In order to explore the effect of benzothiadiazole (BTH) treatment on amino acid accumulation, degradation and metabolism during the growth of grape fruits, ‘Chardonnay’ grape berries at veraison were sprayed with BTH at 50 mg/L and plucked once every 10 d from the next day (60 d after flowering) until maturity (110 d after flowering). The contents of glucose, fructose, sucrose, organic acids and amino acids, as well as enzyme activities related to amino acid degradation and metabolism and the resulting aroma products were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), an automatic amino acid analyzer and solid phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS). The results showed that glutamic acid, arginine and proline were the major amino acids in ‘Chardonnay’ grape. BTH treatment promoted the accumulation of amino acids, inhibited the production of glucose, fructose and sucrose, increased the contents of tartaric acid and citric acid, and reduced the content of malic acid in mature grapes. Moreover, BTH treatment inhibited the production of free branched aliphatic aroma compounds, and enhanced the activities of aminotransferase (AT), alcohol acyltransferase (AAT), and pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC). Meanwhile, it changed the correlation between total amino acids and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity, and the correlation between AT and AAT activity and monosaccharides and organic acids content, which in turn affected the production of aroma substances from amino acid metabolism. These results provide theoretical guidance and a practical basis for the application of BTH in controlling grape quality.

Abstract Background and objective While the connection between the Triglyceride glucose-waist circumference (TyG-WC) index and the risk of diabetes remains understudied, this particular research delves into the potential predictive value of the TyG-WC index within a significant Japanese population. Methods This retrospective cohort study encompassed a comprehensive analysis of 15,413 Japanese adults, all of whom were diabetes-free at the outset of the study period from 2004 to 2015. Comprehensive medical records were obtained for all participants who underwent physical examinations. The study employed Cox proportional-hazards regression, smooth curve fitting, various sensitivity, and subgroup analyses to explore the association between TyG-WC and the development of diabetes. Furthermore, a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was created to detect the predictive capability of TyG-WC for diabetes risk. Results After a maximum of 13.0 years of follow-up, 358 people finally developed diabetes. Upon adjusting for covariates, the result showed TyG-WC was positively and independently associated with incident Diabetes Mellitus (DM) (Hazard Ratio (HR): 1.004, 95%C: 1.001–1.006). Furthermore, ROC curve analysis demonstrated that TyG-WC outperformed both the triglycerides-glucose index and triglyceride glucose-body mass index in predicting the onset of diabetes. Conclusion High levels of TyG-WC are autonomously linked to a heightened risk of diabetes in the Japanese demographic, indicating its potential as a dependable predictive indicator for diabetes mellitus in individuals at elevated risk.

BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent and fatal cancers globally, with poor prognosis due to late-stage diagnosis and limited early detection methods. GSTP1 gene hypermethylation has been implicated in various cancers, including HCC, as a potential biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic strategies. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the association between GSTP1 hypermethylation and HCC, and its clinical significance.MethodsA comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library to identify studies examining GSTP1 hypermethylation in HCC. Studies included in the meta-analysis were observational (case-control, cohort) or experimental studies (clinical trials) that reported on the correlation between GSTP1 hypermethylation and clinical outcomes in HCC patients. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and weighted mean differences (WMDs) were calculated using random or fixed-effects models based on heterogeneity.ResultsA total of 10 case-control studies were included, comprising 1,133 participants. The analysis revealed a significant association between GSTP1 hypermethylation and the presence of HCC (OR = 6.64, 95% CI: 2.17–20.38). GSTP1 hypermethylation was more frequently observed in liver cancer tissue compared to liver tissue from patients with other diseases (P < 0.00001). Additionally, a significant correlation between GSTP1 hypermethylation and poor clinical outcomes, such as advanced tumor stage, recurrence, and reduced overall survival, was observed (OR = 2.56, 95% CI: 1.80–3.64). Subgroup analyses based on study design, sample type, and detection method showed no significant heterogeneity in most comparisons.ConclusionGSTP1 hypermethylation is significantly associated with the presence of HCC and poorer clinical outcomes, making it a promising biomarker for early diagnosis and prognosis. These findings highlight the potential for GSTP1 methylation as a diagnostic and prognostic tool in HCC management. Further large-scale, multicenter studies are required to standardize detection methods and evaluate the therapeutic potential of epigenetic reactivation of GSTP1 in HCC patients.

BackgroundAs a state of metabolic and nutritional derangements, protein-energy wasting (PEW) is highly prevalent and associated with increased morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) and Klotho have been proven to contribute to chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Previous evidence suggested that FGF-23 and Klotho may also contribute to the malnutritional status among these patients; however, the inter-relationship between the FGF-23–Klotho axis and PEW remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted this cross-sectional study to evaluate the association between plasma FGF-23 and Klotho levels and PEW in hemodialysis patients and to explore whether these markers could predict the presence of PEW.MethodsPlasma concentrations of FGF-23 and Klotho were measured, and their associations with PEW were assessed. PEW was evaluated based on body weight, muscle mass, biochemical data, and protein and energy intake, according to the 2008 criteria from the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ISRNM).ResultsIn this study, 147 hemodialysis patients (mean age 61.05 ± 13.32 years) were enrolled, of whom 66 (44.90%) had PEW. Recent studies found that the intestinal flora is involved in the occurrence and development of CRC. In particular, Ruminococcus shows a decreased abundance in patients with CRC and can affect gastrointestinal health through cross-feeding and promoting butyrate production. Although the research on Ruminococcus is gradually increasing, no unified understanding of its influence on the occurrence and development of CRC has been established. This work summarizes the relationship of Ruminococcus with CRC and its possible anticancer mechanism to provide a theoretical basis for the further exploration of biological prevention and treatment of CRC in the future.

IntroductionNon-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) constitutes approximately 80–85% of cancer-related fatalities globally, and direct and indirect comparisons of various therapies for NSCLC are lacking. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutated NSCLC.MethodsThe electronic databases were systematically searched from inception until March 18, 2024. Studies comparing two or more treatments involving ICIs in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC were included. The primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoints were overall response rate (ORR), any grade adverse events (AEs), grade ≥3 AEs, and AEs requiring treatment discontinuation. The R software with the gemtc package was used to compare the outcomes of the different treatments.ResultsIn 11 eligible studies involving 1462 patients and 5 regimens (chemotherapy [chemo], ICI, ICI+chemo, antiangiogenesis+chemo, and ICI+antiangiogenesis+chemo), ICI+antiangiogenesis+chemo achieved the most favorable OS compared to chemo (HR=0.74, 95% CI 0.41–1.23), ICI+chemo (HR=0.94, 95% CI 0.57–1.46), and ICI (HR=0.58, 95% CI 0.27–1.08) and a nearly equivalent effect to antiangiogenesis+chemo (HR=1.01, 95% CI 0.52–1.92). The PFS and ORR results were similar to those of OS. ICI monotherapy exhibited the lowest toxicity profile.ConclusionsThese findings indicate that ICI+antiangiogenesis+chemo may be potentially beneficial for patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC. IntroductionUnder the impacts of high intensity human activities, mangrove natural protected areas are pivotal strategies for biodiversity conservation and play a significant role in preserving bird diversity. Mangrove natural protected areas in Guangdong Province, China, lie along the migratory path of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, serving as breeding, feeding, and resting grounds for birds. Variations in bird responses to environmental factors are significant.MethodsTo comprehensively understand these variances, redundancy analysis was employed, focusing on bird diversity surveys conducted from March 2022 to February 2023 in natural protected areas of Guangdong to examine how driving factors such as mangrove habitat landscape, community structure, water quality, and soil sedimentation affected the diversity of avian species.ResultsThe findings were as follows: (1) A total of 193 bird species spanning 17 orders and 53 families were documented, including 74 songbirds, 60 wading birds, 27 swimming birds, 17 climbing birds, 10 raptors, and 5 terrestrial birds. (2) Regarding the impact of simple effects on all bird species, aquaculture pond area, mangrove extent, and mudflat area emerged as significant factors driving bird diversity, with explanatory rates of 31.0%, 28.9%, and 20.3%, respectively. Notably, the aquaculture pond area was the main driver of bird diversity, with an explanatory rate of 31.0%. (3) Mangrove extent has emerged as a pivotal factor shaping the songbird diversity, climbing birds, raptors, and terrestrial birds, whereas the aquaculture pond area was pivotal for wading birds, swimming birds, and others.DiscussionTo enhance mangrove bird diversity protection, management agencies overseeing natural mangrove protected areas should adopt science-based approaches when managing mangrove, mudflats, and aquaculture pond areas in mangrove forest protection and restoration plans. This would prevent extensive mangrove planting, which encroaches on non-mangrove habitats. Additionally, the scientific management of aquaculture ponds should accommodate diverse bird habitats through measures, such as water level adjustments.

IntroductionMultiple factors, including human disturbance and environmental change, have caused a significant global mangrove resource loss. Therefore, the Chinese government has restructured mangrove habitats and restored the ecosystem functionality through establishing naturally protected mangrove areas. Despite efforts spanning several years, over 90% of mangrove forests in China have been now integrated into the natural protected area system, with the health status and influencing factors of mangrove ecosystem remaining a pertinent subject for further exploration. Given the intricacies of mangrove ecosystems with complex nonlinear relationships among evaluation factors, it is imperative to adopt scientific methodologies to assess their health status.MethodsTo illustrate this, we conducted a mangrove ecosystem health assessment of natural protected areas of Guangdong Province, China. By employing a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and establishing an index system for mangrove ecosystem health assessment.ResultsThe results revealed the following findings. (1) Various factors exert differing degrees of influence on mangrove ecosystem health. Notably, the mangrove habitat pattern (weight 47.95%), bird diversity (weight 20.97%), mangrove community (weight 14.31%), water environment (weight 11.76%), and soil sedimentary environment (weight 5.01%) were identified. (2) Overall, the mangrove ecosystem within protected areas of Guangdong exhibited unhealthy signs. There were 4 healthy protected areas (20.00%), 4 areas classified as sub-healthy (20.00%), and 12 were deemed unhealthy (60.00%). (3) Key factors contributing to the compromised health of mangrove ecosystems included the homogenization of mangrove plants, decreased habitat diversity, and exogenous pollution.DiscussionBy planting local mangrove species, scientifically managing the ratio of mangrove cover area to mudflat area, and controlling pollution sources and treating pollutants, the structure of the mangrove ecosystem can be optimized, and the quality of mangrove forest can be improved. These findings can enhance mangrove ecosystem management practices, assist mangrove natural reserve managers in performing targeted mangrove ecological protection and restoration, promote effective management, and contribute to the realization of “harmonious symbiosis” between humanity and nature within mangrove ecosystems.

Growing evidence has suggested a strong link between gut microbiota and host fitness, yet our understanding of the assembly mechanisms governing gut microbiota remains limited. Here, we collected invasive and native freshwater snails coexisting at four independent sites in Guangdong, China. We used high-throughput sequencing to study the assembly processes of their gut microbiota. Our results revealed significant differences in the diversity and composition of gut microbiota between invasive and native snails. Specifically, the gut microbiota of invasive snails exhibited lower alpha diversity and fewer enriched bacteria, with a significant phylogenetic signal identified in the microbes that were enriched or depleted. Both the phylogenetic normalized stochasticity ratio (pNST) and the phylogenetic-bin-based null model analysis (iCAMP) showed that the assembly process of gut microbiota in invasive snails was more deterministic compared with that in native snails, primarily driven by homogeneous selection. The linear mixed-effects model revealed a significant negative correlation between deterministic processes (homogeneous selection) and alpha diversity of snail gut microbiota, especially where phylogenetic diversity explained the most variance. This indicates that homogeneous selection acts as a filter by the host for specific microbial lineages, constraining the diversity of gut microbiota in invasive freshwater snails. Overall, our study suggests that deterministic assembly-mediated lineage filtering is a potential mechanism for maintaining the diversity of gut microbiota in freshwater snails.

Abstract Background Adaptive immunity is an important disease mediator of pulmonary vascular remodeling during pulmonary hypertension (PH) development, especially T‐cells lymphocytes. However, data for bibliometric analysis of T cell immunity in PH is currently vacant. This aimed to provide a comprehensive and visualized view of T‐cells research in PH pathogenesis and to lay a solid foundation for further studies. Methods The data was acquired from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Web of Science analytic tool was used to analysis the publication years, authors, journals, countries, and organizations. CiteSpace 6.2.R3, VOSviewer 1.6.16, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.35.0 were applied to conduct a visualization bibliometric analysis about authors, countries, institutions, journals, references, and keywords. Results Nine hundred and eight publications from 1992 to 2022 were included in the analysis. The results showed that Humbert Marc was the most prolific author. American Journal of Physiology Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology had the most related articles. The institution with the most articles was Udice French Research University. The United States was far ahead in the article output. Keywords analysis showed that “Pulmonary hypertension” was the most usually appeared keyword in the relevant literature, and included “T‐cells”, “Regulatory T cells”, and “Activated T cell.” “miRNA” of reference co‐citation clustering analysis demonstrated the possible T‐cell immunity activation mechanisms in PH. The most cited literature was published in the European Heart Journal by Galie N in 2016. The strongest citation burst of keyword is “gene expression” and terms such as “vascular remodeling,” “growth,” “proliferation,” and “fibrosis” are among the list, indicating that T‐cells interact with stromal vascular cells to induce pulmonary vascular remodeling. The strongest burst of cited reference is “Galie N, 2016.” Conclusions T‐cell immunity is an important pathogenesis mechanism for PH development, which may have interaction with miRNAs and stromal vascular cells, but the possible T‐cell immunity activation mechanisms in PH need to be investigated further.

This essay aims to comparatively study the microscopic morphology and grinding properties of brazed diamonds with amorphous and crystalline filler alloy in the case of rare-earth Nd-doped modified Ni-based filler alloy. The results show that at the same content of Nd, Cr7C3 is mainly generated at the brazing interface of crystalline samples. In contrast, Cr27C6 is mainly generated at the brazing interface of amorphous samples. Amorphous solder material achieves a robust chemical metallurgical union, producing a dense and homogeneous carbide layer. The bonding strength between amorphous solder material and diamond is further enhanced. The addition of rare earth element Nd contributes greatly to the forming ability of amorphous filler alloy. Nd atoms in the amorphous solder material readily bond with Ni atoms, reducing the chemical corrosion of Ni atoms on diamonds and resulting in a lower degree of graphitization. When the amount of Nd added is 1.0 wt%, the morphology of amorphous filler alloy brazing diamond is more complete than the effect of the crystalline state, the degree of thermal damage is lower, and the surface of amorphous filler alloy brazing is smoother. Frictional wear experiments show that the amorphous filler alloy holds diamond better than the crystalline filler alloy, and the diamond specimens prepared with the amorphous filler alloy demonstrate a significantly superior grinding performance in comparison to the diamond specimens prepared with the crystalline filler alloy.

Abstract Pomacea canaliculata was by far one of the most harmful invasive organisms in the world, causing serious harm to aquatic crops and ecosystem. Calcium carbonate is a common component of aquatic environment, which is important for the growth of Pomacea canaliculata. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the response characteristics of P. canaliculata suffered shell breakage to the addition of calcium carbonate in water environment. In this experiment, we explored the effects of calcium carbonate addition on the P. canaliculata shell repair rate, food intake, egg production, shell strength, and calcium content through breaking the snails shell and the addition of calcium carbonate treatment. The results showed that snail broken-shell repaired mostly within 21 days. The snails experienced a significant increase in shell repair rates during earlier days of the treatment, especially for female snails. Food intake of snails exhibited different patterns when their shells were broken and calcium carbonate was added. Shell breakage treatment combined with calcium carbonate addition significantly increased the diameter of snail eggs compared with the control and the calcium carbonate addition treatment without shell-broken snail group. There was no significant difference in shell strength or calcium content of male snails between the treatments. The study suggests that P. canaliculata exhibits a sex-dependent response pattern when subjected to shell damage and calcium carbonate addition. The findings can provide some references to better understand the invasion mechanism and survival strategy of the P. canaliculata.

The accurate detection of multiplex collagen biomarkers is vital for diagnosing and treating various critical diseases such as tumors and fibrosis. Despite the attractive optical properties of quantum dots (QDs), it remains technically challenging to create stable and specific QDs-based probes for multiplex biological imaging. We report for the first time the construction of multi-color QDs-based peptide probes for the simultaneous fingerprinting of multiplex collagen biomarkers in connective tissues. A bipeptide system composed of a glutathione (GSH) host peptide and a collagen-targeting guest peptide (CTP) has been developed, yielding CTP-QDs probes that exhibit exceptional luminescence stability when exposed to ultraviolet irradiation and mildly acidic conditions. The versatile bipeptide system allows for facile one-pot synthesis of high-quality multicolor CTP-QDs probes, exhibiting superior selectivity in targeting critical collagen biomarkers including denatured collagen, type I collagen, type II collagen, and type IV collagen. The multicolor CTP-QDs probes have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in simultaneously fingerprinting multiple collagen types in diverse connective tissues, irrespective of their status, whether affected by injury, diseases, or undergoing remodeling processes. The innovative multicolor CTP-QDs probes offer a robust toolkit for the multiplex fingerprinting of the collagen suprafamily, demonstrating significant potential in the diagnosis and treatment of collagen-related diseases.

Background To make the question text represent more information and construct an end-to-end text clustering model, we propose a double-target self-supervised clustering with multi-feature fusion (MF-DSC) for texts which describe questions related to the medical field. Since medical question-and-answer data are unstructured texts and characterized by short characters and irregular language use, the features extracted by a single model cannot fully characterize the text content. Methods Firstly, word weights were obtained based on term frequency, and word vectors were generated according to lexical semantic information. Then we fused term frequency and lexical semantics to obtain weighted word vectors, which were used as input to the model for deep learning. Meanwhile, a self-attention mechanism was introduced to calculate the weight of each word in the question text, i.e., the interactions between words. To learn fusing cross-document topic features and build an end-to-end text clustering model, two target functions, L cluster and L topic, were constructed and integrated to a unified clustering framework, which also helped to learn a friendly representation that facilitates text clustering. After that, we conducted comparison experiments with five other models to verify the effectiveness of MF-DSC. Results The MF-DSC outperformed other models in normalized mutual information (NMI), adjusted Rand indicator (ARI) average clustering accuracy (ACC) and F1 with 0.4346, 0.4934, 0.8649 and 0.5737, respectively.

In this work, a non-targeted metabolomic study was performed on the ultrafine whole pulp of Lactobacillus-fermented Chimonobambusa quadrangularis shoot using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS). Based on the variable importance in projection (VIP) > 1 and P < 0.05 in t-test, 361, 392 and 398 differential metabolites were selected in raw (control) versus Limosilactobacillus reuteri (LR) fermented samples, control versus Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) fermented samples, and control and LR + LP (LRP) fermented samples in the positive ion mode; and 268, 304 and 321 differential metabolites in the negative ion mode, respectively. The major differential metabolites were lipids and lipid-like compounds, organic acids and their derivatives, organic heterocyclic compounds, and benzenes including histamine, D-mannan, indole-3-lactic acid, DL-4-hydroxyphenyl lactate, ornithine, and proline. Four significant metabolic pathways were identified by Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes metabolic pathway enrichment analysis, namely purine metabolism, pyrimidine metabolism and phenylalanine metabolism and citric acid cycle. This study provides theoretical support for the development of fermented bamboo shoot products.

Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a rare and aggressive subtype of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is characterized by poor differentiation and invasiveness. According to the World Health Organization, PSC exhibits sarcoma or sarcomatoid differentiation and typically presents with an insidious onset, lacking specific symptoms and signs. It is associated with high malignancy, early metastasis, short survival time, and a poor prognosis. Treatment for PSC follows a similar approach to NSCLC; however, it presents significant challenges due to its high resistance to chemotherapy. Previous research has demonstrated the coexistence of two or more target mutations in PSC, and the presence of multiple mutations is correlated with higher mortality rates compared to single mutations. This is supported by our case study of a male patient with advanced BUBIB-ALK rearrangement and KRAS G12C missense mutation. There is currently no standard treatment protocol available for patients with this condition. The patient showed rapid progression after 1 month of alectinib treatment and was intolerant to paclitaxel + cisplatin chemotherapy. Following this, successful disease control was achieved with a combination therapy of sintilimab and anlotinib. The patient achieved a progression-free survival (PFS) of over 20 months, and long-term follow-up is still ongoing for the patient. Based on our clinical experience, the combination of anlotinib and programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors may be a promising strategy for PSC patients, particularly those with multi-target mutations who do not respond to ALK-TKI and are resistant to chemotherapy.

Abstract Objective The study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of mucosal immunity in IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and indicate its current status, hot sopts, and direction of future studies. Methods The literature data was collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace 6.1.R3 was employed to conduct a visualization bibliometric analysis of mucosal immunity in IgA nephropathy, including authors, countries, journals, keywords, organizations, references, the bursts of keywords and references, and the timeline of keyword clusters and reference clusters. Results A total of 315 publications from 1990 to 2022 were included. The number of articles in this field has increased in recent years. Suzuki H, Coppo R, and Feehally J took the first place parallelly with 18 articles. Japan contributes the most articles, accounting for 27.3% of all the publications. The institutions with the most publications were Juntendo University and University of Alabama Birmingham. 453 keywords were concluded in the analysis, which mainly focus on the mucosal pathogenesis and therapy of the IgAN. The top five co‐cited reference cluster are “aberrantly glycosylated IgA,” “corticosteroids,” “animal models,” “o‐glycosylationm” and “microRNA‐630.” The most recently burst of keyword is “tonsillectomy” and “gut.” Conclusion This was the first bibliometric analysis to systematically analyze the mucosal immunity in IgAN, which obtained the current status and indicated the future research hotspots and development trends. The gut microbiota and the related therapy‐targeted mucosal immunity might be the future research hotspot.

BackgroundImmune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-associated cardiotoxicity is a relatively uncommon immune-related adverse effects (irAEs) with a high mortality rate. There are few recommendations for the replacement of different immune checkpoint inhibitors in domestic and international reports.Case presentationWe report a case of a patient with squamous non-small cell lung carcinoma (squamous NSCLC) who developed cardiotoxicity after being treated with a programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor and then changed to a PD-L1 inhibitor to continue the treatment. A significant benefit was observed after four cycles of immunotherapy, and no further cardiotoxicity occurred after the treatment was started.ConclusionThis case demonstrates that myocardial damage induced by tislelizumab (PD-1 inhibitor) can be improved after switching to sugemalimab (PD-L1 inhibitor) and that antitumor immunotherapy is effective. This result may have important implications for optimizing immunotherapy management regimens in cancer patients.

The stability of contemporary ice shelves is under threat due to global warming, and the geological records in the Ross Sea offer such an opportunity to test the linkage between them. However, the absence of calcareous microfossils in the sediments of the Ross Sea results in uncertainties in establishing a precise chronology for studies. Hence, three sediment cores were collected and studied in terms of radiocarbon dating, magnetic susceptibility, and sediment grain size to reconstruct the environmental processes in the Ross Sea since the last glacial period. The main results are as follows: (1) two grain-size components were identified for the studied cores, which can be correlated to ice-shelf and sea-ice transport, respectively; (2) due to old-carbon contamination and an inconsistent carbon reservoir, the radiocarbon dates were generally underestimated, and as an alternative, changes in magnetic susceptibility of the studied cores can be tuned to the ice-core records to establish a reliable age–depth model and; (3) integrating sediment grain-size changes and comparisons with other paleoenvironmental proxies in the Antarctic, a process from a sub-ice sheet in the last glacial period to a sub-ice shelf in the glacial maximum, and, finally, to a glaciomarine state since the last deglacial period was identified in the western Ross Sea. Integrating these findings, the warming processes in the Antarctic were highlighted in the retreat processes of the Ross Ice Shelf in the past.
