Com o objetivo de indicar especies para restaurar ambientes florestais ribeirinhos, utilizou-se metodos de classificacao que buscam agrupar conjuntos de individuos com caracteristicas semelhantes, definindo agrupamentos com base na composicao floristica. Para isso, inventariou-se 1 ha de vegetacao em um trecho de floresta ribeirinha em Sant’Ana do Livramento, Rio Grande do Sul. Nessa area foram medidos e identificados os individuos arboreos e arbustivos com diâmetro a altura do peito ≥ 5 cm. Na vegetacao foram encontrados tres grupos floristicos e para a recuperacao ambiental de areas perturbadas, com caracteristicas ambientais semelhantes, recomendou-se o uso de Ocotea acutifolia (Nees) Mez, Pouteria salicifolia (Spreng.) Radlk.,Gymnanthes klotzschiana Mull. Arg., Eugenia uniflora L., Allophylus edulis (A.St.-Hil. et al.) Hieron. ex Niederl., Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O. Berg,Prunus myrtifolia (L.) Urb., Scutia buxifolia Reissek, Nectandra megapotamica (Spreng.) Mez e Styrax leprosus Hook. & Arn.

The change in the characteristics of the environment causes variations in the vegetation creating mosaics with different compositions and structure. The objective of this research was to evaluate the influence of environmental factors in community structure and characterize the mechanisms of natural regeneration in a riverine seasonal forest on Pampa biome, Sant’Ana do Livramento, RS, Brazil. Three levels of inclusion were used for sampling forest communities: arboreal componente (diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 5 cm), sampled in 100 plots of 10 m × 10 m (1 ha), natural regeneration Class I (0,1 m ≤ h < 1 m) sampled in 100 sub-plots of 2 m × 2 m (0,04 ha) e natural regeneration Class II (h ≥ 1 m and DBH < 5 cm) sampled in sub-plots of 5 m × 5 m (0,25 ha). In arboreal component were found three floristic groups, by means of cluster analysis (TWISPAN): Group 1, areas near the forest edge; Group 2, low areas near the flow of water channels; Group 3, areas where soils are deeper. For recovery of degraded areas with similar environmental characteristics studied area, was recommended use of Ocotea acutifolia, Pouteria salicifolia, Gymnanthes klotzschiana, Eugenia uniflora, Allophylus edulis, Blepharocalyx salicifolius, Prunus myrtifolia, Scutia buxifolia, Nectandra megapotamica and Styrax leprosus. The species with more developed structure in arboreal component was Ocotea acutifolia and Pouteria salicifolia, and Eugenia uniflora e Blepharocalyx salicifolius in natural regeneration. The species of arboreal component showed association of physical and chemical characteristics of the soil, altimetric quota, and canopy opening. The natural regeneration had association of of physical and chemical characteristics of the soil, altimetric quota, and litter thickness (height) accumulated. The analyzis of environmetal correlations of the most important in the arboreal component indicated that Ocotea acutifolia e Pouteria salicifolia showed greater abundance in land with soils rich in organic matter and exposed to solar luminosity. In the analysis of ecological groups we found that the natural regeneration has kept the same proportions of arboreal component, with a higher proportion of zoochorous dispersal syndrome and light demanding for germination and development of plants, except for stratification of canopy. In characterization of the mechanisms of natural regeneration showed the presence of species with abundant fruit and seed dispersal by animals, and the soil seed bank demonstrated potencial for colonization and restoration of vegetation after disturbances, especially with species herbaceous. The natural regeneration consistent in main mechanism of the regeneration of many tree species of that make up the current structure of the forest. It is concluded that with due consideration to the environmental conditions of the area to be recovered, phytosociology studies and the correlation of species with environmental variables can be an important tool in decision making, as to the strategy to be adopted for the restoration, indicating species were used. A mudança nas características do ambiente acarreta variações na vegetação formando mosaicos com diferentes composições e estrutura. Neste sentido, o objetivo geral deste trabalho foi verificar a influência de fatores ambientais na estrutura de comunidades de espécies arbóreas e arbustivas e, caracterizar os mecanismos de regeneração de um trecho de floresta ribeirinha do Bioma Pampa, Sant’Ana do Livramento, RS, Brasil. As comunidades florestais foram amostradas em três níveis de inclusão: componente arbóreo (diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 5 cm), em 100 parcelas de 10 m × 10 m (1 ha); regeneração natural Classe I (0,1 m ≤ h < 1 m) em 100 subparcelas de 2 m × 2 m (0,04 ha); e regeneração natural Classe II (DAP < 5 cm e h ≥ 1 m), em 100 subparcelas de 5 m × 5 m (0,25 ha). No componente arbóreo foram encontrados por meio da análise de agrupamento (TWINSPAN) três grupos florísticos: Grupo 1, áreas próximas da borda da floresta; Grupo 2, áreas baixas próximas a canais de escoamento d’água, no período de enchentes e; Grupo 3, áreas onde os solos são mais profundos. Para recuperar áreas degradadas com características ambientais semelhantes a da área estudada, recomendou-se utilizar as espécies Ocotea acutifolia, Pouteria salicifolia, Gymnanthes klotzschiana, Eugenia uniflora, Allophylus edulis, Blepharocalyx salicifolius, Prunus myrtifolia, Scutia buxifolia, Nectandra megapotamica e Styrax leprosus. As espécies mais desenvolvidas do componente arbóreo foram Ocotea acutifolia e Pouteria salicifolia e na regeneração natural foram Eugenia uniflora e Blepharocalyx salicifolius. As espécies do componente arbóreo apresentaram distribuição relacionada a aspectos texturais do solo, fatores físicos e químicos do solo, e abertura de dossel. A regeneração natural teve a distribuição influenciada por características físicas e químicas do solo, cota altimétrica, e espessura da serapilheira. A análise de correlação ambiental das espécies sociologicamente mais importantes do componente arbóreo indicou que Ocotea acutifolia e Pouteria salicifolia apresentaram maior abundância em terrenos com solos ricos em matéria orgânica e expostos à luminosidade solar. Na análise dos grupos funcionais, verificou-se que o componente regenerante está mantendo as mesmas proporções observadas para o componente adulto, com maior proporção de espécies zoocóricas, dependentes de luz para germinação e desenvolvimento das plantas, havendo exceção apenas para a estratificação do dossel. Na caracterização dos mecanismos de regeneração verificou-se abundante frutificação de espécies com dispersão zoocórica, o banco de sementes do solo demonstra potencial para colonização e restabelecimento da vegetação após perturbações, especialmente por herbáceas e a regeneração natural consiste no principal mecanismo de desenvolvimento de muitas espécies que compõe a atual estrutura da floresta. Conclui-se que com as devidas considerações sobre as condições ambientais da área a ser recuperada, os estudos de fitossociologia e a correlação de espécies com varáveis ambientais podem ser uma importante ferramenta na tomada de decisão, quanto à estratégia a ser adotada para a restauração, indicando espécies a serem utilizadas.

Despite the considerable loss of natural area in the Pampa biome, the number of scientific studies carried out here is low; it is lower in terms of natural regeneration. Therefore, the present study analyzed arboreal shrub and natural regeneration as well as the influence of environmental variables on the distribution of a riverine forest of the Espinilho stream in the Pampa biome, Rio Grande do Sul. A hundred plots were systematically set for arboreal shrub sampling. To evaluate the regenerating component, two classes were established: Class I and Class II. The main species in the arboreal shrub were Ocotea acutifolia (Nees) Mez and Pouteria salicifolia (Spreng.) Radlk., while those in natural regeneration were Eugenia uniflora L. and Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O.Berg. The characteristics of the relief, soil, and canopy conditioned the species of the arboreal shrub and regenerating strata.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo a avaliação quantitativa e qualitativa da composição vertical do Parque Internacional localizado no município de Sant’Ana do Livramento/BR e Rivera/UY, visando identificar, classificar e apresentar uma listagem das espécies arbóreas encontradas com suas respectivas famílias e número de ocorrência, além de avaliar o estado fitossanitário e a necessidade de manejo das árvores. Foram inventariados todos os indivíduos existentes com circunferência à altura do peito (CAP) maior ou igual a 15,7cm. Nessa etapa foram anotados e medidos dados referentes ao indivíduo como: CAP, altura total, origem, estado fitossanitário e necessidade de poda leve ou pesada. Foram inventariadas 300 árvores pertencentes a 24 famílias. Verificaram-se um baixo índice de espécies nativas existentes no Parque, 31%, e um alto percentual de árvores exóticas, 69%. Quanto ao número de indivíduos, destacam-se a família Cupressaceae, seguida pela Moraceae, Bignoniaceae, Oleaceae, Pinaceae e Fabaceae. Dentre os indivíduos encontrados as espécies Ligustrum japonicum seguida por Ficus microcarpa, Chamaecyparis lawsoniana e Handroanthus heptaphyllus foram as mais abundantes. Foram encontrados 18,27% indivíduos com o estado fitossanitário ruim e 81,73% indivíduos em bom estado. Dos indivíduos em mau estado fitossanitário destacam-se Magnolia grandiflora, Ligustrum japonicum e Handroanthus heptaphyllus que se encontram infestadas por ervade-passarinho.

SUMMARY To properly demonstrate the effect of auditory input on sleep of intra-cochlearimplanted patients, the following approach was developed. Four implanted deaf patients were recorded during four nights: two nights with the implant OFF, with no auditory input, and two nights with the implant ON, that is, with normal auditory input, being only the common night sounds present, without any additional auditory stimuli delivered. The sleep patterns of another five deaf people were used as controls, exhibiting normal sleep organization. Moreover, the four experimental patients with intra-cochlear devices and the implant OFF also showed normal sleep patterns. On comparison of the night recordings with the implant ON and OFF, a new sleep organization was observed for the recordings with the implant ON, suggesting that brain plasticity may produce changes in the sleep stage percentages while maintaining the ultradian rhythm. During sleep with the implant ON, the analysis of the electroencephalographic delta, theta and alpha bands in the frequency domain, using the Fast Fourier Transform, revealed a diversity of changes in the power originated in the contralateral cortical temporal region. Different power shifts were observed, perhaps related to the exact position of the implant inside the cochlea and the scalp electrode location. In conclusion, this pilot study shows that the auditory input in humans can introduce changes in central nervous system activity leading to shifts in sleep characteristics, as previously demonstrated in guinea pigs. We are postulating that an intra-cochlear-implanted deaf patient may have a better recovery if the implant is maintained ON during the night, that is, during sleep.

Este estudo analisou a estrutura do componente arbóreo de uma mata ciliar, no município de Jaguari, RS. A amostragem foi realizada em 15 parcelas de 10mx10m instaladas ao longo da mata ciliar de um afluente do rio Jaguari. Nessas parcelas, foram identificados e medidos os indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) maior ou igual a 5cm. Podocarpus lambertii, Sebastiania commersoniana e Lithrea molleoides foram as espécies mais representativas da mata ciliar. A distribuição diamétrica do componente arbóreo e das espécies lenhosas de maior valor de importância (VI) seguiu o padrão comum a florestas inequiânias, com tendência à forma de "J" invertido, e revelou uma estrutura não balanceada, indicando que não há equilíbrio entre as taxas de mortalidade e recrutamento de indivíduos. A estrutura vertical e as espécies de maior VI apresentaram tendência à distribuição normal, com a maioria dos indivíduos posicionada nas classes intermediárias de altura. This study analyzed the tree component structure of a riparian seasonal decidual forest, in Jaguari, RS. Data was collected in 15 10mx10m-plots randomly assigned along the riparian forest of a Jaguari river tributary. In these plots trees showing DBH equal or above 5cm were identified and measured. Podocarpus lambertii, Sebastiania commersoniana and Lithrea molleoides were the most representative species of the riparian forest. The tree diameter distribution in general and for the species with the higher importance value index showed the inverted "J" trend, typical of uneven-aged forests, and unbalanced structure resulting from different mortality and recruitment rates. The vertical and height species structure showing the highest importance value tended to normal distribution, with most of the individuals positioned in or close to the average height class.

The traffic of wildlife animals is an old practice and is defined as the removal of free animals to the trade market. In the present paper, we present data on the quantitative and qualitative surveys of caught and spontaneously handed in wild birds to environmental authorities in Santa Maria. In order to do so, we analyzed the protocols of the apprehension by the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA) and by the Segunda Companhia Ambiental da Brigada Militar, which perform in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from 2003 to 2005. As the result of the analysis from the birds caught not only by IBAMA but also by the Segunda Companhia Ambiental da Brigada Militar, it adds up to 1,120 specimens of caught birds and 60 handed in spontaneously to the supervising organs. The specimen mostly caught was Monk Parakeet, Myiopsitta monachus, followed by Paroaria coronata, Nothura maculosa, Cyanoloxia brissonii e Carduellis magellanica which together accounted 57% of the total apprehensions. We found that the agency that has seized the most of the avifauna was the IBAMA and the awareness of the population is still tentative because of the spontaneous deliveries performed by very few people on seizures., O tráfico de animais silvestres é uma prática antiga, sendo definido pela retirada de espécimes de vida livre para que possam ser comercializados. No presente trabalho, são apresentados os dados referentes ao levantamento qualitativo e quantitativo das espécies da avifauna apreendidas e entregues espontaneamente as autoridades ambientais em Santa Maria (RS). Para tanto, foram analisados os protocolos de apreensão de aves silvestres registrados pelo Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA) e pela 2ª Companhia Ambiental da Brigada Militar que atuam na Região Central do Rio Grande do Sul, nos anos de 2003, 2004 e 2005. Como resultado, foram contabilizados 1120 espécimes de aves apreendidos e 60 entregues espontaneamente aos órgãos fiscalizadores do IBAMA e da 2ª Companhia Ambiental da Brigada Militar. As espécies mais prejudicadas pelo tráfico foram a Myiopsitta monachus, seguida pela Paroaria coronata, Nothura maculosa, Cyanoloxia brissonii e Carduelis magellanica que, juntas, representaram 57% do total de apreensões. Verificou-se que o órgão que mais tem apreendido a avifauna é o IBAMA e que a conscientização da população ainda é pequena visto que as entregas espontâneas realizadas pela população são muito poucas em relação às apreensões.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior The present paper was carried out in two fragments of cilium Forest of Espinilho creek, located in Sant Ana do Livramento, RS state. The study was taken in a fragment of forest, without any cattle for two years, and another one, with cattle on it. The component arborous-bush and the natural regeneration in these two areas were evaluated as well as the relation of them with the environmental variants by means of a Canonic Correspondence Analysis (CCA). To do so, TRANSECTOS were set up, of variable length, distant 60 meters one from another, where there were parts of 20m x 20m for the inventory of the adult forest and subparts of 3.16m x 3.16m, inside the parts, for the inventory of the natural regeneration. In the inventory of the arborousbush vegetation, of the land with cattle and of the land without cattle, 42 and 43 parts were set up, respectively. In these parts all the live and dead subjects with CAP≥15.7cm were sampled. The collected data for the phyto-sociological analysis of the species were: CAP and total length. In the subparts, all the regenerative arborous-bush subjects higher than 0.10m and CAP>15.7cm were measured. In order to compose the matrix of the study data information on the environment of each part were collected: soil collection for the physical analysis and pH, determination of the soil depth, reading of the opening of the tree top, determination of the soil declivity and the stones existing in each land part. To obtain the phyto-sociological parameters, the vegetation data were analyzed using Mata Nativa 2® software. It was also analyzed the distribution of the subject density, which was organized according to the class of diameter and length of those two areas. To analyze the environmental correlations of gradients with the flower composition, CCA was used, using the computer program PC-ORD® for Windows, version 5.0. For the study of the arborous-bush vegetation, it is concluded that there was a higher density of subjects in the area with no cattle and, that the more representative families of both areas were the same ones: Myrtaceae e Anacardiaceae. In the area with cattle, the Ocotea acutifolia got a greater ecological importance while in the area without cattle it was the Ocotea acutifolia. Concerned to the environmental importance in the two areas, it is concluded that Ocotea acutifolia is influenced by higher soil depths, a higher level of clay and lower percentages of stones as well as more sand. It is concluded, from the analysis of regeneration, that the most abundant families were Myrtaceae e Anacardiaceae. The two areas presented a similar number of subjects in natural regeneration. However, it was observed problems of regeneration in both two areas, being these problems possibly related to the fact that the cattle step on the grass and eat the herbs. About the CCA it was noticed that the cattle did not obtain a significant correlation of the environment with the large amount of species while the area without cattle got significant results, indicating that L. molleoides e Blepharocalyx salicifolius are relates with bigger opening of dossal and a high percentage of stones, while Sebastiania commersoniana e Sebastiania brasiliensis are co-related with a lower declivity and a higher level of clay. O presente estudo foi realizado em dois fragmentos de mata ciliar do Arroio Espinilho, localizados no município de Sant Ana do Livramento, RS. Um fragmento sem gado, há dois anos, e o outro com gado. Foram avaliados o componente arbóreo-arbustivo e a regeneração natural nas duas áreas assim como a relação das mesmas com as variáveis ambientais por meio da Análise de Correspondência Canônica (CCA). Para tanto, foram montados transectos, de comprimento variável, distantes 60 metros um do outro, onde foram alocadas parcelas de 20mx20m para o inventário da floresta adulta e subparcelas de 3,16mx3,16m, dentro das parcelas, para o inventário da regeneração natural. No inventário da vegetação arbóreoarbustiva, do fragmento com gado e do fragmento sem gado, foram montadas 42 parcelas e 43 parcelas, respectivamente. Nessas parcelas foram amostrados todos os indivíduos vivos e mortos com CAP≥15,7cm. Os dados coletados para as análises fitossociológicas das espécies foram: CAP e altura total. Nas subparcelas foram medidos todos os indivíduos regenerantes arbóreos-arbustivos com altura maior que 0,10m e CAP

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES The native species natural regeneration in commercial eucalyptus plantations is still poorly studied. Scientific information regarding its potential can contribute with the understanding of ecosystems dynamics associated with the eucalyptus production matrix and assist in decision-making for the conservation and restoration of adjacent natural ecosystems. We investigated the potential of shrub tree species natural regeneration, the expression of soil seed bank (SSB), the ability of this SSB to produce shrub tree seedlings and the relation between regenerating species and environmental variables. We organized the work into four articles and used an area of forest gardens with eucalyptus plantations and native forest remnants in Southeast Serra, Brazilian Pampa, as the study area. In the first article, we analyzed the regenerative potential through the floristic survey of shrub tree species. We confirmed this potential due to the floristic diversity and the expression of rare, endangered and endemic species. We surveyed 13,007 individuals and 113 species in 1.96 ha. The Myrtaceae family and the genus Baccharis are the richest in species, Psychotria leiocarpa Cham. & Schltdl. is the most abundant species in individuals and Podocarpus lambertii Klotzsch ex Endl. occurs in all treatments and regeneration classes. In the second article, we surveyed and characterized the composition of SSB in order to investigate the influence of eucalyptus on natural regeneration. We found that the seed bank quality may be suffering greater influence according to the use and management of treatments in the area according to the native remnants proximity when compared to the presence of eucalyptus. We counted 8,659 seedlings, identified 100 species, 44 families and 88 genera. Asteraceae has the highest species richness and Ichnanthus sp. (Poaceae) is the most abundant species. Trema micrantha (L.) Blume predominates in native areas. In the third article, we evaluated the technique of producing shrub tree seedlings able to use in degraded areas recovery rescued from the SSB. This technique can contribute to increase the diversity of species that have potential use in ecological restoration projects, considering the conditions and place of study. 59.0% of the seedlings survived, distributed in 17 families, 21 genera and 25 species. Trema micrantha is the most abundant species and, at the same time, the one that suffered the greatest loss of individuals (58.3%). In the fourth article, we verified the relation between environmental variables and regenerating shrub tree species. There were two groups formed that, in general, have separated the native remnants from the areas with eucalyptus plantations, reflecting the conservation degree of these environments. Terrain slope, canopy opening, organic matter, calcium, magnesium and aluminum are the most correlated variables to 17 species. Finally, our data suggest that native remnants and Native Forest Edge Eucalyptus patches serve as a buffer in the exotic productive matrix area. Studies of this nature can support the biodiversity management strategies development for areas with eucalyptus plantations under the conditions presented in the study and for Southeast Serra region, Brazilian Pampa. A regeneração natural de espécies nativas em plantios comerciais de eucalipto ainda é pouco estudada. Informações científicas quanto ao seu potencial podem contribuir com o entendimento da dinâmica dos ecossistemas associados à matriz produtiva da eucaliptocultura e auxiliar na tomada de decisão para conservação e restauração dos ecossistemas naturais adjacentes. Investigamos o potencial da regeneração natural de espécies arbustivo-arbóreas, a expressão do banco de sementes do solo (BSS), a capacidade desse BSS em produzir mudas arbustivo-arbóreas e a relação entre as espécies regenerantes e variáveis ambientais. Organizamos o trabalho em quatro artigos e utilizamos uma área de hortos florestais com plantios de eucalipto e remanescentes florestais nativos na Serra do Sudeste, Pampa brasileiro, como área do estudo. No primeiro artigo, analisamos o potencial regenerativo através do levantamento florístico de espécies arbustivo-arbóreas. Confirmamos esse potencial em função da diversidade florística e da expressão de espécies raras, ameaçadas de extinção e endêmicas. Levantamos 13.007 indivíduos e 113 espécies em 1,96 ha. A família Myrtaceae e o gênero Baccharis são os mais ricos em espécies, Psychotria leiocarpa Cham. & Schltdl. é a espécie mais abundante em indivíduos e o Podocarpus lambertii Klotzsch ex Endl. ocorre em todos os tratamentos e classes de regeneração. No segundo artigo, levantamos e caracterizamos a composição do BSS com o intuito de investigarmos a influência do eucalipto na regeneração natural. Constatamos que a qualidade do banco de sementes pode estar sofrendo maior influência conforme o uso e manejo dos tratamentos na área de acordo com a proximidade de remanescentes nativos quando comparado à presença de eucalipto. Contabilizamos 8.659 plântulas, identificamos 100 espécies, 44 famílias e 88 gêneros. A Asteraceae tem maior riqueza de espécie e o Ichnanthus sp. (Poaceae) é a espécie mais abundante. Trema micrantha (L.) Blume predomina nas áreas nativas. No terceiro artigo, avaliamos a técnica de produção de mudas arbustivo-arbóreas com capacidade de uso em recuperação de áreas degradadas resgatadas do BSS. Essa técnica pode contribuir para aumentar a diversidade de espécies que tem potencial de uso em projetos de restauração ecológica, considerando as condições e local de estudo. Sobreviveram 59,0% das mudas, distribuídas em 17 famílias, 21 gêneros e 25 espécies. Trema micrantha é a espécie mais abundante e, ao mesmo tempo, a que sofreu a maior perda de indivíduos (58,3%). No quarto artigo, verificamos a relação entre variáveis ambientais e espécies arbustivo-arbóreas regenerantes. Houve a formação de dois grupos que, de modo geral, separou os remanescentes nativos das áreas com plantio de eucalipto, refletindo o grau de conservação desses ambientes. A inclinação do terreno, abertura do dossel, matéria orgânica, cálcio, magnésio e alumínio são as variáveis que mais se correlacionam a 17 espécies. Por fim, nossos dados sugerem que os remanescentes nativos e as manchas de Eucalipto Borda-Floresta Nativa servem de amortecimento na área da matriz produtiva da exótica. Estudos desta natureza podem apoiar o desenvolvimento de estratégias de gestão da biodiversidade para áreas com plantio de eucalipto nas condições apresentadas no estudo e para a região da Serra do Sudeste, Pampa brasileiro.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES Cattle farming in forest ecosystems can produce different intensity disturbances, leading to changes in structure and floristic composition. Studies aiming to investigate the structure and understand the effects on the dynamics of forests used for this purpose are fundamental for the management of biodiversity in these areas. The objective of this study was to evaluate, from management records of different cattle occupancy rates, the impacts on the structure and diversity of a remnant of Seasonal Forest in the Pampa biome. The experiment was conducted in the municipality of São Nicolau, Rio Grande do Sul. Three areas of the remnant were compared, using 45-years of management history: (A1) area without the presence of cattle, (A2) area with a management history of low occupancy rates of cattle, and (A3) area with a management history of high occupancy rates of cattle. Vegetation surveys were carried out, divided into natural regeneration (0.1 m ≤ H < 3.0 m) (16 plots of 25 m² per area), understory vegetation (3.0 m ≤ H < 9.0 m), and canopy vegetation (9.0 m ≤ H) (16 plots of 150 m² per area). The plots located in areas A2 and A3 were isolated with a fence to exclude cattle and monitor passive restoration. In the vegetation survey, the numbers of individuals, species, and families was counted for each area and the phytosociological and ecological indices by stratum were calculated. The seed rain was collected and analyzed using 16 collectors of 1m² per area for 24 months. The monitoring of passive restoration was carried out in 16 fenced plots of 25m2 in A2 and A3, at three moments: 2014 (removal of cattle and isolation of areas), 2017 (three years of isolation), and 2019 (six years of isolation). The results point to floristic simplification in the vertical structure of the remnant in the area with a history of higher occupancy rates. Pasture use by cattle caused changes in canopy vegetation in relation to floristic composition and functional diversity. The results for the seed rain indicated that the impacts caused by cattle on A3 vegetation reduced the number of seeds and morphospecies due to the reduction in the number of plant individuals that make up the community. Passive restoration demonstrated a significant increase in the number of individuals, species, families, and taxonomic and functional diversity after three and six years of isolation. Thus, the history of management with high cattle occupancy rates demonstrated a greater impact on the density and richness of species and on the seed rain, while the history of management with low cattle occupancy rates did not cause damage to the taxonomic and functional diversity, this representing an alternative for conservationist management of the remaining forest in rural properties. Passive restoration showed promising results in the return, development, and diversity of natural regeneration in areas with cattle management. This technique can be recommended for environmental conditions similar to that of the current study, in projects for the recovery of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) with riparian vegetation and Legal Reserves (LR) in forest remnants in rural properties. A pecuária bovina em ecossistemas florestais pode produzir distúrbios de diferentes intensidades, promovendo mudanças estruturais e de composição florística. Estudos com o intuito de conhecer a estrutura e compreender os efeitos na dinâmica das florestas utilizadas para este fim são fundamentais para um manejo da biodiversidade dessas áreas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os impactos do histórico de manejo com diferentes lotações de bovinos na estrutura e diversidade de um remanescente de Floresta Estacional no bioma Pampa. O experimento foi conduzido no município de São Nicolau, Rio Grande do Sul. Comparamos três áreas do remanescente com histórico de manejo de 45 anos: (A1) área sem a presença de bovinos, (A2) área com histórico de manejo com baixa lotação de bovinos e (A3) área com histórico de manejo com alta lotação de bovinos. Foram realizados levantamentos da vegetação divididos em regeneração natural (0,1 m ≤ H < 3,0 m) (16 parcelas de 25 m² por área), sub-bosque (3,0 m ≤ H < 9,0 m) e dossel (9,0 m ≤ H) (16 parcelas de 150 m² por área). As parcelas instaladas nas áreas A2 e A3 foram isoladas com cerca para a exclusão dos bovinos e monitoramento da restauração passiva. No levantamento da vegetação foram contabilizados para cada área o número de indivíduos, espécies e famílias e calculados os índices fitossociológicos e ecológicos por estrato. A chuva de sementes foi coletada e analisada através de 16 coletores de 1 m² por área durante 24 meses. O monitoramento da restauração passiva foi realizado nas 16 parcelas cercadas de 25 m2 em A2 e A3, em três momentos: 2014 (remoção dos bovinos e isolamento das áreas), 2017 (três anos de isolamento) e 2019 (seis anos de isolamento). Os resultados apontam para uma simplificação florística na estrutura vertical do remanescente na área com histórico de manejo com maior lotação. O uso pretérito das áreas pelos bovinos causou modificações na vegetação de dossel em relação à composição florística e diversidade funcional. Os resultados para a chuva de sementes indicaram que os impactos causados pelos bovinos na vegetação em A3 reduziram o número de sementes e de morfoespécies em função da redução no número de indivíduos vegetais que compõem a comunidade. A restauração passiva mostrou o aumento significativo quanto ao número de indivíduos, espécies, famílias, diversidade taxonômica e funcional após três e seis anos de isolamento. Dessa forma, o histórico de manejo com alta lotação de bovinos demonstrou maior impacto na densidade e riqueza de espécies e na chuva de sementes. O histórico de manejo com baixa lotação de bovinos não causou danos à diversidade taxonômica e funcional, sendo uma alternativa de manejo conservacionista para o remanescente florestal na propriedade rural. A restauração passiva mostrou resultados promissores no retorno, desenvolvimento e diversidade da regeneração natural nas áreas com manejo de bovinos. Essa técnica pode ser recomendada, para condições ambientais semelhantes à do estudo, em projetos de recuperação de Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APP) do tipo vegetação ripária e Reserva Legal (RL) em remanescentes florestais nas propriedades rurais.

The study was carried out in Caçapava do Sul, RS, in four different sites: 1) area under active restoration with applied nucleation, 2) passive restoration, 3) eucalyptus commercial plantation, and 4) reference site (seasonal forest).
