It depends on two different field studies. In 2017, for my doctoral study, I listened to the life stories of women living in this neighborhood. A significant proportion of the first-generation women have limited urban experience although three decades has passed since their settlement. They have not yet been to many important locations, is considerable. In the second fieldwork I conducted in 2019, I interviewed ten women about their urban experiences at home and observed their daily activities. At this stage, I identified the urban spaces that they had not visited yet, and then I visited these places with the women. In the second interview I held after a while, I asked the women to describe their experiences of the place. In this research, I analyze the effects of economic constraints, participation in business life, having children, having urban experience, losing familiarity in the neighborhood, living within the borders of the home and working informally on women's mobility. I follow each theme through a woman's life story and mobility narration. The epistemological and methodological implications of complexity theory for understanding urban sprawl are discussed. It is argued that urban spatial forms, such as sprawl, emerge from nonlinear, self-organizational, and dynamic urban processes. Because of this, there cannot be a universal theory of sprawl and each case should be investigated within its context. The micro-macro problem provides the conceptual grounding for these investigations. Agent-based simulations can be used to investigate the micro-macro transformations in urban systems. However, it is not an easy task for the Hong Kong Government to prepare welcome urban renewal proposals because the citizens, professionals and other concerned parties have their own expectations which are difficult to be addressed all at the same time. Although it is impossible to satisfy all stakeholders concerning urban renewal, it is preferable to have proposals conforming to the interests of the majority and beneficial to the present and future generations. This paper adopts the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to work out the most sustainable design proposal for an area undergoing urban renewal. AHP is a robust multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method for solving social, governmental and corporate decision problems. Since there is a lack of published papers demonstrating a systematic and effective way for urban renewal proposal assessment, this paper attempts to fill this gap with the help of AHP. Research on interethnic relationships in urban neighbourhoods tends to focus on how the `they' in a `we/they' divide along ethnic lines is constructed. This article argues that such research often takes the `we' for granted. The result is a slightly homogeneous picture of the native residents, as if they form one single group with an attitude towards migrants that can be explained en bloc. Dissecting an empirical complex picture of how native Dutch residents develop relationships with migrant neighbours, a case study of a Rotterdam neighbourhood is used to show that four routes to discriminatory vocabulary can be distinguished. By way of discussing these four routes, the article argues that the different theoretical perspectives should not be seen as an either/or choice, but that they need to be combined. In many accounts of racism and discrimination, the nuances within politically incorrect, discriminatory vocabulary are insufficiently stressed. These nuances, it is argued, relate to different sorts of conflict that need to be theorized.

Chinese cities have experienced unprecedented growth and restructuring during the reform period. This study by two geographers examines the rapid growth of urban population in the relatively typical large city of Hangzhou (one of China's historical capitals), and investigates underlying factors by highlighting the significance of reforms and globalization in the growth of Chinese cities. The authors also discuss problems that Hangzhou (currently with ca. 4 million inhabitants) faces in coping with rapid urban growth and restructuring. They argue that 'control' and 'management' approaches to urban growth have limitations in China's transitional cities, and that the gradual process of reform is incompatible with the nature of urban planning in China. This article presents a model of urban and central employment, taking into account fluctuations in sectoral movements. Results reveal little feedback between suburban and central city employment; the most significant influence comes from local shocks of supply and/or demand.

Ethnographic research techniques such as participant observation and formal and informal interviews were used to study the meaning of city living for Turkish women as well the as role of women in the migration process and their life-establishment in the city. Turkish peasant women were found to have a strong preference for city living. Their initiative, hard work, and struggles which brought positive changes on their city-life were noted.

This article reopens the classic debate about the relationship between the city and the countryside in medieval/Renaissance Italy. It examines city-countryside relations in Siena in the second half of the fourteenth century and compares them with what we know of Siena's northern neighbor, Florence. It argues that Sienese policy was moderate and even-handed and, despite similar pressures, less harsh than that of the Florentines. The difference is explained by the fact that Siena was economically far less potent and thus ever mindful that its own fate was intrinsically linked with that of the countryside.

Mass media overdoses, consumer overkill, fear of crime and madness now combine for a cynical portrait of the American home that could be anything anywhere to anybody. The safe, idyllic small home town of an innocent past is gone.

Comparing home towns of Neffsville, Pennsylvania and Hopeville, Virginia reveals the cultural reality of north and south as one crosses over the Mason-Dixon line. Neffsville does not bring up any particular emotions. Hopeville brings comparisons to Thornton Wilder's book 'Our Town,' with a community resistant to change, and the grief of death by cancer from a chemical factory's pollution.
