ToolBook 1.0, from Asymetrix Corp, is the early leader among Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) tools for the development of Windows 3.0 applications. Microsoft is bundling the runtime version of ToolBook with Windows 3.0, an enormous marketing advantage. Performance is relatively slow, but this is expected to improve in upcoming versions. OOPs promises a reduction in the time-to-market for software applications and better products. End users with minimal programming skills can play an active role in developing software that meets their particular needs. The program may lead many Macintosh developers into the MS-DOS world. Additional products from Asymetrix, and others, are needed to work with ToolBook to provide increased interaction between end users and software developers.
