Abstract

We investigate the cross-interactions in a two-component polariton quantum fluid coherently driven by two independent pumping lasers tuned at different energies and momenta. We show that both the hysteresis cycles and the ON/OFF threshold of one polariton signal can be entirely controlled by a second polariton fluid. Furthermore, we study the ultrafast switching dynamics of a driven polariton state, demonstrating the ability to control the polariton population with an external laser pulse, in less than a few picoseconds.

Abstract

We investigated CdTe nanocrystal tetrapods of different sizes by resonant inelastic light scattering at room temperature and under cryogenic conditions. We observe a strongly resonant behavior of the phonon scattering with the excitonic structure of the tetrapods. Under resonant conditions we detect a set of phonon modes that can be understood as confined longitudinal-optical phonons, surface-optical phonons, and transverse-optical phonons in a nanowire picture., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We report on a new class of hybrid electronic devices based on a DNA nucleoside (deoxyguanosine lipophilic derivative) whose assembled polymeric ribbons interconnect a submicron metallic gate. The device exhibits large conductivity at room temperature, rectifying behaviour and strong current-voltage hysteresis. The transport mechanism through the molecules is investigated by comparing films with different self-assembling morphology. We found that the main transport mechanism is connected to pi-pi interactions between guanosine molecules in adjacent ribbons, consistently with the results of our first-principles calculations., Comment: Submitted to Phys. Abstract

We present a combined theoretical and experimental study of the anisotropy in the optical absorption of V-shaped quantum wires. By means of realistic band structure calculations for these structures, we show that detailed information on the heavy- and light-hole states can be singled out from the anisotropy spectra {\em independently of the electron confinement}, thus allowing accurate valence band spectroscopy., Comment: To be published in Appl. Abstract

Abstract We describe the design and optimization of a reliable strategy that combines self-assembly and lithographic techniques, leading to very precise micro-/nanopositioning of biomolecules for the realization of micro- and nanoarrays of functional DNA and antibodies. Moreover, based on the covalent immobilization of stable and versatile SAMs of programmable chemical reactivity, this approach constitutes a general platform for the parallel site-specific deposition of a wide range of molecules such as organic fluorophores and water-soluble colloidal nanocrystals.

Abstract

A joint theoretical-experimental study on the optical properties of 5-N-succinimidyl-2.2 -bithiophene (NS-2T), a prototype system for a new class of biomarkers was conducted, and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and approximate coupled-cluster single and doubles (CC2) calculations were performed in the ground and excited states. Results showed that CC2 and TD-DFT can very well describe the absorption and photoluminescence energies of the three systems, but the presence of several charge-transfer transitions in the TD-DFT spectrum of NS-2T required the use of a correlated method to validate the TD-DFT results.

Abstract

Singlet and triplet excitation energies in oligothiophenes are analyzed using time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) with different exchange-correlation functionals. TD-DFT methods underestimate photoluminescence energies but the energy difference between singlet and triplet states shows a trends with the chain-length similar to coupled-cluster singles and doubles model (CC2).
