarios so that a more rational rainfall environment can be provided in CWT. Improving the spacing and spray direction of nozzles benefits in narrowing the gap between natural and VCWT rainfall scenarios. An efficient approach is proposed in this work to make it possible to achieve the consistency between the rainfall environment in the CWT and the natural rainfall situation, providing an advance for rainwater management of vehicles.

We study diffractive vector meson production at small-x in the collision of electrons and polarized deuterons e+d↑. We consider the polarization dependence of the nuclear wave function of the deuteron, which results in an azimuthal angular dependence of the produced vector meson when the deuteron is transversely polarized. The Fourier coefficients extracted from the azimuthal angular dependence of the vector meson differential cross-section exhibit notable differences between longitudinally and transversely polarized deuterons. The angular dependence of the extracted effective deuteron radius provides direct insight into the structure of the polarized deuteron wave function. Furthermore, we observe slightly increased gluon saturation effects when the deuteron is longitudinally polarized compared to the transversely polarized case. The small-x observables studied in this work will be accessible at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Objective To construct a prognostic model for unsuccessful removal of nasogastric tube (NGT) was the aim of our study. Methods This study examined patients with swallowing disorders receiving NGT feeding due to stroke or traumatic brain injury in a regional hospital. Clinical data was collected, such as age, sex, body mass index (BMI), level of activities of daily living (ADLs) dependence. Additionally, gather information regarding the enhancement in Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) levels and the increase in food types according to the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) after one month of swallowing training. A stepwise logistic regression analysis model was employed to predict NGT removal failure using these parameters. Results Out of 203 patients, 53 patients (26.1%) had experienced a failed removal of NGT after six months of follow-up. The strongest predictors for failed removal were age over 60 years, underweight BMI, total dependence in ADLs, and ischemic stroke. The admission prediction model categorized patients into high, moderate, and low-risk groups for removal failure. The failure rate of NGT removal was high not only in the high-risk group but also in the moderate-risk groups when there was no improvement in FOIS levels and IDDSI food types. Conclusion Our predictive model categorizes patients with brain insults into risk groups for swallowing disorders, enabling advanced interventions such as percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy for high-risk patients struggling with NGT removal, while follow-up assessments using FOIS and IDDSI aid in guiding rehabilitation decisions for those at moderate risk.

BackgroundThe benefit of chronic total occlusion (CTO)-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is controversial because of a lack of high-quality evidence. We aim to evaluate the impact of CTO-PCI on symptoms, quality of life and mortality.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective single center study of patients with CTO-PCI in a tertiary center in Austria. The study outcomes were Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) angina score, quality of life measured by Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ), and death at median follow up for patients with successful vs. failed CTO-PCI.ResultsA total of 300 patients underwent CTO-PCI for coronary artery disease, of which 252 (84%) were technically successful with median follow up of 3.4 years. There were no significant differences in in-hospital or all-cause mortality, major adverse cardiovascular event, or stent-related complications between the groups of failed and successful CTO-PCI. Among patients with successful CTO-PCI there was a significant improvement in CCS score, which was not found for the group with failed CTO-PCI. Successful reopening was associated with significant benefits of the SAQ domains of angina with stressful activity [3.7 ± 0.9 vs. 3.1 ± 0.5, p = 0.004, use of nitrates (4.7 ± 0.5 vs. 3.0 ± 1.0) p = 0.005] and satisfaction from angina relief (4.4 ± 1.1 vs. 3.6 ± 1.4 p

Smaller Kapitza resistance is known to be the most crucial factor responsible for the larger thermal conductivity of nanofluids. But what the underlying mechanism is remains ambiguous. Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations were performed in the present work to examine the effect of ionic addition on the Kapitza resistance of Cu-water nanofluids. The temperature profile indicates that the concentration and type of the additive slightly affects the thickness of the interfacial layer, but the temperature drops significantly. For concentrations of 1 M, the interfacial thermal conductance (ITC, the reciprocal of the Kapitza resistance) of Cu-water with NaCl, NaOH and HCl increases by 48.1 %, 29.2 % and 22.6 % respectively, compared to that without additives. The greatest ITC improvement of 123.7 % can be achieved by adding 3 M NaCl. The density profiles of Cu-water nanofluids with various additives suggest that the changes in the interfacial structure are primarily due to the positions of the added cations and anions. It is important to note, however, that the ITC is closely related to the orderliness of the interfacial layer and the matching of the phonon density of states, since the addition of NaCl can increase the PDOS at lower frequencies 1–5 THz, where that for the Cu nanoparticle appears. The findings provide a practical approach to tailor the thermal conductivity of nanofluids by the addition of appropriate ions.

Beyond-5G (B5G) aims to meet the growing demands of mobile traffic and expand the communication space. Considering that intelligent applications to B5G wireless communications will involve security issues regarding user data and operational data, this paper analyzes the maximum capacity of the multi-watermarking method for multimedia signal hiding as a means of alleviating the information security problem of B5G. The multi-watermarking process employs spread transform dither modulation. During the watermarking procedure, Gram–Schmidt orthogonalization is used to obtain the multiple spreading vectors. Consequently, multiple watermarks can be simultaneously embedded into the same position of a multimedia signal. Moreover, the multiple watermarks can be extracted without affecting one another during the extraction process. We analyze the effect of the size of the spreading vector on the unit maximum capacity, and consequently derive the theoretical relationship between the size of the spreading vector and the unit maximum capacity. A number of experiments are conducted to determine the optimal parameter values for maximum robustness on the premise of high capacity and good imperceptibility.

Abstract High-energy nuclear collisions provide a unique site for the synthesis of both nuclei and antinuclei at temperatures of k T ≈ 100 − 150 MeV. In these little bangs of transient collisions, a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) of nearly vanishing viscosity is created, which is believed to have existed in the early universe within the first few microseconds after the Big Bang. Analyses of identified particles produced in these little bangs based on the statistical hadronization model for the QGP have suggested that light (anti)nuclei are produced from the QGP as other hadrons and their abundances are little affected by later hadronic dynamics. Here, we find a strong reduction of the triton yield by about a factor of 1.8 in high-energy heavy-ion collisions based on a kinetic approach that includes the effects of hadronic re-scatterings, particularly that due to pion-catalyzed multi-body reactions. This finding is supported by the latest experimental measurements and thus unveils the important role of hadronic dynamics in the little-bang nucleosynthesis.

The calibration procedure for a wearable P300 brain-computer interface (BCI) greatly impact the user experience of the system. Each user needs to spend additional time establishing a decoder adapted to their own brainwaves. Therefore, achieving subject independent is an urgent issue for wearable P300 BCI needs to be addressed. A dataset of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals was constructed from 100 individuals by conducting a P300 speller task with a wearable EEG amplifier. A framework is proposed that initially improves cross- subject consistency of EEG features through a common feature extractor. Subsequently, a simple and compact convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture is employed to learn an embedding sub-space, where the mapped EEG features are maximally separated, while pursuing the minimum distance within the same class and the maximum distance between different classes. Finally, the model’s generalization capability was further optimized through fine-tuning. Results: The proposed method significantly boosts the average accuracy of wearable P300 BCI to $73.23\pm 7.62$ % without calibration and $78.75\pm 6.37$ % with fine-tuning. The results demonstrate the feasibility and excellent performance of our dataset and framework. A calibration-free wearable P300 BCI system is feasible, suggesting significant potential for practical applications of the wearable P300 BCI system.

Abstract Objectives To explore the clinical characteristics, postnatal treatment and prognosis of giant fetal hepatic hemangioma (GFHH). Method Retrospective analysis was performed on children with giant fetal hepatic hemangioma (maximum tumor diameter > 40 mm) diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound and MRI from December 2016 to December 2020. These patients were observed and treated at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University after birth. The clinical data were collected to analyze the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of GFHH using independent sample t tests or Fisher’s exact tests. Results Twenty-nine patients who were detected by routine ultrasound in the second and third trimester of pregnancy with giant fetal hepatic hemangiomas were included. The first prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of gestational age was 34.0 ± 4.3 weeks, ranging from 22 to 39 weeks. Of the patients, 28 had focal GFHHs and 1 had multifocal GFHHs. Surgery was performed, and the diagnosis was confirmed histopathologically in two patients. There were 8 cases with echocardiography-based evidence of pulmonary hypertension, 11 cases had a cardiothoracic ratio > 0.6, and 4 cases had hepatic arteriovenous fistula (AVF). The median follow-up time was 37 months (range: 14–70 months). During the follow-up, 12 patients received medical treatment with propranolol as the first-line therapy. The treatment group had a higher ratio of cardiothoracic ratio > 0.6 (P = 0.022) and lower albumin levels (P = 0.018). Four (14.8%) lesions showed postnatal growth before involuting. Complete response was observed in 13 (13/29) patients, and partial response was observed in 16 (16/29) patients. Conclusions Fetal giant hepatic hemangioma is mainly localized, and its clinical outcome conforms to RICH (rapidly involuting) and PICH (partially involuting), but some fetal giant hepatic hemangiomas will continue to grow after birth and then gradually decrease. For uncomplicated giant fetal hepatic hemangioma, postnatal follow-up is the main concern, while those with complications require aggressive medical treatment. Propranolol may have no effect on the volume change of GFHH.

Abstract The accurate preoperative diagnosis and tracking of lung adenocarcinoma is hindered by non-targeting and diffusion of dyes used for marking tumors. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop a practical nanoprobe for tracing lung adenocarcinoma precisely even treating them noninvasively. Herein, Gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) conjugate with thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) antibody, then multifunctional nanoprobe Au-TTF-1 is designed and synthesized, which underscores the paramount importance of advancing the machine learning diagnosis and bioimaging-guided treatment of lung adenocarcinoma. Bright fluorescence (FL) and strong CT signal of Au-TTF-1 set the stage for tracking. Furthermore, the high specificity of TTF-1 antibody facilitates selective targeting of lung adenocarcinoma cells as compared to common lung epithelial cells, so machine learning software Lung adenocarcinoma auxiliary detection system was designed, which combined with Au-TTF-1 to assist the intelligent recognition of lung adenocarcinoma jointly. Besides, Au-TTF-1 not only contributes to intuitive and targeted visualization, but also guides the following noninvasive photothermal treatment. The boundaries of tumor are light up by Au-TTF-1 for navigation, it penetrates into tumor and implements noninvasive photothermal treatment, resulting in ablating tumors in vivo locally. Above all, Au-TTF-1 serves as a key platform for target bio-imaging navigation, machine learning diagnosis and synergistic PTT as a single nanoprobe, which demonstrates attractive performance on lung adenocarcinoma. Nacre has excellent balanced strength and toughness. In this paper, the mechanical performance of the typical “brick-and-mortar” structure, including the stress–strain and strain at the interface as well as the stress in the bricks, was calculated by a simplified analytical model of the nacre. This paper proposes a new method to control the crack deflection based on the toughening mechanism of the nacre. The crack extension of the “brick-and-mortar” structure was simulated using cohesive elements based on the traction–separation law with elastic and softening stiffness as variables, and it was found that both stiffness could effectively control the crack extension. The strength and toughness of the models with different stiffness combinations were calculated and plotted as a function of elastic stiffness and softening stiffness, showing that elastic stiffness significantly affects strength and softening stiffness is a determinant of toughness.

The desert steppe in Ningxia is the largest natural steppe type in the region, characterized by a fragile ecological environment and low carrying capacity. Gravel–sand mulching, a local agricultural practice, involves using a sand and gravel covering layer to maintain soil warmth and moisture. However, this method has led to ecological problems, such as habitat loss and biodiversity loss. Tenebrionidae, one of the most widely distributed beetle families, is commonly used to indicate habitat degradation and is a significant steppe pest in desert steppe areas. This study, conducted in the gravel–sand mulching areas of Shapotou District, Zhongwei City, Ningxia, classified the habitat loss from low to high in these areas into five grades (I-V) and examined the effects of habitat loss on Tenebrionidae. We collected 6565 Tenebrionidae, with Blaps femoralis, Anatolica nureti, and Pterocoma vittata being the dominant species. The findings reveal that habitat loss grade I had the highest abundance, diversity index, and evenness index of Tenebrionidae, significantly higher than those of grades II–IV. Habitat loss had a significant negative effect on Tenebrionidae abundance, a significant positive effect on the richness index, no significant effect on the vegetation diversity index, a significant positive effect on soil available potassium (APP), and a significant negative effect on soil total phosphorus (TP). Redundancy analysis indicated a positive correlation between Tenebrionidae abundance and the vegetation diversity index; a negative correlation between Tenebrionidae richness, the diversity index, and vegetation indices; a positive correlation between Tenebrionidae abundance and soil TP; and a negative correlation between the Tenebrionidae diversity index and soil TP and soil APP. These findings will contribute to biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration and provide a theoretical basis for steppe management, sustainable agricultural development, and pest monitoring in desert steppe environments.

The intricate geological characteristics of tight oil reservoirs, characterized by extremely low porosity and permeability as well as pronounced heterogeneity, have led to a decline in reservoir pressure, substantial gas expulsion, an accelerated decrease in oil production rates, and the inadequacy of traditional water injection methods for enhancing oil recovery. As a result, operators encounter heightened operational costs and prolonged timelines necessary to achieve optimal production levels. This situation underscores the increasing demand for advanced techniques specifically designed for tight oil reservoirs. An internal evaluation is presented, focusing on the application of molecular deposition film techniques for enhanced oil recovery from tight oil reservoirs, with the aim of elucidating the underlying mechanisms of this approach. The research addresses fluid flow resistance by employing aqueous solutions as transmission media and leverages electrostatic interactions to generate nanometer-thin films that enhance the surface properties of the reservoir while modifying the interaction dynamics between oil and rock. This facilitates the more efficient displacement of injected fluids to replace oil during pore flushing processes, thereby achieving enhanced oil recovery objectives. The experimental results indicate that an improvement in oil displacement efficiency is attained by increasing the concentration of the molecular deposition film agent, with 400 mg/L identified as the optimal concentration from an economic perspective. It is advisable to commence with a concentration of 500 mg/L before transitioning to 400 mg/L, considering the adsorption effects near the well zone and dilution phenomena within the reservoir. Molecular deposition films can effectively reduce injection pressure, enhance injection capacity, and lower initiation pressure. These improvements significantly optimize flow conditions within the reservoir and increase core permeability, resulting in a 7.82% enhancement in oil recovery. This molecular deposition film oil recovery technology presents a promising innovative approach for enhanced oil recovery, serving as a viable alternative to conventional water flooding methods.

Summary: The high infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment prominently attenuates the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies, yet the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Here, we investigate the metabolic profile of TAMs and identify S-2-hydroxyglutarate (S-2HG) as a potential immunometabolite that shapes macrophages into an antitumoral phenotype. Blockage of L-2-hydroxyglutarate dehydrogenase (L2HGDH)-mediated S-2HG catabolism in macrophages promotes tumor regression. Mechanistically, based on its structural similarity to α-ketoglutarate (α-KG), S-2HG has the potential to block the enzymatic activity of 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases (2-OGDDs), consequently reshaping chromatin accessibility. Moreover, S-2HG-treated macrophages enhance CD8+ T cell-mediated antitumor activity and sensitivity to anti-PD-1 therapy. Overall, our study uncovers the role of blockage of L2HGDH-mediated S-2HG catabolism in orchestrating macrophage antitumoral polarization and, further, provides the potential of repolarizing macrophages by S-2HG to overcome resistance to anti-PD-1 therapy.

Under the present study, we focus on developing some exact solutions of the (3 + 1)-dimensional generalized Kudryashov-Sinelshchikov equation (KSE) for the liquid with gas bubbles. First, the resonant soliton molecules on the different planes are extracted via imposing the velocity resonance condition on the N-soliton solutions that constructed via the Hirota bilinear method. Besides, the asymmetric solitons are also derived by choosing the appropriate parameters. In the end, the diverse kinds of travelling wave solutions including the bright wave, dark wave, singular wave and periodic wave solutions that expressed by the trigonometric, hyperbolic and rational functions are constructed by employing three effective approaches, namely the variational method, Sub-equation method and Wang’s direct mapping method-II. The profiles of the attained solutions are depicted to present the dynamical performances. As far as we all know, the results of this research are all new and can enable us figure out the physical properties of the (3 + 1)-dimensional generalized KSE better.

The production of second-generation biofuel requires a huge amount of freshwater. It is estimated that at least three gal of freshwater is used to produce one gal of biofuel. The replacement of freshwater with seawater serves as a potential alternative in biofuel generation. Therefore, salt-tolerant enzymes play an important role in saccharification and fermentation process. Halophilic β-glucosidase is one of the key enzymes for the process. In this study, the β-glucosidase of halophile Meridianimaribacter sp. CL38 isolated from mangrove soil was characterized. Strain CL38 achieved maximum production of β-glucosidase at 12th hour of growth. The β-glucosidase showed highest activity at 2% (w/v) NaCl while highly stable at salt concentration ranging from 1-2% (w/v) (more than 96% of relative activity). Its β-glucosidase activity remained active in the presence of 5mM Mn2+, Mg2+, Ca2+ ions, and 1% (v/v) Tween-20 and Tween-80. The draft genome sequence of strain CL38 was retrieved from GenBank database and submitted to dbCAN meta server for CAZymes annotation. Strain CL38 harbors 44 GHs and GH3 are annotated as β-glucosidases. The β-glucosidases of Meridianimaribacter flavus (99.61%) and Mesoflavibacter sabulilitoris (97.44%) showed the closest identity with Bgl3a and Bgl3b protein sequences from strain CL38, respectively. Glycoside hydrolase family 3 domain was identified in both enzymes via InterPro scan server. The presence of signal peptides indicated that both enzymes were secreted extracellularly. Five motifs were identified in Bgl3a and Bgl3b, with the active site (nucleophile) found at Asp296 and Asp297, respectively. Collectively, these β-glucosidases could be potentially used in the biofuel production, in particular the lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment process. This is the first attempt to characterize the β-glucosidase in genus Meridianimaribacter as so far none of the lignocellulolytic enzymes from this genus were characterized.

Abstract The continuous development of smart industrial parks has imposed increasingly stringent requirements on safety helmet detection in environments such as factories, construction sites, rail transit, and fire protection. Current models often suffer from issues like false alarms or missed detections, especially when dealing with small and densely packed targets. This study aims to enhance the YOLOv5 target detection method to provide real-time alerts for individuals not wearing safety helmets in complex scenarios. Our approach involves incorporating the ECA channel attention mechanism into the YOLOv5 backbone network, allowing for efficient feature extraction while reducing computational load. We adopt a weighted bi-directional feature pyramid network structure (BiFPN) to facilitate effective feature fusion and cross-scale information transmission. Additionally, the introduction of a decoupling head in YOLOv5 improves detection performance and convergence rate. The experimental results demonstrate a substantial improvement in the YOLOv5 model's performance. The enhanced YOLOv5 model achieved an average accuracy of 95.9% on a custom-made helmet dataset, a 3.0 percentage point increase compared to the original YOLOv5 model. This study holds significant implications for enhancing the accuracy and robustness of helmet-wearing detection in various settings.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies by pooling data of patients undergoing CAG due to suspected or stable CAD that received a bilateral renal artery angiography. Results: A total of 31 studies with 31,689 patients were included (mean age 63.2 ± 8.7 years, 20.9% were female). Overall, 13.4% (95%CI 10.5–16.7%) of patients undergoing coronary angiography had significant RAS, with 6.5% (95% CI 4.5–8.9%) and 3.7% (95%CI 2.5–5.2%) having severe and bilateral RAS. The mean weighted proportion of patients with three-vessel coronary disease (3VD) was 25.1 (95%CI 19.6–30.9%) while 4.2% (95%CI 2.6–6.2%) had left main (LM) coronary disease. Patients with RAS compared to those without RAS were significantly older (mean difference, MD 4.2 years (95%CI 3.8–4.6)). The relative risk of RAS was greater for the female sex (risk ratio, 95%CI; RR 1.3, 1.03–1.57), presence of diabetes (RR 1.2, 1.10–1.36), arterial hypertension (RR 1.3, 1.21–1.46), dyslipidemia (RR 1.1, 1.06–1.14), peripheral artery disease (PAD) (RR 2.1, 1.40–3.16), chronic kidney disease (CKD) (RR 2.6, 2.04–3.37), 3VD (RR 1.6, 1.30–1.87), and LM disease (RR 1.8, 1.28–2.47). Smoking had a neutral effect on the risk of RAS occurrence (RR 1.0, 0.94–1.06). Conclusions: RAS is common in patients undergoing coronary angiography. CKD, PAD, older age, and severe CAD were among the strongest predictors for the presence of significant RAS.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the burden and impact of cardiac and cerebrovascular disease (CCD) on hospital inpatients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: This is a retrospective nationwide cohort study of people with T1DM with or without CCD in the US National Inpatient Sample between 2016 and 2019. The in-hospital mortality rates, length of stay (LoS), and healthcare costs were determined. Results: A total of 59,860 T1DM patients had a primary diagnosis of CCD and 1,382,934 did not. The median LoS was longer for patients with CCD compared to no CCD (4.6 vs. 3 days). Patients with T1DM and CCD had greater in-hospital mortality compared to those without CCD (4.1% vs. 1.1%, p < 0.001). The estimated total care cost for all patients with T1DM with CCD was approximately USD 326 million. The adjusted odds of mortality compared to patients with non-CCD admission was greatest for intracranial hemorrhage (OR 17.37, 95%CI 12.68–23.79), pulmonary embolism (OR 4.39, 95%CI 2.70–7.13), endocarditis (OR 3.46, 95%CI 1.22–9.84), acute myocardial infarction (OR 2.31, 95%CI 1.92–2.77), and stroke (OR 1.47, 95%CI 1.04–2.09). Conclusions: The burden of CCD in patients with T1DM is substantial and significantly associated with increased hospital mortality and high healthcare expenditures.

Background: The Risk of Paradoxical Embolism (RoPE) score was developed to identify stroke-related patent foramen ovale (PFO) in patients with cryptogenic stroke. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the 2016 to 2020 National Inpatient Sample to determine the performance of the modified RoPE score in identifying the presence of a PFO in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Results: A total of 3,338,805 hospital admissions for AIS were analysed and 3.0% had PFO. Patients with PFO were younger compared to those without a PFO (median 63 years vs. 71 years, p < 0.001) and fewer were female (46.1% vs. 49.7%, p < 0.001). The patients with PFO had greater mean modified RoPE scores (4.0 vs. 3.3, p < 0.001). The area under the curve for the RoPE score in predicting PFOs was 0.625 (95%CI 0.620–0.629). The best diagnostic power of the RoPE score was achieved with a cut-off point of ≥4 where the sensitivity was 55% and the specificity was 64.2%. A cut-off point of ≥5 increased the specificity (83.1%) at the expense of sensitivity (35.8%). The strongest predictor of PFOs was deep vein thrombosis (OR 3.97, 95%CI 3.76–4.20). Conclusions: The modified RoPE score had modest predictive value in identifying patients with PFO among patients admitted with AIS.

Despite the efforts to deliver the best evidence-based care, in-hospital death is an inevitable event among some patients hospitalized in cardiology departments. We conducted a retrospective evaluation of mortality events from inpatient admissions to the cardiology department between 2010 and 2019. Data were collected from morbidity and mortality meeting presentations that evaluated comorbidities, medical history, treatments, and causes of death for the overall cohort and according to age group and sex. There were 1182 registered deaths. The most common causes of death among patients were acute myocardial infarction (AMI, 53.0%), heart failure (HF, 11.7%), cardiac arrest (CA, 6.6%), HF with complication/defined cardiomyopathy (6.3%), and sepsis (4.4%). We observed a decline in deaths from AMI from 61.9% in 2010 to 46.7% in 2019, while there was a clear increase in deaths from HF (11.1% in 2010 to 25.9% in 2019). Compared to patients ≥65 years, younger patients were more likely to have died from CA (15.7% vs. 4.3%, p < 0.001) and other cardiac reasons (3.0% vs. 0.4%, p < 0.001). The majority of deaths were due to AMI, HF, and CA. We observed a significant declining trend in the proportion of deaths due to AMI in recent years, with an increase in deaths due to HF.

Abstract Background Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a syndrome with high 28- and 90-day mortality rates. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used to diagnose and evaluate liver disease. Our purpose is to determine the value of the imaging features derived from Gd-DTPA-enhanced MRI for predicting the poor outcome of patients with ACLF and develop a clinically practical radiological score. Methods This retrospective study comprised 175 ACLF patients who underwent Gd-DTPA-enhanced abdominal MRI from January 2017 to December 2021. The primary end-point was 90-day mortality. Imaging parameters, such as diffuse hyperintense of the liver on T2WI, patchy enhancement of the liver at the arterial phase, uneven enhancement of the liver at the portal vein phase, gallbladder wall edema, periportal edema, ascites, esophageal and gastric varix, umbilical vein patefac, portal vein thrombosis, and splenomegaly were screened. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to evaluate prognostic factors and develop a prediction model. The accuracy of the model was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results During the follow-up period, 31 of the 175 ACLF patients died within 90 days. In the multivariate analysis, three imaging parameters were independently associated with survival: diffuse hyperintense on T2WI (p = 0.007; HR = 3.53 [1.40–8.89]), patchy enhancement at the arterial phase (p = 0.037; HR = 2.45 [1.06–5.69]), moderate ascites (vs. mild) (p = 0.006; HR = 4.12 [1.49–11.36]), and severe ascites (vs. mild) (p = 0.005; HR = 4.29 [1.57–11.71]). A practical radiological score was proposed, based on the presence of diffuse hyperintense (7 points), patchy enhancement (5 points), and ascites (6, 8, and 8 points for mild, moderate, and severe, respectively). Further analysis showed that a cut-off at 14 points was optimum to distinguish high-risk (score > 14) from the low-risk group (score ≤ 14) for 90-day survival and demonstrated a mean area under the ROC curve of 0.774 in ACLF patients. Conclusions Gd-DTPA-enhanced MR imaging features can predict poor outcomes in patients with ACLF, based on which we proposed a clinically practical radiological score allowing stratification of the 90-day survival.

BackgroundCoronary artery disease (CAD) is a common finding in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, the impact on prognosis of chronic total occlusions (CTOs), a drastic expression of CAD, remains unclear.Methods and resultsWe retrospectively reviewed 1,487 consecutive TAVR cases performed at a single tertiary care medical center. Pre-TAVR angiograms were analyzed for the presence of a CTO. At the time of TAVR, 11.2% (n = 167) patients had a CTO. There was no significant association between the presence of a CTO and in-hospital or 30-day mortality. There was also no difference in long-term survival. LV ejection fraction and mean aortic gradients were lower in the CTO group.ConclusionsOur analysis suggests that concomitant CTO lesions in patients undergoing TAVR differ in their risk profile and clinical findings to patients without CTO. CTO lesion per se were not associated with increased mortality, nevertheless CTOs which supply non-viable myocardium in TAVR population were associated with increased risk of death. Additional research is needed to evaluate the prognostic significance of CTO lesions in TAVR patients.

BackgroundA congenital duodenal diaphragm (CDD) is a rare cause of duodenal obstruction in infants and children. The traditional approach to treatment has been surgical intervention either with excision and duodenoplasty or with bypass through a duodenoduodenostomy, which is invasive and carries the risk of anastomotic leakage.AimsTo summarize the key points of differential diagnosis and treatment of a CDD under gastroscopy and to evaluate its efficacy and safety.MethodsThe clinical data of patients with a duodenal obstruction diagnosed and treated by gastroscopy in our hospital between January 2019 and December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The gastroscopic features of the CDD were summarized. The clinical outcomes of patients with CDD treated by gastroscopy were collected and investigated.ResultsA total of 13 children with a duodenal obstruction underwent a gastroscopic examination and/or treatment, and of these, 10 were diagnosed as having a CDD and 3 were finally diagnosed as having an annular pancreas. A dome-shaped structure during inspiration (9/10) and a guidewire that could be inserted through the opening into the distal lumen (6/10) were the gastroscopic features of the CDD, while the annular pancreas had none of these features. The 10 patients, 4 men and 6 women with the CDD, were treated through endoscopic diaphragmotomy and dilation. The age and weight at operation was 15 days to 7 years (M: 2.25 years) and 2.85–22 kg (M: 13.6 kg), respectively. A total of 11 endoscopic operations were performed in the 10 patients. The time of single operation was 15–55 min (M: 38 min). The patients did not experience complications such as bleeding, pneumoperitoneum, and duodenal papilla injury during the operation. Feeding was started 12–24 h after surgery, and the patients were discharged 2–10 days (M: 7 days) postoperatively. The patients were followed up for 3–36 months (M: 17 months), and none of them had a recurrence of vomiting. However, three showed a recurrence of stenosis in upper gastrointestinal imaging, one of whom underwent a partial diaphragm resection again 2 months after the primary treatment.ConclusionsA CDD can be confirmed by endoscopy based on its characteristic features. Endoscopic diaphragmotomy and balloon dilation are safe and effective, which can be a new option for minimally invasive treatment of a CDD.

ObjectiveTo investigate health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients after surgical repair for esophageal atresia (EA) and identify its potential influencing factors.MethodsA total of 102 EA children who had previously visited our hospital participated in this cross-sectional study. Basic data and disease data of the patients were collected. The HRQOL was measured with the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™4.0 (PedsQL™4.0) and EA-QOL questionnaire and ranked on a reverse 0–100 scale, with a higher number indicative of a better HRQOL perception. The scores of PedsQL™4.0 in children with EA were collected and compared with that of the demographically matched healthy control group. Meanwhile, the condition-specific HRQOL of EA was analyzed by the EA-QOL questionnaire, and the potential clinical factors that influenced the HRQOL were determined by the generalized linear model.ResultsThe group of EA and control reached a similar score in the generic PedsQL™4.0 (EA group: 86.55 ± 9.69; control group: 89.41 ± 6.54; p = 0.670). There was no significant difference between the EA group and the control group in other domains except the school functioning. Condition-specific HRQOL in the 2–7-year-old group had the highest score in social isolation and stress domain and the lowest score in the physical health and treatment domain, with an overall quality of life score of 83.48 ± 10.22. The scores of the 8–17-year-old group were relatively high in social relationships and health and well-being and lowest in the eating domain, with an overall quality of life score of 89.43 ± 8.57. Heart malformation, complicated esophageal surgery history, respiratory symptoms,and digestive symptoms in the past 1 month were the main factors affecting the HRQOL of children aged 2–7 years. Complicated esophageal surgery history, respiratory symptoms, and digestive symptoms in the past 1 month were the main factors affecting the HRQOL of children aged 8–17 years.ConclusionsThe findings suggest that patients with EA generally had a good HRQOL. However, EA children with postoperative complications and associated symptoms have lower scores in the EA-QOL questionnaire.

Abstract Oil‐immersed transformers play an important role in the stable operation of power systems. In order to improve the accuracy of transformer fault diagnosis, a transformer fault diagnosis method based on Isomap and IChOA‐LSSVM is proposed. Firstly, Isomap is used to reduce the dimensionality of the 14‐dimensional transformer fault characteristics data to eliminate redundant data between variables. In addition, IChOA is proposed to optimise the Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LSSVM) parameters and establish an optimal diagnosis model based on LSSVM. For ChOA, three improvement methods are proposed. Circle mapping is used instead of the original population initialisation to improve population diversity. In addition, the location weighting strategy with proportional weights and the Gaussian Corsi variation strategy is proposed to improve the optimization accuracy and efficiency of ChOA. The improved ChOA is compared with the original ChOA, PSO and GWO algorithms by five benchmark test functions. Finally, the improved Chimpanzee Optimisation algorithm was used to find the parameters of the LSSVM to obtain the fault diagnosis model combining Isomap and IChOA‐LSSVM. The model is compared with PSO‐LSSVM, ChOA‐LSSVM and GWO‐LSSVM. The diagnostic accuracy is 90.83%, 81.67%, 83.33% and 80%, respectively. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively improve the performance of transformer fault diagnosis.

Despite wide applications of noble metal-based catalysts in 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) oxidation, promoting the catalytic performance at low loading amounts still remains a significant challenge. Herein, a series of metal oxide modified MOx-Au/TiO2 (M = Fe, Co, Ni) catalysts with low Au loading amount of 0.5 wt% were synthesized. Addition of transition metal oxides promotes electron transfer and generation of the Auδ−–Ov–Ti3+ interface. A combination study reveals that the dual-active site (Auδ−-Ov-Ti3+) governs the catalytic performance of the rate-determining step, namely hydroxyl group oxidation. Auδ− site facilitates chemisorption and activation of O2 molecules. At the same time, Ov-Ti3+ site acts as the role of “killing two birds with one stone”: enhancing adsorption of both reactants, accelerating the activation and dissociation of H2O, and facilitating activation of the adsorbed O2. Besides, superoxide radicals instead of base is the active oxygen species during the rate-determining step. On this basis, a FDCA yield of 71.2% was achieved under base-free conditions, complying with the “green chemistry” principle. This work provides a new strategy for the transition metal oxides modification of Au-based catalysts, which would be constructive for the rational design of other heterogeneous catalysts.

Background: There is uncertainty regarding the impact of multidrug-resistant organisms on patients that undergo cardiac surgery. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed by using 2016–2019 data from the National Inpatient Sample in the United States to evaluate the proportion of admissions with a diagnosis of antimicrobial resistance who also underwent coronary artery bypass graft or valve surgery. Results: A total of 1,260,630 admissions were included in the analysis, of which 2045 (0.16%) had antimicrobial resistance. Compared to patients without resistance, those with antimicrobial resistance were more likely to be female (52.8% vs. 31.5%, p < 0.001), and die in a hospital (7.1% vs. 2.4%, p < 0.001). The length of stay and cost were significantly higher for patients with antimicrobial resistance (15 vs. 7 days and USD 69,135 vs. USD 43,740, respectively). Antimicrobial resistance was not associated with increased in-hospital mortality (OR 1.38; 95% CI 0.86–2.21, p = 0.18), although it was associated with an increase in length of stay (coefficient 7.65; 95% CI 6.91–8.39, p < 0.001), and cost (coefficient USD 25,240 [21,626–28,854], p < 0.001). Conclusions: Antimicrobial resistance in patients that undergo cardiac surgery is not common, yet its burden is substantial as it can double the length of stay and increase costs by more than USD 20,000.

Accurate marine wind detection under all-weather conditions is crucial for maritime activities. The joint detection of lidar and radar is supposed to be a potential way to carry out the all-weather sensing of wind. However, their performance analysis has not been well studied, particularly in the far sea area, where the wind-tracing particles are quite different from those inland. Based on the particle distributions above the sea surface under different weather conditions, this study investigated the scattering and attenuation effects of lidar and radar waves in open sea areas with the Mie theory and T-matrix method. Then, the maximum detection range and velocity accuracies of lidar/radar were comprehensively analyzed based on detection principles to optimize the combination of lidar and radar. According to the simulation results, it was difficult to maintain the detection capability of a single lidar/radar under all-weather conditions, and 1.55 μm lidar and W-band radar presented a promising joint detection scheme, as they exhibited optimal weather adaptability in clear sky and precipitation conditions, respectively.

This paper aims to apply experimental methods to investigate the effect of the thickness of gas layers on the wall on the collapse direction of spark-induced bubbles. In the experiment, two high-speed cameras synchronously record the time evolution of the bubbles and the corresponding parameters such as the normalized collapse position and bubble collapse time. Experiments yielded results for individual bubbles over a range of normalized distances from 0 to 4.0 for different air layer thicknesses. Based on the morphology of the bubbles, the experimental jets were visualized into six different modes, namely, forward jet (FJ), merging jet (MJ), bidirectional jet (BJ), reversing jet (RJ), forward followed by reversing jet (FRJ), and non-directional jet (NDJ). The height of the air layer on the wall is affected by the fluctuation of the bubble volume and shows the opposite trend to the change of the bubble volume. The air film reaches its maximum height when the bubble collapses, which affects the final jet pattern. In addition, as the thickness of the air layer increases, the center of the bubble gradually migrates away from the wall. The different collapse modes and the migration of the bubble centers have positive significance for reducing cavitation erosion in engineering.

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is a condition caused by extracellular deposition of amyloid fibrils in the heart. It is an underdiagnosed disease entity which can present with a variety of cardiac and non-cardiac manifestations. Diagnosis usually follows an initial suspicion based on clinical evaluation or imaging findings before confirmation with subsequent imaging (echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, 3,3-diphosphono-1,2-propanodicarboxylic acid scintigraphy) in combination with biochemical screening for monoclonal dyscrasia (serum free light chains and serum and urine electrophoresis) and/or histology (bone marrow trephine, fat or endomyocardial biopsy). More than 95% of CA can be classified as either amyloid light-chain (AL) CA or amyloid transthyretin (ATTR) CA; these two conditions have very different management strategies. AL-CA, which may be associated with multiple myeloma, can be managed with chemotherapy agents, autologous stem cell transplantation, cardiac transplant and supportive therapies. For ATTR-CA, there is increasing importance in making an early diagnosis because of novel treatments in development, which have transformed this once incurable disease to a potentially treatable disease. Timely diagnosis is crucial as there may only be a small window of opportunity where patients can benefit from treatment beyond which therapies may be less effective. Reviewing the existing patient pathway provides a basis to better understand the complexities of real-world activities which may be important to help reduce missed opportunities related to diagnosis and treatment for patients with CA. With healthcare provider interest in improving the care of patients with CA, the development of an optimal care pathway for the condition may help reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment and thus enhance patient outcomes.

BackgroundRotational atherectomy (RA) during percutaneous coronary intervention may cause transient bradycardia or a higher-degree heart block. Traditionally, some operators use prophylactic transvenous pacing wire (TPW) to avoid haemodynamic complications associated with bradycardia.ObjectiveWe sought to establish the frequency of bail-out need for emergency TPW insertion in patients undergoing RA that have received no upfront TPW insertion.MethodsWe performed a single-centre retrospective study of all patients undergoing RA between October 2009 and October 2022. Patient characteristics, procedural variables, and in-hospital complications were registered.ResultsA total of 331 patients who underwent RA procedure were analysed. No patients underwent prophylactic TPW insertion. The mean age was 73.3 ± 9.1 years, 71.6% (n = 237) were male, while nearly half of the patients were diabetic [N = 158 (47.7%)]. The right coronary artery was the most common target for RA (40.8%), followed by the left anterior descending (34.1%), left circumflex (14.8%), and left main stem artery (10.3%). Altogether 20 (6%) patients required intraprocedural atropine therapy. Emergency TPW insertion was needed in one (0.3%) patient only. Eight (2.4%) patients died, although only one (0.3%) was adjudicated as being possibly related to RA-induced bradycardia. Five patients (1.5%) had ventricular fibrillation arrest, while nine (2.7%) required cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Six (1.8%) procedures were complicated by coronary perforation, two (0.6%) were complicated by tamponade, while 17 (5.1%) patients experienced vascular access complications.ConclusionsBail-out transvenous temporary pacing is very rarely required during RA. A standby temporary pacing strategy seems reasonable and may avoid unnecessary TPW complications compared with routine use.

Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a major cause of mortality in patients with renal failure. We conducted a systematic review of the literature to evaluate the rates, predictors, and outcomes of GIB in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). A search of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed, and data were extracted from relevant studies. Statistical pooling was performed to determine the rate of GIB in patients with CKD, and a random-effect meta-analysis was performed to determine the predictors of GIB and mortality in patients with GIB. Twenty-two studies were included in this review, with 7,810,273 patients with CKD included in the analysis. The pooled results of five studies suggested that the rate of GIB in patients with CKD was 2.2%, and among the studies in which patients with CKD underwent endoscopy, the pooled results for GIB were 35.8%. Receipt of dialysis (OR 14.48, 95%CI 4.96–42.32), older age (OR 1.03, 95%CI 1.02–1.05), diabetes mellitus (OR 1.30, 95%CI 1.22–1.39), history of ulcers (OR 1.53, 95%CI 1.03–2.26), and cirrhosis (OR 1.73, 95%CI 1.41–2.12) were significantly associated with GIB. The pooled results suggest a twofold increase in the odds of mortality with GIB, with significant heterogeneity (OR 2.12, 95%CI 1.45–3.10, I2 = 93%). GIB in patients with CKD affects 2% of patients but can be greater in the group of patients who underwent endoscopy. Receipt of dialysis is a strong predictor of GIB, and sustained GIB is associated with a twofold increase in the odds of mortality compared to patients without GIB.

Non-human great apes – chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos, and orangutans – are threatened by agricultural expansion, particularly from rice, cacao, cassava, maize, and oil palm cultivation. Agriculture replaces and fragments great ape habitats, bringing them closer to humans and often resulting in conflict. Though the impact of agriculture on great apes is well-recognized, there is still a need for a more nuanced understanding of specific contexts and associated negative impacts on habitats and populations. Here we review these contexts and their implications for great apes. We estimate that within their African and South-East Asian ranges, there are about 100 people for each great ape. Given that most apes live outside strictly protected areas and the growing human population and increasing demand for resources in these landscapes, it will be challenging to balance the needs of both humans and great apes. This paper is the first to consider the impact of the establishment of the pilot free trade zone from the perspective of enterprise green innovation efficiency, providing a direct answer to the key question of whether the construction of the pilot free trade zone can truly serve the high-quality development of the economy in the new era, and enriching the theoretical research on the enterprise green innovation efficiency macro-drivers related theoretical research. In addition, this paper uses the super-efficient EBM-GML model to measure the level of green innovation efficiency of enterprises, on the basis of this, it adopts the multi-stage differences-in-differences method used to evaluate the impact of the establishment of the pilot free trade zone on the green innovation efficiency of enterprises. According to the benchmark regression results, the establishment of the pilot free trade zone has promoted the degree of green innovation efficiency of enterprises, and this promotion effect is sustainable. This conclusion was validated by robustness tests. Heterogeneity testing confirms that the pilot free trade zone has a significant influence on the green innovation efficiency of enterprises in heavy pollution industries, non-state-owned enterprises and patent-intensive enterprises. With the enhancement of environmental regulations, the green innovation efficiency of enterprises shows significant improvements. The analysis of the transmission mechanism shows that the pilot free trade zone influences the green innovation efficiency of enterprises primarily through the cost reduction effect, tax incentive effect, and reverse technology spillover effect. This study clarifies whether the policy of the pilot free trade zone can boost the green innovation efficiency of enterprises, and provides useful insight for further implementing the strategy of opening up to the world and promoting high-quality economic growth.

Coilia nasus is a precious migratory fish typical to the Yangtze River Basin of China. It is locally referred to as the "Three delicious fish of the Yangtze River, " with its fresh meat being particularly delicious and popular. In recent years, wild C. nasus numbers in the Yangtze River Basin have been decreasing due to environmental changes and illegal overfishing, among other reasons. To attenuate the availability of C. nasus, the Shanghai Fisheries Research Institute has successfully established an indoor artificial breeding and pond culture program in 2011. The research and development of C. nasus artificial breeding technologies have steadily progressed, though the artificial breeding yield of C. nasus remains relatively low. In addition, related research on the artificial cultivation of C. nasus is still in its infancy. Research on C. nasus in China and abroad mainly focuses on gonad development, breeding technology, muscle nutrient composition, and growth performance. No reports exist on the effects of brackish water culture conditions on the physiology of C. nasus. Given its economic importance, it would be of great value to evaluate the changes in the digestive, antioxidant, nonspecific immune capacity, and metabolic rates of C. nasus from brackish water (natural seawater in Hangzhou Bay, salinity 8.7~12.5) to freshwater aquaculture, to determine the breeding conditions of C. nasus, and to improve the artificial breeding yield and related technology. To investigate the differences in digestive capacity, antioxidant capacity, nonspecific immune capacity, and metabolic rates of C. nasus in brackish water and freshwater aquaculture conditions, the experiment adopted the pond interbreeding method. Two groups were established: A brackish aquaculture group and a freshwater aquaculture group (control group). Each group was housed in a single aquaculture pond with an area of 0.17 hm2. 500 C. nasus were stocked in each pond and moved to a Takifugu obscurus pond for a seven-month aquaculture experiment. At the end of the experiment, 12 C. nasus were randomly selected from each group and randomly divided into three replicates. Four C. nasus samples were selected from each replicate. The liver, intestine, stomach, and cecum of C. nasus were dissected on an ice plate and carefully removed to prepare a 10% homogenate. The activities of digestive enzymes, antioxidant enzymes, nonspecific immune enzymes, and metabolic enzymes and the total protein content were measured using a kit produced by the Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute. The activities of digestive enzymes, antioxidant enzymes, nonspecific immunity enzymes, and metabolic enzymes in brackish water and freshwater aquaculture environments were compared and analyzed in a seven-month aquaculture experiment using the same batch of artificially bred C. nasus. The growth and survival rates of C. nasus cultured in brackish water (hereafter referred to as brackish water C. nasus) were significantly higher than that in the freshwater (hereafter referred to as freshwater C. nasus) (P < 0.05). The digestive ability of protein and starch in brackish water C. nasus was higher than that of freshwater C. nasus, while the digestive ability was weakened. Among them, the activity of amylase (AMS) in the four organs of brackish water C. nasus was higher than those in freshwater, but not significantly so (P > 0.05). The activities of protease in the liver and stomach were significantly higher than those in freshwater C. nasus (P < 0.05), and the activities of lipase (LPS) in the liver and cecum were significantly lower than those in freshwater C. nasus (P < 0.05). The order of AMS and protease activity of brackish water C. nasus was: cecum > intestine > stomach > liver, while the order of LPS activity was intestine > cecum > stomach > liver. The order of AMS, protease, and LPS activity of freshwater C. nasus was: cecum > intestine > stomach > liver. Brackish water had significant effects on antioxidant, nonspecific immunity, and metabolic abilities, and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver of C. nasus were significantly increased, while the activity of catalase (CAT) was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). The activities of alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and acid phosphatase (ACP) in the liver of C. nasus in brackish water were significantly lower than those in freshwater (P < 0.05). Brackish water had no significant effect on the activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), but it significantly reduced the activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALT). In summary, brackish water aquaculture conditions promoted the growth of C. nasus; increased the survival rate; improved the ability of C. nasus to digest protein and starch; improved the immunity of fish; and reduced the influence of external stresses by decreasing the activities of AKP, ACP, and ALT enzymes and increasing the activities of SOD and GSH-PX enzymes. This study also found that C. nasus living in brackish water, as a result of maintaining the internal osmotic balance, significantly reduced ALT enzyme activity and reduced urea production and emission, thereby reducing the pollution of the direct environment. Therefore, brackish water is more suitable for the aquaculture of C. nasus, and it is recommended that brackish water (salinity of 8.7~12.5) be used for aquaculture of 1+ age C. nasus individuals in the future. The results of this study provide a scientific basis for the improvement of artificial breeding technology, improving the yield of C. nasus, and the development of special compound feed for C. nasus.

The problem of the low accuracy of Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) in diagnosing transformer faults is addressed by proposing an Improved Golden Jackal Optimization (IGJO) based Stochastic Configuration Network (SCN) method. The method of transformer fault diagnosis based on IGJO optimized SCN is proposed. Firstly, Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA) is used to reduce the dimensionality of the gas data and extract the effective feature quantities. Secondly, the L2 parametric penalty term is introduced into the SCN to improve the generalisation ability of SCN in practical applications. The elite backward learning and golden sine algorithms are incorporated into the golden jackal algorithm, and the IGJO performance is tested using 13 typical test functions, demonstrating that the IGJO has greater stability and merit-seeking capability. The penalty term coefficient C of the SCN is optimised using the IGJO to develop a transformer fault diagnosis model with an Improved Golden Jackal algorithm optimised Random Configuration Network (IGJO-SCN). Finally, the feature quantities extracted by KPCA are used as the input set of the model and the different transformer fault diagnosis models are simulated and validated. The results show that the IGJO-SCN has higher transformer fault diagnosis accuracy compared to other models.

Aircraft wake is a pair of counter-rotating vortices generated behind the aircraft, which can greatly impact the safety of fast takeoff and landing of aircraft and limit the improvement of airport capacity. The current wake parameter retrieval methods cannot locate the wake vortex's position and estimate its strength level in real time. To deal with this issue, a novel algorithm based on the YOLOv5s deep learning network is proposed. The new algorithm establishes a single vortex locating concept to adapt the wake vortex's evolution at complicate background wind field conditions, and proposes strength-based classification standard which can represent the real-time hazard of wake vortex to shorten the takeoff and landing intervals. Meanwhile, the EIOU loss function is introduced to improve the precision of YOLOv5s network. Compared with the state-of-the-art object detection approaches, such as Cascade R-CNN, FCOS, and YOLOv5l, the superiority of new method is demonstrated in terms of accuracy and robustness by using the field detection data from Hong Kong International Airport.

For engineering materials, it is important to search for strategies to enhance certain combinations of mechanical properties, because many performances, such as strength and toughness, are mutually exclusive. Effective strategies have evolved in the biological tissues of many plants and animals to construct composite materials with unique combinations of mechanical properties. One impressive example is found in the hammer-like appendages of mantis shrimp, which are exceptionally resistant to crushing because they must withstand the reaction forces created when attacking prey. In this paper, quasi-static compression tests, advanced microscopic observation, and spectroscopic analysis were employed to identify a series of characteristic changes, including changes in mineral composition and arrangement of chitin fibers, and the resulting toughening mechanisms are also examined. The combination of experiments and finite element analysis revealed that by combining different fiber arrangements and components in adjacent macroscopic layers, longitudinal stress could be shifted to the lateral direction, hence efficiently enhancing longitudinal compression resistance while avoiding catastrophic failure. Overall, these findings further the understanding of the fiber structure and toughening mechanism of appendages, which may serve as a foundation for the development of tough bioinspired composites.

Abstract Objective The present study aimed to observe the clinical efficacy of the external use of Qingluo San combined with diclofenac sodium double-release enteric capsules in the treatment of acute gouty arthritis (dampness–heat accumulation syndrome). Methods A total of 58 acute gouty arthritis patients were divided into two groups using the random number table method. Diclofenac sodium double-release enteric capsules were orally administered in the control group. Based on the treatment in the control group, the external use of Qingluo San was given in the treatment group, with 7-day course of treatment. The changes in visual analog scale (VAS) scores, the tenderness, swelling, and mobility function of the joint, and the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores before and after the treatment, at day 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7, were observed in both groups, together with the comparison of laboratory indicators (erythrocyte sedimentation rate, ESR; C-reactive protein, CRP; uric acid, UA). Results The total effective rate was 96.55% in the treatment group and 82.76% in the control group. After treatment, the VAS score, the tenderness, swelling and function scores of the joint, and the TCM syndrome scores decreased in both groups.
