The synthesis of anisolylated aspartyl and glutamyl tripeptides involves the coupling reactions using the carbonylbis(3-methylimidazolium triflate)reagent. The coupling occurring at the amino terminal causes the introduction of ketone amino acids in a tripeptide. During the peptide bond formation, the keto unit of the glutamyl residue is protected as the ethylene dithioketal.

Pyrrolinediones were reacted with two benzyne molecules to produce 4-phenylisoquinolones. Subsequentreaction of the bromopyrrolinedione produced the bromoadduct, phenylated adductand a minor unexpected compound. Results showed a more complex mechanism than those previously cited. New mechanisms for the reaction are suggested. Variation in the R2 groups resulted in corresponding variations in the reactionmechanisms.

A new method for the synthesis of (1S,3R)-1-amino-3-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopentane, a precursor in the synthesis of some carbocyclic nucleoides, is discussed. The method includes three steps: the synthesis of (S)-2-aminoadipic acid; Dieckmann cyclization to an aminocyclopentanone; and derivatization of (1S,3R)-1-amino-3-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopentane. The importance of carbocyclic nucleotides lie in their antiviral and antineoplastic properties.

The structures of a novel compound derivative of baccatin synthesized through ketone transformation were examined through utilization of 1H NMR, DEPT 13CNMR spectra, and X-ray crystallography. The structure was consistent with that of molecule seen in the Dreiding model. The spectral data for hexcyclic bisoxetene and the analogous final product were consistent with the bisoxetene structure.
