The current 6-month follow-up study investigated 1) the relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at baseline (T1), trauma centrality and two types of cognitive emotion regulation (CER) at 3-month follow-up (T2), and psychiatric co-morbidity and posttraumatic growth (PTG) at 6-month follow-up (T3), 2) whether trauma centrality at T2 would mediate the impact of initial PTSD on psychiatric co-morbidity and PTG at T3, and 3) whether the two types of CER at T2 (i.e., adaptive CER and maladaptive CER) would respectively mediate the effect of initial PTSD on psychiatric co-morbidity and PTG at T3. Seven hundred and fifty-seven traumatized Chinese adolescents (Male = 400, Female = 357) from two secondary schools participated in the study and completed a demographic page, the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5, the Centrality of Events Scale, the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, the General Health Questionnaire-28, the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents. After controlling for demographic variables and academic stress, PTSD at baseline was positively associated with trauma centrality at T2, two types of CER at T2, and PTG at T3, but negatively related to psychiatric co-morbidity at T3. Trauma centrality at T2 did not mediate the impact of initial PTSD on psychiatric co-morbidity and PTG at T3. Both types of cognitive emotion regulation at T2 (i.e., adaptive CER and maladaptive CER) respectively mediated the effect of initial PTSD on PTG at T3 and but not that on psychiatric co-morbidity at T3. Following past trauma, Chinese adolescents might experience psychological distress as well as positive changes over time. These traumatic outcomes could be affected by adolescents' thinking patterns about trauma, as opposed to by their concept of self. Whilst child abuse experiences can often be found among prisoners, whether they would co-exist with emotional suppression to influence interpersonal sensitivity and psychiatric co-morbidity is unknown. 428 prisoners from three prisons in Anhui and Guangdong, China, were recruited from January to March 2020. They completed questionnaires measuring child abuse experiences, emotional suppression, interpersonal sensitivity and psychiatric co-morbidity. Latent profile analysis supported a three-profile solution: Profile one prisoners had the highest levels of child abuse with a tendency not to suppress distressing emotions (a high-abuse group). Profile two had the lowest levels of child abuse with a tendency to suppress emotions (a low-abuse group 1). Profile three prisoners were similar to Profile two except that the former experienced significantly higher physical and emotional abuse levels than did profile two (a low-abuse group 2). Profile one showed significantly higher levels of fragile inner self and depression than the other two profiles. They also reported significantly higher levels of interpersonal sensitivity and co-morbid psychiatric symptoms, except social dysfunction, than profile two individuals. Although non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a worldwide public health concern, the prevalence rate and risk factors for it among Chinese university students are not known. The present study aimed to address these knowledge gaps and examine the interrelationship between child abuse and NSSI frequency and functions as well as psychiatric co-morbidity with emotion dysregulation as a mediator and attachment style as a moderator. Five hundred and thirty-six (F = 359, M = 177) Chinese university students were recruited from two universities in Hong Kong and completed the Functional Assessment of Self-Mutilation, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Revised Adult Attachment Scale, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale and General Health Questionnaire-28. The findings showed that the prevalent rate of NSSI was 22% in the past year. The results showed that child abuse was significantly correlated with psychiatric co-morbidity and emotion dysregulation, and the latter was also significantly correlated with positive and negative reinforcement, and psychiatric co-morbidity. Moderation effects were not established. Non-suicidal self-injurious behaviour was relatively common among Chinese university students in Hong Kong. While individual parenting behaviors have been shown to account for adolescents' posttraumatic symptoms, no study has investigated whether parenting profiles can relate to posttraumatic symptoms among Chinese adolescents. This study aimed to identify parenting profiles using person-centered latent profile analysis and examine their associations with psychological distress. Nine hundred and fifty-four Chinese adolescents completed questionnaires measuring their perception of parental psychological control, behavioral control, autonomy granting, mother and father rejection, and psychological distress (PTSD and psychiatric co-morbidity). Among them, six hundred and ninety-nine had experienced trauma in the past and were included in the data analysis. Four parenting profiles were generated: controlling-rejecting (lower level), autonomous-accepting, undifferentiated and controlling-rejecting (higher level). Undifferentiated parenting was the dominant profile. Adolescents who had parents with the autonomous-accepting parenting profile showed the least distress, while those with the controlling-rejecting (higher level) profile showed the most. Following trauma, adolescents can develop posttraumatic distress, the level of which can vary depending on different perceived parenting styles. The link between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from past trauma, eating disorders, and psychiatric co-morbidity has been established. Whether self-concealment could influence these distress outcomes among traumatised Emirati university female students remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether the co-existing profiles of PTSD and self-concealment could impact eating disorder and psychiatric co-morbidity among female Emirati students. Using a convenience sampling method, the research was made known to students studying at a university in the United Arab Emirates. Four hundred and twenty-one female students completed questionnaires measuring PTSD, self-concealment, eating attitudes, and psychiatric co-morbidity in class. Latent profile analysis and multivariate analysis of variance were used respectively to identify the profiles for students and examine the differences between profile groups in distress outcomes. 38% met the criteria for PTSD. Using Latent Profile Analysis, profile 1 (moderate PTSD and self-concealment with high avoidance) had moderate PTSD symptoms with a high level of avoidance, and a moderate level of self-concealment. Profile 2 (moderate PTSD and self-concealment with low avoidance) had moderate PTSD symptoms with a low level of avoidance, and a similar level of self-concealment to profile 1. Profiles 3 (low PTSD group) and 4 (high PTSD group) had the lowest and highest levels of PTSD symptoms and self-concealment, respectively. Profile 4 showed significantly higher eating disorder symptoms compared to profile 3, and higher levels of psychiatric co-morbidity than the other three profiles. This study explores psychological trauma as a reason for computer game addiction among adolescents. The findings of this study show that there is a connection between psychological trauma and computer game addiction. Some psychologists note that the main cause of any type of addiction derives from psychological trauma, and that finding such underlying causes can help understand the particular need to gamble. The strong connection between computer game addiction and psychological trauma shown in this study can have a significant impact on adolescents' personal growth.

Introduction: Past research focusing on Western samples has demonstrated that heterosexist harassment, rejection, and discrimination (HHRD) were associated with psychological problems. How and when this relation would occur, however, remains unclear, especially for understudied Chinese sexual minorities. Method: A convenience sample of 1,453 Chinese lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals aged 18–50 participated in this study. They provided demographic information and completed measures of HHRD, internalised homophobia, perceived parental support for sexual orientation, anxiety, and depression. Structural equation modelling was conducted for data analyses. Results: Internalised homophobia partially accounted for the positive relation between HHRD and psychological problems (i.e. anxiety and depression). The indirect effect of HHRD on psychological problems through internalised homophobia was smaller when Chinese LGB persons had higher levels of perceived parental support for sexual orientation. Conclusions: Internalised homophobia might be an underlying mechanism for the relation between HHRD and psychological problems, and perceived parental support for sexual orientation may play a critical role in disrupting the pathway from HHRD to psychological problems through internalised homophobia. Introduction: Diabetes is a significant health problem amongst people with intellectual disabilities, yet there is a lack of qualitative literature looking specifically at their experiences and perceptions of living with this chronic illness. Method: Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, this study explored the experiences and perceptions of four people with intellectual disabilities and diabetes. Results: Results showed that participants demonstrated some knowledge of the language surrounding diabetes, but considerable confusion and uncertainty about their illness. The impact of diabetes was described in terms of physical, emotional and social consequences, and participants spoke of diabetes in the context of co-existing health problems. Conclusions: People with intellectual disabilities and diabetes face many challenges when perceiving and coping with their illness. Gaining insight into these challenges could help health professionals work together more effectively and provide appropriate support to people with intellectual disabilities and diabetes.

Background: The present research extended previous research by broadening the dimensions of personality traits, and focusing on burnout and psychological well-being among staff working with people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviour. Methods: This is a cross-sectional survey in which 103 staff completed questionnaires measuring clients' challenging behaviour according to staff perception, as well as staff burnout, psychological well-being and personality traits. Results: Regression analyses showed that staff perception of challenging behaviour predicted burnout. Controlling for challenging behaviour, three personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion and conscientiousness) predicted burnout and psychological well-being. Conclusions: Personality traits can affect the degree of burnout and poor psychological well-being that staff may experience. Staff should be informed about the role that their personality traits can play in their well-being. Training programmes for staff should incorporate the complex relationship between personality traits and well-being. Further studies should aim at identifying other personality traits that could increase or decrease resilience of staff working in this area.
